FRAUD

Officers responded to a report of identity fraud on High Street. The victim reported that a credit card account was opened using their personal information and an out-of-state address. They also discovered several unauthorized transactions, which they have disputed. Officers advised the victim to contact the Social Security Administration’s Fraud Hotline, Federal Trade Commission, and their banking institutions.

Employees at a business on Commonwealth Avenue reported a shoplifting incident.

ANIMAL BITE

An individual reported that their leashed dog was bitten by another leashed dog on Colbourne Cres. A citation was issued to the owner of the second dog, the one that became aggressive. 

FRAUD

A report of fraud was filed at the front desk of the Brookline Police Station. The reporting party received a letter to their residence on Beacon Street from the Department of Unemployment Assistance regarding a request to file for unemployment. However, the individual never filed for unemployment and is concerned about identity fraud. 

CAR BREAK

Officers responded to Browne Street for a past car break. The reporting party believes the break in most likely occurred several days prior and they noted that numerous items were missing from the vehicle.

SHOPLIFTING

An individual was reported shoplifting from a business on Harvard St. The suspect was located at the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Harvard Street. The stolen item was returned to the business and the guilty party was summoned to the Brookline District Court for shoplifting. 

PACKAGE THEFT

A resident reported a package theft to the front desk of the Brookline Police Department. They stated they received a delivery notification for a package at their Kent Street residence, but when they checked a few hours later, the package was gone.

CHECK FRAUD

Officers received report of check fraud involving a check stolen from a mailbox on Winchester Street. 

BIKE THEFT

A resident on Babcock Street reported that two electric bicycles were stolen from a bike rack outside their building. One of the bikes was later recovered nearby, while the other remains missing. 

CHECK FRAUD

Another case of check fraud was reported to the front desk of the police station. The reporting party stated that they received notices about fraudulent checks issued in their name, connected to casinos in a different state. The individual confirmed they had not authorized the transactions or visited the locations. No financial loss occurred, and the matter is being looked into further.

SHOPLIFTING

An individual was arrested for shoplifting and trespassing at a business on Beacon Street. Staff observed the person leaving with unpaid merchandise. The stolen item was recovered and returned, and the individual was placed under arrest.

An individual on Park Street reported suspected debit card fraud. The victim noticed unauthorized transactions and closed their account.

Officers took a walk-in report regarding a suspected compromised email. The reporting party unknowingly sent funds to a scammer posing as a contractor. A second unauthorized wire transfer was later flagged by the victim’s bank.

BIKE THEFT

A bicycle was stolen from a residence on Jenness Rd. The bike was not locked when it was stolen.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD

Officers received a walk-in report of ongoing identity theft. The individual believed that a prior data breach may have contributed to the recent fraudulent activity they experienced. Despite placing credit freezes and taking other preventative measures, they discovered that their credit had been unfrozen without their knowledge, resulting in the opening of a fraudulent account.

BIKE THEFT

A bike theft was reported on Browne Street. The reporting party stated they had locked their bike to a street sign and later discovered it was missing the following day.

ANIMAL BITE

A dog bite occurred on Pearl St. The owner confirmed that their dog was up to date on vaccinations and was issued a town by-law citation for the incident.

FRAUD

An officer was dispatched to Beacon Street to a report of compromised Instagram accounts involving fraudulent activity and payment demands. The officer advised the parties to cease contact and monitor their accounts. The case was closed after confirming that there was no suspicious financial activity.

A past shoplifting was reported on Beacon St. 

FOUND PROPERTY

A visa identification card was found in the area of Walnut Street and Irving St. It was turned into the police station and was placed into evidence for safekeeping.

CAR BREAK 

Officers responded to a reported breaking and entering at a car dealership on Boylston Street, where the suspect was believed to still be on scene. Upon arrival, the individual was found asleep inside a customer’s vehicle. Investigation revealed the suspect had unlawfully entered at least four vehicles over a two-day period, including the unauthorized use and return of one vehicle. The suspect was arrested.

SHOPLIFTING

A shoplifting incident was reported on Commonwealth Avenue after a suspect was observed concealing merchandise and fleeing the store. The individual was later identified through surveillance footage and apprehended by another law enforcement agency for an unrelated matter. They are also suspected of involvement in a previous theft from the same location and will be charged with shoplifting.

A case of check fraud was reported on Eliot St.

An individual was reported to be shoplifting at a business on Harvard St. The suspect was seen fleeing with stolen merchandise and later identified. The suspects were placed under arrest.

An individual reported a stolen rental trailer from their business on Boylston St. The trailer was originally rented for one day; however, the renter has failed to return it. 

DOG BITE

Officers responded to a past dog bite on Hamilton Street. An unvaccinated dog bit a child in the foot and broke the skin. The dog must be quarantined for 10 days. The owners were advised to consult a doctor, vaccinate and license the dog, and were informed that if the owner decides to euthanize the dog before quarantine ends, testing for rabies is required.

Officers received report that a set of keys were stolen from a lobby on Pleasant St. The owner unintentionally left their keys on a couch and found that they'd been taken a few minutes later. They had their locks changed and were advised to continue to be cautious in the future. 

BAT COMPLAINT

An individual on Pleasant St. reported that they witnessed a bat flying around the ground level of their building. Animal control was informed of the situation.

An electric scooter was stolen from a bike rack on Washington St. The cable lock that secured the bike to the rack was found on the ground.

The front windows of a business on Cypress Street were vandalized, with etchings carved into the glass.

An individual on Marion Street was bitten on their finger by a squirrel. They were advised to clean the wound and seek medical attention. 

BAT EXPOSURE

Officers and Bayside Wildlife responded to a case of possible bat exposure on Davis Ave. The homeowners were advised to seek medical attention and get the rabies vaccine if exposed to the bat. 

ID FRAUD

An individual reported that they received mail to their residence on Lagrange Street from the Department of Unemployment Assistance stating they had a past-due balance. However, they are not unemployed and were informed by the DUA hotline that the mail is fraudulent. The reporting party was advised to monitor their accounts and contact the Social Security Administration.

ID FRAUD 

An individual reported a case of fraud at the front desk of the Brookline Police Department. They stated they received a notification from a company with which they do not have an account. It was discovered that an account had been fraudulently opened in their name using an address different from their own. They have not lost any monetary value at this time.

A case of shoplifting involving two suspects on Beacon Street was reported to police.

Officers responded to Beacon St. for a report of malicious damage of a religious building. 

LARCENY OF AUTO-ACCESSORY

An individual approached the front desk of the Brookline Police Department and reported a stolen U-Haul trailer. The trailer was originally located on Boylston St. 

CREDIT CARD FRAUD

A report of credit card fraud was reported on Boylston St. The individual stated that the card is used exclusively for purchases at specific stores, which contributed to a delay in noticing the unauthorized charges. The suspect was summonsed to court. 

SHOPLIFTING

Officers responded to Harvard Street for a report of shoplifting with two suspects. After some investigation, the Brookline Police Department arrested three individuals in relation to this event. Suspects were arrested.

FIREWORKS

Several police units responded to Washington Street and Griggs Road for a report of noise disruption and suspected gunshots. Surveillance footage revealed that the concerning noise was the result of fireworks in Griggs Park.

An individual on Stearns Rd reported fraudulent charges on their credit card. The charges originated from a location with which the individual has never visited. 

ANIMAL BITE

An individual approached the front desk at the Brookline Police Station to report that their dog was bitten by another dog on Highland Rd/Jamaica Rd. 

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

Officers responded to suspicious activity on Addington Rd. The individual reported that they returned home from a trip and noticed multiple items around their home were moved to different positions/rooms. Officers found no signs of forced entry and nothing was reported stolen.

Officers received a report of a breaking and entering on West Roxbury Pk.

FRAUD

Officers responded to a report of fraud occurring at the intersection of Babcock and Harvard St. The reporting party was approached by an individual who asked for money for a train fare and claimed they would reimburse the funds via Zelle. The reporting party did not receive the funds as promised, and discovered this experience was common fraud trend.

Police responded to a fraud and larceny case on Highland Rd. An individual attempted to rent out an apartment they did not own. After receiving payment, the fraudulent party ceased communication with the victim. This case was closed.

Officers responded to a report of identity fraud on Monmouth St. The individual received a notification that there had been several attempts to open credit cards under their name.

Officers responded to a reported larceny on Commonwealth Ave. Security footage revealed that two individuals shoplifted together and a criminal complaint has been filed with the Brookline District court.
