Police Reports 1/17/2014-1/20/2014
On January 17, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Beacon St. and Washington St. for a car crash. Witnesses to the crash stated that a white vehicle had been speeding and ran a red light, hitting another vehicle. When speaking to the operator of the white vehicle, officers detected an odor of alcohol and slurred speech. The driver was taken into custody and is being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, red light violation, speeding, and operating to endanger.
On January 17, officers were dispatched to Beacon St. for a traffic crash. One vehicle had collided with a second vehicle, pushing it onto a curb, over a street sign and into a street lamp. Officers spoke to the operator of the first vehicle and observed the driver to have glassy and bloodshot eyes and an odor of liquor. The driver was taken into custody and cited with operating under the influence of liquor, speeding, and a marked lanes violation.
On January 17, officers responded to the CVS on Harvard St. for a report of shoplifting. An employee of the store had seen a man taking items from the shelves and placing them into his jacket and pants pockets. The suspect was located and taken into custody for shoplifting.
On January 17, an employee of a rental vehicle company reported a fleet vehicle stolen. It was reported that the vehicle was taken the day before from the rear of the rental building.
On January 17, an officer responded to an apartment building on Boylston St. for a report of larceny. The resident of one of the units reported that upon arrival back from his winter vacation, he noticed multiple items missing from his bedroom. The other resident of the unit reported that cash was stolen from the backpack in his bedroom.
On January 17, residents of an apartment on Kent St. reported an incident of vandalism. An officer reported to the scene and the residents showed that their front window’s exterior pane of glass had been broken.
On January 18, a woman reported that her specialized road bike had been stolen from her storage bin in a garage on Hammond Pond Parkway.
On January 19, officers responded to a parking lot behind a building on Washington St. A witness informed the officers that a pickup truck with a plow on the front had struck two parked vehicles on Washington St. and had left the scene. The officers spoke to the driver of the pickup truck and observed a knife clipped to his pants which officers secured for safety purposes. The knife was found to be double-sided and spring loaded causing it to be considered a per se dangerous weapon. The driver was placed under arrest and marijuana, cocaine and heroin were found on his person.
On January 20, an officer observed a vehicle traveling on Harvard St. with an expired registration sticker. The officer initiated a traffic stop and discovered that driver’s right to operate a motor vehicle in Massachusetts was expired. The driver was issued a citation and his vehicle was towed.
On January 20, an officer was dispatched to an apartment on Longwood Ave. for a report of counterfeit money being exchanged for an iPad mini. The resident had placed an ad on Craigslist to sell an iPad mini. Someone had responded to the ad and they had met and made the exchange, iPad for cash. The bills were not accepted at an ATM causing the man to report it to the police who observed the bills to be fake.
On January 20, an officer responded to an apartment on Beacon St. for a larceny report. A woman stated that upon flying back to Logan International Airport, her bag had not made the flight and she was told it would be delivered to her residence upon its arrival in Boston. Once the bag was delivered, the woman noticed that a Coach bag containing jewelry and her prescription medicine were missing.
On January 20, officers responded to a building on Boylston St. for a report of a masked man inside. A man was located in a stall in the women’s bathroom and was placed under arrest for trespassing.
On January 20, an officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Washington St. and passing through a red light. The officer initiated a traffic stop and the driver could not provide his license or any form of ID. The officer ran the name and license number given by the driver and found that the picture did not resemble the driver. Once aware of the driver’s real name, a check with the RMV showed that the driver’s license was suspended. The driver was placed under arrest and charged with failure to stop at a red light, providing a false name/address, and operating after suspension.

In the early hours of January 16, an officer observed a vehicle travelling on Harvard St. who failed to dim their high beams with the approach of an oncoming vehicle. The officer conducted a traffic stop and the driver was unable to provide his registration, license, or any identification. It was discovered that the driver had provided false information to the officer and a BOP query showed that the driver had a suspended driver’s license and an active straight warrant. The driver was placed under arrest and charged with failure to dim high beams to oncoming traffic, providing false name/DOB to police officers, and operating a MV after license suspension.
On January 16, an officer observed a vehicle on Sherrin Rd. that was running with its parking lights on. The two occupants appeared to be acting suspicious and when they exited the vehicle, the officer approached them and asked for their ID’s. During the interaction, the officer detected an odor of marijuana and nervous behavior. One of the men was found to be carrying marijuana and was cited for possessing less than 1 oz. of marijuana.
On January 16, an officer responded to a report of larceny at a building on Heath Street. A woman spoke to the officer and stated that a wallet had been stolen from a resident’s purse which she keeps in her living room. The same woman had reported her wallet stolen out of her room in December.

Officers spoke to two residents of the home who were underage and entered the home to investigate more underage drinking. Officers witnessed 50-70 people, 3 kegs of beer, multiple bottles of vodka, and a small baggy of marijuana all in plain sight. Both residents were issued Town By Law citations for violating the Town’s Nuisance Ordinance and will be charged with minor in possession of alcohol and disturbing the peace. One of the residents is being cited for possession of less than one ounce of marijuana.

On January 15, officers responded to a building on Freeman St. for a complaint of people smoking marijuana. Upon arrival, the smell of burnt marijuana was evident in the elevator and there was a haze of smoke in the hallway. When a resident came to the door, the officers were able to see multiple jars of a green leafy substance in plain sight. The officers entered the apartment and advised all four parties of their rights. The matter is currently under investigation.
On January 15, officers responded to an alarm from Blue Hills Bank on Beacon St. where a robbery had occurred. A man had entered the bank and approached one of the tellers at which point he pulled out a note and demanded money. The suspect was described as a white male in his 30’s with an average build. He wore large dark sunglasses, a dark tan coat, a hat covering his head and ears, and heavy gloves. On January 14, an officer was flagged down by a motorist who wanted to report an accident. The man stated that he had witnessed a vehicle driving on a traffic median and hitting a sign before driving off on Boylston St. The man had followed the vehicle to the Cleveland Circle and gave officers the license plate number. Officers verified the incident and got in contact with the driver.
On January 14, a vehicle making a left turn from Beacon St. to Marion St. hit a pedestrian who was walking in the crosswalk. The pedestrian refused assistance from the paramedics and was taken home and the driver was issued a citation for failure to stop for a pedestrian crosswalk.
On January 14, an officer responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident. The victim stated that as she crossed the crosswalk at Tappan St. and Blake Rd., a vehicle made contact with her right elbow. The operator of the car pulled over and tried to talk to the victim and then drove off when she didn’t answer. The victim sought medical care and the operator of the vehicle has not been located.

The driver was cited for operating after revocation, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, unregistered motor vehicle, and speeding.
On January 13, a woman reported a possible phone scam. The woman stated that she had been called by an unidentified individual who claimed that her brother had been in a car accident. The caller then asked for the brother’s personal information but when he was unable to give descriptive details about the brother, the woman hung up.
On January 13, a woman reported an incident of fraud. A business on Commonwealth Ave. had received a call from a NStar disconnect service stating that they owed money. Believing it was a scam, the woman hung up.
On January 13, a man received a call from an unidentified caller stating that his brother had been in an accident with the caller’s brother. The caller stated that they were holding the man’s brother hostage. Knowing the location of his brother, the man hung up.
On January 13, an officer initiated a traffic stop for a vehicle lacking a current inspection sticker. Standing next to the vehicle, the officer could detect an odor of raw marijuana. Police Reports 1/10/14-1/12/14
In the early hours of January 10, an officer observed a
vehicle speeding on Boylston St. and initiated a traffic stop. Upon discovering
that the operator’s license was suspended, the driver was taken into custody.
On January 10, a van was observed travelling through a stop
sign at the intersection of Freeman and Babcock streets. An officer conducted a
motor vehicle stop and discovered the operator’s license to have been expired
for several years. The driver was taken into custody and cited for failure to
stop and operating without a license.
On January 10, a man came to the Brookline Police Department
to report a case of fraud. Two weeks prior, the man had found a listing on
Craigslist for a personal assistant and was hired by an unknown party over the
phone. The man was mailed a check and told to deposit it into his personal
account. He was then instructed to withdraw money for a donation to an unknown
person and go to Walmart to purchase 2 MoneyPak cards and pass along the pins
on the back to the unknown party. The man was sent another check which he tried
to deposit and which caused him to learn that the first check had not been
valid. The man was unsuccessful in reaching the unknown party and realized he
had been the victim of a scam.
On January 10, officers were dispatched to a business on
Harvard St. for a report of shoplifting. The reporting party told officers that
he had attempted to stop the suspect as he left through the rear door and that the
suspect had placed the items on the ground inside the store before leaving. The
reporting party informed the officers of the suspect’s current location and
they placed him under arrest for shoplifting. During the inventory search,
officers found heroin on the suspect and also charged him with possession of a
Class A drug.
On January 11, an officer traveling on Boylston St. observed
a vehicle speeding and conducted a traffic stop. Upon speaking to the operator,
the officer observed that the driver had glassy and bloodshot eyes, slurred speech,
and there was a strong odor of alcohol. The driver handed over the vehicle
registration and a Mass identification card. After looking up the driver, the
officer found him to be driving with a revoked license and having a warrant for
possession of burglarious instrument and larceny. The driver was placed under
arrest for operating under the influence of alcohol.
On January 11, a vehicle was observed repeatedly crossing
the double yellow lines on Chestnut Hill Ave. and was pulled over. Upon arrival
at the vehicle, the officer observed the operator as having bloodshot and
glassy eyes and an odor of alcohol. The driver was taken into custody for
operating under the influence of alcohol.
On January 11, officers responded to a restaurant on Beacon
St. where an alarm was going off. Officers discovered that one of the front
windows had been smashed and a brick was lying inside. Officers were unable to
contact the business owner.
On January 11, a man reported that his jacket, phone,
wallet, and keys had been stolen. The man stated that his possessions had been
taken when he had left them on a fence while running up and down Summit Ave.
On January 11, a woman reported that her handicap placard
was taken from her car while it was parked at the Centre St. parking lot.
On January 11, an officer was dispatched to the Panera Bread
on Harvard St. for a report of larceny. The reporting party told the officer
that he had placed his bag over the back of a chair before joining the line by
the counter. Upon return to the table a few minutes later, the bag was gone.
The messenger bag contained a laptop and iPad as well as some paperwork.
On January 12, an officer observed a vehicle speeding on
Harvard St. and failing to stop at a red light. The officer conducted a traffic
stop. Once the officer approached the vehicle and the driver rolled down their
window, a strong odor of marijuana was detected. A search of the vehicle
yielded a large bag of marijuana and the driver was placed under arrest for
speeding, red light violation, operating to endanger, school zone violation,
and possession of a Class D with intent to distribute.
On January 12, an officer observed a vehicle on Beacon St.
make an illegal left turn onto Washington St. The officer initiated a traffic
stop and discovered that the driver was operating with a suspended license and
the driver was placed under arrest.
On January 12, officers arrived on Beacon St. for suspicious
activity. The investigation led to arrests for possession of heroin, possession
of marijuana with intent to distribute, and prostitution.

On January 9 around 12:10am, a vehicle was spotted traveling on Washington St. without its headlights on. An officer initiated a traffic stop and was able to identify the operator by her passport as she lacked her driver’s license and the car’s registration. It was found that the operator’s license had been suspended. She will be summoned to court for operating after license suspension, failure to display headlights after sunset, and no registration in possession.
On January 9 at 2:22am, a minivan was seen traveling on Washington St. towards Brookline Ave. without its headlights on. An officer initiated a traffic stop and discovered the driver to be operating after license suspension. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license and failing to display headlights after sunset.
On January 9, an SUV was seen driving on Harvard St. with an expired inspection sticker. A traffic stop was conducted and the officer found the driver to be operating after suspension of his license. The driver was taken into custody.
On January 9, a man made a larceny report from a building on Summit Ave. Between January 7 and the morning of January 9, a yellow raincoat and a print of the word BOSTON with the city skyline had been stolen from the office.
On January 9, a vehicle was observed making an illegal right turn on a red traffic light onto John St. A traffic stop was initiated and the operator was found to be driving with an expired license. The driver was cited and will be summoned to court.
On January 9, a woman reported receiving calls from a man with an Indian accent stating he was from Windows IT. Each time he was asked who he was, the man hung up. The woman reported receiving similar calls in the past and that when she refused to give her credit card information, her computer was shut down.

Missing Person Found
The Brookline Police Department is happy to report 16 year
old, Caleb Jacoby, reported missing since January 6th, and has been
found. The Brookline Police, working with many other agencies over the past few days
were able to provide information to the New York City Police Department that
Caleb Jacoby may be in the area of Times Square. Based upon this information at
approximately 9PM New York City Police informed us they had located Caleb and
he was safe and sound. Plans are now being formulated to transport Caleb back
home. Thanks to all agencies that helped in this investigation. Also thanks to all those
who took to social media to help get the story out.

Police Reports 1/4/2014 thru 1/8/2014
On January 4, the Brookline Police received a call to report malicious damage. The caller reported that while his car was parked on Gerry Road overnight, his right rear tire was punctured. Upon taking his car in to get a new tire, the caller learned that his tire had been intentionally punctured by a nail, ice pick, or similar item.
On January 5, an officer was driving behind a vehicle on Harvard St. that had several inches of snow on the roof, trunk, rear window, and registration plate. The officer initiated a traffic stop and after removal of snow from the vehicle, the registration was revealed. After looking up the operator’s information, it was found that he was operating after license suspension and he was placed under arrest and cited for failing to remove the snow from his vehicle.
On January 5, an officer traveling northbound on Harvard St. observed an SUV change lanes, breaking a solid white line. The officer initiated a traffic stop and looked up the driver. While his license was from Hawaii, his vehicle was registered to him with a MA address. As citizens are required to obtain a MA driver’s license upon establishing residency, the driver was cited for operating without a license as well as a marked lanes violation.
On January 6, the foreman of a house currently being renovated reported that construction materials had been stolen from outside of the property sometime since January 2. The materials include aluminum pick planks and aluminum pump jacks.
On January 6, a woman living in a nursing home reported that her wallet had been stolen from her apartment. Aside from losing $200 in cash, the woman’s credit cards have been used to make purchases totaling over $1500.
On January 6, a motor vehicle driving on Grove St. was rear ended as the car in front of them stopped for a pedestrian and the car behind them failed to notice that the cars were stopping. The driver of the rear car admitted to driving too close and was issued a citation for failure to keep motor vehicle under control.
On January 6, a woman reported that while riding the C line, her Coach wallet was stolen out of her shoulder bag. The $180 wallet is missing as well as the woman’s credit cards and some cash.
On January 7, officers driving on Boylston observed an SUV committing a marked lines violation, red light violation, and speeding. The officers initiated a traffic stop and noticed a strong odor of liquor from the car’s interior. The driver had glassy, bloodshot eyes, and moderately slurred speech. Upon administration of a Standardized Field Sobriety Test, the driver failed. The suspect is being charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor, marked lanes, expired license, and speeding.
On January 7, an officer looked up the information for a car after they noticed that the side taillight did not illuminate upon breaking. The officer discovered that the registered owner had a default warrant in effect for his arrest. After confirming that the driver was the registered owner, the driver was taken into custody for operating a motor vehicle after suspension/revocation.
On January 7, a woman who had been away on vacation reported that several items were missing from her home on Egmont St. upon her arrival. She reported tools, costume jewelry, and watches as being stolen and believed that only her ex-boyfriend had access to her home.
On January 8, an officer responded to a building on Beacon St. for a larceny report. Between January 2 and January 6, power tools with a value totaling over $900 had been stolen from within the building.
On January 8, a woman reported that a package had possibly been stolen from her building on Beacon Street. While on vacation, she had asked the concierge to accept any packages and place them inside her unit as she was expecting an iPhone 5S. When she arrived home, there were four packages waiting none of which were an iPhone. The UPS site said the package had been delivered and the concierge reported placing five packages inside of her unit.

The suspect is being charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor, marked lanes, expired license, and speeding.
On January 7, an officer looked up the information for a car after they noticed that the side taillight did not illuminate upon breaking. The officer discovered that the registered owner had a default warrant in effect for his arrest. After confirming that the driver was the registered owner, the driver was taken into custody for operating a motor vehicle after suspension/revocation.
On January 7, a woman who had been away on vacation reported that several items were missing from her home on Egmont St. upon her arrival. She reported tools, costume jewelry, and watches as being stolen and believed that only her ex-boyfriend had access to her home.
On January 8, an officer responded to a building on Beacon St. for a larceny report. Between January 2 and January 6, power tools with a value totaling over $900 had been stolen from within the building.
On January 8, a woman reported that a package had possibly been stolen from her building on Beacon Street. While on vacation, she had asked the concierge to accept any packages and place them inside her unit as she was expecting an iPhone 5S. When she arrived home, there were four packages waiting none of which were an iPhone. The UPS site said the package had been delivered and the concierge reported placing five packages inside of her unit.

Armed Robbery Jan.3rd
On Friday January 3rd at 5PM officers were dispatch to the Santander Bank at 487 Harvard Street. Report of an armed robbery. A suspect described as a black male, wearing dark clothes, black hat and a mask, walked into the bank displayed a gun and robbed the bank. The suspect demanded money and then fled on foot, fortunately no one was hurt. A search of the area was conducted and no additional information is available at this time. No pictures available at this time, if we get more we will release it.

Police Reports December 27th - 30th
On December 30th officers responded for Beaconsfield Road for a report of a stolen motor vehicle. The victims stated to police that their vehicle had been parked in their driveway overnight and last seen around 1:30 am on 12/30. While checking a second car in the same driveway, it was also found that there was entry made into their second vehicle and GPS unit and other items had been taken.
On December 29th officers conducted a traffic stop on Commonwealth Ave at Amory Street for speeding. As a result of the traffic stop, the operator was placed under arrest for operation after suspension.
On December 29th at approximately 4:00 pm Officers responded to Brookline Wine and Food on Harvard Street for a reported robbery. The suspect entered the store and stood next to the register at the front of the store. And employee noticed on the surveillance footage that the suspect was reaching over the counter and placing his hand in the cash register. The employee confronted the suspect who then dropped the money and fled from the store.
On December 29th officers conducted a traffic stop on Beacon Street. As a result of the traffic stop, the operator was placed under arrest for operation without a license, operating after license suspension, failure to dim headlights and failing to wear a seat belt.

On December 28 officers conducted a traffic stop for revoked insurance on Boylston Street at Dunster Street. As a result of the traffic stop, the operator was placed under arrest for operation after revoked insurance as well as not duly licensed.
On December 28 a victim came into the police station and reported a larceny from a vehicle on Clyde Street. Victim reported that she parked her vehicle on Clyde Street while attending a party and left her handbag inside the vehicle. When she returned to the vehicle the bag was gone.
On December 28th, police responded to Saint Paul Street for a reported larceny. The victim stated to police that they had two packages delivered by UPS on December 27, when the victim went to retrieve the package it had been removed from their entry way.
On December 28th, police responded to Beacons Street for a report of a larceny. The victim reported that while at her place of business on 12/27 someone had stolen her cell phone and case. The case had contained identification, credit cards and cash.
On December 27th officers responded to 55 Pond Ave for a report of a larceny. The victim reported to police that a lap top computer had been stolen from one of the medical offices in the building.
On December 27th while on patrol, officers stopped a vehicle for making an illegal turn off of Harvard St onto Green Street. The operator was placed under arrest for operation after suspension as well as possession of heroin, misc. drug charges, and receiving stolen property.
On December 27th police responded to Browne Street for a fraud report. Victims told the officers that they were planning on taking a trip to New York and were looking at rental properties in the city. They used a website, Homeaway.com, to do the planning and had sent money for the rental. When the victims tried to reach the ‘renter’ to obtain the keys for the stay, they had no contact. Working through the website it was found that the account had been hacked and the property was rented out fraudulently.
Scam Alert : On December 27th a victim came to the police station to report a case of fraud. She received a call from a company called ESupport-Live stating that they could fix her computer. The victim was having issues with the computer at the time and had her credit card charged for the repair. She then later got a call from the Federal Trade Commission and her bank informing her of fraudulent use of her Credit card
On December 27th, officers responded to a residence on Park Street to take a report for stolen packages. The victim reported to police that he had two packages delivered by USPS to his residence. USPS delivered the packages on 12/23 around 7:30 pm and when the victim went to retrieve them (12/24 8:00 am) they had been removed from the front steps.

Police Reports December 26
On December 26, 2013 Brookline Police responded to the
intersection of Kent St and Aspinwall Ave for a two car motor vehicle traffic
crash. Vehicle 1 was driving on Kent St
towards Beacon St when Vehicle 2 took a quick left turn in front of Vehicle
1. Vehicle #1 was unable to move out of
the way in time and collided into the rear right side of Vehicle #2. Vehicle #1
suffered major front end damage, Vehicle #2 had damage to its rear right tail
light. All parties stated that they did
not need any medical attention.
On December 26, 2013, a single car MV crash was reported to
Brookline Police. The vehicle, in the area of
965 Hammond St. spun out 180 degrees on a thin layer of slush and Ice,
and struck a light pole owned by the Town of Brookline. Front and side airbags were deployed. No injuries reported.
On December 26, 2013 Brookline Police responded to Carlton
St for a single vehicle traffic crash. The driver reports that while driving on
Calton St towards Beacon St the vehicle began to lose control and skid, subsequently colliding head on into a light
pole directly in front of 3 Carlton St. The front end of the vehicle suffered
major damage. It was snowing at the time and the roadways were extremely slushy
and wet. The pole suffered minor damage.
On 12-26-2013, Brookline Police responded to Newton St. for
a vehicle fire. Upon arrival, officers observed a 2006 Honda Accord fully engulfed in
flames. The vehicle was unoccupied and appeared to be parked. It was obvious to
the responding officers that the fire started in the rear of the vehicle. Brookline
Fire arrived and was able to contain the fire. The vehicles owner was alerted by another
motorist that his vehicle was on fire. The driver quickly pulled over, exited
the vehicle, and proceeded to contact 911.
On Thursday, 12/26/13 at approximately 1035hrs a Brookline
Police Officer, on patrol walking through the parking lot of the gas station on
Harvard St. detected a strong odor of
what he believed to be burnt marijuana. The Officer tracked the odor to a black
Honda Civic that was occupied by a male operator. The Officer observed the
operator raise what appeared to be a cigarette to his mouth and light it with a
lighter. The operator kept the lighter to the cigarette for an extended period
of time while inhaling. Based on the Officers training and experience he believed
the operator to be smoking Marijuana.
The Officer approached the vehicle and notified Brookline
Dispatch of his location. Other Officers arrived to assist. Upon further investigation the subject was
identified and issued a Town-By Law citation MGL c. 94c s. 32L for Possession of Less Than
1 Ounce of Marijuana.

Scam Alert

The Brookline Police Department would like to warn Brookline residents about several recent telephone scam which appear to be targeting Brookline residents.
•
• The first Scam is the IRS Green Dot Money Pack Scam. Green Dot Money Pak Cards themselves are legitimate products when used for the intended purpose, The intended use allows consumers to reload MoneyPaks to other pre paid cards, add money to a Pay Pal account without using a bank account, or to make same day payments to major companies. Because the cards can be bought with cash, consumers never need to disclose their personal or financial information to a retail cashier or to make a payment.
•
• The traditional wire transfer scam involves crooks asking for funds to be directly wires to them, but the Money-Pak scam has the added benefit of the crooks not having to show up at an office to claim the money. Anyone with the 14 digit number found on the back of the Green Dot Money Pak Card can drain the card of funds.
•
• The scam works in many ways including phone calls to residents implying that the resident is behind on a bill or owes money for back taxes. The person calling identifies themselves as being from the IRS or a Utility Company. The person posing as an IRS Agents demands money for back taxes and threatens to have the person arrested or deported. The scammers then agree to accept payment for the back taxes by directing the victim to a nearby store that sells Green Dot Money-Pak Cards. The victim is told to purchase a Green Dot Money Pak card in the amount of the back taxes. Once the card is purchased they tell the victim to give them the 14 digit code on the back of the Green Dot Money Pak Card. Once the scammers have the 14 digit code they can obtain all of the money that has been put onto the Green Dot Money Pak card.

• The second Scam that we have recently been seeing involving Brookline residents is the Traffic Accident Scam. In this case a victim receives a call from someone claiming that one of their relatives has been involved in a serious traffic accident causing considerable damage. The caller claims that the damage exceeds $6,000.00. The caller claims that they are holding the relative and demand payment for the traffic accident damage. They request that the victim go to a nearby Western Office and wire money to a location to cover the cost of the accident. The victim is then told to simply give the caller the number on the Western Union Money Gram. When the scammer has the number for the Western Union Money Gram he can usually go to any Western Union Office and get the funds.

• We believe that most of these scams are originating outside of the United States.
•
The scammers appear at this time to be targeting immigrants or elderly people who are usually to frightened to call the police until it is to late.

Police Report: Arrest for Texting while Driving.
About 12:00 PM, on Saturday, December 14, 2013, I, Officer ------ in the unmarked 1B20 unit observed the operator of a gray Volvo Sedan texting while driving, in the adjacent lane on Commonwealth Ave. The vehicle turned right into an alleyway next to St. Paul St. Then turned left onto Dummer St. The operator continued to use his mobile device the entire time. I activated my low profile emergency lights and safely initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of St. Paul St. and Dummer St. All streets listed are public ways in the Town of Brookline.
I approached the vehicle with my badge displayed and identified myself as a police officer. I advised the operator as to the reason for the stop. The operator was identified as ------ . A query of with the registry of motor vehicles, using my cruiser laptop, revealed that had a revoked drivers license. This information was confirmed to be accurate by Brookline Dispatch.
------- was placed under arrest and transported to the station by Officer ------ in the marked 544 unit, followed by Officer in the marked 543 unit. was booked by SGT with the assistance of booking Officers.
------- was charged with the following Offenses:

l was issued Massachusetts Uniform Citation for the above listed offenses.

Officers were informed that a cyclist had smashed the rear window of a motor vehicle before fleeing the scene. Officers were met by the victim who stated she had safely driven around a cyclist, who then caught up with her vehicle while she was stopped at a red light. The cyclists became agitated and began yelling at her. The cyclists then used his bicycle lock to smash the rear window of the vehicle. A search of the area revealed a suspect matching the witness’s description. He was placed under arrest for malicious damage to a motor vehicle.

Larceny: 12/14/2013 at 6:50 p.m. – Harvard St.
Several officers were dispatched to a business on Harvard St. after receiving a report of larceny. Upon arrival the officer were met by a store employee who had the suspect detained in his office. A review of video surveillance revealed the suspect placing items into his backpack. When the employee confronted the suspect, he attempted to flee. A search of the suspect’s backpack also revealed a small plastic bag containing a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana. The suspect was placed under arrest for Larceny and issued a citation for Possession of Marijuana.

An officer was dispatched to a business on Beacon St. after receiving a report of a shoplifter who was still in the store. Upon arrival, the officer was met by the Asst. Manager who stated he observed the suspect place an MP3 player in the pocket of his coat. The suspect was placed under arrest for Larceny.

An officer was on patrol and noticed two people acting suspiciously. The officer approached the individuals and asked for their identification. A query of one of the suspect’s information revealed she had an arrest warrant. She was placed under arrest without incident. A search of her person revealed a small bag containing what officers believed to be heroin. She was further charged with Possession of Heroin.

Suspicious Activity: 12/14/2013 at 9:03 a.m. – Addington Rd.
An officer was dispatched to a residence on Addington Rd. to take a report of a suspicious phone call. Upon arrival the officer met with the victim who stated he had received a phone call from an unidentified male. The man told the victim he was holding his brother hostage until $1000 was wired to him. The victim then became suspicious of the call and hung up. Similar scams have been perpetuated in Brookline before. If you receive a similar phone call, please report it to the Brookline Police Department.

An officer was on patrol and noticed two people acting suspiciously. The officer approached the individuals and asked for their identification. A query of one of the suspect’s information revealed she had an arrest warrant. She was placed under arrest without incident. A search of her person revealed a small bag containing what officers believed to be heroin. She was further charged with Possession of Heroin.

Suspicious Activity: 12/14/2013 at 9:03 a.m. – Addington Rd.
An officer was dispatched to a residence on Addington Rd. to take a report of a suspicious phone call. Upon arrival the officer met with the victim who stated he had received a phone call from an unidentified male. The man told the victim he was holding his brother hostage until $1000 was wired to him. The victim then became suspicious of the call and hung up. Similar scams have been perpetuated in Brookline before. If you receive a similar phone call, please report it to the Brookline Police Department.

Brookline Detectives Make Another Prostitution Arrest
For the past year, Brookline detectives have been working to identify suspects of drug dealing and prostitution using the internet site, ‘Craigslist.’ Disguised as buyers or sellers, detectives communicated with potential suspects. In the past week, five arrests have been made for those trading sex for drugs. Various drugs were discovered on suspects including heroin, cocaine, and marijuana.

Police have made an arrest of a subject for Aggravated Statutory Rape. MGL chp. 265 sec 23A The subject is a 29 year old male from Brookline. The victim is a juvenile
and no additional information will be released. The subject is scheduled to be
arraigned today in Brookline District Court. This was a recent arrest and the investigation is on going.

Two Arrests Made in Narcotic Case
Two arrests were made this weekend for soliciting sex for narcotics. Detectives were able to make the arrests using Craigslist to contact potential suspects. The first arrest was made on December 6, 2013 for Possession of Cocaine. The second arrest was made December 7, 2013 for Possession of Class B and D Drug with Intent to Distribute

Burglary: 12/07/2013 at 1:45 a.m. – Euston St.
An officer was dispatched to a residence on Euston St. for a Breaking and Entering. Upon arrival the officer was met by the victim who stated she arrived home to discover her window open and several items missing from her apartment. Nothing else in the apartment appeared to be disturbed.
Burglary: 12/07/2013 at 6:41 a.m. – Mason St.
An officer was dispatched to a residence on Mason St. for a report of an Unwanted Person. Upon arrival the officer was met by the caller who stated she was awoken by someone ringing her doorbell at least 15 times. She did not answer the door, but was able to observe a man walk around the left side of the house to the rear of the building. She then saw the man attempt to gain entry to the house through a rear door. She yelled to the man that she would call the police if he didn’t leave. At this time the suspect fled and the victim contacted the Brookline Police. A search of the area yielded no results.

Officers were able to apprehend the suspect who then paid for the stolen merchandise.

Officers were able to apprehend the suspect. The suspect stated that he believed his friend had stolen his cell phone, however the cell phone was found in the possession of the suspect. The other male stated the suspect became agitated when he could not find the cell phone and assaulted him while he was driving. The suspect was placed under arrest.

Arrest made today near the Baker School
On 12/6/13, An officer observed a Black Mitsubishi with Mass plates make a illegal left turn into the circle in front of the Baker School, 205 Beverly Rd.
This m/v was stopped and the operator was asked for his license and registration. A check with the Registry of Motor Vehicle revealed that his right to Operate a Motor Vehicle was Suspended.
A check with Registry of Motor Vehicle revealed that the motor vehicle with Mass plates was status revoked. This m/v belong to a the passenger in the m/v, her license was also revoked at this time..
At this time the subject was placed under arrest for Operating after Suspension, he was transported to the station by the 555 car he was booked and advised of his right's. He was issued a citation, for Operating after Suspension, Revoke Registration and No Left Turn.
The M/V was towed the owner of the m/v was issued a citation for Allowing a Unlicensed Person to Operate a M/V and having a Revoke Registration.
During booking it was revealed that the subject was also a Level Three Sexual Offender out of Boston. Our investigation is still on going. Late information was obtained during the follow up investigation that he was not dropping off children at the school. He is not a parent of a child that attends there. He was there to drive the adult passenger. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Brookline District Court on Monday. The subject is a resident of Boston.

As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver repeatedly berated the officer and other drivers. Several other officers arrived on scene to assist. At this time, the driver was placed under arrest for Disorderly Conduct.

An officer was dispatched to a business on Commonwealth Ave. to take a report of Larceny. Upon arrival, the officer was met by the store manager who had retrieved a duffel bag full of products from an attempted larceny. The manager stated he heard the store alarm go off and observed a man running from the front of the store. The manager pursued the man who threw the duffel bag down and continued to flee the scene. Brookline officers were able to stop and identify the suspect. The matter is currently under investigation.

An officer was dispatched to a residence on Walnut St. to take a report of Burglary. Upon arrival, the officer was met by the victim who stated when she returned home she noticed two laptops were missing as well as a camera. There were no signs of forced entry. It is believed the suspect entered the home through the unlocked rear door.

An officer was dispatched to a business on Commonwealth Ave. to take a report of Larceny. Upon arrival, the officer was met by the store manager who had retrieved a duffel bag full of products from an attempted larceny. The manager stated he heard the store alarm go off and observed a man running from the front of the store. The manager pursued the man who threw the duffel bag down and continued to flee the scene. Brookline officers were able to stop and identify the suspect. The matter is currently under investigation.

Burglary: 12/03/2013 at 7:15 p.m. – Walnut St.
An officer was dispatched to a residence on Walnut St. to take a report of Burglary. Upon arrival, the officer was met by the victim who stated when she returned home she noticed two laptops were missing as well as a camera. There were no signs of forced entry. It is believed the suspect entered the home through the unlocked rear door.

An officer was dispatched to a residence on Walnut St. to take a report of Larceny. Upon arrival, the officer was met by the victim who stated a large sum of money was stolen from his bedroom. The apartment is shared with four other occupants, although the victim stated he did not suspect any of them of taking the money.

ARREST OF TOWN EMPLOYEE
On December 2, 2013, Brookline Police investigators arrested a Town of Brookline employee and charged him with Larceny by Embezzlement. The suspect is scheduled to be arraigned in the Brookline District Court on Wednesday, December 4. Prior to the suspect’s arrest, he held the position of Administrative Assistant in the Engineering Division of the Town’s Department of Public Works. Effective December 3, the suspect was placed on administrative leave from his employment with the Town pending a disciplinary hearing.
The arrest followed an investigation into allegations of the suspect’s involvement in the misappropriation of money received by the Town’s Department of Public Works. The Town considers the misappropriation of public funds to be an extraordinarily serious offense, and requires strict employee compliance with the state Conflict of Interest law and the Town’s Policy against Fraudulent Conduct, Misappropriation, and Corruption.
Because the Town’s administrative process and the police investigation remain ongoing, the Town is unable to provide any further comments at this time.

The officer initiated a traffic stop on Boylston St. The officer was able to detect the odor of alcohol while speaking with the suspect and her eyes appeared bloodshot and glassy. The driver was placed under arrest for Operating Under the Influence of Liquor.

When the employee approached the man, he fled the store. The suspect was described as male in his late 20s, slim build and wearing a black sweater with tan pants.

The employee showed the officer video surveillance of the suspect placing several items into a black duffel bag. The suspect was apprehended and placed under arrest for Shoplifting.

An officer was dispatched to a business on Beacon St. after receiving a report of larceny. Upon arrival, the officer was met by an employee who stated a woman had attempted to leave the store with a shopping cart full of flowers without first paying for the items. The woman was confronted by several employees and fled the store. All items were recovered.

Several officers were dispatched to Fuller St. after receiving numerous reports of malicious damage to motor vehicles. Upon arrival, the officers were met by the victims who returned to their cars to find their cars’ rear windows smashed. In addition to the smashed windows, several cars also had small dents. The dents and broken windows appear to have been caused by a BB gun. No items were stolen from the cars.

An attempt to track the phone using GPS proved unsuccessful because the phone had been shut off.

An officer observed a vehicle fail to yield to oncoming traffic when making a left turn. The officer initiated a traffic stop on Kent St. A query of the driver’s information revealed she had a suspended license and was placed under arrest. A routine search of her vehicle revealed a plastic bag containing a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana. She was issue a Town By-Law Ticket for Possession of Less Than 1 Ounce of Marijuana.

While working at the front desk, an officer received a report of larceny. According to the victim, she received a phone call from an unknown party around 2:30 p.m. The caller stated that her father had been in a motor vehicle accident and was now being held for ransom. The victim was instructed to drive to her bank and forward $800.00 to the caller. Once the victim made the transfer, the caller advised her to call her father and hung up. The victim immediately made contact with her father, who was in good health, had been home all day, and had not been threatened in anyway. Due to similar incidents in the Brookline area, officers believe the incident was a scam and advise Brookline residents to contact the police immediately if they receive a similar phone call.

Inside the box, the officer discovered a plastic bag containing a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana. The suspect was issued a town by-law citation for Possession of Less than 1 ounce of Marijuana.

Several officers observed a parked car with the driver still inside. The driver remained in the parked vehicle for an extended period of time. Furthermore, the officers observed an unknown male approach the vehicle and engage in a short exchange with the driver. Based on the totality of the circumstances, the officers were led to believe the driver of the parked vehicle was engaging in the sale of narcotics. The officers approached the vehicle and asked the driver if they could search the vehicle. During the search, the officers found a prescription bottle containing three different types of pills for which the driver did not have a prescription for. The driver was placed under arrest for Possession of a Class C Drug.

According to an online tracking service, the package had been delivered. The package would have been visible from the street, leading the victim to believe it had been stolen.
Malicious Damage: 11/10/2013 at 1:05 a.m. – Babcock St./ Harvard St.
An officer observed two males ripping papers from a bulletin board and as well as the tiles from the roof of the bulletin board. The officer instructed the individuals to stop what they were doing. As the officer began to approach the two males, the suspects fled on foot. The officer called for additional units, who were eventually able to locate the suspects, who were once again told to halt. The suspects fled once again but were eventually apprehended and placed under arrest.

A review of video surveillance showed the suspect to be a Caucasian female, approximately 25 years old with long, black hair.

Upon arrival, the officer was met by the victim who stated approximately three months prior he had been contacted by a company called “Mega Millions.” The company informed him that he was the winner of a monetary prize if he would wire two payments of $7,500 to a separate bank account. The victim has been unable to get in contact with the company since wiring the money.

The officer detained the suspect who was placed under arrest for larceny.

Officer injured on duty,
Today at approx. 2:44PM, Animal Control officer Pierre Verrier
was dispatched to 12 Short Street for reports of an aggressive turkey. As the
officer was existing the vehicle the vehicle started to roll backwards down Short
Street towards Beacon. The vehicle knocked the officer to the ground; he was
able to radio for help. Officers responded, saw the officer down on the street and
the vehicle resting against the side of the building on the corner of Short
Street and Beacon Street, a short distance away. Several parked cars
had been struck before the vehicle came to rest. The officer was taken to Beth Israel
Hospital, where he is undergoing a series of test. Preliminary reports are no
serious injuries. Brookline Police accident reconstruction team is handling the
investigation.
Officer Verrier is a
25 year veteran of the force.
Update on Death on Comm Ave
Boston University, State Police and Brookline Officers responded to a call at 808 Commonwealth Ave early this morning. A body of a 39 year old male, a contractor for Otis Elevators, was discovered on the scene. There were no signs of foul play. The body of the deceased is currently with the medical examiner.

A suspect in multiple Breaking and Enterings was
arrested by the Boston Police Department earlier this week. He has been linked
to two Breaking and Entering incidents in Brookline, which occurred at a nail
salon on Boylston St. and a gas station on Washington St., both occurring on October
20th. The suspect was identified using video surveillance footage. The Brookline
Police Department will be seeking warrants charging the suspect with the two
B&E’s in Brookline.

The second suspect will receive a summons to Brookline District Court for Shoplifting.

B&E of a Motor Vehicle: 11/03/2013 at 7:37 p.m. – South St.
An officer was dispatched to South St. after receiving a report of a Breaking and Entering of a Motor Vehicle. Upon arrival, the officer was met by the victim who stated she left her unlocked vehicle in the driveway of her home. When she returned to her vehicle, she saw the contents of her glove box and center console were strewn around the car. The victim’s GPS and money from her wallet were reported missing.
Larceny: 10/31/2013 at 4:00 p.m. – Washington St.
An officer was dispatched to Washington St. after receiving a report of larceny. Upon arrival, the officer was met by the victim who stated his cell phone had been stolen. The victim stated he mistakenly left his cell phone on the table of a restaurant he was eating at. Once he realized his mistake, the victim returned to the restaurant but discovered it had been taken.
Malicious Damage to a Motor Vehicle: 11/01/2013 at 8:00 a.m. – Beacon St.
An officer was dispatched to Beacon St. after receiving a report of malicious damage to a motor vehicle. The officer was met by the victim who stated when he returned to his parked vehicle he saw that someone had keyed the trunk.
Malicious Damage to a Motor Vehicle: 11/03/2013 at 1:13 a.m. – Park St.
An officer was dispatched to Park St. after receiving a report of malicious damage to a motor vehicle. Upon arrival, the officer was met by the victim who stated she heard a loud noise like shattering glass and went outside to inspect her vehicle. She discovered her windshield had been smashed.
Larceny: 10/21/2013 at 12:36 p.m. – School St.
An officer received a report of a past larceny while working at the front desk. According to the victim, someone had stolen his daughter’s violin. The victims were hoping the missing violin would be turned in, but it still remains missing.

Not Duly Licensed: 11/01/2013 at 2:09 p.m. – Boylston St./ Catlin Rd.
An officer observed a vehicle driving erratically. The officer initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Boylston St. and Catlin Rd. A query of the driver’s information revealed he was not properly licensed. The operator was placed under arrest.
