8/16/2017

1:59 a.m.: An officer observed a vehicle travelling north on Washington Street at a high speed. The vehicle turned onto Bartlett Crescent and then took a left turn onto Bartlett Street in violation of the posted One-Way. The officer activated his overhead lights in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle continued onto Westbourne Terrace until it struck the curb causing damage to the tire and rim. The operator then jumped into the backseat of the vehicle. The operator and passenger were identified. The operator was not licensed. He was placed under arrest and issued a citation for Unlicensed Operation of a MV and Violation of a One Way. The vehicle was released to the passenger who had an active driver’s license.

9:48 a.m.: An officer responded to the front desk of the Brookline Police Station for a report of package theft. The reporting party stated she received confirmation that her package had been delivered on 8/10. The packages are usually left inside the unlocked front door of the building by the mailboxes. The victim filed a claim with FedEx and has provided officers the tracking number.

9:52 a.m.: An individual was placed under arrest for an active arrest warrant. He was transported to the Brookline Police Station where he was booked and advised of his rights.

10:06 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to an address on Beacon Street for a noise complaint regarding the use of leaf blowers. Upon arrival, the officer met with the landscapers and advised them of the town’s leaf blower by law.

10:30 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to an address on Thorndike Street for a report of a suspicious person in the reporting party’s hammock. Upon arrival, the subject was gone, but officers discovered a wallet containing an ID. Officers brought the wallet to the station for safekeeping.

12:00 p.m.: While on patrol, an officer met an individual regarding an attempted package theft. The reporting party stated he received an online notice stating his package had been delivered on 8/15. On 8/16 at approximately 11:40 a.m., the package had been opened and left right outside his apartment door. The merchandise was still in the box.

12:34 p.m.: A citizen reported that his motor vehicle had been stolen out of a parking lot on Harvard Street. Officers were able to obtain video surveillance from the area and observed a male with facial hair, wearing a blue button shirt, black shorts, and tan shoes get into the victim’s vehicle and exit the parking lot onto Harvard Street. At approximately 6:48 p.m., Brookline Dispatch received a second call from an address on Thorndike Street. The original caller stated the party that had been on her hammock was now sitting on her neighbor’s porch. Officers arrived and observed the individual noting that he matched the description of the subject involved in the motor vehicle theft. He stated his name which matched the ID in the wallet that was discovered on Thorndike Street earlier in the day. The subject was placed under arrest for Larceny of a Motor Vehicle. Officers canvassed the area for the vehicle, but were unable to locate it.

11:58 p.m.: Officers, along with Brookline Fire, responded to the Pierce Park Playground on the Harvard Avenue side for an outside fire. Upon arrival, the slide of the jungle gym was engulfed in flames. Brookline Fire arrived on scene and extinguished the fire. Brookline Fire informed officers that he believed the fire was set intentionally. A resident of Harvard Street approached an officer and stated that at approximately 11:30 p.m., he observed four young males in the area of the fire. At approximately 2:30 a.m., the officer spoke to two male parties at the Pierce Playground basketball courts. The officer took their information and sent them on their way. The Parks Department was notified of the incident and the play structure was taped off.  Follow up by the Detective Division has been requested.
