1:40 p.m.: An officer stopped a vehicle that had failed to stop for a stop sign which was located at the intersection of Babcock Street and Freeman Street. The operator of the vehicle failed to have his driver’s license. The subject was issued a citation for operating after revocation and failure to stop for a stop sign.

An officer responded to an address on Chestnut Street where the party had reported that two bikes were stolen from their apartment building. The surveillance video was unable to view any potential suspects.

9:00 p.m.: An officer responded to a building on Kent Street where the reporting party stated that their wallet had been missing from their backpack. There is no surveillance system at this address.

12:00 a.m.: An officer was conducting a traffic stop in the Coolidge Corner area. The registered owner of the vehicle happened to have a warrant out in the State of New York for dangerous possession of drugs. Officers arrived on scene as the individual was placed under arrest for the extraditable warrant.

1:00 a.m.: An officer stopped a man on Harvard St who fit the description of someone who was tagging in the area. After questioning the man he admitted to tagging in the area the night before. The man gave consent for his backpack to be searched; in the bag were spray paint cans and other items used for tagging.

8:00 a.m.: An officer responded to an address on Boylston Street. The reporting party stated that when they had arrived to their office that morning the party had noticed that some of the file cabinets had been pried open, rummaged through and petty cash from the desk drawers had been taken.

7:31 p.m.: Police responded to a mental health facility on South Street for a report of a patient that had eloped. Staff reported the patient had stolen a bicycle during the elopement and was attempting to elude them on Goddard Ave.  An officer responding to the scene observed the subject on Goddard Ave, and attempted to stop him. The subject assaulted the officer and fled. A brief foot pursuit ensued and the man was stopped in nearby Larz Anderson Park. The officer was treated on scene and finished his shift. The bike was returned to its proper owner, and the subject was transported to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.

10:00 p.m.: An officer responded to a store on Beacon Street for a theft report. The reporting party stated that at approximately 9:55 p.m. the woman plugged her phone into the stores outlet to be charged. She left her phone unattended and when she returned to retrieve the phone it was missing but the charger was still left there. This incident is under investigation.


11:22 p.m.: An officer responded to an address on Park Street for a stolen bicycle report. The owner reports locking the bicycle to a town street sign outside her residence at approximately 8:00 a.m. and returning at 11:00 p.m.

6:25 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to West Roxbury Parkway for a report of larceny from the Putterham Meadows Golf Clubhouse. Additional officers responded to the area in search of the suspect vehicle. Upon arrival, officers spoke with staff members at the clubhouse who stated the suspect went into an office and removed a set of golf clubs. The subject was contacted and he returned to speak to officers and immediately turned over the clubs. The clubhouse staff also advised officers of other instances of golf bag thefts. A salesperson informed the proper owner that his golf bag and clubs had been brought to the business on 7/11 by the subject and he has brought various items to the business to sell. A follow up by the detective division has been requested.

12:28 p.m.: An officer spoke with a party who wished to file a larceny report. The party stated that on 7/17 at approximately 7:30 p.m., she had been at a restaurant on Harvard Street. At approximately 9:30 p.m., the individual felt her bag move, but only observed the woman sitting behind her. At approximately 10:00 p.m., the victim received an email stating there was suspicious activity on her bank account. The victim then realized her wallet was missing and her bag was open. Detective follow up has been requested.

8:00 p.m.: An officer took a report for identity fraud. The reporting party stated she was reporting the incident for her boss who received an email from a car insurance company regarding a cancellation notice, but does not use the particular company. The company stated a policy had been taken out in the victim’s name using other personal information as well. Follow up by the detective division has been requested.

8:45 p.m.: An officer responded to an address on Dean Road for a package theft report. The reporting party stated that at approximately 8:30 p.m. he had returned home and brought in a package that had been left on his front steps; however, when he opened it, it was found to be empty. The package was sealed with clear packing tape, but the sides of the box were torn. The victim will contact U.P.S. regarding the incident. The box has been submitted into evidence.

12:50 a.m.: Officers and Brookline Fire responded to a call for a carbon monoxide alarm at an address on Freeman Street. The fire department and National Grid determined that the gas was being taken out of the building by a vent, but was entering a window of one of the apartment units. An evacuation was not necessary. Residents waited for their apartments to vent and officers notified the concierge and maintenance technician of the damage that occurred during the necessary forced entries of units.

7:34 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to an address on Russel Street for a larceny report. The reporting parties stated that they were hired as contractors to work on the house. Sometime between 1:00 p.m. on 7/16 and 6:30 a.m. on 7/17, someone entered the residence and took various tools and supplies. One of the parties had a key to the residence in his possession; the key is usually hung inside for workers to access the house. There were no signs of forced entry. A follow up by detectives has been requested.

An officer responded to an address on Greenough Street for a past larceny report. The reporting party stated that two packages were taken from his front porch some time since July 3, 2017 when they were delivered. Officers have been provided tracking and product information.

An officer responded to an address on School Street for a report of a past package theft. Upon arrival, the reporting party stated that she received an email notifying her that her package had been delivered on 5/15/2017. The party returned home on 7/15/17 to find the package missing. Officers have been provided with the tracking and product information.

3:51 p.m.: An officer responded to an address on St. Paul Street for a reported bicycle theft. Upon arrival, the caller stated her son’s bicycle had been locked to an iron railing by their front door at approximately 7:00 p.m. on 7/14. The bicycle was noticed missing with the bicycle lock cut on 7/15 at approximately 2:30 p.m. Another bicycle lock was tampered with as well. These other bicycles had been locked on 7/16 at approximately 4:00 p.m. and the reporting party noticed the damage at approximately 1:30 p.m. on 7/17. The Walk and Talk Unit was notified and detective follow up has been requested.

5:31 p.m.: Officers responded to a car dealership on Commonwealth Avenue for a report of a stolen motor vehicle. Upon arrival, the Service Manager stated that a customer had dropped off his vehicle for service. During the day on 7/12, a service member had moved the car and left it unlocked. At 2:35 a.m. on 7/13, the vehicle was stolen. Camera footage shows a male checking multiple car doors in the parking lot. He arrived at the car in question and drove the car onto Harvard Street. A copy of camera footage of the parking lot has been requested.  The owner was notified that his vehicle was stolen. Detectives will follow up for the investigation.


8:08 p.m.: Officers responded to a parking lot on Harvard Street for a report of a minor motor vehicle accident. Vehicle #1 had been stopped at a red light with vehicle #2 stopped behind it. When the light turned green vehicle #1 rolled backward into vehicle #2. There were no injuries and minor damage to both vehicles. Dispatch confirmed that one of the operators did not have an active license and officers were also notified that he had an active default warrant. The operator of motor vehicle one was placed under arrest for the default warrant and his vehicle was towed from the scene.

1:15 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to an address on University Road for a report of fraud. The reporting party stated that on 6/28 she mailed her rent check to her landlord, but he did not receive it. The two agreed to another route of payment including another check and a Venmo transfer. On 7/14, the reporting party realized her original check has been cashed as well as the new check and Venmo transfer. The landlord stated he never received the original check. A picture of the original check was provided and appears to have been altered. The victim filed a fraud claim with her bank and a full reimbursement it pending. Detective follow up has been requested.

An officer was dispatched to Beacon Street for an accident involving damage to town property. Upon arrival, the reporting party stated he observed a white truck pulling out of a parking spot on Beacon Street strike a taxi stand sign, knocking it down. The party could not identify the driver and has no further information on the vehicle. A town of Brookline CIMS video surveillance is at the intersection of St. Paul Street and Beacon Street.  A review will be conducted to see if any information can be retrieved.

8:51 p.m.: An officer responded to a business on Thorndike Street for a report of an attempted break that occurred overnight. The owner stated she had locked the store on 7/13 at approximately 10:00 p.m. On 7/14 she returned to the store and had difficulty using her key to open the door, but gained entry. At approximately 5:00 p.m., she was unable to lock the door. The owner observed scratches and marks on the door and door frame that were consistent with someone attempting to gain entry. The lock had been slightly out of place, but was pushed back into place allowing the door to function properly. Detectives arrived to assist and take photos and the owner stated she would notify police as soon as she accessed the security surveillance footage.

7/15/2017

1:32 a.m.: An officer observed a vehicle travelling eastbound on Commonwealth Avenue. A random query of the vehicles registration indicated that the registered owner had a suspended driver’s license. A traffic stop was conducted at the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and St. Mary’s Street. The operator was found to be the owner of the vehicle. He was issued a citation for Operating After Suspension – License and will be summonsed to court for the same offense. The vehicle was released to a friend with the operator’s permission.  

7:17 a.m.: Brookline Fire, Fallon Ambulance, and Brookline Police officers responded to the area of Washington Street and Harvard Street for a motor vehicle accident with unknown injuries. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the driver who stated he had struck a tree when he attempted to avoid an oncoming vehicle. The vehicle sustained major front end damage and the operator was transported for additional medical attention. The operator was found to have a suspended license and the vehicle was found to have a registration status of Revoked Due to Insurance. The operator will be issued citations for Operating After Suspension, Uninsured MV, Unregistered MV, and Attaching Plates.

9:51 a.m.: Officers responded to a motor vehicle accident on at Harvard Street and Beacon Street. All parties reported they were uninjured. An officer had stopped traffic to allow a construction vehicle to cross the intersection when one vehicle did not stop in time and struck the vehicle in front of him, causing the second vehicle to hit the back of the next vehicle. Officers assisted in the exchange of information between all parties and the drivers were advised to contact their insurance companies and complete a Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Crash Operator Report.

An officer was dispatched to a business on Harvard Street for a larceny report. Upon arrival, the reporting party stated she had placed her purse down on a display and left it unattended for a moment.  When she returned to it, it was gone. Surveillance footage could not clearly capture when the party put her purse down and no one was captured leaving the store with the bag. The next day (7/16) at approximately 2:00 a.m., dispatch called to inform officers that a customer has found her purse and the purse has been returned to the owner with all of her belongings.

7:35 p.m.: An officer responded to an address on Longwood Avenue at the corner of Marshall Street for a graffiti complaint. Upon arrival, the manager of the condo association showed officers an email she had received from a resident advising her of the graffiti on the property. A resident of the Marshall Street property stated she had heard voices outside of her window around 2:45 a.m. The tags have been photographed and follow up by the Community Service Division has been requested.

7/16/2017

8:24 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to an address on Chestnut Street for a reported larceny of a bicycle. Upon arrival, the victim stated her daughter and her daughter’s friend had their bicycles stolen. At approximately 6:30 p.m., the two girls had placed their bicycles outside of the residence unsecured and in plain view. When they returned to the bicycles prior to 6:30 p.m., they were missing. Officers searched local parking lots and parks for the bicycles, but were unable to locate them.

10:00 p.m.: A random query of a vehicle traveling on Gibbs Street revealed the registered owner of the vehicle had a suspended driver’s license. A traffic stop was initiated at the intersection of Gibbs Street and Stedman Street. It was confirmed that the operator of the vehicle was the registered owner and that his license had been suspended. He was issued a citation for Operating After Suspension – License and will be summonsed to court for the offense.


Over the weekend, we also received two reports of credit card fraud.
