Police Reports December 26


On December 26, 2013 Brookline Police responded to the intersection of Kent St and Aspinwall Ave for a two car motor vehicle traffic crash. Vehicle 1 was driving  on Kent St towards Beacon St when  Vehicle 2  took a quick left turn in front of Vehicle 1.  Vehicle #1 was unable to move out of the way in time and collided into the rear right side of Vehicle #2. Vehicle #1 suffered major front end damage, Vehicle #2 had damage to its rear right tail light.  All parties stated that they did not need any medical attention.

On December 26, 2013, a single car MV crash was reported to Brookline Police. The vehicle, in the area of  965 Hammond St. spun out 180 degrees on a thin layer of slush and Ice, and struck a light pole owned by the Town of Brookline.  Front and side airbags were deployed.  No injuries reported.

On December 26, 2013 Brookline Police responded to Carlton St for a single vehicle traffic crash. The driver reports that while driving on Calton St towards Beacon St the vehicle began to lose control and skid,  subsequently colliding head on into a light pole directly in front of 3 Carlton St. The front end of the vehicle suffered major damage. It was snowing at the time and the roadways were extremely slushy and wet. The pole suffered minor damage.

On 12-26-2013, Brookline Police responded to Newton St. for a vehicle fire. Upon arrival, officers  observed a 2006 Honda Accord fully engulfed in flames. The vehicle was unoccupied and appeared to be parked. It was obvious to the responding officers that the fire started in the rear of the vehicle. Brookline Fire arrived and was able to contain the fire.  The vehicles owner was alerted by another motorist that his vehicle was on fire. The driver quickly pulled over, exited the vehicle, and proceeded to contact 911.

On Thursday, 12/26/13 at approximately 1035hrs a Brookline Police Officer, on patrol walking through the parking lot of the gas station on Harvard St.  detected a strong odor of what he believed to be burnt marijuana. The Officer tracked the odor to a black Honda Civic that was occupied by a male operator. The Officer observed the operator raise what appeared to be a cigarette to his mouth and light it with a lighter. The operator kept the lighter to the cigarette for an extended period of time while inhaling. Based on the Officers training and experience he believed the operator to be smoking Marijuana.

The Officer approached the vehicle and notified Brookline Dispatch of his location. Other Officers arrived to assist.  Upon further investigation the subject was identified and issued a Town-By Law citation  MGL c. 94c s. 32L for Possession of Less Than 1 Ounce of Marijuana.
