Police Reports 2/16-2/17

Burglary: Occurred on 2/16 between 7:00 and 10:30 PM- Winthrop Rd.

Winthrop Rd. residents reported a Breaking and Entering and Larceny. The victims stated that when they returned home at 10:30 PM, they noticed that several items had been taken from various bedrooms in the apartment. It appears that the suspect gained entry through a basement level window.

OUIL: Occurred on 2/17 at 1:05 AM- Boylston St.

A vehicle traveling on Cypress St. came to a stop at a red light in the middle of an intersection. When the light turned green, the vehicle turned onto Boylston St., traveling at a high rate of speed and straddling the center line. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Boylston St. Upon speaking to the driver, the officer could detect the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. Based on the observations, the driver was placed under arrest for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Burglary: Occurred on 2/16 between 5:40 and 9:00 PM- Winthrop Rd.

Winthrop Rd. residents reported a Breaking and Entering. Victims stated that when they returned home at 9:00 PM, several items were missing from various bedrooms in the apartment. The victims stated that rear door had been locked prior to their leaving, and it was unlocked when they returned.

Burglary: Occurred on 2/16 between 12:00 and 6:00 PM- Sheafe St.

A Sheafe St. resident reported a Breaking and Entering. The victim stated that when he returned home at 6:00 PM, he noticed that his apartment had been entered. The front door appeared to have been forced open. Several items were taken from bedrooms.

Arrest: Occurred on 2/16 at 4:35 PM- Newton St.

A blue truck went through a red light while turning from Clyde St. onto Newton St. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Newton St. A query of the driver revealed that he did not have a driver’s license. The driver was placed under arrest and issued a citation for Not Duly Licensed and Failure to stop for a red light.

Shoplifting: Occurred on 2/16 at 4:18 PM- Commonwealth Ave.

A CVS employee reported a shoplifter at Commonwealth Ave. location. The employee stated that she observed the suspect placed items into his jacket and left the store without paying. The suspect was placed under arrest for shoplifting.

Benefit Basketball Tournament for Fire Victims

Benefit Basketball Tournament for Brookline victims of the January 16th fire

On January 16th, 2012 a fire badly damaged apartment buildings at 1469 and 1471 Beacon Street

WHAT: Basketball game between BHS students and members of the police department followed by a game between the BHS faculty and members of the Brookline Fire Department

WHEN: Friday February 17th, 2012 1st Game 6:00 PM; 2nd Game 7:00 PM

WHERE: Brookline High's Schluntz Gymnasium

Tickets are $5.00 for students and $10.00 for adults. Children under 10 admitted free.

All proceeds will go to the fire victims fund that has been set up at the Brookline Credit Union. Police Reports 2/15-2/16

Arrest: Occurred on 2/16 at 1:57 AM- Monmouth St.

A Volkswagen Toreuge was traveling on St. Mary’s St. without its lights on. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Monmouth St. A query of the operator revealed that his license was suspended. The driver was placed under arrest for operating after suspension.

Assault: Occurred on 2/15 at 8:45 AM- South St.

An individual at the Bournewood Hospital reported an assault. Witnesses stated that at approximately 8:45 AM, a subject became upset and began to throw fruit around the room. The subject threw an apple, which struck another individual in the head. The subject will be summonsed to court for Assault and Battery.

Recent Medical Call

On Tuesday February 14, 2012 at 2:38 PM Brookline Public Safety Dispatch received a 911 call from a resident on Dwight Street. The caller was a ten year old child who said his baby sister was not breathing. The calm brother was able to get the phone to his mother. Shortly before the call the one year old child had fallen in the kitchen and struck her head causing her to go unconscious. The Dispatcher began giving emergency medical procedures to the mother. The mother was instructed to place the child on the floor and within seconds the child can be heard in the background crying. At this time it is unclear what the medical condition of the child was. When EMS arrived the child was breathing and conscious. The child was transported to a local hospital, treated and released.

Police Reports 2/14-2/15

OUIL: Occurred on 2/15 at 2:32 AM- Boylston St.

A red Toyota Camry was traveling on Boylston St. at a high rate of speed. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Boylston St. Upon speaking to the driver, the officer could detect a strong odor of alcohol emanating from his person. Based on the observations, the driver was placed under arrest for Operating Under the Influence of Liquor. A query of the driver also revealed that his license was suspended. The driver was issued a citation for Operating Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor, Operating After Suspension of license, and Speeding.

Arrest: Occurred on 2/15 at 12:07 AM- Boylston St.

A red Volkswagen was traveling at a high rate of speed on Boylston St. The officer conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Boylston St and Hammond St. A query of the driver revealed that his license was expired and nonrenewable. The driver was placed under arrest and was issued a citation for Not Duly Licensed and Speeding.

Burglary: Occurred on 2/14 between 4:30 and 9:15 PM- Greenough St.

An employee at Brookline High School reported a possible attempted burglary. The employee noticed damage to the doorknob of a room believed to hold computers. It appeared that the suspect was unable to gain access to this particular room. Officers then checked other rooms that might contain computers. In one room, officers noticed a damaged window pane and wood molding on the door. Several computers were missing from this room.

M/V Crash Witness needed

This morning at 7:20AM on Route 9 west bound near the Chestnut Hill theater, there was a motor vehicle crash. Officers found a single car crashed into a tree. The operator was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. Anyone who may have seen this accident take place is asked to call the Brookline Police. 617-730-2222

Police Reports 2/13-2/14

Arrest: Occurred on 2/13 at 5:20 PM- Beacon St.

A green mini van made an illegal left turn at the intersection of Webster Street and Harvard Street. The operator pulled into the rear parking lot of Trader Joe's, disobeying a detail officer’s commands to stop. A query of the driver revealed his right to operate a vehicle was suspended. The driver was placed under arrest for Operating after Suspension, Failure to Obey a Police Officer, and Illegal Left Turn.

Traffic Stop: Occurred on 2/12 at 10:08 PM- Amory St./ Freeman St.

Officers observed a gray Volvo at the corner of Amory St. and Freeman St. A query of the registration revealed that it had been revoked. The officers conducted a traffic stop. The registration status was confirmed, and the operator will be summonsed to court for operating after revoked insurance and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. The vehicle was towed and the registration plates were confiscated.

Graffiti: Occurred on 2/13 at 4:43 PM- Chilton Rd.

A Chilton Rd. resident reported a Graffiti Law complaint. The victim’s front door had been tagged with a sharpie marker. The graffiti appeared to be from the same individual who tagged several homes over the weekend.

Police Reports 2/10-2/13

OUIL: Occurred on 2/12 at 3:00 AM- Beacon St./ Winthrop Rd.

An officer responded to the intersection of Beacon St. and Winthrop Rd. for a report of a disabled motor vehicle. A gray Chrysler was pulled to the side of the road, running and with the hazard lights on. There was significant damage to the front of the vehicle. The officer was able to locate several broken parts that had fallen off the vehicle, which led to a fire hydrant that had been struck and tipped over. Upon reaching the driver, the officer could detect a strong odor of alcohol emanating from her person and the vehicle. The driver was placed under arrest and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle while under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor and Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident.

OUIL: Occurred on 2/11 at 2:48 AM- Hawes St./ Colchester St.

An officer noticed a white pick-up truck parked on the curb of Colchester St. with extensive front end damage and deployed air bags. The officer observed major damage to the fence, numerous tire tracks in the yard, and vehicle parts in the yard at a Colchester St. residence. There was also damage to a town sign. Based on a license found in the empty vehicle, a description was sent out to officers of the possible driver. A short time later, officers stopped a party matching the description at the intersection of Aspinwall Ave. and Kent St.

It was determined that this subject had been operating the vehicle. The subject was placed under arrest and transported to the hospital. He was charged with Operating under the influence liquor, Leaving the scene of an accident, and Operating to endanger.

Shoplifting: Occurred on 2/10 at 9:51- Beacon St.

Employees of Trader Joe’s reported a shoplifter in their store. An employee stated that he observed a man placing items from the shopping cart into his coat pockets. The employee stated that the subject left the store through the rear exit without paying for the items in his pockets. The subject was placed under arrest for Shoplifting.

Larceny: Occurred between 2/3 and 2/9- Washington St.

A Washington St. resident reported several packages stolen from her residence. The victim stated that a payroll check and a UPS package were stolen from the front vestibule of the building.

Arrest: Occurred on 2/12 at 4:59 PM- Pleasant St.

A green Honda Civic was traveling on Pleasant St. with no front registration plate. Officers conducted a traffic stop on Pleasant St. A query of the operator revealed that his license was suspended. The driver was placed under arrest for Operating after Suspension.

Graffiti: Occurred on 2/11

Several residents reported graffiti marked on their front doors. Two Babcock St. residents, two Beals St. residents, and two Stedman St. residents reported similar graffiti markings made by a sharpie marker on their front doors.

B&E Motor Vehicle: Occurred on 2/9 between 9:00 PM and 11:00 AM- Kent Sq.

A Kent Sq. resident reported a Breaking and Entering and Larceny of a Motor Vehicle. The victim stated that she had parked her car in her driveway at 9:00 PM, and the next morning she noticed the front driver’s side window was smashed. A GPS unit was stolen from the vehicle.
