M/V Crash, Two arrest, Injury to child

On Jan 13th at 10:13Pm officers were dispatched to South Street and Newton Street for reports of an M/V crash. A single car crash, the car had struck a utility pole. When officers arrived they found a male party sitting outside the car holding a young child. Witness on scene informed officers that another subject, the driver was seen walking away from the crash scene. That subject was located by officers at the Stores of Putterham. (The intersection of Grove and West Roxbury Parkway approx 3 tenths of a mile away.)
Based upon the information the officers had the Driver was arrested and charged with OUIL , Leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash with injury and Operating without a license. Also as a result of the preliminary investigation an ICE detainer has been requested by this Department.
The passenger has been arrested and charged with Allowing through wanton or reckless conduct substantial bodily injury to a child and allowing an improper person to operate a motor vehicle. The passenger is the owner of the vehicle.
The child passenger was taken from the scene to the Children’s Hospital, where they underwent surgery. The child has been listed as critical but in stable condition.
Traffic investigators have taken over the investigation which is still ongoing, part of which has led to the request for a search warrant for the vehicle.
