5-12-2017 Traffic Crash, Fight, Larceny

5-12-17

On May 11, 2017, while traveling eastbound on Beacon St. Officers were flagged down by a citizen involved in a minor crash. The driver reports opening his car door into the bike travel lane and then a bicyclist struck the door. The bicyclist was not hurt and able to ride his bike. The driver was issued a citation M.G.L. c. 90 s. 14: Failure to Use Safety ( when opening door).

On 5/11/17 Officers were dispatched to Washington St and Brookline Ave for a motor vehicle accident. After speaking with both parties it was discovered that one operator was trying to take an illegal U-turn which caused the accident. No injuries were reported and no vehicles were towed. One operator was issued a Massachusetts Uniform Citation for making an illegal U-turn, causing other vehicles to slow down and brake.

On 5/11/2017 Officer’s responded to an address on High St for a report of a fight in progress.  At the time of the Officers arrival all parties had been separated. After an investigation 2 parties were summonsed into Brookline Court for Assault and Battery, Threats to Commit a Crime.

On 05-11-2017 Officers responded to an address on Gardner Rd.  to take a past larceny report. The victim reports that her wallet was stolen from a business on Harvard St. The victim believes someone she reached into her pocketbook and stole her wallet and keys while she attended to her child. Before she was able to cancel her bank card, a fraudulent transaction had already been attempted. She will try and gather more information as it pertains to the fraudulent transaction.

On May 11th, 2017 Officers were dispatched to an address on Village Way for a report of a missing child.  The reporting party states the child left for school but never showed up. He was located in another town at his grandparents home and is no longer considered missing.

5-8 thru 5-10 Blog

5-08-2017

On 5/8/17, the Brookline Police Warrant Unit, US Marshals Fugitive Task Force, Boston Fugitive Unit, Cambridge and Somerville PD  arrested a subject in the area of Cameron Ave. and Fair Oaks St. in the City of Cambridge.  The subject was booked by Cambridge PD
 On May, 8, Officers responded to an address on Lawton St., for a report of a missing student.  Multiple Brookline Units responded and canvassed the area.  A short time passed and the student was located by a family member.


On 05/06/17 a citizen walked into the Brookline Police station  to file a malicious damage report. The victim reports that someone through two or three eggs at the first floor window of his apartment on Stanton Rd. Officers responded to this location and did not observe anyone in the area.  Later a call came into the station for a group of youths disturbing on Stanton Rd.  Officers responded and located the group.  The youths were cooperative with the Officers. and eventually sent on their way.

On May 8th, 2017, Officers responded to an address on Harvard St for a recent shoplifting. Brookline Dispatch described the suspect as a male, approximately in his 60's, wearing a yellow jacket and had just recently got on the 66 Bus to Dudley. Officers were able to locate the Bus and also the subject who fit the description given.  The witness was brought to the scene and positively ID  the subject that was stopped, as the one who had stolen the items. The subject was placed under arrest.

On 05/08/17 multiple Officers responded to an address on Fisher Ave., for a report of a fight in progress.  Upon  arrival officers observed a group of people in the front driveway.  Officers  were also directed to another group involved in the altercation that was getting into a car parked in the parking lot of Fisher Park. After an investigation it was determined that there  was an altercation between students  and the Brookline Police will seek summonses for CH 265:13A  Assault and Battery,  CH 275:2 Threat To Commit  A Crime.

On 5/8/17 Officers responded to an address on  Boylston St for a report of a suspicious male yelling at vehicles in traffic.  Upon arrival they  located the subject standing in front of 755 Boylston St. The subject was identified and it was determined that he had an active Default Warrant for his arrest.  The subject was placed under arrest and transported back to the station where he was booked.


5-09-2017
On May 9, 2017, Officers responded to an address on Clyde St. for a report of a traffic crash. The Officer assisted exchanging information for both parties. No injuries were reported and no vehicles were towed.  Both parties were advised to contact their insurance companies and complete a Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Crash Operator Report.

On May 9, 2017 officers assisted a DPW employee, who had opened a parking meter in the Centre Street parking lot for repair. There was a credit card that was inserted into the cash slot. During the assist, money that had not been processed was turned over to the Officer for safe keeping.  The credit card was retrieved and given back to the owner. The money was brought back to the Brookline Police station and placed into evidence locker for safe keeping.







5-11-2017 Fraud, Theft, MV accident

On May, 10, 2017 Officers were dispatched to the lobby of the police station for a fraud report. After an investigation  A criminal application was filed with Brookline District Court  for Larceny by False Pretenses (266:30).

 On 5/10/17 while assigned to  Coolidge Corner Officer,  officers were   dispatched to an address on Beacon St. The reporting party states that an unknown male party, late 30's to early 40's, passed a doctor’s prescription for  Oxycodone. The reporting party felt that the amount of medicine prescribed seemed suspicious.  After an investigation it was determined that the prescription was forged. The subject did not return to pick up the fraudulent prescription. Brookline Detectives will follow-up.

 On 05/10/2017 Officers were dispatched to an address on Village Way for a report of a bicycle theft. Upon arrival they  met up with victim, who reports  locking  his electric bike on a handrail by the front door. He stated he had two locks on his bike, a code lock and a lock with a key. Sometime between 12:30-14:20 hours, these two locks were defeated and the bike was taken.  The bike is a silver frame, electric bike, no seat, black handlebars, and a blue pouch in the middle of the frame.

On May 10, 2017 Officers were dispatched to an address on Beacon Street for a motor vehicle blocking a driveway. They arrived and observed a MV parked directly in front of a driveway entrance .Officers then queried the plate and discovered that the vehicles status was revoked due to lack of insurance.  The vehicle received a parking ticket for blocking the driveway and towed because it had no insurance. The owner was issued Massachusetts Unformed Citation for (90:34J) Uninsured motor vehicle and (90:9) Unregistered motor vehicle. 

On Wednesday May 10, 2017 Officers responded to  St Marys St and Ivy St for a report of a motor vehicle accident between two vehicles with one of the vehicles attempting to leave the scene.  Both vehicles were located with one vehicle sustaining significant damage. During the investigation the officers believed that one of the operators had been drinking.  The subject performed Field Sobriety Tests and was unable to complete the tests as instructed.  The subject was placed under arrest for  Operating Under the Influence of Liquor and received a citation for the following offenses ; MGL Ch. 90 Sect. 24: Operating Under the Influence of Liquor (Second and subsequent),MGL Ch. 90 Sect. 24 (2)(A): Operating to Endanger (Negligent Operation), MGL Ch. 90 Sect. 24 (2): Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident. No injuries were reported and both vehicles were towed.

5-11-2017

On Thursday, May 11, 2017, while conducting traffic enforcement, Officers  observed a MV travelling northbound on Harvard St. without a valid Inspection Sticker . The Officer initiated a traffic stop on  Harvard St. and Lawton St. A license check on the operator revealed he had a Suspended Drivers License. The operator was placed under arrest and charged with the following offenses; (MGL 90:23) Operating After Suspension – License and (MGL 90:20) Failure to Submit Motor Vehicle for Inspection.
The vehicle was towed.

5/8/17

Warrant Arrest
Officers from several departments located and arrested a fugitive in the City of Cambridge for crimes committed in Brookline and other towns including larceny and breaking and entering. The arrest occurred without incident.

Shoplifting
An officer responded to a store on Harvard St for a recent shoplifting. The cashier stated that she observed an older Black male wearing a yellow jacket enter the store with an empty personal cart. A short time later, the cashier saw this same man attempting to exit the store with a full cart. She stated she attempted to stop the man, but he proceeded to exit the store and get on a bus. Officers observed a male fitting the description get off a bus on Washington St. The store cashier was brought to the area and identified man as the suspect. He was then placed under arrest.

Warrant Arrest

Officers responded to Boylston St for a report of a suspicious male yelling at vehicles in traffic.  Upon our arrival the officers located the subject standing on Boylston St and identified him as an individual with an active warrant. The suspect was then placed under arrest.

5/4 - 5/7

5-04-2017

On 05/04/2017 Officers responded to an address on University Road for a past theft report. The victim reports that his shed and his upstairs neighbor’s shed were broken into. Items had been taken from both sheds.

On May 4, 2017, Officers were dispatched to Washington St. at Park St. for a report of a traffic crash. After an investigation one operator was issued Massachusetts Uniform Citation for Brookline Town By-Law Article VII Section 4, Following Too Closely. There were no reported injuries and both vehicles were drivable.

On May 4, 2017, Officers witnessed a minor motor vehicle crash at Cypress Road at Brington Road. A query on the cruiser laptop of the North Carolina Registration returned a status of revoked due to lack of insurance. The operator was issued Massachusetts Uniform Citation M.G.L. c. 90 s. 23: Operating after Revoked Insurance, M.G.L. c. 90 s. 34J: Uninsured Motor Vehicle, M.G.L. c. 90 s. 9: Unregistered Motor Vehicle. The vehicle was towed and the license plates removed.

On 5/4/2017, multiple units responded to an address on Babcock St for a report of a subject refusing to leave the premises. Officers were informed that the subject tended to become violent when confronted. It was apparent to the Officers that the subject was unstable and could not speak coherently or rationally. The subject struck the officers as they attempted to assist. The subject was transported to the hospital and will be summonsed into Brookline Court for M.G.L. c. 265 s. 15A Assault and Battery Dangerous weapon to wit "door', and M.G.L. c. 265 s.13D  A&B on a Police Officer.

On May 4, 2017 Officers responded to an address on Beacon Street, for a report of Identity Theft. The victim reports the incident had occurred back in the 2012. He was notified by the Bank last year that a checking account was opened in his name, which became delinquent. Their investigation revealed that a female in Michigan had opened the delinquent account in the year 2012. Today while attempting to place a freeze on his credit history he was advised by the crediting bureau that they will need police report. He was advised to contact the three credit monitoring agencies to report his identity theft.

On May 4, 2017 the Massachusetts Probation Electronic Monitoring Program contacted the Brookline Police Department and advised that a subject with three outstanding arrest warrants in effect, was showing a GPS location on Franklin Court, Brookline.  Officers responded to the Address provided by the GPS monitoring bracelet and located the subject. He was placed under arrest without incident. The Massachusetts Probation Electronic Monitoring Program was notified that the subject was placed under arrest.

On 5-4-17 a subject came to the Brookline Police Station to report that her checking account had unauthorized purchases. She stated that there were 3 charges made at Macy's in Flushing NY. The victim still has possession of the charge card, and was advised to cancel it. A report was filed.

5-05-2017

On 05/05/2017 Officers were conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Harvard Street and Beacon Street and observed a vehicle drive in the bike lane and parking spaces. The officers were able to stop the vehicle on Naples Road.  As they were speaking with the operator they detected an odor of alcoholic beverages coming from her person. The Officers conducted a Field Sobriety Test and determined, due to the subjects inability to successfully complete the tests that the subject was under the influence. She was placed under arrest for Operating under the Influence of Liquor.

On 5-5-2017 Officers responded to Boylston St. at Norfolk Rd. for a motor vehicle crash.  Both operators were uninjured and Officers assisted with the exchange of paper work.  One operator was cited for following too closely.  One vehicle was towed from the scene.

On 5/5/17 Officers were conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Washington St and Davis Ave. when they observed a vehicle fail to stop for the red light. The Officers activated the cruisers emergency blue lights and conducted a traffic stop in front of 333 Washington St.  A query of the operator’s license revealed that his right to operate a motor vehicle was suspended. The operator was issued Massachusetts Uniform Citation for Operating after Suspension and Red light violation. He was advised that he will be summonsed into Brookline District court for the above offenses. The vehicle was turned over to a licensed driver.

On May 5th, 2017, Officers responded to an address on Kent St for a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival officers observed a motor vehicle with severe front middle and front right damage as well as damage to the right front quarter panel. They noticed a second vehicle with significant damage to the rear middle bumper, trunk, and left rear quarter panel. No injuries were reported and both vehicles needed to be towed. The operator believed she hydroplaned into the parked vehicle.

5-06-17

On 05-06-2017 Officers responded to an address on Boylston St. for a disturbance. Upon arrival the Officer spoke with a subject who appeared intoxicated. After speaking with the subject it was decided that he would be placed into protective custody until he sobered up. Once at the station the subject requested an ambulance and he was transported to the hospital.

On May 6, 2017, Officers responded to a business on Harvard Street that reported a suspected shoplifter had just left the store, and got into a vehicle.  A vehicle description was given out and responding officers located this vehicle near Lawton and Thorndike Street. The Officers conducted a traffic stop.  At this time responding units requested Brookline Dispatch to query the driver and the vehicle. Brookline Control confirmed through the Massachusetts RMV that the status of his license is suspended and the status of the vehicle is active. During the investigation, officers located heroin in the mirror on the driver side sun visor. The driver was placed under arrest and issued MA Uniform Citation for: M.G.L. Ch. 90 S. 23: Operating after Suspension, M.G.L. Ch. 90 S. 13A Operating a Motor Vehicle without a Seatbelt as well as M.G.L. Ch.94C S. 34: Possession of Class A Substance (Heroin). The passenger was arrested and charged with M.G.L. Ch. 266 S.30 Larceny Over $250, M.G.L. Ch. 265 S. 15B: Assault With A Dangerous Weapon.  The vehicle was towed.

On 5/6/2017 Officers responded to an address on South St., for a report of a past assault and battery.  After an investigation it was determined that the situation was a misunderstanding and all parties were advised.

On 05/06/17 a citizen walked into the Brookline Police Station to report his wallet had been stolen. The victim states he was at an establishment on Commonwealth Ave. and placed his personal belongings in an unlocked locker.  When he left at approximately he noticed his wallet was missing. The wallet was a men's wallet containing I.Ds and credit cards. The victim has already cancelled all of his credit/debit cards and reported them to the card companies, and major credit bureaus.

05-07-2017

On 07 May 2017 Officers, while on patrol near the intersection of Beacon Street (westbound) and Englewood Avenue, observed a dark colored sedan turn right from Englewood Avenue on to Beacon Street.  The vehicle failed to both yield and stay in the right most lane while making the turn; forcing the officer to brake hard behind him as he was crossing over to the left lane of Beacon Street.  The Officer activated the overhead blue lights and safely conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Beacon Street and Strathmore Road. The Officer observed an odor of burning rubber as well as damage to the front driver's side of the vehicle.  Brookline Dispatch contacted Boston Police and inquired if they had had any hit-and-run accidents recently in the area.  A short time later, they informed the officers that there was a hit-and-run accident with property damage near the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Chestnut Hill Avenue.  Boston responded to the scene and after an investigation it was determined that this vehicle was involved in a crash and the vehicle fled the scene. The operator agreed to Field Sobriety Testing. After the tests were complete the subject was placed under arrest and charged with the following: MGL 90 s. 24 Operation under the influence (liquor), MGL 89 s.8 Failure to yield to oncoming traffic. The vehicle was towed.

On May 7, 2017, Officers responded to an address on Harvard Street for a theft of a bicycle. The victim reports that he locked his electric, Sondors bicycle had been stolen. There was no evidence of how the bicycle was stolen and in the immediate area of the meters and there does not appear to be any cameras aimed towards this location. He believes someone gained access by unlocking his bicycle lock.

On 5/7/2017 Officers responded to an address on Babcock St. for a reported assault.  The assault happened to parties familiar with each other and may have been the result of medication issues. 2 parties are being summonsed into Brookline Court, M.G.L. Ch. 265 s 13a Assault and Battery.


On 5/7/2017, Detectives responded to an address on Tappan St for vandalism to a vehicle that had its four tires slashed or air let out of them.  The vehicle and tires were photographed. A partial fingerprint was developed on the side panel above the right rear tire. It was photographed and lifted to be submitted to the ID Unit for further analysis.
