11:26 AM- Officers were dispatched to Harvard Street for a
request for police following an assault and larceny at a store. Upon arrival an officer spoke with the store
manager who reported a black male left the store with 5 bags containing
produce. The suspect fled on a black
bike with the bags on the handle bars and traveled up Vernon Street toward Park
Street. This information was radioed to
dispatch and multiple units were dispatched to the area in an attempt to locate
the suspect. The reporting party also
informed the officer that before the suspect left, he got into an altercation with
an employee who witnessed the suspect placing items into his bag. The officer spoke with the employee who
relayed he was in an aisle when he observed the suspect placing items into a
bag. He began to follow the suspect down
the aisle and stopped him outside. The
employee looked into the bags and asked the suspect if he has a receipt which
the suspect told him no. The employee
attempted to hold the suspect for police by holding onto his bike, and in an
attempt to get away the suspect struck the employee in the chest with a closed
fist. The employee then let go of the
bike. This case is being investigated.
