A TJ Maxx employee reported a shoplifting. The employee stated that he observed a male subject placing items into a duffle bag. The subject was placed under arrest for Shoplifting.
Trespassing: 7/11 at 4:29 PM- Dummer St. / Amory St.
An officer observed an individual walking in the area of Egmont St. This individual was known to have a No Trespass Order issued for this particular area. The subject was placed under arrest for Trespassing.
Shoplifting: 7/11 at 6:20 PM- Harvard St.
A TJ Maxx employee reported a shoplifting. The employee stated that he observed a female subject place items into a plastic bag and then attempt to return those items at the customer service desk. The subject was placed under arrest for Shoplifting.
Bike Theft: 7/12 at 6:41 PM- Harvard St.
An individual reported the larceny of a bicycle. The victim stated that he locked his bicycle to a rack on Harvard St. at approximately 2:00 PM. When he returned several hours later he discovered that his bike was missing.
Not Duly Licensed: 7/12 at 9:11 PM- Pleasant St. / Commonwealth Ave.
An officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The officer initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Pleasant St. and Commonwealth Ave. A query revealed that the driver did not have a valid license and he was placed under arrest for Not Duly Licensed.
Not Duly Licensed: 7/13 at 2:45 PM- Harvard St. / Babcock St.
An officer observed a vehicle make an illegal U-turn. The officer initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Harvard St and Babcock St. A query revealed that the driver did not have a valid license and she was placed under arrest for Not Duly Licensed.

An individual reported the breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. The victim stated that someone had entered his unlocked van and removed a laptop from the front seat.

An individual reported the breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. The victim stated that unknown suspect(s) had smashed a passenger side window and pried the hood of a vehicle open. It appeared that the suspect attempted to remove the vehicle’s headlights.
Shoplifting: 7/12 at 1:18 PM- Harvard St.
A Stop and Shop employee reported a shoplifting. The employee stated that he observed a male individual place items in a suitcase and leave the store without paying. Officers were able to locate an individual who matched the description in the area. The individual was positively identified and placed under arrest for Shoplifting and Carrying a Dangerous Weapon (Knife). The suspect was also placed under arrest for warrants out of Malden and West Roxbury District Court.
MV Theft: 7/13 at 5:30 PM- Aspinwall Ave.
An individual reported the theft of her motor vehicle. The victim stated that she parked her vehicle in the area of Aspinwall Ave. and entered her residence. The victim stated that when she went to leave her home a short time later she realized that she had left her keys in the front door lock. Both her keys and her vehicle were missing at that time.

Operating after Suspension: 7/12 at 4:04 PM- High St. / Oakland Rd.
A query revealed that the operator of a motor vehicle had a suspended license. The officer initiated a traffic stop at the corner of High St. and Oakland Road Ext. It was confirmed that the driver had a suspended license and he was placed under arrest for Operating after Suspension.
Warrant Arrest: 7/12 at 10:58 PM- Washington St.
Officers responded to the area of Washington St. for the report of an intoxicated person. Officers located an individual matching the description in the area. A query revealed the subject had a warrant out of Boston District Court. The subject was placed under arrest for the warrant.

An officer observed a vehicle fail to stop for a red light. The officer initiated a traffic stop at the corner of Harvard Street and Webster Street. Upon reaching the vehicle officers could detect an odor of an alcoholic beverage. Based on the observations the driver was placed under arrest for Operating under the Influence of Liquor.

An officer observed two individual riding bicycles on the sidewalk. The officer stopped the subjects on Beacon St. A query revealed that one of the individuals had a warrant out of Concord District Court.

A query of a vehicle’s information revealed that the registered owner had a warrant for his arrest. Officers initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Washington St. and Juniper St. The driver was confirmed to have a warrant out of Boston District Court and he was placed under arrest.

Police Reports 7/10-7/11
OUIL: 7/10 at 5:25 PM- Larz Anderson Park
Officers responded to Larz Anderson Park to check on the well being of a male individual. Upon arrival, officers located a male subject sleeping in the driver’s seat of a running vehicle. Upon making contact with the operator, officers could detect an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his person. Based on the observations the operator was placed under arrest for Operating under the Influence of Liquor.
Burglary: 7/10 between 2:55 and 3:20 PM- Summit Ave.
Officers responded to Summit Ave. for a breaking and entering report. The victim stated that she returned home to find her rear door forced open. Two iPads, two computers, an iPod, and jewelry were reported stolen from the residence. The victim stated that she observed a male individual (18 years old, light skin Hispanic, 6’, thin build, wearing a black hat, black T-shirt, black shorts, carrying a black backpack and riding a black bicycle) leaving her neighbor’s yard as she returned home. A search of the area for the suspect yielded negative results.

Police Reports 7/9-7/10
Bait Bike Arrest: 7/9 at 11:18 PM- Harvard St. / Beacon St.
On 7/9 at approximately 11:20 PM, officers received notice that the department’s GPS equipped “bait bicycle” had been removed from a pole on Fuller St. Officers observed four subjects on bicycles in the area of Harvard St. Officers were able to stop three subjects, while the fourth subject fled on a bicycle that resembled the bait bike. Officers were able to stop this subject after a brief pursuit. At that time it was confirmed that the bicycle the subject had been riding was in fact the bait bike. The individual was placed under arrest for Larceny Over $250. The other three individuals that had been riding with the arrestee were also placed under arrest for Larceny Over $250. Three of the arrestees were additionally charged with Receiving Stolen Property.

An officer observed a vehicle travel through a solid red light. The officer initiated a traffic stop on Longwood Ave. A query revealed that the driver had a suspended license and he was placed under arrest for Operating after Suspension.

Officers responded to Dwight Street at Green Street for the report of an unarmed robbery. The victim stated that she was talking to a friend on the street when an unknown male individual approached her, shoved her, and stole her cell phone. The suspect then fled down an alleyway. The suspect was described as a dark skinned male, 5’9”-6’, 180-200 lbs., short hair, unshaven, wearing gray shorts and a T-shirt. A search of the area for the suspect yielded negative results.
Operating after Revocation: 7/9 at 6:35 AM- Harvard St.
A query of a vehicle’s information revealed that the registered owner had a revoked license. The officer initiated a traffic stop on Harvard St. The driver was confirmed to be the registered owner and he was placed under arrest for Operating after Revocation.

An individual reported the breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. The victim stated that she parked her vehicle in the area of Davis Ave. on 7/7. When she returned on 7/9 she discovered her vehicle had been rummaged through and a GPS unit was missing from the center console.
B&E MV: Between 7/8 and 7/9- Davis Ave.
An individual reported the breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. The victim stated that she parked her vehicle in the area of Davis Ave. on 7/8. When she returned the next morning she discovered someone had entered the vehicle and removed a GPS unit.

An individual reported the breaking and entering of a MV. The victim stated that he returned to his vehicle to find that it had been rummaged through. A driver’s license and cash were removed from the vehicle.

Larceny Arrest: 7/9 at 7:00 PM- University Rd.
Officers responded to the area of University Rd. for the report of a larceny in progress. The reporting party stated that a female individual was attempting to steal a bicycle off a porch. Officers were able to apprehend a subject who fit the description in the area. The subject was positively identified and she was placed under arrest for Larceny from a Building.
B&E MV: Between 7/6 and 7/7- Clark Rd.
An individual reported the breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. The victim stated that he parked his vehicle in his driveway on 7/6. When he returned the next day he discovered that someone had entered the vehicle and removed an iPod.

Scam Advisory
There has been an uptick in the reports of larcenies under false pretense (scams) over the last several weeks. There have been several types of scams reported by both individuals and businesses.
A number of businesses throughout Brookline have been the target of scams purported by individuals claiming to work for NSTAR. In each case, a business received a fraudulent call from an individual claiming to be a representative of NSTAR. The individual stated that the business had an outstanding debt on their electricity bill and that their electricity would be shut off if they did not pay by a certain time with a prepaid card.
A second scam that has been reported involved the false claim of being hired to do work around a victim’s home. In this case, the victim stated that a male individual rang her doorbell stating that he was hired by a neighbor to put up a fence adjacent to the victim’s property. The victim allowed the suspect to enter her kitchen so that he could look at the property from a window. After the suspect left, the victim discovered that her bedroom had been ransacked and that there was an extensive amount of jewelry missing. It appears that the first suspect distracted the victim while a second individual entered the home and stole the jewelry.
The Brookline Police Department advises residents and businesses to be cautious of such scams. When in doubt, call the company to verify such claims before sending any money or allowing anyone into your home. If you believe you have been the victim of a scam please report it to the police.

An officer observed a vehicle weave out of its marked lane. The officer initiated a traffic stop on Boylston St. A query revealed that the driver did not have a valid license and he was placed under arrest for Not Duly Licensed.

Bike Theft: Between 6/30 and 7/8- Pleasant St.
An individual reported the larceny of a bicycle. The victim stated that he left his bike in the bicycle room of his building on 6/30. When he returned on 7/8, he discovered his bicycle was missing. The bicycle room is accessible to residents only.
Larceny from Building: Between 7/5 and 7/6- Beacon St.
A building manager reported the larceny of several brass doorknobs throughout a Beacon St. building. The reporting party stated that approximately 10 brass doorknobs had been removed throughout the building.
Traffic Arrest: 7/8 at 6:02 PM- Babcock St. / John St.
A bicycle officer observed a vehicle make an illegal U-turn. The officer signaled for the driver to pull over, however the vehicle sped away at a high rate of speed, nearly striking several people in a marked crosswalk. Officers were able to locate the vehicle in the area a short time later. The driver was placed under arrest for Refusing to Obey a Police Officer and Operating to Endanger. An inventory search of the arrestee’s person produced two fake IDs and a stolen license. The arrestee will additionally be charged with Possessing a Forged Driver’s License, Possessing a Stolen Driver’s License, and Receiving Stolen Property.

Officers responded to the area of Beacon St. and Charles St. for the report of a traffic crash. Upon arrival officers observed two vehicles that had been involved in an accident. It was determined that Vehicle #1 had been stopped at a red light when Vehicle #2 struck it from behind. Upon making contact with the operator of Vehicle #2 officers could detect an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his person. Based on the observations the driver of Vehicle #2 was placed under arrest for Operating under the Influence of Liquor. There were no injuries as a result of the accident.

An individual reported the larceny of a gas grill. The victim stated that someone had removed a gas grill from her side porch.

Upcoming Liquor Compliance Checks
The Brookline Police Department will be conducting liquor stings, which involve liquor compliance checks starting now throughout the next couple of months. These stings will be conducted at all liquor licensed establishments, including package stores, restaurants and variety stores. These compliance checks are part of the duties of the department’s liquor control officer and will be done on a continuous basis throughout the year.
Preventing underage drinking is everyone’s responsibility. Compliance checks reassure youths do not have easy access to alcohol and that people over 21 years of age are not buying alcohol for underage youths, including employees and liquor license holders. Such activities and frequent oversight of alcohol retailers increases compliance.

An officer observed a vehicle cross over marked lines into the bike lane on two separate occasions. The officer initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Longwood Avenue and Sewall Avenue. Upon reaching the driver’s window the officer could detect an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. Based on the observations the driver was placed under arrest for Operating under the Influence of Liquor.

Officers responded to Babcock St. for a residential alarm. Upon arrival officers observed a broken window and a brick lying on the porch. Officers furthered observed a second broken window and another open window in the rear of the home. It did not appear that anything had been removed from the home.

An individual reported the larceny of a bicycle. The victim stated that someone had removed his locked bicycle from the MBTA stop in Coolidge Corner.

A Walgreens employee reported a shoplifting. The employee stated that he observed a male individual place several items in a personal bag and leave the store without paying. The suspect was described as a black male, 5’10”, heavy set, wearing a dark baseball hat. The suspect left in a late model tan or brown sedan. A search of the area yielded negative results. A Trader Joe’s employee reported a shoplifting. The employee stated that she observed a male individual place an item in a personal bag and leave the store without paying. Officers located an individual who matched the description in the area. The suspect was positively identified and he was placed under arrest for Shoplifting.
Package Theft: Between 7/5 and 7/6- Kent St.
An individual reported the larceny of a package. The victim stated that he received confirmation of a delivery to his Kent St. residence. However, when he went to retrieve the package he discovered that it had been torn open and its contents had been removed.

An individual reported the larceny of tires and wheels from his basement on Beacon St. The victim stated that sometime in January he switched out the summer tires on his vehicle for winter tires. The victim stated that he left the summer tires in a shared basement. When he returned on this date he discovered the tires were missing.

A Harvard St. business was the target of a scam. The business received a fraudulent call from an individual claiming to be a representative of NSTAR. The individual stated that the business had an outstanding debt on their electricity bill and that their electricity would be shut off if they did not pay by a certain time with a prepaid card.

Disorderly Conduct: 7/5 at 5:40 AM- Washington St. / Park St.
Officers observed two vehicles impeding traffic at the intersection of Washington St. and Park St. Vehicle #1 had broken down and several individuals were attempting to jump start it with the assistance of Vehicle #2. A query of both vehicles’ registrations revealed that Vehicle #1 was a rental car. The individual on the rental agreement was not present, therefore the vehicle was towed. At this time, one of the individuals present became enraged, yelling at officers and refusing to follow officers’ orders. This individual was placed under arrest for Disorderly Conduct. A search produced several pills and a license that did not belong to the arrestee. The suspect will also be charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B and Possession of a Stolen Driver’s License.

An officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The officer initiated a traffic stop just before the intersection of Boylston St. and Chestnut Hill Ave. A query revealed that the driver had a suspended license and he was placed under arrest for Operating after Suspension.
An officer observed a vehicle cross over marked lines into the bike lane on two separate occasions. The officer initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Longwood Avenue and Sewall Avenue. Upon reaching the driver’s window the officer could detect an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. Based on the observations the driver was placed under arrest for Operating under the Influence of Liquor.

Officers responded to Babcock St. for a residential alarm. Upon arrival officers observed a broken window and a brick lying on the porch. Officers furthered observed a second broken window and another open window in the rear of the home. It did not appear that anything had been removed from the home.

An individual reported the larceny of a bicycle. The victim stated that someone had removed his locked bicycle from the MBTA stop in Coolidge Corner.

Officers responded to the area of Nightingale St. in Boston to serve an arrest warrant out of Brookline District Court. The subject also had warrants out of Waltham, Somerville, and Dedham District Courts. The subject was placed under arrest without incident.

A Thorndike St. business was the target of a scam. The business received a fraudulent call from an individual claiming to be a representative of NSTAR. The individual stated that the business had an outstanding debt on their electricity bill and that their electricity would be shut off if they did not pay by a certain time with a prepaid card.
Motorcycle Theft: Between 6/30 and 7/1- St. Mary’s St.
An individual reported the theft of his motorcycle. The victim stated that he left his motorcycle on the sidewalk of St. Mary’s St. When he returned several days later he discovered that his motorcycle was missing.

An individual reported a larceny from his vehicle. The victim stated that from a distance he observed a male subject remove a leaf blower from the bed of his truck. The suspect then fled in an older model black pick-up truck. The suspect was described as a heavy set white male in his 30’s wearing dark clothing and gloves.
B&E MV: Between 7/1 and 7/2- South St.
An individual reported the breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. The victim stated that she parked her vehicle in the area of South St. at approximately 10:00 PM on 7/1. When she returned the next morning she discovered her handbag, iPad, and a gold bracelet were missing. The suspect also removed an unlocked bicycle from a bike rack attached to the vehicle.

The individual stated that the business had an outstanding debt on their electricity bill and that their electricity would be shut off if they did not pay by a certain time with a prepaid card.

A Verizon Wireless employee reported a shoplifting. The employee stated that he discovered a pair of speakers missing from the store’s shelves. The individual stated that all employees were busy with customers at the probable time of the larceny and they did not observe anyone acting suspiciously.

Larceny: Between 6/28 and 6/30- Station St.
An individual reported the larceny of his laptop. The victim stated that his laptop was stolen from an office at his place of employment. The victim believes the larceny occurred during normal business hours, when the front and back doors were open to the public.

An individual reported malicious damage to the front door of the Larz Anderson Aurto Museum. The individual stated that the glass door was intact when she locked up the previous night. Police Reports 6/27-7/1
Burglary Arrest: 6/30 at 4:15 AM- Powell St.
Officers responded to Powell St. for the report of a breaking and entering in progress. The victim observed a male subject in his residence, at which point he entered a bathroom and called the police. The suspect exited the front door and was confronted by officers, at which point the suspect turned around and re-entered the residence. Officers entered the residence and located the suspect hiding behind a couch. Officers were able to apprehend the suspect and he was placed under arrest for Unarmed Burglary and Larceny from a Building.

Bike Theft: Between 6/26 and 6/27- Freeman St.
An individual reported the larceny of a bicycle from his rear porch. The bicycle was left unlocked.

An individual reported the theft of a bicycle. The victim stated that he locked together four bicycles and placed them in a garage. When he returned the next morning, he discovered that the lock had been defeated and one of the bicycles was missing. The garage door had been left open.

An individual reported a larceny from his gym locker. The victim stated that he placed his belongings in a locker at a gym on Commonwealth Ave. When the victim returned, he discovered that the padlock was no longer fastened and approximately $460 was missing from his wallet.

OUIL: 6/28 at 11:48 PM- Washington St. / Thayer St.
Officers responded to to Washington Street at the intersection of Thayer Street for the report of a traffic crash. Officers located two vehicles that had been involved in a motor vehicle accident. Vehicle #1 was struck from behind by Vehicle #2 while it was yielding to pedestrians in a crosswalk. Upon speaking with the operator of Vehicle #2 officers could detect an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his person. Based on the observations the driver of Vehicle #2 was placed under arrest for Operating under the Influence of Liquor. There were no injuries as a result of the accident.

An officer observed an operator slumped over the steering wheel while at a red light. The officer approached the vehicle and awoke the driver. Upon reaching the vehicle the officer could detect an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the driver. Based on the observations the driver was placed under arrest for Operating under the Influence of Liquor and Operating after Suspension.

Public Meeting, Police Apply for Grant, Wed, July 3rd, 9:00AM
The Brookline Police Department will meet in Open Session on Wednesday, July 3, 3013 at 9:00 a.m. in the Community Room at the Public Safety Headquarters at 350 Washington Street, Brookline, Massachusetts to discuss the 2013 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant application. The BPD will be applying for $18,050.50 in grant funds through this Norfolk County regional application. This is an annual application for federal grant funding through the Bureau of Justice Assistance.

Operating after Suspension: 6/27 at 12:48 AM- Brook St. / Hurd Rd.
An officer observed a vehicle fail to signal while making a turn. The officer initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Brook St. and Hurd Rd. A query revealed that a passenger had a warrant out of Lawrence District Court. A search of this passenger’s bag produced fireworks. The passenger was placed under arrest for the warrant and Possession of Fireworks.

An individual reported a larceny of jewelry from her home. The victim stated that a male individual (WM, ~50 years old, heavy set 5'9"-10") rang her doorbell stating that he was hired by a neighbor to put up a fence adjacent to the victim’s property. The victim allowed the suspect to enter her kitchen so that he could look at the property from a window. After the suspect left, the victim discovered that her bedroom had been ransacked and that there was an extensive amount of jewelry missing. It appears that the first suspect distracted the victim while a second individual entered the home and stole the jewelry.

Not Duly Licensed: 6/25 at 10:29 AM- W. Roxbury Pkwy.
An officer observed a dump truck traveling on the W. Roxbury Parkway, a roadway that is restricted to trucks. A query revealed that the driver did not have a valid license and he was placed under arrest for Not Duly Licensed.
Operating after Revocation: 6/24 at 11:59 PM- Boylston St. / Reservoir Rd.
An officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The officer conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Boylston St. and Reservoir Rd. A query revealed that the driver had a revoked license. A search produced several plastic bags containing marijuana. The driver was placed under arrest for Operating after Revocation and Possession of Class D with Intent to Distribute.
Larceny: Between 6/15 and 6/24- Gardner Rd.
A Gardner Rd. resident reported the larceny of a 24 foot ladder from his backyard.
Warrant Arrest: 6/24 at 6:09 PM- S. Huntington / Huntington
Officers responded to the area of Village Way to serve an arrest warrant. Upon seeing officers, the suspect took off running. After a short foot pursuit officers were able to stop the subject in the area of S. Huntington Ave. The individual was placed under arrest for the warrant out of Brookline District Court and Resisting Arrest.

An individual reported the theft of a bicycle. The victim stated that he last saw his bicycle on 6/21 at approximately 7:30 AM. When he returned he discovered his bike was missing. The bicycle had been locked to a wooden fence. It appears that the cable lock had been cut.

A Walgreens employee reported a shoplifting. The employee stated that she observed a male individual remove sunglasses from a display case and place them in his pocket. The suspect then left the store without paying. Officers were able locate an individual in the area that matched the description. The subject was positively identified as the shoplifter and he was placed under arrest for Shoplifting.

Larceny Bait Bike: 6/23 at 9:07 PM- St. Paul St. / Commonwealth Ave.
Officers received notice that the department’s GPS tracking “bait bike” had been stolen and was in the area of Commonwealth Ave. and St. Paul St. The bait bike had been locked to a sign on Fuller St. Officers observed an individual riding the bicycle on St. Mary’s St. After a short pursuit, officers stopped the suspect in the area of Park Dr. and Beacon St. The suspect was placed under arrest for Larceny over $250 and Resisting Arrest.
Bike Theft: 6/21 at 8:00 PM- Pond Ave.
An individual reported the larceny of a bicycle. The victim stated that his bicycle was stolen from a moving truck sometime around 8:00 PM on 6/21.

The suspect was described as a white male with short blonde hair wearing a short sleeved black polo shirt. The victim stated that the suspect had his shoulders, arms, and head inside of an open window. The suspect fled when he made eye contact with the victim. The suspect fled towards Pleasant St. A search of the area for the suspect yielded negative results. It appears that the subject cut and removed a window screen to gain access.

An individual reported the theft of a bicycle. The victim stated that he heard a loud noise coming from the area of his open garage. The victim observed an individual riding away on his son’s bicycle. The suspect was described as wearing dark clothing and a black backpack. A search of the area for the suspect yielded negative results.

The suspect was described as a WM, ~25 years old, short dark hair, wearing a back short sleeve t-shirt with faded gold lettering on the front and the initials "RS" written in large letters, black basketball shorts, black sneakers, and carrying a black hooded sweatshirt. A search of the area for the suspect yielded negative results.

An individual reported the theft of a bicycle. The victim stated that he attached his bicycle to a rack of the front porch of a building. The victim stated that the bicycle might not have been properly secured.
Larceny: 6/17 between 2:00 and 4:00 PM- Pleasant St.
An individual reported the larceny of several pieces of jewelry. The victim stated that she left her apartment to go to the community room located within her building. When she returned to her apartment she discovered that someone had opened her file cabinet and removed several pieces of jewelry. There were no signs of forced entry.

An officer observed two motorized scooters operating erratically. Officers were able to stop one of the scooters in the area of Washington St. A query revealed that the driver had a suspended license and he was placed under arrest for Operating after Suspension. The second scooter was unable to be stopped.

An officer observed two male individuals riding a motorized scooter without helmets. After a brief pursuit, the scooter was involved in an accident with another vehicle. The two male passengers then fled on foot towards the Muddy River. Officers were able to stop the subjects in the area of the Muddy River. The scooter had previously been reported stolen out of Dorchester. Both subjects were placed under arrest for Receiving Stolen Property, Possession of Burglarious Tools, and various traffic offenses.
