8/7 - 8/8


Sector 1

Larceny: 08/01/2013 at 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. – Babcock St.

On August 7, 2013 an officer received a report of a past larceny. The victim stated he left his backpack in a secure area at his place of employment, which only employees have access to. At some point during the victim’s shift, a debit card was removed from the backpack. There are no identified suspects at this time.


Sector 2

Warrant Arrest: 08/08/2013 at 1:15 a.m. – Longwood Ave/ Sewall Ave.

A random query of a vehicle revealed the registered owner had a warrant out of Attleboro District Court. An officer initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Longwood Ave. and Sewall Ave. The operator of the vehicle was confirmed to be the owner and was placed under arrest.


Sector 3

Larceny: 08/07/2013 at 6:30 p.m. – Beacon St.

An officer was dispatched to Beacon St. after receiving a report of a bicycle theft. The victim stated he left his bike unlocked, leaning against a parking meter for a brief period of time. Upon his return, the bicycle was missing.


Larceny: 08/06/2013 at 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. – Summit Ave.

An officer received a report from a victim about the theft of a bicycle. The victim stated the bike had been locked to a pole in front of his residence on Summit Ave.


Sector 5

Breaking and Entering of a Motor Vehicle: 08/07/2013 at 4:55 p.m. – Winthrop Rd.

An officer was dispatched to a residence on Winthrop Rd. after receiving a report for a Breaking and Entering of a Motor Vehicle. Upon arrival, the officer observed the vehicle to have a broken window. The victim stated she had discovered the broken window, but did not see anything missing from the vehicle. Neighbors did not see or hear anything suspicious.

Sector 9

Not Duly Licensed: 08/08/2013 at 1:51 a.m. – W. Roxbury Pk.

A random query of a vehicle revealed the owner did not have a valid driver’s license and the insurance on the vehicle was revoked. An officer initiated a traffic stop on West Roxbury Parkway. The operator of the vehicle was confirmed to be the owner. She was cited for Operating Without a License, Revoked Insurance, and having an Unregistered Motor Vehicle.

Traffic Update for US Amateur Golf Tournament


From August 9- 18, the Country Club is set to host the US Amateur Golf Tournament. Due to this event, traffic on Clyde St. will be closed except for the following: residents, buses, and USGA official vehicles. Travel restrictions on Clyde St. will begin at 5:30 a.m. In addition, there will be lane restrictions on Lee and Newton St. beginning at 5:30 a.m. due to permitted parking. Vehicles without permits that are not registered to town residents shall be ticketed and towed on the following streets: Whitney St, Meadowbrook Rd, Country Rd, Forest St, Dale St, Goddard Circle, Sears Rd. Hallwood Rd. Fernwood Rd, Yarmouth Rd, Bellingham Rd, and Dudley St.

Sector 1

Larceny: 08/04/2013 at 10:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. – Lawton St.

An officer received a report on August 6, 2013 about a stolen bicycle. The victim reported she left the bike locked to a pole on Lawton St. When she returned for it later that night, the bicycle had been stolen.


Drug Violation: 08/06/2013 at 6:15 p.m. – Commonwealth Ave.

Officers were dispatched to a pharmacy on Commonwealth Ave. after receiving a report of a past larceny. Upon arrival, officers met the regional loss prevention manager who stated the larceny originated in January 2013 and had continued on until the present time. The manager stated he began receiving complaints from customers about missing pills in January and, in response, had installed surveillance cameras. The manager was able to observe an employee taking pills from filled prescription bottles before giving them to the customers. Upon seeing this, the manager attempted to schedule an appointment with the employee. However, the employee continued to avoid the appointment by changing shifts and calling in sick to work. On August 6, 2013 the manager was finally able to meet with the employee and report the crime to Brookline officers. The suspect was placed under arrest for Larceny of a Controlled Substance and Possession of a Class E Substance.


Sector 7

Not Duly Licensed: 08/06/2013 at 3:13 p.m. – Newton/ Clyde St.

An officer observed a vehicle travel through a stop sign without stopping. The officer initiated a traffic stop on Newton St. A query revealed the operator’s license was expired. The operator was placed under arrest for being Not Duly Licensed.


Sector 9

Operating After Suspension: 08/06/2013 at 4:52 p.m. – Horace James Circle

An officer observed a vehicle traveling at an accelerated speed. The officer initiated a traffic stop at the Horace James Circle. A query revealed the operator had a suspended license. The operator was placed under arrest for Operating After Suspension.





O.U.I.L: 08/07/2013 at 12:54 a.m. – Boylston St./ Eliot St.

An officer observed a vehicle traveling at an accelerated speed with its hazard lights on. The officer initiated a traffic stop on Boylston St. A strong odor of alcohol was emanating from the vehicle. The operator had blood shot, glassy eyes and slurred his speech when questioned by the officer. After conducting a field sobriety test, the officer determined the operator was intoxicated and placed him under arrest for Operating Under the Influence of Liquor.

8/5- 8/6

Sector 1

Fraud: 08/06/2013 at 12:57 a.m. – Commonwealth Ave.

An officer observed three males riding bicycles and dragging a fourth bicycle behind them. The officer stopped the suspects on Commonwealth Ave. A pat frisk and a search of the suspects’ backpacks revealed several electronic items such as a GPS and a professional microphone. A pair of black knit winter gloves and a spandex sleeve were also found. Further investigation revealed one of the suspects was carrying five credit cards which did not belong to him. The suspect was placed under arrest for Possession of Stolen, Lost, or Mislaid Credit Card.


Sector 3

Building Fire: 08/06/2013 at 4:37 a.m. – Beacon St.

An officer was dispatched to Beacon St. after receiving a report of a fire on the 4th floor of a residential building. The officer entered the building and detected the odor of smoke in the stairway. The officer proceeded to evacuate the building. Fire units arrived and extinguished a smoldering wood deck on the 4th floor. The fire was ignited by a discarded cigarette. No one was injured.


Sector 5

Burglary: 08/05/2013 at 11:08 a.m. – Welland Rd.

Several officers were dispatched to a residence on Welland Rd. after receiving a report about a possible Breaking and Entering in progress. The caller stated he heard a loud crash from the downstairs and it sounded as if someone was in the house. Once officers arrived on the scene, the victim was standing outside and stated he observed a Hispanic male wearing a white t-shirt and green shorts run from the house toward Stanton Rd. A male fitting the description provided by the victim was spotted by officers running down Gorham Ave. The suspect was stopped and identified by the victim as the man who he had seen running from his house. The suspect was placed under arrest for Breaking and Entering and Burglary.


Sector 4

Larceny: 08/03/2013 at 2:37 p.m. – 2:41 p.m. – Harvard St.

An officer received a report on August 5, 2013 about a past theft on Harvard St. The victim stated she had left her purse in her unlocked office at her place of employment. After leaving her office for a brief period of time, she returned to find her purse had been taken. A review of the security surveillance cameras showed a man leaving the building, carrying a large box. The victim did not recognize the man and believed he should not have been in the building. The matter is under investigation.


Warrant Arrest: 08/05/2013 at 10:39 p.m. – Washington St.

An officer was dispatched to a residence on Terrace Rd. in order to serve an arrest warrant out of Dorchester District Court. Upon arrival, the officer was informed that the suspect no longer resided there. The current resident was asked to inform the suspect to contact the Brookline Police Department. Officers returned to the Brookline Police Department where the suspect arrived shortly after, around 10:30 p.m. The suspect was arrested without incident.


Sector 8

Larceny: 08/02/2013 at 5:00 p.m. – 08/03/2013 at 6:15 a.m. – Yarmouth Rd.

An officer received a report on August 5, 2013 from a victim who stated that between Friday evening and Saturday morning someone unearthed and stole twelve rhododendron plants from Yarmouth Rd. Neighbors did not report hearing or seeing anything suspicious. It is likely several individuals were involved due to the weight and number of plants stolen.

Update on Home Break-Ins

    Last week Brookline experienced a rash of home break-ins. A fingerprint was found at one of the scenes on Aspinwall Ave., which led to the identification of Jose A. Quinones, age 21 [08/02/1992]. Quinones is a Boston resident at 3037 Washington Street. A warrant was issued by Brookline District Court. This past weekend Boston Police apprehended Quinones in Boston. Quinones is being linked to three instances of Breaking and Entering in Brookline.
    Today a second suspect, Thomas Mello age 47 [10/14/1965], was arrested by Brookline officers. Mello has no known address. Officers were dispatched to a residence on Welland Rd. at 11 a.m. this morning after receiving a report of suspicious activity. Officers were able to interrupt Mello in the process of Breaking and Entering. Mello has been arrested and is being investigated in regards to his possible involvement in other home break-ins.

Sector 1

Operating After Suspension: 08/02/2013 at 10:58 p.m. – Harvard St.

An officer observed a vehicle fail to stop for a red light. A traffic stop was initiated on Harvard St. A query revealed the driver had a suspended driver’s license. The driver was placed under arrest for Operating After Suspension. 


Fraud: 08/04/2013 at 12:37 p.m. – St. Paul St.

An officer was dispatched to a residence on St. Paul St. after receiving a report of internet fraud. Upon arrival, the victim explained she had found an apartment for rent on Craig’s List and had been in contact via email with the owner. She had sent the owner, who claimed to be in the Philippines, first month’s rent and a security deposit, but had never received the keys to the apartment. The victim then tried to reach the owner via email and telephone but was unable to do so. The matter is currently under investigation.

Larceny: 08/04/2013 at 2:30 p.m. – Harvard St.

An officer was dispatched to the front desk of the Brookline Police Department for a report of a past Larceny. The victim stated she was eating lunch at a restaurant in Coolidge Corner when she left her purse unattended for a brief time. Upon returning to her table, she saw her wallet and cell phone were missing from her purse. The officer attempted to track the cell phone using a Find My IPhone Application offered through Apple. However, the officer was unsuccessful due to the inaccuracy of the app as well as there being no description of the suspect. The matter is currently under investigation.


Sector 2

Larceny: 08/04/2013 at 7:30 p.m. – Marshall St./ Sewall Ave. 

Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Marshall St. and Sewall Ave after receiving a report that the GPS Unit on the Bait Bike had been activated. The bike had been deployed earlier in the day and secured with a cable lock to a sign pole. Officers continued tracking the Bait Bike to the intersection of Longwood Ave and Kent St. At this time, officers observed two males on bicycles, one of which was riding the Bait Bike. The suspects were stopped and questioned by the officers. Both bikes were confiscated and the suspects were placed under arrest for Larceny of Property over $250.00.

Operating After Suspension: 08/04/2013 at 10:44 p.m. – Beacon St./ Centre St.

An officer observed a vehicle make an illegal left turn. The officer initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Beacon and Centre St. A query revealed the driver of the vehicle had a suspended driver’s license. She was placed under arrest for Operating After Suspension.


Sector 4

Warrant Arrest: 08/03/2013 at 7:45 p.m. – Washington St./ Boylston St.

A random query of a vehicle’s registration revealed the owner of the vehicle had a warrant out of Quincy District Court. An officer initiated a traffic stop on Washington St. The officer verified the driver of the vehicle was the owner. The driver was placed under arrest.
