Recent Cell Phone Robberies

Since March 28, the town of Brookline has had four street robberies of cell phones. The suspect description has been consistently a black male between 5’10” and 6’ feet tall and heavy set. The suspect is specifically targeting iPhones. All four victims have been women who were walking alone while talking on their iPhones. The suspect has pushed, punched or hit the victims, and no weapon has been shown. The crimes have taken place between 8:00 PM and midnight. The suspect has been committing the robberies on the North side of Brookline. These robberies have occurred on St. Paul St., High St., Browne St., and Longwood Ave. Residents should be advised to limit cell phone use when walking alone, especially during the night. Be aware of your surroundings and contact the police if you feel like you are being followed. If an incident does occur, please reach a phone and contact the police as quickly as possible.

Police Reports 4/26-4/27

Arrest: Occurred on 4/27 at 3:21 AM- Kent St.

A vehicle was traveling on Kent St. with a defective rear number plate light. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Kent St. A query of the driver’s information revealed that her license was suspended. The driver was placed under arrest for Operating after Suspension.

Robbery: Occurred on 4/26 at 11:46 PM- Longwood Ave.

Officers responded to Longwood Ave. for the report of a robbery. The victim stated that she was talking on her cell phone while she walked along Longwood Ave. The victim stated that she was pushed from behind and an unknown individual took her cell phone. The suspect then took off running on Longwood Ave. The victim described the suspect as a dark skin male, 6' tall, with braids in his hair and was wearing a black fleece. A search of the area for the suspect was unsuccessful.

Arrest: Occurred on 4/26 at 10:15 PM- Beacon St.

A vehicle was traveling on Beacon St. at a high rate of speed. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Beacon St. A query of the driver’s information revealed that his right to operate in Massachusetts was suspended. The driver was placed under arrest for Operating after Suspension.

Shoplifting: Occurred on 4/26 at 8:20 PM- Harvard St.

A TJ Maxx employee reported a shoplifting. A loss prevention employee stated that he observed a subject removing items from their original packaging and concealing them in a bag. The subject was placed under arrest for Shoplifting.

Police Reports 4/25-4/26

Attempted Burglary: Occurred on 4/25- Adams St.

On 4/25/12 at 3:50 PM officers responded to an Adams St. residence for the report of a suspicious male attempting to gain access to the residence. The caller stated that she witnessed a subject examining a locked shed in the rear of the building. The witness stated that the subject then went to the side door and attempted to gain access to the building. It did not appear that the suspect was able to enter the residence. The subject was described as a dark- skinned male in his 30s, 6 feet tall, medium build, short hair and wearing jeans and a dark-colored top. Officers could not locate the suspect after a search of the area.

On 7:15 PM of the same day, officers responded to the same Adams St. residence for a residential alarm. The screen on a side window had been removed and there were fresh pry marks on the base of the window. It did not appear that access into the residence had been gained.

Arrest: Occurred on 4/25 at 10:11 AM- Boylston St.

A vehicle was traveling on Boylston St. with an expired inspection sticker. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Boylston St. A query of the driver’s information revealed that his license was suspended. The driver was placed under arrest for Operating after Suspension.

Police Reports 4/24-4/25

Arrest: Occurred on 4/25 at 1:17 AM- Boylston St.

A vehicle was traveling on Boylston St. at a high rate of speed. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Boylston St. A query of the driver’s information revealed that his license was suspended. The driver was placed under arrest for Operating after Suspension.

B&E Motor Vehicle: Occurred on 4/24- Welland Rd.

A Welland Rd. resident reported a breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. The victim stated that he parked his vehicle in front of his home at 3:00 PM. When he returned at 11:20 PM, he noticed that the driver’s side window had been smashed. A radar detector was stolen from the vehicle.

Breaking and Entering: Occurred on 4/24 at 2:50 PM- Browne St.

Officers responded to a Browne St. residence for the report of a live breaking and entering. The caller stated that he heard a loud noise in the common hallway and went to investigate. The witness stated that he observed a white or light skinned Hispanic male run away from the entry door of the second floor apartment. The subject got into a green Honda and fled the scene. Police were unable to locate the vehicle after a canvass of the area. The entry door of the apartment was left open and officers observed fresh pry marks.

Police Reports 4/23-4/24

Arrest: Occurred on 4/24 at 2:01 AM- Washington St.

A vehicle was traveling with a defective headlight. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Washington St. A query of the driver’s information revealed that his right to operate in Massachusetts was suspended. The driver was placed under arrest for Operating after Suspension.

Shoplifting: Occurred on 4/23 at 3:20 PM- Harvard St.

A TJ Maxx employee reported a shoplifter. A loss prevention employee stated that he observed a subject removing merchandise from its original packaging and concealing it in a bag. The subject was placed under arrest for Shoplifting.

Arrest: Occurred on 4/23 at 2:01 PM- Marion St.

A vehicle failed to stop for the stop sign located at Marion St. and Park St. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Marion St. A query of the driver’s information revealed that he did not have a valid driver’s license. The driver was placed under arrest for Not Duly Licensed.

Shoplifting: Occurred on 4/23 at 1:23 PM- Commonwealth Ave.

A CVS employee reported a shoplifter. A loss prevention employee stated that he observed a subject taking items off the shelves and placing them in a backpack. The subject then attempted to leave without paying for the items. The subject was placed under arrest for shoplifting.

Police Reports 4/20-4/23

OUIL: Occurred on 4/22 at 1:52 AM- Boylston St.

A vehicle was traveling on Boylston St. at a high rate of speed. The vehicle veered to the right over the white line and into the breakdown lane. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Boylston St. Upon reaching the operator, the officer could detect an odor of alcohol emanating from the vehicle. Based on the observations, the driver was placed under arrest for Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol.

Robbery: Occurred on 4/21 at 9:54 PM- Browne St.

Officers responded to Browne St. for several reports of a robbery. Upon arrival, officers were met by a female victim. The victim stated that she was walking on Browne St. when someone pushed her down from behind and stole her cell phone from her hand. The suspect fled down an alleyway. The victim described the suspect as light brown skin male, 20-30 years old, 5'8 to 5'10, medium build, clean shaven with a buzz hair cut, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt. Officers searched the area but could not locate the suspect.

Arrest: Occurred on 4/21 at 5:18 PM- St. Mary’s St.

Brookline officers were informed by a BU police officer that he observed two black males who he believed to have stolen bicycles fleeing on St. Mary’s St. Officers observed two males matching the description traveling on bicycles on Beacon St. Suspect #1 was stopped on St. Paul St. Suspect #2 fled and was eventually stopped at the corner of St. Paul and Sewall Ave. Based on the facts, the two suspects were placed under arrest for Receiving Stolen Property.

Arrest: Occurred on 5:07 PM- Washington St.

Officers responded to CVS for the report of a customer disturbance. A customer was asked to leave the store after yelling inside the store about not being able to use coupons. A query of the subject’s information revealed that she had a warrant out of Dorchester District Court. She was placed under arrest for the warrant.

Arrest: Occurred on 4/21 at 2:02 PM- Hammond St.

A vehicle was traveling on Hammond St. at a high rate of speed. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Hammond St. A query of the driver’s information revealed that his license was revoked. The driver was placed under arrest for Operating after Revocation.

Shoplifting: Occurred on 4/21 at 10:59 AM- Harvard St.

A GAP employee reported a shoplifter. A loss prevention employee stated that he observed a female concealing merchandise from the store. The subject was placed under arrest for shoplifting.

Arrest: Occurred on 4/20 at 11:00 PM- Brookline Ave.

A vehicle made an illegal U-turn across a double yellow line. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Brookline Ave. at the Riverway. Upon reaching the driver’s window, the officer could detect a strong odor of marijuana. Officers observed a bag in plain view on the driver’s side door that contained a brownish powder believed to be heroin. The driver was placed under arrest for Possession of a Class A drug.

Arrest: Occurred on 4/20 at 5:10 PM

Two individuals reported a subject coming out from behind a Heath St. building with a bicycle that was believed to have been stolen. The reporting party stated that she observed a male subject walk behind a Heath St. building and then reappear. The witness said he then walked behind another Heath St. building, this time reappearing with a bicycle.

Officers were able to stop a subject who matched the description in the surrounding area. Both witnesses positively identified the subject as the male that they had observed. The bicycle was positively identified and turned over to a Heath St. resident. The subject was placed under arrest for Receiving Stolen Property.

Shoplifting: Occurred on 4/20 at 12:54 PM- Harvard St.

A TJ Maxx employee reported a shoplifter. A loss prevention employee stated that he observed a subject attempt to leave the store with merchandise concealed in his clothing. The subject was placed under arrest for Shoplifting.
