Police Reports 8/23

Sector 1
Larceny-Shoplifting: 8/23 at 11:40am - Harvard St
Officer responded to a report of a shoplifting in progress. the loss prevention representative stated that he observed the suspect take several sweaters. The items were later retrieved from the suspect’s bag. Suspect was placed under arrest for shoplifting.

Sector 3
Larceny: 8/24 at 1:00am – Beacon St
Victim stated that his stroller was removed from under the tarp and stolen. She stated that he  left the stroller unlocked, under a tarp, in the rear of his home. The area from which the stroller was stolen is a secluded parking lot which is accessed off of Lancaster Terrace.

Sector 4
Burglary: 8/23 at 1:30am-2:00am – Walnut St
Victim stated that two male suspects had broken into her apartment earlier this morning and the back door was kicked in. Victim claimed she recognized the two male suspects. Officers were able to obtain the addresses and telephone numbers listed to both parties. Both male suspects were later found, placed under arrest, and charged for Breaking and Entering in the Night Time with intent to commit a felony.

Sector 4
Accident: 8/23 at 5:28pm – Washington St / Beacon St
Veh #1 was driving north bound on Beacon Street approaching the turn around at Westbourne Terrace when Veh #2 completing a U-turn onto Beacon Street and  hit Veh #1. Passenger of Veh#1 sustained laceration to her head.

Sector 7
Accident: 8/23 11:24pm - Philbrick Rd and Boylston St
Units responded to a report for a tree down on a vehicle. The operator of the vehicle had already exited the vehicle and was unharmed. She stated that she was just driving down Boylston St. (Westbound) when suddenly a tree fell on top of her vehicle. The Brookline Highway/Forestry Department was notified.

Sector 9
ID Fraud: Reported 8/23 at 3:51pm – Rangeley Rd
Victim reported that an account was opened in his name. It is unknown where or how this account was opened at this time. Victim was advised to contact one of the three credit bureau fraud departments.

Police Reports 8/22

 OUIL: 8/23 at 1:40am - Longwood Ave at St Paul St
Officer observed a vehicle cross the marked double yellow line in front of a resident on Longwood Ave. As the officer approached the vehicle, he detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. Officer also observed that the operator had blood shot eyes. Operator was placed under arrest for Operating Under the Influence of Liquor and Failure to Stay in Marked Lanes.

Warrant: 8/22 at 7:07pm – Beacon St
Officers observed a subject who was known to have 2 outstanding warrants for his arrest: Operating After Suspension and Number Plate Violation to Conceal ID.  Subject was placed under arrest for the warrants.

Attempted Larceny: 8/22 at 6:24pm – Winthrop Rd
Officer responded to a report of an attempted larceny of a bicycle. Witness stated that he observed a male subject leap over his neighbor’s fence and then observed a bicycle come over the fence from his neighbor's yard. Witness than stated that the subject then left the bicycle where it was and walked back up the driveway/walkway towards Winthrop Rd. Subject is described as a black male in his mid-20s, nicely dressed, wearing a white shirt, khaki pants, short cropped hair, lean build, approximately 5'10"

Larceny: July 15
Victim reported her TV stolen out of her apartment approximately one month ago. She initially believed the TV had been stolen, but dismissed this notion, and thought that it had just been misplaced. Officers noticed no evidence of forced entry and the doors and locks appear to be intact. No other electronics or other items of value have gone missing.

Police Reports 8/22


Operating After Suspension: 8/22 at 3:20am – Boylston St
Officer was performing radar enforcement when he observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. A vehicle’s registration check revealed that the operator’s license was suspended. Operator was placed under arrest and issued citations for Operating After License Suspension, Operating MV with License Not In Possession, and Speeding.

Operating After Suspension: 8/22 at 2:30am – Commonwealth Avenue & Babcock St
Officer noticed an operator of a vehicle driving slowly and continued to drive through a solid red light. A vehicle’s registration check revealed that the operator’s license was suspended. Operator was placed under arrest and charged for driving for Operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license, failing to stop for a red light.

 Not Duly License: 8/22 at 12:41am – Washington St
Officer observed a vehicle that did not have a valid inspection sticker. A vehicle registration query revealed that the operator had an expired non-renewable drivers license. Operator was placed under arrest and charged for Unlicensed Operation of Motor Vehicle and Failure to Submit Vehicle for Inspection.

Burglary: Occurred between 8/10 - 8/21 at 6:47pm – Russett Rd
Officer responded to a residence on a report of a past attempted residential Breaking and Entering. Resident stated that he returned from a vacation and noticed the screen on the window damaged. Nothing was reported stolen.

Larceny-Shoplifting: 8/81 at 2:03pm -2:19am – Commonwealth Ave
Officer responded to a report of a past shoplifting. Manager and Loss Prevention Officer discovered that a shoplifting of over the counter medicine had occurred. Subjects are described as a back male wearing a white Adidas shirt, and a blue Yankees hat, and another black male wearing blue jeans and a black t-shirt.

Larceny-Shoplifting: 8/21 at 4:03pm – Harvard St
Officers responded to a report of a shoplifting report. Manager stated that he observed a suspect placing items into his backpack. The manager confronted the suspect and recovered multiple stolen items. Suspect was placed under arrest and will be criminally charged for Shoplifting.
  
Larceny-Shoplifting: 8/21 at 12:46pm – Harvard St
Units responded to a report of a shoplifter leaving the store.  An officer observed a white female fitting the description of the same white female who exited the store without paying for the items. Suspect was placed under arrest for Shoplifting.

MV Accident: 8/21 at 10:40am – Beacon St
Officer responded to a report of a hit and run causing property damage.  Witness stated that he heard and observed a vehicle leaving a parking spot that hit the parked car in front. Witness was able to write down the registration of the vehicle that fled. The owner of the vehicle will be issued a citation for Leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

Citizens Alert

We have received reports of people, specifically the elderly population, that the Brookline Fire Department has been soliciting donations for Dead/Injured Firefighters. At this time, the Brookline Fire Department is NOT holding any funds for donations. When they do hold donations, they do not contact private residents - only businesses. The Fire Department adheres to specific steps in recieving funds for their donations. Please be aware of unauthorized contacts and scams.

Police Reports 8/20 - 8/21


Sector 1
Bike Larceny: Occurred between 8/16 at 12:00m - 8/20 at 12:30pm– Freeman St
Victim reported his bike missing from a bike rack on the Dexter Park property. The lock and chain were also missing. 

Sector 3
Bike Larceny: 8/20 at 4:03pm– Beacon St
Victim stated that his bike was stolen from a locked storage unit located in the basement of his building. 

Sector 4
MV Accident: 8/20 at 12:32pm – Beacon St
Operator of a vehicle was backing into a handicap parking spot and struck a parked motorcycle.

Sector 4
Possession: 8/21 at 1:59am – Pond Ave
Officer observed that the operator of a moped was not wearing a helmet. The operator claimed that he borrowed the moped from his friend. Operator will be issued for Not Duly Licensed, Operating a Moped without a helmet, One-way violation.

Sector 4
Operating After Suspension: 8/20 at 12:25pm – Harvard St
Officer observed a vehicle make an illegal U-turn in an area of Harvard Street. A registration check revealed that the operator’s license was suspended. Operator was placed under arrest for Operating after Suspended license and will be cited for making a illegal U-turn.

Sector 4
Warrant/Traffic Violation: 8/20 at 7:40am - Boylston St and High St
Officer stopped a vehicle that went through a red traffic signal. A CJIS check showed that there was a warrant for the operator. Operator was issued a citation for Failing to Stop for a Red Light and placed under arrest for the warrant.

Sector 6
Not Duly Licensed: 8/20 at 10:28am – Boylston St
Officer observed 2 vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed at the same time. Both vehicles were stopped. Operator of vehicle 1 was cited for speeding and the operator of Vehicle 2 was placed under arrest for Not Being Duly Licensed. Officers later discovered marijuana and a ceramic pipe in vehicle 2. Operator of Vehicle 2 will also be issued a Town By Law Violation for Possession of less than 1 oz of Marijuana.

Sector 7
Accident: 8/20 at 4:50pm – Goddard Ave
Operator of a vehicle stated that as he was attempting to avoid contact with an animal, that crossed the road in front of him, he applied his brakes. As he applied his brakes, the rear wheel slide out from under his motorcycle and he fell to his side. Operator was transported to the hospital for further treatment.

Police Reports 8/16 - 8/19


Baby on the Way: 8/16 at 9:58pm – Kenwood Rd
Officers were sent to a medical emergency for a woman having labor pains. Officers arrived to assist the mother, and along with the Brookline Fire Department, in delivering the child at home. Mother and child were transported by ambulance to the hospital.

Pedestrian/Vehicle Accident: 8/19 at 10:40pm – Beacon St
Officers responded for a traffic accident involving a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle. Driver claimed that the pedestrian ran out into the streets in front of his vehicle as he was traveling westbound on Beacon St. Officers arrived on scene to find the pedestrian conscious and breathing, and appearing to have a broken leg. She was takent o the hospital for further medical attention. At this time this crash is still under investigation.

Operating After Revocation: 8/19 at 6:42pm – Harvard St
Officers observed a vehicle, traveling southbound on Harvard St, with a missing front license plate. A query of the vehicle’s registration revealed that the registration had been cancelled and the vehicle was not registered and did not have insurance. Officers also observed that the vehicle's inspection sticker had expired. Following further investigation, a motor inventory search revealed a set of bolt cutters and a black scooter helmet. Driver was placed under arrest and charged with the following offenses:
Operating after Revocation (License), Operating Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Operating Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Attaching Number Plate, Number Plate Missing, Failure to Submit Vehicle for Inspection, Attaching Inspection Sticker, Possession of Burglarious Tools.

Operating After Revocation: 8/19 at 5:07pm - Beacon St
A random query of a vehicle's registration revealed that the registered owner had a suspended license. Operator was placed under arrest and charged for Operating After Suspension.

Bike Larceny: Occurred on 8/18 sometime between 11:00am & 10:00pm – Linden St
Officer responded to a resident on Linden Street for a report of a stolen bike. Owner of the bike states that her bike was parked in the rear of her house at the end of the driveway behind her grill, unlocked. 

Traffic Offenses: 8/16 at 8:30am - Hammond St and Woodland Rd
Officer was conducting traffic enforcement when a driver of a vehicle was traveling at a speed considered unreasonable, swerved around the stopped traffic in the left lane into the inside lane and caused the officer to jump out of the way to avoid getting struck. Driver will be issued a citation for Unsafe Lane Change.

Trespassing: 8/19 at 6:26pm – Beacon St
Officers responded for a suspicious person call. Caller observed a six foot tall, black male suspect within the trash receptacle at the rear of the building. Officers were unable to locate the suspect, nor the vehicle in which the subject used to leave the scene, but was able to retrieve identification from the license plate number. Suspect will be charged with Trespassing.

Operating After Suspension: 8/18 at 9:02pm - St. Paul St
Officer observed a vehicle with a missing front license plate. A query of the vehicle's registration revealed that the driver’s license was suspended. Further investigation revealed Marijuana in the center console of a vehicle. Driver will be charged with Operating after Suspension (License), Failure to Submit MV for inspection, Number Plate violation, Possession of One Ounce or Less of Marijuana.

MV Fire: 8/18 at 5:18pm - New Terrace Road
Officers were dispatched for a Motor Vehicle fire. The operator stated that he had just started the vehicle when all of a sudden he could smell burning wires. He and his family exited the vehicle when he saw flames coming out of the hood of his vehicle. All family members exited safely sustaining no injuries.

Loud Music/Party: 8/12 at 11:00pm - Strathmore Rd
Officers responded to a report of a loud party in the area. Officers heard loud talking and music coming from the area of the roof deck. All guests left the residence and the resident was issued a citation for Nuisance Control.

Single Vehicle Accident: 8/17 at 10:46pm – Lagrange St & Princeton Rd
Officers were dispatched to investigate a traffic crash. The vehicle was on its side after striking a town tree and pole. Driver was evaluated and taken to the hospital for further medical evaluation.

Shoplifting: 8/17 between 7:30pm & 8pm – Harvard St
Assistant store manager stated that a phone had been stolen from a store display. At this time there is no further information.

Shoplifting: 8/17 at 6:54pm – Boylston St
Officer was dispatched to investigate a report of a Shoplifting incident. Store owner stated that a female juvenile suspect stole a skateboard. 

Larceny: 8/16 at 8:00pm – Pleasant St
Victim states that he was in the process of moving items from his apartment to his new address when he returned to find items missing from his home.

Bike Larceny:
Officer was dispatched to Longwood Ave for a temporary tow zone violation. It was later revealed that the front wheel of the complainant’s bike was stolen. The bike was locked to the front railing of her building.

Assault: 8/17 at 12:05am – Beacon St
Units responded for a report of a past assault & battery.  Victim reported that he was the sidewalk outside his residence on Beacon Street when a subject approached him and removed an item from his pocket, possibly a knife. Subject is described as a black male, in his late-twenties or early-thirties, medium-dark complexion, 5'11", medium build, short/"natty" hair, and wearing jeans.
