9/12- 9/16

Not Duly Licensed: 09/12/2013 at 6:22 p.m. – BU Bridge

An officer observed a vehicle operator repeatedly honking his horn at other vehicles in an attempt to get them to move despite heavy pedestrian traffic. The officer initiated a traffic stop on the BU Bridge. A query of the driver’s information revealed that he was not duly licensed. He was issued a citation.


Sector 1

Drug Possession: 09/13/2013 at 1:29 p.m. – Babcock St.

Officers were dispatched to Babcock St. after receiving a report of drug use. Upon arrival, officers met the party in question. Officers asked the suspect to empty his pockets, which revealed a capped syringe and a prescription pill bottle. Along with prescription medication, the pill bottle contained a cotton ball with brown residue on it, which officers believed to be heroin. A query of the suspect’s information revealed he had two warrants out of Somerville District Court. He was placed under arrest for the warrants and Possession of a Class A Substance.

Larceny: 09/13/2013 at 8:09 p.m. – Beacon St.

Officers were dispatched to a business on Beacon St. after receiving a report of a larceny. Officers were informed that two suspects, a male and female, left the store with several bottles of Tide without paying. A canvas of the area revealed the male suspect, who was carrying several bottles of Tide. A review of video surveillance confirmed the suspect was the same man from the store. Officers continued searching the area, but were unable to locate the female suspect. The suspect in custody was placed under arrest for Larceny.

Larceny: 08/30/2013 at 11:00 p.m. – Pleasant St.

An officer was dispatched to a residence on Pleasant St. for a past larceny. The officer was met by the victim who stated she had a package delivered on August 30th, but found when she arrived home the package was not there. The victim had spoken with the landlord and neighbors, but no one reported seeing the package.


Sector 3

Larceny: 09/12/2013 at 12:45 p.m. – Winchester St.

An officer received a report of larceny where the victim stated she left a large bag containing assorted clothing and items outside of her apartment to be collected by the organization Big Brother, Big Sister. After several hours she noticed the bag was missing. She called the organization to see if they had collected the bag and discovered they had not.

Larceny: 09/11/2013 at 7:50 a.m. – Mason Tr.

An officer was dispatched to Mason Tr. after receiving a report of a stolen bicycle. The victim stated his bicycle was stolen between September 6th and September 11th. His bike was unsecured and underneath an enclosed porch. A neighbor also reported her bike stolen from the area.

Arson: 09/15/2013 at 4:14 a.m. – Coolidge St.

Officers were dispatched to a residence on Coolidge St. after receiving a report of arson. Upon arrival, the officers were met by the residents who had been awoken by a loud banging noise and the smell of smoke. Further investigation revealed a ring of fire inside the foyer, which was extinguished with aid from the Brookline Fire Department. One of the residents stated she had observed a male standing in their driveway, who walked towards Winchester St. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect. Further investigation revealed the right side passenger window of the resident’s car was smashed and objects from the glove compartment were strewn throughout the car. Nothing appeared to be missing according to the residents. 

Burglary: 09/15/2013 at 2:35 p.m. – Harvard St.

An officer was dispatched to a business on Harvard St. to receive a report of an attempted Breaking and Entering. Upon arrival, the officer was met by the store’s owner who had arrived at work and noticed damage to the front door window. A review of video surveillance reveals a suspect attempting to kick in the door of the business around 2:30 a.m. The suspect fled the scene after his attempt to break in was unsuccessful.

Operating After Suspension: 09/15/2013 at 7:42 p.m. – Harvard St./ Kenwood St.

An officer was dispatched to Harvard St. for a motor vehicle accident involving a cyclist. The cyclist stated a vehicle abruptly cut him off, causing him to make contact with the right side of the vehicle before falling to the ground. The operator of the vehicle pulled over and assisted the cyclist until officers arrived. A query of the driver’s information revealed he had a suspended license. He was issued a citation for Operating After Suspension.


Sector 4

Larceny: 09/12/2013 at 5:10 p.m. – White Pl.

An officer was dispatched to the front desk in order to receive a report of larceny. The officer was met by the victim who stated her cell phone was taken from the mount on her bicycle, which was parked in front of her home. Though the cell phone was unsecured, the victim stated she only left it unattended for a few minutes. The victim was able to use AT&T’s tracking service to follow her phone to the MBTA Green Line stop in Brookline Village, but at this point was unable to follow it further as it was turned off.

Larceny: 09/13/2013 at 12:01 p.m.- Walnut St.

An officer was dispatched to Walnut St. in order to receive a report of Larceny by False Pretense. Upon arrival, the officer was met by the victim who stated he was contacted by a financial company called the National Aid Group for a new loan. He was informed that the company would close out a loan with Quicken Loan and the loan would then be switched to the National Aid Group. The victim sent three payments to the National Aid Group before being contacted by Quicken Loan informing him that his loan with them had not been closed out. The victim then tried to contact the National Aid Group with no success.

Operating After Suspension: 09/15/2013 at 2:57 a.m. – Washington St.

A random query of a vehicle’s information revealed the owner had a suspended license. An officer initiated a traffic stop on Washington St. The officer confirmed the operator was the owner of the vehicle. She was placed under arrest for Operating After Suspension.


Sector 5

Larceny: 09/13/2013 at 10:55 a.m. – Greenough St.

An officer was dispatched to a residence on Browne St. to receive a report of a past larceny. The officer was met by the victim who stated that while in class earlier in the day, she briefly left her cell phone unattended during which time it was stolen.

Assault: 09/14/2013 at 11:56 p.m. – Beacon St.

Officers were dispatched to Beacon St. after receiving a report of assault. An officer had been parked on Beacon St. when a male subject had approached her vehicle and attempted to gain access via the passenger door. The officer informed the man that it was a police vehicle and he should back away. The man continued to try and gain access to the vehicle, at which time the officer got out of the vehicle and asked the man for identification. The man then pushed the officer backwards. The officer was assisted by another officer to place the man in handcuffs. He was placed under arrest for Assault.
