Larceny:

Occurred between 8/26-8/29 – Monmouth St.

A generator, a Multi-Quip MQ45, was reported missing from a construction site. The only way it could been taken was to have been towed away. The phrase “CAT 26” was on the side of it.

Burglary:

Occurred Overnight, 8/28-8/29 – Harvard St./Babcock St.

Officers who had responded to the area for a commercial break were canvassing the area speaking to restaurant owners about any suspicious activity. A business owner reviewed his surveillance footage and noticed a suspicious person on his premises at 3:46 AM. The suspect had attempted to open the rear door as well as the door to neighboring businesses and was unsuccessful. He then flees in the direction of Greenway Ct.

The suspect is described as a black male of light complexion, 6'0-6'2, 25-35y.o., medium build, and wearing a blue New-Era brand hat, black T-shirt, light-blue jeans, and grey sneakers with white soles and laces. The suspect also appears to have neck and arm tattoos.

An officer on patrol in the area noticed the glass door to the front of a business had been shattered. Money had been taken from the register. Detectives are investigating to determine whether the recent commercial breaks in the area are related.

Occurred Overnight, 8/28-8/29 – Cypress St.

An officer on patrol in the area noticed the glass door to the front of a business had been smashed by a brick. Nothing was noted missing, but there were similar breaks in Brighton around the same time with the same MO. The incidents may or may not be related at his time.

MV Accident:

Occurred at 6:30 PM on 8/27 – Kent St./Aspinwall Ave.

A vehicle traveling east on Aspinwall Ave. collided with a vehicle traveling south on Kent St. Due to conflicting accounts from the witnesses it is unclear who had the right of way and who was at fault. Significant damage occurred to both vehicles as well as to a tree, a street sign, and private property of the owner of the home in front of which the accident occurred. The driver of one vehicle was transported to the hospital.

Occurred at 4:56 PM on 8/27 – Horace James Rotary

A driver entering the Horace James Rotary was struck from behind by another vehicle. A passenger in the first vehicle was transported to the hospital, and the driver of the second was issued a citation for following too closely.

Occurred at 3:49 PM on 8/26 – Lee St.

An 18-wheeler traveling in the left lane on Lee St. swerved and struck a motor vehicle traveling in the right. The vehicle suffered serious damage and was towed, and the 18-wheeler suffered minor front bumper damage. There were no reported injuries.

OUI:

Occurred at 3:40 AM on 8/27 – Boylston St./Heath St.

An officer on patrol observed a motor vehicle pass his stationary position going very quickly. By matching the speed he was able to determine it was traveling 60 mph in a posted 35 mph zone. The operator was also observed failing to stay within marked lanes. A motor vehicle stop was initiated. After conducting further investigation, the operator was determined to be Operating Under the Influence.

Tropical Storm Update

From NSTAR, the following areas are without power:

286 customers at Welland Road. Status: partially completed

326 partial - Newton St (NSTAR lists this area as Chestnut Hill, some homes may be in Newton). Status: partially completed.

All police cruisers have cleared downed wires.

A full compliment of tree crews (12) are still working, and 122 trees or significant portion of trees have fallen. There are thousands of limbs and branches throughout the town.

Storm Impact update, 5:00PM

Brookline Emergency Management Team has released the latest data from the effects of Irene. As of 5:00PM Police responded to over 140 calls for service since 0800 hrs. 106 trees or limbs have fallen in town and we currently have 12 cruisers standing by downed wires. DPW crews with tree crews are busy cleaning up.
Power is out in the Newton St, Cypress St and "Pill Hill" areas of town.
NSTAR has a list of 13 locations in Town that have been determined as priority sites. NSTAR has responded to the top five locations. They are doing the best they can, but they have approximately 175,000 customers without service system wide.

MV Accident:

Occurred at 4:35 PM on 8/24 – Princeton St./LaGrange St.

A vehicle was traveling south on LaGrange and passed Princeton. As this vehicle passed Princeton, another vehicle came out of Princeton and clipped the first vehicle. The second driver received a citation for failure to yield at a stop sign.

8/22-8/23

OUI:

Occurred at 8:16 PM on 8/22 – Harvard St./Fuller St.

Officers responded to the area for a vehicle that had lost a tire and was stopped in the roadway. Officers approached the vehicle and found the keys in the ignition and the motor running but the driver was not in sight. The caller reported driving behind the vehicle which had lost the tire and observed it happening. After receiving a description of the driver, officers began searching the neighborhood. She was found sitting on the sidewalk on Thorndike St. After further investigation it was determined that she had been Operating Under the Influence and was arrested.

Burglary:

Occurred Overnight, 12:15 AM – Washington St./River Rd.

Officers were dispatched to a business in the area for a business alarm that had gone off. Upon arrival it was noticed that a front window had been pushed inwards and there were shoeprints. The front door was unlocked, and there was a plastic folding chair with a shoeprint on it, as well as an overturned bucket which appeared to have been used as a step. The cash register was missing as well.

Officers viewed the surveillance tapes and discovered the suspect to be a light skinned male of unknown height or age, with what appeared to be a dark colored shirt wrapped around his face and head with a hat underneath while wearing a light colored t-shirt, light colored shorts, light colored socks and a dark colored pair of sandals. It was further determined via further review of the surveillance footage that the suspect used a light in color motor vehicle, possibly a newer model Honda Accord. This incident is currently under investigation by the Detective Division.

8/19-8/22

Burglary:

Occurred Overnight, 8/21-8/22 - Harvard St./Babcock St.

Officers responded to the area for a reported burglary. The manager reported the co-manager arrived at 5:30 AM on 8/22 and observed the basement door pried open and several items were out of place. In the office, the alarm wires had been cut, and a filing cabinet drawer was open. The locking mechanism on a handicapped door also appeared to have been tampered with.

Malicious Damage:

Occurred at 11:37 AM on 8/21 - Cypress St./Tappan St.

A victim came to the police station to report a biker had purposely smashed her side view mirror with his hand. An officer on patrol later in the day spotted a biker matching the description, and conducted a field interview. The biker reported that he was not in the area at the time of the incident, and that he was on his way to lunch with his father. Another officer who also conducting the interview noticed fresh cuts on the biker's arm. The victim positively identified him as the biker involved in the incident. He will be summonsed to court for Malicious Destruction of Property.

MV Accident:

Occurred at 11:09 AM on 8/21 - Harvard St./Beacon St.

A vehicle was waiting in the right lane in order to make the turn from Beacon onto Harvard. Another vehicle came up Beacon in the straight travel lane, passed the first vehicle on the left, and attempted to turn onto Harvard as well. The second vehicle struck the first. There were no reported injuries.

Arrest:

Occurred at 9:57 PM on 8/18 – St. Mary’s St./Park Dr.

Officers on patrol in the area due to the rise in construction site thefts observed a dark colored pickup truck near a construction site. A male was seen inside the sectioned off area where the workers keep their equipment. He was then observed throwing a large object into his truck and driving away down an alley.

He was observed not using his turn signal appropriately, so officers were able to pull him over. Scrap metal and construction tools and equipment were observed in plain view in the rear of the extended cab of the truck. Leo Henry and Paul Miller will be charged with the following crimes:

Assault:

Occurred on 8/18 – Centre Street Parking Lot

A meter maid reported being assaulted as she tried to write a ticket out for a driver. The driver pushed the maid on the shoulder. Dan Shatil of Brookline will be summonsed into District Court for Assault and Battery on a Public Employee.

Breaking and Entering and Larceny of Motor Vehicle:

Occurred Overnight, 8/17-8/18 – Upland Rd.

An officer on patrol was approach by a victim who reported her vehicle had been broken into overnight. Keys and loose change were among the items stolen.

Breaking and Entering of Motor Vehicle:

Occurred at 10:55 AM on 8/17– Pond Ave.

Officers were dispatched to the area for a larceny of a delivery truck. The drivers left the truck unattended for a few moments while making deliveries, and returned to discover two packages missing. Surveillance video from the area captured a white male, wearing a black sweatshirt, camouflage shorts, white sneakers, white baseball cap and sunglasses, approach the delivery truck. He was seen trying the rear tailgate, discovering it locked, then entering the truck through the passenger side door, and finally exiting the truck with the two packages. He was determined to be driving a white vehicle. This case is currently under investigation.

Burglary:

Occurred between 8/15 and 8/17 – Browne St.

A resident of the apartment building returned home to discover his neighbor’s door left open. Upon further inspection he noticed pry marks and realized the apartment had been burglarized. He notified the police, who are investigating.

8/12-8/17

Assault:

Occurred at 12:03 AM on 8/14 – High St.

Several callers reported a disturbance at a party in their apartment complex. When officers arrived, they observed a male flailing his arms in an aggressive manner hitting the people around him. It appeared as though he was trying to get back into the apartment. He was subdued and immobilized on the floor for his and officers’ safety.

Through interview of witnesses, it was learned that the male was the DJ at the party. A cell phone had gone missing, and he was suspected of stealing it. He was confronted and became violent, swinging his fists in an attempt to hit people. The party goers were able to get him out of the apartment, but he was attempting to get back in right when the police arrived. He was arrested for Simple Assault and Battery and being a Disorderly Person.

Burglary:

Occurred at 2:30 AM on 8/17 – Thorndike St./Lawton St.

Officers responded to a business in the area for general burglar alarm. There was a hole discovered in the glass in the front door, which was believed to have used to enter and exit the building. The cash register drawers were missing.


Occurred on 8/14 – Boylston St./Reservoir Rd.

Officers responded to the area for a reported burglary of a business. The storeowner was contacted by a friend who was walking past the store at night and noticed the front door to be ajar. The owner then came to the store and observed it was kicked in, so she called the police. Change from the register was reported missing.

Breaking and Entering:

Occurred at 3:30 AM on 8/17 – Beacon St./Kent St.

An officer on patrol observed suspicious activity from 3 individuals walking in the area. He began to follow them, and when several other officers arrived, they approached the individuals, who were walking rigidly and appeared very nervous. One was observed to have a bulging pocket with wires sticking out of the pocket. After a pat frisk for weapons due to this individuals suspicious behavior, a knife as well as a GPS with it’s cables still attached were discovered. The other two were then pat frisked as well, and another knife as well as a flashlight were discovered.

By using the home feature, the owner of the GPS was contacted. The 3 individuals were arrested for B&E&L of a MV, Poss. of Stolen Property: over $250.00, and Possession of Burglarious Tools.


Occurred Overnight, 8/14-815 – Davis Ave.

A car was parked overnight and the owner returned the next morning to discover the front and rear driver side windows were smashed. Nothing was reported taken.


Occurred between 8/13 and 8/14 – Bonard Rd.

A victim reported his vehicle had been broken into. He had parked it the night before, and returned to it the next night and discovered a screwdriver in the ignition, and his GPS, 4 CD’s, and loose change missing.


Occured Overnight, 8/12- 8/13 – Elba St.

Officers responded to the area for a report of a breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. The victim reported her car alarm went off at 1 AM, and she went to shut it off, and forgot to lock the garage door. The next day, her husband noticed the vehicle had been rifled through and loose change was missing. It is unclear if the alarm went off due to the breaking and entering, or if the break happened after the alarm had gone off and the victim forgot to lock the garage door.

MV Accident:

Occurred at 7:04 AM on 8/16 – Harvard St./Longwood Ave.

A vehicle traveling west on Longwood Ave. approached the crosswalk on Harvard St. A pedestrian was crossing in it, but the driver reported not seeing him due to being fatigued. The pedestrian was struck, but did not report any injuries and refused medical attention. The driver was issued a citation for Failure to Stop for Pedestrian in Crosswalk.


Occurred at 4:28 PM on 8/15 – Newton St./Grove St.

A motor vehicle turned left from Grove St. onto Newton St. was struck by a driver who had gone through the red light on Newton St. Both drivers were transported to the hospital for minor injuries.



Occurred at 1 AM on 8/15 – Boylston St./Chestnut Hill Ave.

Officers responded to the area for a single MV accident. The driver had fallen asleep at the wheel and the vehicle jumped the median and struck a utility pole at the intersection of Chestnut Hill Ave. The vehicle sustained extensive damage, and the driver was transported to the hospital.

Larceny:

Occurred between 8/1 and 8/16 – St. Mary’s St./Beacon St.

A project manager reported several tools missing from a construction site. The items were worth several thousand. This is the 4th larceny reported by this company in the last 3 months, the most recent being on Monmouth St. between 7/29 and 8/1. There, a project manager for a construction project reported having several expensive materials missing from his site. The master locks had been pried off the locked containers that they were in. There was no visible damage and no suspicious activity reported in the area over those few days.



Occurred on 8/12 – Kenwood Rd.

On 8/11, a person reported his bicycle stolen. The next day, the victim reported seeing his bicycle for sale on Craig’s List. He set up a meeting time and place with the seller, and officers went with him to the meeting spot to apprehend the suspect, who was arrested for Receiving Stolen Property over $250.

MV Accident:

Occurred at 2:50 PM on 8/11 – Washington St./Pond Ave.

Officers responded to the area for a motor vehicle accident with reported injuries. The driver of the vehicle that was struck reported waiting at the red light when she was struck from behind by another vehicle. The other driver corroborated the story.

Breaking and Entering of MV:

Occurred Overnight, 8/10-8/11 – Hallwood Rd.

Officers responded to the area for a report of breaking and entering. The victim reported she had left her vehicle unlocked in the driveway, and returned to find cash and a Notary Public stamp missing.

Breaking and Entering of MV:

Occurred Overnight, 8/10-8/11 – Washington St./South St.

Officers reported to the area for a report of breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. The victim reported leaving her purse in her vehicle, and returning the next morning to find her window smashed and her purse gone, with cash and credit cards.

Burglary:

Occurred between 8/2-8/9 – Boylston St./Cypress St.

The owners of a restaurant in the area were away between the above days, and returned to find it had been broken into. The rear door was forced open and money had been taken from the register. The scene was processed and the investigation is ongoing.

8/9-8/10

Arrest:

Occurred on 8/10 at 7 AM – Washington St./Davis Ave.

An officer in a marked vehicle stopped at a red light observed the vehicle in front of him disregard the light and drive right through. A motor vehicle stop was initiated, and it was discovered that his license he possessed and the vehicle registration were expired. There was also an active arrest warrant for him out of Connecticut.

Larceny:

Occurred between 8/1-8/8 - Linden St.

Officers responded to a reported larceny in the area. A couple had just moved into an apartment, and left it unoccupied for the week while renovations were taking place. They left several belongings in the storage area in the building, and when they returned a personal laptop computer was missing, and possibly several other items. Contractors and others had access to the storage area, as the door was unlocked.

Arrest Made in Pocket Book Thief

Police make arrest of pocket book thief
On August 7, 2011 a pocket book was taken from the St. Mary’s Church located at Harvard Street and Linden Street this Town. A parishioner was attending the 9:30 Mass, when she went to communion she left her pocket book on the bench. When she returned the pocket book was gone. A description was given to police of a lady who was seen near the bench and leaving the church. A short time later the suspect can be seen on Video attempting to use the card at the TJ Maxx located at 525 Harvard Street.

With the release of the pictures to the media it resulted in someone calling in and identifying the suspect. Thanks to the media for your help.
Today a warrant was sought and this afternoon was issued for the arrest of Marie Carnegie, D.O.B. 04/04/1969. 14 Riverdale Street, Allston Mass. The suspect seen in the pictures.

At approximately 5:15 PM Brookline detectives went to the area of 14 Riverdale St. Allston, MA to effect the arrest warrant . The arrest warrant was issued by the Brookline District Court on this date (Docket # 1109CR000749) for the charges of Larceny from a Building & 2 counts of Receiving/Misuse of Credit Card Under $250. After making attempts at the address without any response, the detectives decided to relocate and observe from the area of Western Ave. After a brief period, they observed Ms. CARNEGIE walking on Western Ave. towards Riverdale St. It was here she was taken into custody without incident. Approximately 6:00PM she was booked.

8/8-8/9

Assault:

Occurred at 1:47 PM on 8/8 – Harvard St./Babcock St.

Officers responded to the area for a report of an assault. The two involved parties were a driver of one vehicle and a passenger in the other. The driver of Vehicle 1 was waiting at the light on Babcock St. in order to make a left turn onto Harvard St. When the light turned green, the driver saw that he would not be able to make the turn due to oncoming traffic, so he waited behind the stop line while the light turned red again. The passenger of Vehicle 2 then began honking and yelling obscenities, and left the car to approach Vehicle 1’s window. Vehicle 1’s driver got out of his car, with a bat in hand but held down by his side, and the passenger retreated to her vehicle. When the light turned green again, Vehicle 1 was still unable to complete the turn, and the passenger in Vehicle 2 became agitated again. She again exited the vehicle and approached his, and the driver exited his vehicle again, bat in hand. When the passenger neared his vehicle, he attempted to get back in, when she came up and closed the driver’s side door 2 or 3 times on his leg. Witnesses reported that he then pushed the door back into her. The driver of Vehicle 1 was arrested for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, and the passenger of Vehicle 2 will be summonsed to court for Disorderly Conduct.

Found Property:

A ring was turned in at the front desk of the station. It’s being held in an evidence locker for safekeeping.

Larceny:

Occurred at 1:04 PM on 8/8 – Commonwealth Ave./St. Mary’s St.

Officers were dispatched to the area for a report of shoplifting. The store manager reported following the two individuals around the store, and observed one place Advil into his backpack, as well as rub zinc ointment on a tattoo on his left arm. She then approached them asking them to pay for the items, when they stated they didn’t have any money. She told them the police were on their way, and they left the store.

The store manager described Suspect 1 as a white male, wearing a black shirt and khaki pants with a tattoo on his left arm, and Suspect 2 as a white male, wearing a brown shirt and brown pants, and carrying a black backpack.

08-07-11 Larceny From A Building

Report of a Larceny on Dean Rd
Victim reports that several sections of copper downspouts had been removed and stolen from around entire house. Victim had been away for past two weeks. See below special notice to residents regarding recent metal theft.





7/29/11 Credit Card Fraud
Victim walked into the police station to report credit card fraud. She stated that she shares a bank account with her mother and noticed that there were some unusual charges on their bank statement. She asked her mother about the transactions, and they discovered that mother’s wallet and debit card were missing.
The charges made were on following dates:

Victims do not know how, when or where, the wallet and card became missing. They also don't know who could have taken it. They were advised to notify the credit bureaus of this fraud.



08-06-11 Disorderly Person

Officer observed a white male wearing a striped shirt, and khaki pants and carrying a black backpack, standing in the middle of the street holding up traffic. The vehicle that was traveling next to the Police Car had to brake abruptly to avoid making contact with this subject. This individual appeared to be yelling at somebody on the sidewalk and pedestrians were pointing at him.
As he crossed over to the eastbound side of Beacon St., cars had to stop quickly and turn to avoid hitting him. Several people that were waiting for the train had to move out of the way as the subject ran past them.
When questioning this individual he gave a false name.
A WMS query revealed that suspect has an outstanding default warrant from Cambridge Court for Breaking and Entering Based on the above facts the subject will be charged with Disorderly Conduct (Ch. 272 s. 53) and Providing a False Name (Ch.268 s.34A), as well as the default warrant. A Court Application was completed and filed.

08-05-11 Larceny

On August 5, 2011 at approximately 3:55 PM, An officer was dispatched to Brook Street, for a report of a stolen bicycle. On arrival Officer spoke to the (victim) who explained that her bicycle had been locked up to the fence in front of her house with a cable lock. She last saw it on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at approximately 1:00 PM, and noticed it missing on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at approximately 8:00 PM
There is no further information at this time.

Officers responded to Netherlands Rd to take a malicious damage report. Upon arrival, officer met the victim, whom reported that he parked his vehicle in his assigned spot on 7/30/2011, at approximately 1351 hours. On 8/4/2011, at approximately 1500 hours, when he went to retrieve his vehicle from his assigned spot, he discovered multiple pieces of glass from shattered glass bottles. He stated that all the shattered glass pieces were all over his front windshield and on the ground, near his car. The shattered glass is believed to be from a beer bottle. The victim’s vehicle had small scratches on the front windshield.

On August 5, 2011 at approximately 1005 hrs, officers responded to Oakland Road on a report of a larceny of planters that had occurred sometime between 0830 hrs and 0930 hrs. Upon arrival officers met with the reporting party, caller/victim and his wife who stated that three out of four planters that line the front of their property between the street and the sidewalk had been removed sometime this morning. Victim walked their dog at approximately 0830 hrs and stated that all planters were present at that time. At 0930 hrs, three out of four of the twelve to fourteen inch diameter planters and the contents were no longer in place.
The planter pots were all twelve to fourteen inches, brown in color and contained various large green leafy plants (elephant ears) and the third being dahlia flowers



08-05-11 Malicious Damage

On 8/5/2011 around 02:11 Hrs Officers responded to Beacon Street for a report of malicious damage. Once on scene Officers met with the caller who is a guest of one of the tenants in the building. Caller stated that this evening she observed recent damage to the glass front door of the building, where it appears someone kicked the door causing it to spider, but remain in one piece.
The property management company was contacted and advised that the glass was safety glass and did not pose an immediate danger. They stated that they would dispatch a glass company in the morning.

Suspects ID wanted

Sunday August 7, 2011 a womans pocket book was taken from St. Marys Church 5 Linden Street in Brookline,
Victim was attending the 9:30 Mass at St Mary's Church. Victim left her bench to receive communion, when she returned to her bench approximately five minutes later she noticed that her handbag was missing. Victim stated that there wasn't anyone seated behind her when she went to receive communion. Two people attending Mass stated that they saw a white female in her 40's wearing a short green rain jacket, plaid shorts, tan straw hat carrying a bag near the victims bench. This person did not stay for the conclusion of the Mass and was seen leaving the Church in a unknown direction . Several units were dispatched to the area, but were unable to locate this individual. Victim stated that her purse contained her cell phone, a master card and an American express card . Victim stated that her identification was also in her bag . Victim is visiting from Oklahoma, this is the only form of Identification she has. Detectives following up on the case received information that an attempt to use the victims credit card at T.J Maxx 525 Harvard St. at 11:40 a.m. but access was denied. A video and still pictures are available of this transaction Follow-up investigation is being conducted by the detective division. Recent Copper Thefts

Recently we have been experiencing some copper/metal thefts from commercial construction sites and residential homes. The thefts include large quantities of items which take a significant amount of time and effort to remove. The thefts from residences are mainly copper gutter/downspouts. We ask that citizens report any suspicious activity to Brookline PD.

Trespassing:

Occurred at 9:21 PM on 8/3 – Beacon St./Regent Ctr.

Officers were dispatched to an apartment building for a report of an unwanted person. The individual that was identified appeared to be intoxicated and was aggravated during questioning of her intent in the building. The concierge reported that she followed a resident into the lobby of the building and continued on without checking in with him, and when he asked where she was going she said she was visiting someone. When the concierge buzzed that apartment number, the resident stated that she was not expecting anyone. The individual then returned to the concierge to ask for a key to the pool area, and the concierge told her she needed to be accompanied by a resident. She left the front desk again, and the concierge went to the pool area to look for her and found her in the pool in her street clothes. It was then that he called the police, who made an arrest for Trespassing.

Disorderly Person:

Occurred at 9:03 PM on 8/4 – Beacon St./Park Dr.

Dispatch received a call about a female being robbed in an alley from a payphone in the above area. When officers arrived, they spoke to one witness, who gave them a description of a man he had seen using a payphone nearby. Efforts were then made to locate both the victim and the caller.

One officer stopped to check an alley, and observed an individual matching the description of the man who used the payphone peering into a window. When the officer made his presence known, the man immediately stepped back from the window. The officer attempted to ask him if he had made the phone call about the robbery, but the man became aggressive and walked away from the questioning. Officers caught up with him and asked him where he was coming from and where he was going, but his explanation did not appear to make sense. He was arrested based on the officer observing him peeping, his unclear explanations, and several other circumstances, for Disorderly Conduct: Peeping Tom.

MV Theft:

Occurred between 12 PM and 1:45 PM on 8/1 – Harvard St./Webster St.

A larceny from a motor vehicle parked in the area was reported. The victim reported his laptop and handicap placard stolen. He had reportedly left his vehicle unlocked.

Burglary:

Occurred Overnight, 8/2-8/3 – High St.

Officers reported to the area for a report of a burglary. The business owner stated coming to work in the morning to find a side window broken and unlocked. Money from the cash register was taken, and nothing else appeared to be disturbed.

8/2-8/3

Drug:

Occurred at 1:46 AM on 8/3 – Pond Ave.

An officer on patrol in the area observed two individuals sitting on a park bench. Due to the recent robberies in the neighborhood, and the fact that the park is closed at night, the officer went over to speak with them. After learning their names and radioing dispatch, it was revealed that one had an outstanding arrest warrant from the Framingham District Court. She was arrested and transported to the station, and through inventory of her belongings, a Class E substance was discovered. She will be additionally charged.

Larceny:

Occurred at 10:20 PM on 8/2 – Cypress St./Elm St.

An individual reported a larceny in the above area. The victim had placed her bags on the sidewalk next to her friend’s car, and was standing near it. She observed a white male, approximately 30 years old, with short dark hair, wearing a white tee shirt approach her bags on the sidewalk. At first she thought he was going through a trash can that was nearby, but he then walked away with her laptop and wallet.

MV Accident:

Occurred at 9:55 AM on 8/1 – Brookline Public Library

A vehicle that was parked in front of the upper turn at the library rolled backwards down the embankment and came to stop after colliding with a vehicle parked parallel in the street. The operator claimed she had engaged the parking brake and exited the vehicle when it began rolling backwards. There were no reported injuries, as both vehicles were unoccupied.


Burglary:

Occurred on 8/1 – Cypress St./Rice St.

There was a report of an attempted burglary in the area. The victim had been approached by two unknown individuals in the morning, who asked for someone whom the victim had never heard of before. She then left, and when she returned, the rear entry door to her apartment had been damaged, but entry was not gained. She believes her encounter with the unknown individuals may have something to do with the attempted break.

Larceny:

Occurred between 7/29 and 8/1 – Monmouth St.

A project manager for a construction site reported having several expensive materials missing from his site. The master locks had been pried off the locked containers that they were in. There was no visible damage and no suspicious activity reported in the area over those few days.

7/29-8/1

Possession:

Occurred at 3:44 PM on 7/31 – Washington St./Harvard St.

A caller requested officers remove an unwanted person from their business who they believed was using drugs in their bathroom. When officers arrived and queried his name, it was revealed there was a warrant for his arrest issued by Edgartown District Court. He was arrested, and inventory of his belongings revealed several Class B, C, and D drugs in his possession.

OUI:

Occurred at 1:01 AM on 7/30 – Boylston St./Cypress St.

An officer observed an operator make an illegal U-turn, and then turn the wrong way down a one way street, and initiated a motor vehicle stop. After further investigation, it was revealed that the operator was intoxicated, and was arrested and charged accordingly.


Occurred at 8:55 PM on 7/29 – Harvard St./Verndale St.

Officers responded to a motor vehicle accident in the area. Vehicle #1 was traveling on Harvard St. when Vehicle #2 exited from Verndale St. and struck the rear of Vehicle #1. Vehicle #2 was attempting to make a right turn on red when it struck the other. After further investigation, it was revealed that the operator of Vehicle #2 was intoxicated. He was arrested and charged with an OUI, as well as failure to use care when making a right turn on red.

Burglary:

Occurred Overnight, 7/31-8/1 – Gorham Ave.

An individual reported an attempted burglary overnight. Pry marks were observed on her door frame, however entry was not gained into the apartment.


Reported on 7/30 – Westbourne Terrace

Officers responded to a report of a burglary. The victims had been away from their apartment for a week and returned to a damaged apartment door and electronics and jewelry missing.

This may be related to the breaking and entering which occurred on 7/26 on the same street, where the victims reported several expensive electronics missing.


Occurred 3:30-4:30 PM on 7/30 – Beacon St./Hawes St.

Officers responded to the area for a reported breaking and entering. The lobby door appeared to be damaged, and the door of the apartment had been pried open. Several pieces of expensive jewelry were reported missing.


Occurred Overnight, 7/28-7/29 – Station St.

A café in the area reported a burglary. The bread deliverer had arrived at 5:30 AM and discovered the front door unlocked. The cash register was missing the cash that had been left in it overnight. Pry marks were observed on the door frame.

MV Accident:

Occurred at 5:15 PM on 7/29 – Harvard St./School St.

Two vehicles were traveling in opposite directions on Harvard St. Vehicle #1 went to make a left turn onto School St., and failed to yield to Vehicle #2, striking it head on. The operator of Vehicle #2 was transported to the hospital, and the operator of Vehicle #1 was issued a citation for Failure to Yield to a Motor Vehicle.

MV Theft:

Occurred Overnight, 7/30-7/31 – Babcock St.

An individual reported leaving her vehicle unlocked overnight in a parking garage. When she returned, she noticed several items in disarray and her GPS device missing.


Occurred at 8:53 PM on 7/29 – Boylston St./Washington St.

An officer on patrol noticed a vehicle traveling with a broken brake light. It continued to travel recklessly before being pulled over. In asking for a license and registration, it was revealed that the vehicle was being used without the authority of the owner, and the operator had a revoked license. He and his passengers were arrested and charged accordingly.

Found Property:

Occurred at 11:31 PM on 7/31 – Washington St.

A bicycle was discovered and it’s being held for safekeeping at the station. It’s described as Black Genesis XR26, 21 Speed.


Occurred Overnight, 7/29 – Sterns Rd.

A man reported someone had left 2 bicycles in his driveway sometime overnight. One of the bicycles has been claimed by its owner, and another, a blue Nishiki 1207 with a Kryptonite lock on its frame and front wheel, is being held at the station for safekeeping.

7/28-7/29

Arrest:

Occurred at 1:08 AM on 7/29 – Washington St./Beacon St.

An officer on patrol noticed a vehicle with an expired registration sticker and initiated a traffic stop. A query returned that the registration was up to date, but the registration sticker had not been placed on the vehicle, which is a motor vehicle violation. After asking the driver for license and registration, it was revealed that the driver had a suspended license, but was driving the passenger’s mom’s car because the passenger was intoxicated. The driver was then arrested.

When the passenger was informed that the vehicle would be towed and how she wanted to get home, she became belligerent and was placed into protective custody.

Burglary:

Occurred Overnight, 7/27-7/28 – Harvard St./Coolidge St.

A business owner reported his front door broken and slightly ajar this morning. The deadbolt appeared to have been forced open with a tool. Nothing was reported missing at the time of the report.

Bicycle/MV Accident:

Occurred at 4:13 PM on 7/28 – Horace James Circle

A cyclist was cycling in the rotary in the right lane and attempted to continue straight when a vehicle in the left lane attempted to make the right turn and struck her. There were no reported injuries, but the motorist will receive a citation for failure to give the right of way to a cyclist in a rotary.

Found Property:

Occurred at 2:53 PM – Beacon St./Amory St.

A lost credit card was turned in and is being held for safekeeping at the station.

7/27-7/28

O.U.I.:

Occurred at 10:35 PM on 7/27 – Harvard St./Longwood Ave.

Officers on patrol observed a vehicle driving without its headlights or taillights on. They followed it and noticed it swerving and initiated a traffic stop. After querying the driver’s history, it was revealed that his license had been revoked. He was arrested, and the officers then noticed he was unsteady on his feet and he smelled strongly of alcohol. After further investigation at the station, it was revealed that he was driving while intoxicated, and was charged accordingly.

Larceny:

Occurred on 7/7, Reported on 7/27 – Borland St.

An individual reported his surfboard missing from his front yard. It is described as an 11' Robert August Stand-Up Board, yellow and black in color.


Occurred between 6/7 and 6/10, Reported on 7/27 – Harris St.

An individual came into the police station to file a report of a larceny. He had hired a contractor to do some work on his home when he began to notice several items missing from his home. The suspect was picked up in New Hampshire for traffic offenses and his vehicle was impounded. Several items believed to have been stolen were discovered in the vehicle, and the investigation is now ongoing.

7/26-7/27

Arrest:

Occurred at 1:25 PM on 7/26 – Beacon St./Carlton St.

An officer observed an individual cycling close to parked vehicles and look inside each one as he passed. The officer also noticed a screwdriver protruding from his back pocket. The individual was stopped and questioned about his intentions, and due to observing the screwdriver and the evasive answers he was giving, a pat frisk was conducted, which revealed a large folding knife in his front pocket. A social security card was also discovered, and the name was one known to Boston and Brookline Police for past burglary offenses. As the officer radioed to dispatch, the individual pushed the officer backwards and pedaled away.

The officer pursued him on foot, and he was eventually captured on Kilmarnock St. He was arrested for A&B on a Police Officer, Possession of Burglarious Tools, Disorderly Person, and Resisting Arrest. 3 cars were damaged by his bike handlebars in a parking lot the individual fled through . He is additionally being charged with 3 counts of Willful and Malicious Damage to Personal Property. Several items believed to be stolen were found in a backpack he had dropped in flight.

Larceny:

Occurred between 12:50 and 3 PM on 7/26 – Westbourne Terrace

Officers responded to a reported breaking and entering and larceny. The victims reported several expensive electronics missing from their apartment which was unoccupied during the above hours. Entry may have been made through an unlocked front door.

7/22-7/26

Arrest:

Occurred at 5 PM on 7/22 – Boylston St./Cypress St.

Officers on patrol queried a vehicle traveling on Boylston St., and discovered its registration had expired. The driver was arrested after a query of his name returned an arrest warrant. After inventorying his person, several drugs were discovered. He was charged with Possession of Class B Substance, Possession of Class D Substance, and Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle.

MV Theft:

Occurred at 9:20 AM on 7/26 – Egmont St.

A caller reported her vehicle had been broken into. A pair of earrings and the in-dash stereo were stolen. The vehicle was processed for evidence.

While on the scene an officer observed another vehicle with the passenger-side door ajar and the stereo also missing.

Occurred at 4:16 PM on 7/25 – Chapel St.

A newspaper deliveryman parked his vehicle on Chapel St. for 10 minutes in order to deliver newspapers, and returned to find it missing. He had left the keys in the ignition as his absence was short. It is yet to be recovered.

MV Accident:

Occurred at 1:14 PM on 7/22 – Boylston St./Philbrick St.

Officers responded to a reported 2-car motor vehicle crash. One vehicle cut off another, causing the other to swerve and crash into a parked vehicle. There were no reported injuries.


Occurred at 9:54 AM on 7/22 – Beacon St./Pleasant St.

A pedestrian was struck while crossing in a crosswalk and suffered a leg injury. The driver was cited for Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian in the Crosswalk.

Larceny:

Occurred between 7/24 and 7/26 – Aspinwall Ave./Perry St.

A caller reported a stolen bicycle. It is a silver Trek 7.1 hybrid valued at $400.


Occurred between 7/22 and 7/24 – Egmont St.

Callers reported their apartment had been broken into over the weekend. Several expensive electronics were missing. It is believed that an unlocked back door may have been the point of entry and exit.

7/21-7/22

Burglary:

Occurred between 11:55 AM and 2 PM on 7/21 – Milton Rd.

A caller reported his son’s bicycle, a 21-speed Giant mountain bike which was gray, had been stolen out of his garage. The garage had a padlock on it which was not locked.

Malicious Damage:

Occurred at 4:10 AM 7/22 – Juniper St.

A caller reported seeing his cousin’s motorcycle pushed over, causing scratches and scrapes. The cousins knew the suspect and reported the name to the police. The police brought her in for larceny of a motor vehicle, and malicious injury to a motor vehicle.

Occurred Overnight 7/21-7/22 – Harvard St./Webster Pl.

An officer reported a store window broken. An employee reported another had reportedly locked up the night before. There was nothing reported missing and no other damage to the store. There was no surveillance equipment in the store.

Animal Control

Occurred on 7/18 – Brookline Ave. Playground

A Parks Department worker was bit on the leg by an off-leash dog while working in the park on Monday. Police are looking for the owner, described as a white male in his 40s with a goatee, and the dog, described as a small black poodle. Anyone with information is asked to call P.O. Pierre Verrier, at 617-730-2730.

Press Release: String of Robberies

Recently, there have been three similar street robberies that have occurred during the early morning hours. These robberies have involved two young black males. In the most recent incident that occurred this morning, a small handgun was believed to be used. It appears that these subjects have been following their targeted victims, as they walk along the street. They later get in front of the victims and hide until victim/s get closer. They then rob the victim of their pocketbook or wallets. In two of the incidents the culprits have gotten violent with their victims by throwing them to the ground.

First robbery occurred on 7-8-2011 at approximately 1:30 AM. The victim in this robbery was a 35 year old female. She was walking down Brookline Ave. from the Fenway area and entered Brookline. As she approached the area of the Lynch Recreation Center, she was grabbed from behind by a subject, who grabbed her handbag and dragged her to the ground. There was a struggle for several minutes and the victim was able to hold onto her bag. Suspect in this case is described as a black male in his teens, 5-8 to 5-10 wearing jeans, a plaid shirt with a red color in his hat and sneakers. There was also a second male subject observed running away

On 7-21-2011, there were two robberies. The first occurred on Perry Street (opposite the park) at 1:00 AM. In this robbery, the victim age 19 and her boyfriend also age 19 had just parked their car, and were walking back to the area of Perry and Brook Sts. When the victims turned onto Perry St from Brook Street they noticed two black males wearing dark clothing, black shorts and black T-shirt with baseball caps. The culprits had walked out of an alleyway that leads to the rear of 13 Perry Street. As the victim approached the doorway at 13 Perry Street, she was attacked from behind and the victim’s purse was forcibly pulled from her shoulder. One of the two suspects in this case appeared to be carrying a small handgun. While the victim was being robbed of her purse, the victim’s boyfriend was held in the doorway and prevented from alerting anyone. One of the suspects in this robbery was wearing a white T-shirt.

On 7-21-2011 at 2:00 AM there was another robbery that occurred in Olmstead Park opposite 77 Pond Avenue. The victim in this case was a 20 year old male. He was sitting in the park on a bench for about 10 minutes, when he was approached from the rear by 2 unknown males. These subjects put a metal object to his neck. The victim believed that this was the barrel of a handgun. The suspects told the victim not to move or turn around and they demanded his money. The victim did say he heard car doors and a vehicle drive off.

Press Release: Male Struck on Boylston St.

On July 20, 2011 at 8:55PM a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle in the vicinity of 901 Boylston Street.
The pedestrian, whose name is still unknown, suffered serious injuries after being struck while attempting to cross the street. He is in stable but grave condition. The driver of the vehicle was taken to Beth Israel and was treated and released.

The Brookline Police Department is requesting the public’s help in identifying the victim. He is described as a 50-60 year old white male, approximately 5’10-5’11” in height and weighing 200 lbs. He has blue eyes, brown/gray wavy hair, and stubble on his chin. He also has a cobra tattoo on his left arm.

7/20-7/21

Robbery:

Occurred at 2:03 AM on 7/21 – Pond Ave.

A man reported being robbed at gunpoint in Olmstead Park. The thieves made off with cash and credit cards. The victim was not able to report a description of the thieves. This is related to the incident on Perry St (below), as well as the incident on Brookline Ave. and Aspinwall Ave. on 7/8.

The victim at Brookline Ave. was walking at 1:36 AM near the park when a male attempted to steal her purse.He was described as a black male, late teens, approximately 5'8"-5'10" in height. He was accompanied by a second male which the victim was unable to describe.


Reported at 1:23 AM on 7/21 – Perry St.

A woman reported being robbed at gunpoint in front of her apartment building. The male that was with her was also attacked. The thieves made off with her purse which contained cash and credit cards. The first suspect was described as a black male, wearing dark clothing, black shorts, black t-shirt, and a baseball cap or "du-rag". The second suspect was also described as a black male, wearing a white t-shirt, dark shorts, and a dark baseball cap with red markings on the front.

MV Accident:

Occured at 8:53 PM on 7/20 - Boylston St.

A male was struck while attempting to cross Boylston St. He suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. The driver was also taken to the hospital, and was treated and released.

Arrest:

Occurred at 10:00 PM on 7/20 – Davis Ave./Cypress St.

Officers observed an individual near a bicycle and determined he was attempting to steal it. A pair of pliers was protruding from his pocket. The individual claimed the bicycle was given to him at no cost, but the bicycle appears to be new and valued very highly so his story appears to be inconsistent. After further investigation, he was arrested for Attempted Larceny. Drugs and drug paraphernalia were also found on his person, so he was further charged with Possession of Class B (crack cocaine).

A caller reported two of his childrens' bicycles were missing from the side of his home.

MV Break-in:

Occured Overnight, 7/18-7/19 – Bellingham Rd.

A motor vehicle in the area was reported broken into. The passenger side window was smashed, and an iPad was taken.

Breaking and Entering:

Occurred at 7:13 PM (7/19) – Tappan St.

A caller reported returning home to find her apartment door unlocked and several expensive electronics missing. A next door neighbor reported a suspicious individual in the building who may or may not be connected with the theft.

Larceny:

Occurred at 9:34 PM (7/19) – Toxteth Street

A blue Trek 6.3 bicycle with black rims and a rear LED light was reported stolen from the area.


Occurred Overnight (7/18-7/19) – Weybridge St.

A blue Schwinn Ranger bicycle was reported stolen from the area.


Occurred Overnight (7/18-7/19) – Baker Circle

A caller reported his laptop had been stolen from his vehicle sometime overnight. He had accidently left his windows rolled down the night before.

Found Property:

Tips for Preventing Heat Related Illnesses:

• NEVER leave children or pets alone in a closed, parked vehicle.
• Slow down, avoid strenuous activity.
• Avoid too much sun.
• Plan outdoor games and activities for early morning or evening.
• Avoid extreme temperature changes.
• Stay indoors as much as possible and use air conditioners to cool the air. When the temperature is in the 90’s, fans will not prevent heat related illness. Taking a cool shower or bath is a better way to cool off.
• Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light-colored clothing that will cover as much skin as possible.
• Protect face and head by wearing a wide brimmed hat.
• Drink plenty of fluids, even if you do not feel thirsty, and avoid alcoholic beverages, drinks with caffeine and large amounts of sugar—these actually cause you to lose more body fluid.
• Use your stove less and try to cook your meals in the cooler part of the day.
• Although any one at any time can suffer from heat-related illness, some people are at greater risk than others.
• Check regularly on:
o Infants and young children
o People aged 65 or older
o People who have a mental illness
o Those who are physically ill, especially with heart disease or high blood pressure
• Visit adults at risk at least twice a day and closely watch them for signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Infants and young children, of course, need much more frequent watching.
• KEEP COOL – Spend as much time as you can in cooler surroundings

7/18-7/19

MV Accident:

Occurred at 4:11 PM (7/18) – Horace James Circle

Officers responded to a hit and run of a cyclist. The victim was transported to the hospital, and he was able to relay a license plate number to the police. Officers went to the home of the registered owner of the vehicle. It was revealed that she did stop after the accident, but went home to decide how to proceed. Officers issued her a citation for Leaving the Scene of Personal Injury and a Property Damage Incident.


Occurred at 3:25 PM (7/18) – Beverly Rd.

Officers responded to a motor vehicle accident in the area. The victim was transported to the hospital with very serious injuries. The vehicle she was driving was found crashed into a tree up the street from where she was found. The accident is currently under investigation.

MV Break-in:

Occurred at 7:48 AM (7/19) – Babcock St.

Officers responded to a reported vehicle break-in. A wallet was stolen, but a GPS unit was left behind.


Occurred at 5:45 PM (7/18) – Independence Drive.

Officers responded to a reported vehicle break-in. A GPS unit as well as important documents were reported stolen.


Occurred at 2:30 PM (7/18) – Monmouth St.

Officers responded to the area for a reported vehicle break-in. The driver’s side window was smashed, but it still unclear how the damage was caused. Nothing was taken, even though valuable items were in plain view.

Larceny:

Occurred at 1:15 PM (7/18) – Beacon St./St. Paul St.

Officers responded to a reported larceny. The victim reported her pocketbook was stolen out of her office. At the same time, another victim reported her pocketbook stolen from the same building.

Surveillance footage of the suspect using stolen credit cards was retrieved and an investigation commenced. The suspect was seen driving away, and officers followed up by going to the home where the vehicle was registered. There, they found the suspect in possession of stolen items from both victims. A package from an address across the street from where the thefts occurred was also retrieved from the vehicle. The suspect will be summonsed to court for 3 counts of Larceny.


Occurred between 6/27 and 7/17 Reported on (7/18) – St. Paul St.

Officers responded for a reported larceny. Several expensive electronics were stolen from his apartment, and officers are following up with a renovation company who was working in the building, during which time the victim had to temporarily live at another location.


Occurred on 7/15 between 6 AM and 3:30 PM, Reported on 7/18 – Egmont St.

There was a reported larceny of jewelry. Officers are following up with a renovation company who was working in the building.

7/15-7/18/2011

Found Property:

Occurred at 10:52 AM on 7/16 – Beacon St./Harvard St.

An officer discovered a wallet on the sidewalk at the above intersection. It is being held at the station for safekeeping.

Burglary:

Occurred at 2:12 AM on 7/17 – Cypress St.

A caller observed the rear door of a restaurant to be smashed. Officers responded to the scene and discovered the cash register had been cleaned out. After viewing store surveillance, officers are continuing their investigation.


Occurred at 4:15 PM on 7/15 – Kent St.

Officers responded to the area for a reported Breaking and Entering and Burglary. The victim left her apartment for 2 hours and returned to find her apartment door had been pried open and several valuables were missing.

When the officers arrived, they discovered the apartment next door had also been broken into, and several valuables were also missing. Both scenes as well as the foyer of the building were processed and the investigation is continuing.

O.U.I.:

Occurred at 12:43 AM on 7/17 – Boylston St./Chestnut Hill Ave.

An officer on patrol observed a motor vehicle speeding, conducting lane changes where not allowed, and attempting to pass on the right. When a stop was conducted, the officer noticed a strong odor of alcohol and slurred speech from the driver. After further investigation, he was placed under arrest.

MV Accident:

Occurred at 11:26 AM on 7/17 – St. Paul St./Sewall Ave.

Officers responded to the area for a motor vehicle accident. One vehicle was traveling on Sewall Ave when it was struck by another on the side. The vehicle that was struck was then propelled into a third vehicle, which was parked. There were no injuries reported.


Occurred at 2:51 PM on 7/15 – Beacon St./Dean St.

Officers responded to the area for a motor vehicle accident. Vehicle 1 had a green signal and proceeded through the intersection, when Vehicle 2 on the cross street made a right turn on the red signal, colliding with Vehicle 1. Four individuals were transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

MV Break-in:

Occurred at 4:15 PM on 7/17 – Brookline Ave./Aspinwall Ave.

Officers responded to the area for a reported motor vehicle break-in. The victim reported a backpack missing.


Occurred at 4:00 PM on 7/17 – Brookline Ave./Parkway Rd.

Officers responded to the area for a reported motor vehicle break-in. The owners of the vehicle parked it and returned half an hour later to find the front passenger window smashed and a cell phone was taken. The investigation is continuing.


Occurred on 10:30 AM on 7/16 – Auburn St.

Officers responded to the area for a reported motor vehicle break-in. The victim stated that sometime overnight someone had smashed her rear windshield, and a brick was discovered on the floor of the car. Nothing was reported missing. The investigation is continuing.

7/14-7/15/2011

Breaking and Entering:

Occurred at 8:00 AM on 7/15 – Lancaster Terrace

Officers responded to the area for a report of Breaking and Entering. A security guard who was hired to watch the house while the owner was on vacation reported discovering the basement door ajar, and the door frame where it met the dead bolt splintered. Nothing was reported missing.

Larceny:

Occurred at 10:30 AM on 7/13, Reported on 7/14 – Westbourne Terrace

Officers responded to the area for a reported larceny. The victim reported 2 white males, approximately 30-35, and one was bald, knocking on her apartment door and announcing themselves as plumbers. She let them in the apartment, and did not watch over them as they looked at the bathroom and kitchen. When they left, she discovered an envelope with a large amount of money missing from the kitchen counter.

OUI:

Occurred at 12:59 AM on 7/15 (Babcock St./Commonwealth Ave.)

Officers responded to a call of a motor vehicle accident, where the caller reported the other party was intoxicated. The officer reported a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the driver. After further investigation, it was determined that the driver was intoxicated and was subsequently placed under arrest.

Found Property:

Occurred at 8:14 PM (7/14) – Beacon St./Washington St.

A wallet was reported found in the area. There have been repeated attempts to contact the owner. The wallet is at the police station for safekeeping.


Occurred at 5:36 PM (7/14) – Clinton Rd./Dean Rd.

A handbag was reported found in the area, with no owner identification in it. The handbag is at the police station for safekeeping.


Occured at 2:15 PM (7/14) – Cypress St./Washington St.

A bakery owner in the area reported finding a passport in the shop. The passport was submitted to the property clerk.

7/13-7/14/2011

Larceny:

Occurred at 8:35 PM (7/13) – Beacon St./Harvard St.

Officers responded to the area for a report of shoplifting. The thief had called several times during the week inquiring about an electronic, and when he came into the store the salesperson retrieved it for him. The thief made off with it after it was left unattended for a few seconds at the register, and reportedly drove off in a red Nissan sedan. Police are reviewing surveillance footage.

Breaking and Entering:

Reported on 7/13, occurred at 8:00 AM (7/12) – Naples St./Commonwealth Ave.

Officers responded to the area for a reported Breaking and Entering of a Motor Vehicle. The caller had two visiting friends park their vehicles in her driveway overnight and in the morning both discovered their driver’s doors were ajar and their glove boxes and center consoles had been rummaged through. A GPS device was missing from one of the vehicles. This occurred around the same time as the Stetson St. incident, where the victim reported discovering her driver’s door ajar and the glove compartment and center console rummaged through. There, nothing of value was reported missing, and there were no signs of forced entry.

7/12-7/13/2011

With the recent rise in motor vehicle break-ins reported, the Brookline Police Department would like to remind residents to make sure their vehicles are secure.

Breaking and Entering/Burglary/Larceny:

Occurred at 2:05 AM (7/13) – Beacon St./Washington St.

Officers responded to the area for a possible Breaking and Entering in process. When they arrived, they canvassed the building looking for suspects. A male was discovered sleeping, and appeared intoxicated when officers attempted to arouse him. Another male was discovered sleeping in a chair, also appearing intoxicated. Nothing was reported missing by the owner. The two males were arrested and charged with Defacement of Property and Breaking and Entering in the Night.


Occurred at 2:10 PM (7/12) – Dummer St.

Officers responded to the area for a report of attempted Burglary of a store. The owner tried to unlock the door that morning but could not; upon calling a locksmith, he informed her that it looked like someone attempted to pick the lock. The burglary attempt was not successful, as nothing was reported missing.


Occurred at 1:13 PM (7/12) – Boylston St./Washington St.

Officers responded to the area for a report of attempted Breaking and Entering and Larceny from a motor vehicle. The victim responded parking her vehicle overnight. Upon returning to it the next day, she noticed that someone had attempted to pick her lock, causing damage to it. The break attempt was not successful, as the door was still locked and nothing was missing.


Occurred at 10:10 AM (7/12) – Babcock St.

Officers responded to the area for a report of Breaking and Entering and Larceny from a motor vehicle. The victim reported his GPS missing from his car, which he believes may have been left unlocked. There were no signs of forced entry.


Occurred at 7:20 AM (7/12) – Stetson St.

Officers responded to the area for a report of Breaking and Entering of a motor vehicle. The victim reported discovering her driver’s door ajar and the glove compartment and center console rummaged through. Nothing of value was reported missing. There were no signs of forced entry.

7/11-7/12/2011

Arrest:

Occurred at 10:00 PM (7/11) – Chestnut St.

Officers were patrolling the area and observed a motor vehicle traveling on Cypress St. A query of the license plate number returned that there was an active arrest warrant for the registered owner of the vehicle. Officers pulled the vehicle over and discovered that the registered owner was driving it, after confirming through a photo from the RMV.

Once the warrant was confirmed through dispatch, officers returned to the vehicle to make an arrest. At this point, the passengers became irate and began yelling profanities at the officers, and one made a threat while throwing her sandal out the window. Once the arrest of the driver was made, one officer was attempting to explain the situation to one of the passengers, and was standing next to the vehicle while doing so. The passenger who had thrown the sandal kicked the rear door open, hitting the officer in the leg. This passenger was then ordered out the vehicle, but resisted. One officer attempted to reach into the vehicle to escort the passenger out, when another passenger pushed the officer backwards. The passenger whom the officer was attempting to arrest finally stepped out the vehicle, and was placed under arrest.

While one officer was radioing to dispatch, the passenger who had pushed the officer backwards charged at another officer and became involved in a physical struggle. O.C. pepper spray was used in taking custody of the subject. Two officers sustained minor injuries from this struggle and were treated at the scene.

Through inventory of the vehicle, marijuana was discovered, as well as empty plastic bags for distribution purposes. The three who were arrested were transported back to the station and are facing multiple charges, including Assault and Battery, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Person, and Possession of Class D with intent to distribute.


Occurred at 9:55 PM (7/11) – Kent St.

Officers reported to the area for an attempted Breaking and Entering. When they arrived, they discovered the suspect trying to enter an apartment on the second floor of the building. The suspect was arrested on several charges, including a warrant out of Roxbury District Court.
