1:52 a.m.: Officers and the Brookline Fire Department
responded to an address on Park Street for an individual locked in their
bedroom. With the resident’s consent, forced entry was used to enter the
apartment. The resident was advised to contact her landlord to have the
necessary repairs made.
1:45 a.m.: An officer observed a motorized scooter
travelling east on School Street and turn south onto Harvard Street with no
headlights on and neither of the two occupants wearing helmets. Later, the
officer observed the operator turn left onto Kent Street without stopping at a
stop sign. When the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the operator
did not stop until he drove into the Muddy River Pathway, failing to stop at a
red light in the process. The operator and passenger dismounted the scooter.
The operator was placed under arrest and issued citations for Failure to Stop
for a Police Officer, Failure to Display Headlights/Taillights, Restricted Way
Violation, Failure to Stop Red Light, Failure to Stop Posted Sign, No Helmet
while Operating or Riding on Motorized Scooter, Unlicensed Operation, No
Operation after Sunset, and Allowing
Passenger. The passenger was sent on his way and issued a citation for No
Helmet while Operating on Motorized Scooter.
6:09 p.m.: Officers
were dispatched to a business on Beacon Street for a report of shoplifting.
Upon arrival, an officer spoke to the owner of the business who stated a man
had stolen an item form his store. He explained that the man was in the store
with three other individuals and while the owner was speaking to the others, he
thought he observed the man place an item in his pocket. He later checked his
security footage and saw the event occur. The owner will do an inventory check
to determine if anything else is missing and the surveillance footage is in
police custody.
7/01/2017
7:15 a.m.: A citizen provided an officer with a wallet that
was found in a parking lot on Harvard Street. The wallet contained a license
and the officer attempted to contact the owner, but was unsuccessful. The
wallet has been placed into evidence for safekeeping.
11:05 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to an address on
Franklin Street for a report of a bicycle theft. The reporting party stated he
left his bicycle unlocked in the basement of his residence and had last seen it
on 6/25, but when he returned to the basement on 6/30 he noticed the bicycle
was gone. The doors to the basement were not locked.
10:04 a.m.: Detectives and officers went to an address on
Governors Road in Winthrop to affect the arrest of an individual for multiple
outstanding warrants. The individual was placed under arrest without incident.
2:11 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to the Lawrence School
Park for a driver in the rear playground. The driver had driven his vehicle
onto the playground path and while attempting to turn around hit a Town of
Brookline light pole. An officer carefully drove the vehicle out of the park to
be retrieved later. The operator was taken to the station and later given a
courtesy transport home.
7:28 p.m.: An individual reported his car had been broken
into. The reporting party stated he had left his unlocked van parked on Elm
Street and between 12:30 p.m. and 3:10 p.m. someone entered the vehicle and
stole his wallet. He was advised to cancel all his credit cards and contact the
credit bureaus regarding the incident.
6:12 p.m.: An officer observed a red motor cycle travelling
on Boylston Street stop for a red traffic signal in the right turn only lane.
When the vehicle failed to make a right turn after getting the green light, the
officer in his cruiser pointed for the operator to pull over, but instead the
operator fled at a high speed toward Cypress Street. Other officers in the area
and dispatch were notified of the incident. From a partial plate obtained by
another officer, the registered owner was identified. At 7:00 p.m., officers
drove to the owners address and observed a red motor cycle in the driveway. The
owner of the vehicle answered the door and was informed he would be summonsed
to court and was issued citations for Failure to Stop Police Officer, Operate
to Endanger, Speeding (Unreasonable), and Marked Lane Violation.
7/02/2017
5:36 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to an address on Fuller
Street for a past hit and run. The reporting party pointed the officer in the
direction of his vehicle which had damage to its rear left wheel and the entire
left side of the vehicle. He stated he parked the vehicle at approximately 1:10
p.m. and returned to it at approximately 5:30 p.m. to find the vehicle damaged.
The party was advised to contact his insurance company.
10:26 p.m.: An officer responded to an address on
Beaconsfield Road for a house lock in. Upon arrival with Brookline Fire, the
reporting party stated an individual was locked in the bathroom. In order to
gain entry to the room, Brookline fire removed the door handle and caused
slight damage to the door lock, door and frame. The reporting party stated they
would notify their landlord regarding the damage.
7/03/2017
Officers conducted a follow-up investigation regarding an
incident that occurred on 6/28 involving a Health Department employee at an
address on Harvard Street. An employee at a business on Harvard Street was
found to be in violation of town and state laws involving tobacco sales. A town
Health Department employee returned to the business to issue a violation to the
owner of the establishment who she stated acted belligerent toward her, began
yelling, and threw something on the floor in anger. Officers returned to the business
on 6/29 and spoke to the owner about the incident. They advised him that the
investigation was completed by the Health Department and he should not exhibit
aggressive behavior toward town employees during the course of their duties.
The reporting party was advised to contact the police if necessary during such
instances.
4:09 p.m.: A citizen reported to the front desk of the
police station she was the victim of an online scam. She stated she was looking
to rent an apartment and after contacting a renter multiple times, she
transferred money to an account. After the transaction took place, the renter
did not return emails or texts and the reporting party was contacted requesting
more money. The party declined the request and went to the address listed to
find there was no apartment for rent and she was a victim of fraud. She is
working with her bank to retrieve the money and will notify the police if she
is successful.
4:27 p.m.: An individual reported an incident that occurred at
her place of work on Beacon Street on 7/01. She stated that at approximately
2:45 p.m. she took a break in the locker room and returned her cell phone to
her purse at approximately 2:40 p.m. At 5:30 p.m. the cell phone was gone. The
locker room area is unsecured. She was able to locate the phone in the rear
parking lot. It was missing its SIM Card and Micro SD Card. Detective follow up
has been requested.
6:40 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to an address on Freeman
Street for a fire alarm sounding. Upon arrival with the Brookline Fire
Department, the location of the alarm was located. Forced entry was necessary
to enter the residence to determine that there was no active fire. On duty
security personnel and the resident were notified of the situation.
4:17 p.m.: An officer responded to an address on Beacon
Street for a report of fraud. The victim stated she found an apartment to rent
on Craigslist and emailed the renter. She received a response requesting the
fee to rent the apartment for a month. After sending the money, the reporting
party did not receive a receipt and the renter stopped replying to her emails.
The party was originally advised to wait until July 1st and if the
rental did not go through to contact the police. On 7/3 she advised the officer
that she was never able to rent the apartment and did not hear from the renter.
The victim notified her bank when it was found the apartment did not exist. Follow
up by the detective division has been requested.
10:40 p.m.: An officer responded to an address on Davis
Avenue for a report of threats. Upon arrive the officer spoke to the reporting
party who explained that he and his wife made arrangements to purchase a
television advertised on Craigslist. They arranged to meet the seller, but due
to the location and time of night, when the seller had not arrived, they left
the area. They let the seller know they were no longer interested and received
various texts that became threatening. Officers called the number the reporting
party was in contact with and left a message but received no response. The
reporting party was advised to block the phone number on his own phone and not
to respond.
7/04/2017
9:58 a.m.: Brookline Fire and multiple police units were
dispatched to an address on Green Street for a report of smoke in an apartment.
The fire department determined the smoke/fire was caused by an overheated motor
in a hood fan in the kitchen ceiling. The fire was extinguished and the fan was
removed. The owner of the residence was advised to contact an electrician,
contact his insurance company, and follow up with the Fire Prevention Office.
12:58 p.m.: While sitting at a red light on Kent Street
waiting to turn onto Harvard Street, an officer observed a vehicle go through a
red light. A traffic stop was conducted at the intersection of White Place and
Washington Street. During the stop, the operator was found to have a suspended
non-renewable license. The operator will be summonsed to court for Operating
After Suspension and the Traffic Offense of Failure to Stop for a Red Light. He
was sent on his way and the vehicle was towed form the scene.
