An officer responded to Juniper St. for a report of a past larceny on Wednesday morning. The reporting person stated that their son’s boots were taken from a shared hallway earlier that morning. They were last seen on the evening of February 4th. At that time, nothing else appeared to be missing outside of the other apartments within the building.

On Wednesday morning, an officer was dispatched to Sears Rd. for a report of a past larceny. The victim stated that over the past few months, she had begun noticing several items missing from her home. As she had continued to search for the various items, the victim began noticing even more of her property that could not be located. Police are investigating.

Around 11 o’clock in the morning, an officer arrived to a residence on Kent St. to tend to a report of past package thefts. The victim stated that over the past month, he had ordered and not received packages on several separate occasions. A recent delivery confirmation to his residence with no signs of the package prompted the victim to go through his prior, unreceived, purchases. At this point he concluded that they, too, must have been stolen from his residence. A follow-up has been requested.

Tuesday, February 6th

Around 2:45 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to a gym on Commonwealth Ave. for a larceny report. The victim stated that she had placed her valuables, unsecured, within the locker room. Upon returning back to the locker, her wallet and keys had been taken. 

On Tuesday evening, an officer was dispatched to St. Paul St. for a fraud report involving an IRS scam. The victim had received a call that afternoon from an individual claiming to be affiliated with the IRS. She was told that she owed years’ worth of back taxes. In order to avoid jail time, the caller told the victim that she would need to purchase pre-paid cards to pay off the balance due. The victim became suspicious and asked for confirmation regarding what she owed the IRS. The caller adamantly confirmed their affiliation with the Internal Revenue Service, influencing the nervous victim to purchase the aforementioned pre-paid cards. After doing so, the victim was reassured that this was a scam and hung up. They contacted the company associated with the cards and filed a report with Brookline Police after speaking with representatives. The case is active at this time. 

Monday, February 5th

An officer was dispatched to Brookline PD’s lobby for a larceny report on Monday, February 5. The victim stated that their workplace equipment had been removed from their office. This is an active case.

A store manager contacted the Station to report fraudulent activity on behalf of one of their former employees. The activity occurred during the months of August 2017 through January 2018. A follow-up has been requested for this active case.

At approximately 2:10 on Friday afternoon, an officer was dispatched to the area of Brookline Ave/Parkway Rd. on a report of a breaking and entering and larceny of a motor vehicle. The victim stated that he had parked his car at this location during the early hours of Friday morning. Upon arriving back to his vehicle that afternoon, he noticed that his passenger's side window had been smashed out, with several items missing within his vehicle. In addition, the victim stated that the passenger side mirror had also suffered damage.

An officer was assigned to New Terrace Rd. for a report of a past breaking and entering. After leaving her residence that morning, the victim returned to discover her apartment in a state of disarray. A pair of boots had gone missing, in addition to a couple of electronic-related items. An arrest has been made.

A victim called the Brookline Police Station to report a burglary that had occurred at her residence on Friday afternoon. She stated that a prescription medication of hers had gone missing from her bathroom. It was noted that she had not had any guests recently and had seen the prescription two days prior to filling a report. This is an active case.

An officer was dispatched to Freeman St. for a larceny report Saturday morning. The victim stated that several pieces of her jewelry had been taken. The victim did not notice any other belongings missing from her residence.

February 1, 2018

On February 2, a Brookline Park Ranger called to report a dog biting incident. The involved parties included two dogs and their owners. Both stated that their dogs were off-leash when they approached one another and sniffed around. Without provocation, one of the dogs bit the other. One of the involved parties stated that they did not believe the incident was based on aggression. After observing this happen, she notified the owner of the bitten dog and they exchanged information. Both dogs are licensed with the Town of Brookline and are up to date on their shots.

An officer responded to the area of 365 Boylston St. for a report of a possible hit and run on Thursday. The reporting party stated that upon stopping at a red light while traveling on Washington St., he observed a truck side-swipe the driver's side of his vehicle. He followed the vehicle, trying to gain the driver's attention, with no success. The reporting party believes that because a truck hit his car, that the driver did not notice the collision. Minor damage was noted on the rear panel of the vehicle.

On Thursday afternoon, an officer was dispatched to Heath St. for a report of a larceny. The victim reported that their wedding band had gone missing. It was brought to attention later that afternoon that it had been misplaced while the victim's bedroom was being cleaned and would be returned the next day. A follow-up has been requested.

On Wednesday, a man came into the station to report a past larceny. He told an officer that his bicycle had been taken from a stairwell on Beacon St. The victim reported seeing his bicycle last week. The case is active at this time.

On Tuesday January 30, an officer was dispatched to Freeman Street to take a larceny report. The victim stated that she had discovered some of her jewelry missing upon returning from a vacation she went on. This is an active case.

An officer was dispatched to Heath St. for a larceny report. The victim stated that he noticed cash missing from his wallet, which he had left on his desk, after taking a shower. There was nothing else missing from the scene. The case is active.

On Monday January 29, officers were dispatched to Harvard St. for a reported shoplifting. The caller stated that the suspect had attempted to shoplift 3 pairs of sneakers. When the caller confronted the suspect, he had dropped 2 of the 3 pairs and ran out of the store. The case is active.

Units were dispatched to Kent St. for a report of a package theft on Monday evening. An officer observed two packages upon arrival, one of them being ripped open with its contents missing. The caller said that when he walked into the building, he saw a man picking up packages in the vestibule. He realized moments later that the man never tried to enter the building. He called the police, suspecting this person was actually trying to steal these packages from the vestibule. This is an active case.

In the early morning hours of Tuesday January 30, an officer was dispatched to Newell Rd. for a report of a suspicious male walking around the reporting party’s residence. The reporting party told the officer that she was in the kitchen getting ready to take her dog outside when she observed a man, dressed in all black. She described that the man had crossed over to the rear of her property and then went on to travel down a set of stairs which lead to a basement door. After some time, she observed him come back up the set of stairs. She then banged on the kitchen window, which sent him fleeing down the driveway.

The reporting party then called Brookline dispatch. Brookline Units canvassed the area of Newell Rd. Due to the fresh snowfall, officers were able to determine the path the suspect had made from the reporting party’s residence. Officers followed the foot prints which headed towards Parson’s Field, located on Kent St. At this time, an officer heard noises coming from the bleachers. The officer came around to the front of the bleachers and observed a male, dressed in dark clothing, running across the field. The officers pursued the subject, as he crossed over the MBTA tracks and ran along the Muddy River, where he was eventually caught.

The suspect is a 29 year old man from Malden. The case is currently active.

On Friday, an officer was dispatched to Harvard St. for a report of a shoplifting. The caller had witnessed a man take a pair of shoes, hide them within his pants, and then proceed to exit the store. Units searched the area but were unable to find the suspect. The case is active.

On Saturday, an officer spoke to a business owner regarding a larceny. The victim stated that the opening manager had discovered cash and a credit card missing from the register on the morning of Monday, January 22. The case is active.

*Eversource Utility Scamming Incident*

On the afternoon of Saturday, January 27, an officer was dispatched to a business on Beacon St. for a report of larceny. The owner said that he had received a call on his business telephone from someone claiming to be an Eversource representative earlier that day. The representative told the victim that their bill was overdue and immediate payment was needed to ensure his electricity was not shut off. The victim was told by an account services representative to purchase pre-paid money cards, as they were unable to accept credit card payments over the phone. The representative stated that the pre-paid money cards he needed to purchase were called "Green Dot Money Pak". Once the cards were purchased, he was asked to call back to arrange for the payment of his overdue bill.

Fearing the impact this potential power outage may have during peak-business hours, the victim purchased multiple "Green Dot Money Pak" cards. Once returning to his business, he called the phone number provided by the account services representative and made the payment for the overdue electricity bill.

A couple of hours later, the victim received another phone call from Eversource stating that they had made a mistake and he still owed an additional, over-due balance. The victim was then advised to call another representative to make a second payment. With much concern, the victim hung up, knowing he had been scammed. He contacted the landlord who informed him that the electric bill is incorporated into his lease. The case is still active at this time.

They often pretend to be a representative of your provider, sometimes claiming that they will turn off your electricity or even threatening jail time as a means of receiving immediate payment. It is important to recognize the common signs of utility scams and the facts regarding your utility provider.

On the morning of January 25, an officer responded to Boylston St. for a report of an attempted larceny. The victim stated that he noticed marks around the ignition of his motorcycle that morning. When attempting to start the motorcycle, the keys would not turn in the ignition as it had appeared slightly damaged. This case is active.

On Thursday morning, officers stopped a man in Coolidge Corner for shoplifting. He was placed under arrest.

On Wednesday January 24, an officer was dispatched to a gym on Commonwealth Ave for a report of an attempted larceny. The victim reported that he had set his phone on top of a locker upon arriving at the gym, and then proceeded to the restroom. When returning, the victim realized that their phone was no longer above the locker. He asked two males within the locker room to borrow a phone as a means of locating his lost one. The first male stated that he did not have his phone on him, while the second male offered his cell phone to the victim. When calling his own cell phone, he heard it inside the backpack of the first male who claimed he did not have his phone on him at the time. The victim confronted the suspect and he gave the victim his cell phone back. The suspect then proceeded to exit the gym onto Commonwealth Ave. This case is active.

At approximately 4:03pm there was a report of an accidental discharge of a firearm on Naples Road. It was reported that a person getting out of a motor vehicle re-positioned a firearm he was carrying which caused it to accidentally discharge. The firearm discharged into an occupied dwelling and the owner of the firearm notified the residents of the accidental discharge. Police were notified and conducted an initial investigation. The owner of the firearm was fully cooperative and is properly licensed. The firearm owner surrendered his firearm license and the revolver he had discharged. Detectives are following up with the licensing authority on the issue.

On January 23 at approximately 8:45am, an officer witnessed a vehicle make an illegal left turn onto Beacon Street. The officer initiated a traffic stop and found that the driver had a suspended license. The vehicle was turned over to the passenger who had an active license and the driver will be summoned to court.

At approximately 5:04pm units responded to Chilton Street for a report of a stolen motor vehicle. An officer met with the owner and they searched the area, as it is common for owners to overlook the exact area they left their vehicle. While searching, the owner pointed out his vehicle operating towards the police cruiser on Essex St. with one occupant on board. The officer activated the overhead lights of the cruiser and the operator of the stolen vehicle attempted to speed away. The officer trailed the vehicle, and located it crashed against a curb on Worthington Rd. The driver was uninjured and was taken into custody. The driver, a juvenile, is being charged with Receiving Stolen a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Operation, Not Duly Licensed, Failure to Stop for a Police Officer, and One Way Violation.

At approximately 6:10pm an officer was dispatched to Heath St. for a report of a breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. The victim stated that he had parked his vehicle the night before and when he returned to it in the morning, he found both passenger doors wide open and the interior rummaged through. The victim reported nothing missing.

On Monday, an officer was dispatched to Harvard St. for a report of graffiti. The reporting party left their office the afternoon prior and did not notice anything on the office building and surrounding area. However, upon returning to their place of work on the morning of January 22, they observed fresh paint on a fence and rear wall of the building. There does not appear to be any security cameras in the area. The case is currently active.

On Monday evening, an officer was dispatched to Beacon St. for a report of a past license plate theft. The victim stated they had noticed their plate was missing that afternoon. The case is active and security is attempting to review more footage at this time.

On Friday, an officer was dispatched to Coolidge Corner for a report of shoplifting. The witness stated that the suspect stole three items of clothing. The case is active and video surveillance will be retrieved.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Beacon St and St Mary’s St. for a possible attempted larceny of property. The witness stated that they had observed what they believed to be someone trying to steal the tires off of a bicycle. Officers observed that the rear wheel had been unscrewed. The suspect will be summonsed to court.

On Sunday January 21, officers took a report of a past breaking and entering and larceny of a motor vehicle. The victim stated that they were parked on Brookline Ave. near the intersection of Netherlands Rd. at a metered space. Upon returning to the vehicle, the victim saw that the front passenger window was smashed. Personal belongings were stolen and miscellaneous items were strewn about the vehicle. A follow up has been requested and the case is currently active.

An officer responded to the intersection of Chapel St. and Longwood Ave. for a past breaking and entering and larceny of a motor vehicle. The victim had parked at a metered spot and upon returning found their passenger window had been smashed.  Their valuables had been taken from the front passenger’s seat. There is no surveillance footage from the area. The case is active.

On the morning of January 18, an officer responded to Center St. for a fraud report. The victim had been seeking out services to repair a computer through an online repair company. After the distribution of funds, the victim had been scammed. The case is still active.

                *Online scams regarding “pop-up alerts” are common nationwide. It is easy to accidentally become a victim of schemes, as such. If you receive a pop-up alert notifying you that your computer has a virus or receive phone calls, both in-person and automated, please hang up to protect your bank accounts.

During the afternoon, an officer was dispatched for a graffiti complaint. The caller advised the officer that this was not that first time they had seen this property tagged. Photographs of the tags were taken and a patrolling officer was advised of the damage.

An officer assisted with reporting a stolen license plate on the afternoon of January 18. The victim believes her front plate was stolen off of her vehicle on Village Way. A dispatcher entered the license plate as stolen. The case is active at this time.

An officer was dispatched to Francis St. for a report of a package theft. The victim stated that they had placed an order online and had received a confirmation e-mail that the package had been delivered. Upon arriving home, the victim noticed that her packages had been opened and its contents had been taken. It is uncertain if there are surveillance cameras in or around the building.

An officer was dispatched to Netherlands Rd. for a package theft the evening of January 18. The victims reported receiving a delivery notification but did not notice the package upon arriving home. In addition, the victims reported receiving another delivery notification for two more packages. When they had gone to retrieve them, they were no longer in the foyer. A follow-up is being requested for this case.

On Wednesday, officers responded to the area of Gorham/Greenough St. for a report of a package theft. The witness reported that they had seen a few young men take packages off of a front porch. The suspects then walked off. The witness yelled out to them to stop, in which they dropped the packages and ran. The case is currently active.

On Tuesday January 16, Brookline PD News Blog included a report of a stolen rental motor vehicle on Boylston St. that had not been returned. On Wednesday January 17, the rental vehicle was recovered in Connecticut. A follow-up will be made.

An officer responded to Boylston St. where a report of a stolen motor vehicle was made on January 16. The victim stated that the vehicle was a rental that had not been returned. A stolen motor vehicle report has been filed.

On January 16, a man came into Police Headquarters reporting that cash withdrawals had been made from his savings account. The case is active at this time.

On the afternoon of January 16, patrolling officers observed and photographed graffiti spray painted at various locations. At this time, it is unknown when these tags were placed. The Parks Department has been contacted for their removal.

A package theft report was made at the Police Station during the early evening of January 16. The victim stated that she placed an order for a television on January 3 and had received a confirmation e-mail when it had been delivered later that week. The victim could not find the package when going to check for it. The case is active.

On the morning of January 15, an officer was dispatched to Chestnut St. for a malicious damage report. Upon arrival, the officer was informed about an ongoing tenant dispute with a family in a different unit. The victim reports that she had gone to her vehicle that day and found a burn mark on the hood of her car which appeared to be from a cigarette. Video surveillance is being requested.

On January 15, an officer was dispatched to St. Paul Street for a report of a past breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. The victim reports that when she had come out to her car earlier in the morning, the interior had been ransacked. It appeared that nothing had been stolen from the car or that there were any signs of forced entry. The case is active at this time.

During the evening of January 15, an officer responded to the Beacon St. area for a possible stolen motor vehicle. Upon arrival, victim stated that they had started their car parked on the rear end of the building in which they work. After briefly returning inside, they had come back out to find that their push-to-start vehicle was no longer in their parking spot. A report has been filed.

On January 10, an officer was dispatched to Walnut St. for a past Larceny of a Motor Vehicle report. The victim stated that his vehicle had been stolen from his driveway on 1/9 at approximately 23:45 hrs. The victim stated that he had left his keys inside the center console and had failed to lock the doors. The incident is under investigation.

At approximately 14:30 hrs, an officer responded to a parking lot on Beacon St. for an accident involving a pedestrian. The victim stated he was working as a parking attendant and had just closed the lot when a vehicle attempted to enter via the exit lane. The victim told the driver that the lot was full and she needed to back up. The driver began to yell that a spot was open and the victim once again stated that she could not proceed. At this time, the vehicle entered the lot and made contact with the victim’s leg. The victim yelled for the driver to stop but she did not and instead made contact with the victim’s legs again. The victim was not seriously injured and did not wish to pursue the matter. The driver will be summoned to court for A & B with a dangerous weapon.

An officer was dispatched to Kent St. for a past larceny. The reporting party stated that on 1/8 at approximately 20:00 hrs, she had arrived home and noticed three packages delivered for her in the secured vestibule. When the reporting party went back to collect her packages on 1/10, they were gone.

A man came into the police station to report a package theft. The man stated that his package was confirmed as delivered at 18:14 hrs but was not there when he went to retrieve it at 19:00 hrs.

An officer was dispatched to Walnut St. for a report of a past breaking and entering and larceny of a motor vehicle. The reporting party stated that she had parked her vehicle unlocked in her driveway at approximately 20:00 hrs on 1/9. When the woman returned at approximately 7:30 hrs on 1/10, she observed several items removed from the center console. The incident is being investigated.

An officer was dispatched to Kent St. for a report of suspicious activity. The officer located a package that had been ripped open and the contents removed. On 1/12 the officer was able to make contact with the intended recipient who confirmed that the package had been stolen from his residence on Kent St. on January 7^th.

At approximately 00:28 hrs, an officer was dispatched to Harvard St. for a motor vehicle accident. The officer was approached by two Lyft drivers who stated they were waiting for their next fare when a vehicle entered the lot and sideswiped one of their vehicles as well as another parked car. The officer approached the stopped vehicle and could smell an odor of alcohol emanating from the driver. The driver had difficulty turning off her vehicle and the officer could observe slurred speech and red glassy eyes. The driver was placed under arrest for Operating under the Influence of Liquor.

A man came into the police station to report a stolen package. The man stated that two packages had been delivered to him from 12/25-1/7, the first had been ripped open with nothing taken and the second had been ripped open with all of the contents removed.

An officer responded to Beech Rd. for a possible bat exposure. The reporting party stated that he and his wife had noticed a bat flying around their home earlier and when he went to capture it, it escaped and flew up to the second floor. The reporting party is working with Critter Control to remove the bat.

Officers responded to Commonwealth Av. to assist with a fight that had just been broken up. One of the victims stated that she and her friend had gone to the bathroom when an unknown male slapped her friend on the buttocks. When they told their male friends they went to confront the guy who then pushed them and threatened to fight if they didn’t leave. When they attempted to leave, they were followed outside by a group of males who then attacked them and stole one victim’s messenger bag. The assailants fled before police showed up. There were no serious injuries. The incident is under investigation.

On January 8, an officer was dispatched to a store on Harvard St. for a report of shoplifting. The reporting party stated that they had observed two men place clothing items into a backpack and attempting to leave the store. Stopping them before exiting, the reporting party asked them to stay until BPD arrived on scene. Both parties will be summoned to court.

On January 9, a vehicle was traveling west-bound on RT 9 where they hit another vehicle while attempting to change into the right-travel lane. The original vehicle then turned back to the left travel lane where a taxi was also hit. The operator was issued a citation.

On the evening of January 9, an officer was dispatched to Ivy St. for a report of breaking and entering a motor vehicle. The reporting party stated that when they went to use the vehicle, an item usually kept in the center console was on the driver’s seat. Some money and change had been stolen. The case is still active at this time.

1/4/2018 through 1/7/2018

On January 4, an officer was dispatched to Toxeth St. for a report of a larceny. The reporting party stated that she realized her bike was missing during the early evening hours of January 1. She stated that the bike was stowed behind a vestibule door which is usually secure. The reporting party noted that the door may have been propped open by her neighbors.

On January 4, an officer was dispatched to Toxeth St for the report of a package theft. The reporting party was unable to locate a package that had been delivered.

On January 5, the Brookline Animal Control Line received a call reporting a bat was in the bedroom of a residence on Park St. The reporting party stated that she and her husband were asleep and awakened by the sound of scratching on their bedroom wall. They discovered an active bat when they turned on the lights. It had flown out of the bedroom and they were unable to locate it. The responding officer located, captured, and transported the bat to Angel Memorial Animal Hospital. It was then taken to the Massachusetts Department of Public health to be submitted for rabies testing. It was later indicated that the test results came back negative.

On January 7, an officer responded to Beacon St for a minor property damage accident involving a town vehicle. The driver stated that while parking, he started to back up to give the vehicle in front some space that was also backing up. In doing so, he went too far backwards and made contact with an unoccupied, parked car. There was minor damage to the parked car and no visible damage to the town vehicle. There were no injuries and paperwork was exchanged.

In the evening of January 7, an officer was dispatched to St Paul St. for a recent breaking and entering and larceny from a motor vehicle report. The reporting party had parked his car to unload groceries and went inside his home. He had returned to his car and while approaching observed contents from the center console all over the passenger’s seat. He also observed an item in the car that did not belong to him. The reporting party believed the car was unlocked during that time frame. The case is active at this time.

While conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Coolidge Corner, an officer observed a vehicle make an illegal right on red onto Beacon Street. The officer initiated a traffic stop and found that the driver had an active warrant in his name. The driver was placed under arrest without incident.

At approximately 19:08 hours, officers were dispatched to a business on Harvard St. for a report of recent shoplifting. The reporting party stated that a male party had become uncooperative while picking up his medication and had fled the store without paying. A warrant is being requested for his arrest.

An officer was dispatched to St. Paul St. for a report of a package theft. The reporting party stated that when she arrived home at approximately 18:00 hours, she was unable to locate her package which had been reported as delivered at 17:32 hours. 

12/26/2017 through 1/1/2018

On December 28, an officer was dispatched to a business on Harvard St. for a report of shoplifting. The reporting party stated that an unknown female had entered the store and left with merchandise without paying. The incident is under investigation.

In the evening of December 28, officers responded to Beacon St. for an activated fire alarm. It was determined that the fire originated from the basement boiler. The fire caused no structural damage and was unoccupied at the time. There were no injuries.

On December 30, an officer was dispatched to a residence on Linden Ct. for a report of a past breaking and entering. The reporting party stated that they had been on vacation from 12/22-12/29 and when they returned the front door was unlocked and items were out of place. Officers observed pry marks on the front door. Multiple items including electronics and jewelry were reported stolen.

On December 31 an officer was dispatched to St. Paul St. for a report of a package theft. The reporting party stated that when he arrived home he found that the package he was expecting had been ripped open and the contents removed.

Officers responded to a building on Babcock St. for a report of a building fire. Brookline Fire was already on scene with the residents evacuated. The building was deemed uninhabitable and the cause of the fire is undetermined. There were no injuries reported.

Early on January 1, officers were dispatched to a business on Beacon St. for a report of shoplifting. The reporting party stated they had observed a female enter the store and conceal merchandise in her purse. The employee stopped the woman before she could leave. A check of the woman’s criminal history showed that she had an active warrant in effect. The woman was placed under arrest.

December 22^nd 9:40AM an officer on patrol on Harvard Street conducted a registration check on a vehicle. The registry indicated there was an arrest warrant for the registered owner. A stop was conducted and it was confirmed the owner was driving the vehicle. The owner was placed under arrest to face the charges on the warrant.

December 22^nd Police received a report of a past dog incident at Amory Park. It was reported that on December 19^th at 7:50AM one dog bit another dog. This mater is under investigation.

December 22^nd 12:46PM A two car crash at the intersection of St. Paul Street and Browne St. No injuries. One operator was cited for a Stop Sign violation and having an expired registration.

December 22^nd 4:46PM A two car crash at 306 Harvard Street. One vehicle rear ended another in traffic. No injuries. The operator found at fault was cited for following two closely and not having a driver’s license.

December 24^th 2:11AM a single car crash at Grove Street and Walnut Hill Road. The vehicle struck a crosswalk sign and a telephone pole. No injuries.

December 24^th 9:30AM A two car crash at Kent Street and Longwood Av. No injuries, one operator was cited for a red light violation.

December 24^th 2:36PM officers responded to a business in Coolidge Corner for a past shoplifting report. The store staff indicated they saw a women place items in her bag. They approached the woman and asked if she needed help, she said no. She then turned over some items she was holding. The woman then exited a short time later. A review of security video showed the woman had placed other items in some bags she was carrying before she left the store. This mater is under investigation.

December 18-21

December 18^th at 10:40AM an officer was in the area of 264 Harvard Street. They stopped a vehicle for a red light violation. The operator was found to have an expired driver’s license. The operator was cited for both traffic infractions and the vehicle was turned over to a licensed driver.

December 18^th A resident from High Street came to the station to report they had malicious damage done to their home. The stated on an earlier date, December 5^th at 10:30PM they heard a noise and when they investigated they saw a BB hole in their front sliding door.

December 18^th 6:51PM officers responded to a store in Coolidge Corner.  Staff reported a male and a female had been walking around the store for a while. When asked if they needed help one subject fled with a bag of children’s clothes. The second subject left shortly after. The staff later estimated the cost of the clothing was over $400.00

December 19^th The Pierce school called to report a past graffiti incident. They had already cleaned up and made the proper notifications. This matter is under investigation.

December 19^th 5:05 PM an officer was at the intersection of Cypress and Washington Streets. They observed a vehicle in front of them with an expired registration sticker. The vehicle was stopped and the investigation led to the car being towed. The operator was cited for a having an unregistered vehicle.

December 19^th at 12:15 PM officers responded to Clearance and Coolidge Streets. A single car crash, the vehicle ran off the road into a tree and then struck a parked car. The operator was taken to a local hospital. The crash is under investigation.

December 20^th 8:20AM officers took a report from a lower Beacon street resident. They indicated they had a package stolen from their front foyer. This matter is under investigation.

December 20^th 11:15AM officers took a report from an Egmont Street resident. They indicated they had a package stolen from their front foyer. This matter is under investigation.

December 20^th 1:10AM officers responded to a business on Beacon Street. The restaurant had a patron walk out without paying. This matter is under investigation.

December 21^st 12:19 AM an officer took a fraud report. A resident from Green Street reported getting a call from 857-216-7233. The investigation led the victim to believe it to be a scam where the caller solicits personnel information. The matter is under investigation.

December 21^st 6:00PM officers went to a residence on Davis Ave. The resident stated they had some damage done to a front window. The window by the front door had been broken. It is unknown if someone made an attempt to gain entry. This matter is under investigation.

Bitcoin Scam

Please be advised this is a SCAM! Residents in Brookline and surrounding areas have recieved scam letters demanding large sums of bitcoin or their "secrets" will be revealed. If you recieve one of these scam letters please report it to police immediately!

An officer was dispatched to Marshall St for a report of a stolen package. The reporting party stated that they had located an open and empty package on the sidewalk. Officers reached out to the recipient of the package who confirmed it had been stolen.

An officer responded to Harvard St for a package theft. The reporting party stated that their package had been confirmed as delivered but when she went to retrieve it, the box was empty.

12/15/2017

An officer responded to Parkway Rd for a past larceny report. The reporting party stated that her package had been confirmed as delivered on 12/11 but she never received it.

Officers were dispatched to Beacon St for a report of a traffic crash involving a vehicle that had struck two parked cars. Dispatch alerted responding officers that the operator may be intoxicated and had fled the scene towards the Centre St lot. Officers located the male party on Babcock St. Officers observed that he had glassy and blood shot eyes and a strong odor of alcohol was emanating from him. The man was placed under arrest for Operating under the influence of alcohol and Leaving the scene—Property damage.

At approximately 11:35pm officers were dispatched to Walnut Hill Rd for a report of a burglary. The reporting parties stated that when they arrived home they found several items missing and the home ransacked. The incident is under investigation.

12/17/2017

An officer was dispatched to Village Way for a report of a package theft. The reporting party stated that when she went to retrieve her package from the lobby, the package had been ripped open and the contents were missing.

While conducting traffic enforcement near South St and West Roxbury Parkway, an officer observed a vehicle drive through a red light. The officer conducted a traffic stop and found that the driver had a suspended license. The driver was placed under arrest for Operating after Suspension and Failure to Stop—Red light.

An officer was dispatched to Fairmount Rd for a report of a burglary. The reporting party stated that he had been out of town from 12/14-12/17 and when he returned he found that several drawers had been gone through. The incident is being investigated.

12/13/2017

On December 13 at approximately 13:13hrs officers were dispatched to a residence on Gibbs St. for a report of a past breaking and entering. The reporting party stated that she and the other residents had left around 8:30hrs and locked the front the door. When she returned around 12:45hrs, the woman stated that the apartment door was unlocked and she noticed the bathroom and bedroom windows were open and one of the outside screens had been raised up. At the scene, officers found that the front door had been pried open with an instrument of some sort. Multiple items including laptops and jewelry were reported missing. The incident is under investigation.

At approximately 13:50hrs, officers were dispatched to a Harvard St. business for a report of shoplifting. Employees reported seeing a woman enter the store and fill a reusable shopping bag with numerous items before placing some directly in her purse. As the woman went to leave, the employees confronted her and she threw the bag of merchandise at them and fled. Officers located a woman matching the description and the employee was able to verify her identity. The woman was placed under arrest for Shoplifting Subsequent Offense.

On December 13, a man came into the police station to report a package theft. The man stated that his package was confirmed as delivered at 13:09hrs yet it was not there at 17:00hrs.

An officer was dispatched to Alton Pl for a report of a package theft. The reporting party stated that a package had been confirmed as delivered to her the day before yet she never received it.

At approximately 23:00hrs an officer was dispatched to Pond Ave. for a report of malicious damage to a motor vehicle. The reporting party stated that she had parked her car around 16:00hrs and when she returned at 22:40hrs, her front passenger window had been smashed and a rock was found inside. The reporting party stated that nothing was missing.

On December 11 at approximately 12:44hrs officers were dispatched for a an incident of shoplifting that had just occurred on Commonwealth Ave. The store manager stated that he had observed a woman come into the store and browse for almost two hours. The manager stated that the woman put on a shawl and attempted to leave the store without paying at which point he confronted her and she fled. Officers located a woman matching the description and the store manager was able to confirm her identity. The woman is being summoned to court for Shoplifting under $50.

12/12/2017

On December 12, officers responded to a residence on Prince St for a past breaking and entering report. The resident stated they had left the apartment at 745hrs in the morning and returned at 1315hrs finding the backdoor ajar. The resident reported a laptop and jewelry missing. The incident is under investigation. Officers were later dispatched to another residence on Prince St. for another breaking and entering report. The resident stated she had been gone from 1000hrs to 1900hrs and when she returned, her top lock was damaged and the apartment was in disarray. Nothing was reported missing at the time.

At approximately 1455hrs officers were dispatched to Brook St. for a past breaking and entering report. The reporting party stated that she had left her apartment at 1100hrs and returned at 1450hrs and found the apartment in disarray. The woman reported several items missing. Officers located a possible marking from a pry tool on the inside foyer door. The incident is under investigation. At approximately 2330hrs, officers responded to another residence on Brook St for a breaking and entering report. The resident stated she had been gone from approximately 1000hrs on 12/8 until 2030hrs 12/12. Several items including jewelry and a computer monitor were reported stolen. Pry marks were located on the buildings outside door and foyer door.

Officers were dispatched to Washington St. for a past breaking and entering report. The residents stated that they had been gone from 0700hrs to 1815hrs and noticed the front door ajar when they returned. The back door was also found slightly open and the apartment front door had damage around the lock. Multiple items were reported missing. The incident is being investigated. Officers were later dispatched to another residence on Washington St. for a breaking and entering report. The residents stated that they had been gone from 0800-1915hrs and when they returned they found the back door to the balcony open. Multiple items were reported missing. There was no clear indication of the point of entry.

At approximately 1945hrs, officers responded to Harvard St for a report of a shoplifter. The employee stated she had seen an elderly female enter the store with multiple bags and try to leave with items concealed in them. The employee stated she confronted the woman and asked her to pay for the items at which point she set down the bags and left the store. Inside the bags, officers found several shoplifted items from the business as well as numerous items that did not come from that store, including other items with tags still on. The business was advised to contact police if the suspect enters the store again.

At approximately 2243hrs an officer was dispatched to Sewall Av for a report of package thefts. The reporting party stated that three packages had been confirmed as delivered that day yet when he went to retrieve them they were gone.

12/8/2017 through 12/10/2017

On 12-7-2017 a citizen arrived at the Brookline Police Station to report malicious damage to his vehicle. The victim reports parking  his vehicle on Harvard Ave, and when he returned to his vehicle he observed what appeared to be a milkshake spilled all over the hood of his vehicle. The victim does not have any problems with anyone in the neighborhood. 

On 12/08/2017, Officers responded to a motor vehicle crash at Boylston Street and Dunster Road. The driver reports he was traveling west on Boylston Street when he swerved and lost control of his vehicle crashing into the fence on the property of the Longwood Cricket Club. No injuries reported and the driver was cited for Marked Lane Violation.

On Friday, 12/08/17, a citizen entered the Brookline Police Station to report that a package delivered to him by Fed-Ex had been stolen from the foyer of his building located on Beacon Street. He was notified by Fed-Ex that the package had been delivered and when he went to the foyer of his building to retrieve it, the package was no longer there. He stated that there are no security cameras in the foyer. A report has been filed.

On Friday, 12/08/17, a citizen entered the Brookline Police Station to report a package theft from the lobby of her building located on Sewall Ave. No security cameras available. A report has been filed.

On 12-08-2017 Officers responded to Boylston St at Warren St for a 3 car motor vehicle crash with no reported injuries. All 3 drivers denied having injuries and declined medical attention. 1 vehicle was towed from the scene.

On 12/8/17 Officers responded to a business on Beacon St. for a shoplifting in progress.  Brookline Police Dispatch informed officers that employees were following the alleged shoplifter on Harvard St. (northbound) on foot when the subject took a right onto Green St.  The subject was described as a male, thin build, wearing a black hat, black leather jacket, jeans and carrying a brown Trader Joes shopping bag.  While responding to Green St., Brookline Control informed officers that the unknown male party was on Green St. After an investigation it was learned that the subject had stolen 2 bottles of wine. The subject will be summoned into Brookline District Court for Shoplifting MGL Ch. 266/30A - first offense.  A Criminal Complaint application was filed.

On December 8th, 2017, Officers responded to an address on Washington St for a report of a package theft. The victim reports returning home to find their package had been opened and gone through. The contents of the package had been removed. A report was filed.

On 12-08-2017, Officers responded to an address on Winthrop Rd. for a past residential breaking and entering. It appeared that the bedrooms were the targets. A report was filed and a follow-up will be conducted by Brookline detectives.

On 12-08-2017 Officers responded to an address on Winthrop Rd. for a past breaking and entering. It is believed that the suspect removed the air conditioner from a rear window, which is located near the rear porch as a means to gain entry. The bedroom and closet were the targets of the suspect. Detectives arrived on scene to process for finger prints.

On 12/8/2017 Officers responded to the area of 1600 Beacon Street for a report of a traffic crash.  The driver reported when she attempted to brake for a pedestrian crossing the street, her vehicle was rear-ended. One party complained of neck pain but declined an ambulance. One operator was issued a Mass. Uniform Citation for Following Too Closely (TBL Art.7 sec.4)

On 12/09/17 Officers responded to an address on Beacon St. for a report of a missing person.  The missing person is described as a female, 72 y.o.a, 5'07", 130 lb., slender build, brownish grey hair, brown hair.  Unknown clothing description.

On Saturday December 9, 2017 Officers were dispatched to Winchester St for a traffic crash with a vehicle into a pole. The road conditions on this date were snow and ice. No injuries reported and 1 vehicle was towed.

On 12/9/2017 Officers responded to the intersection of Sumner Rd. and Clark for a two car accident with airbag deployment and unknown injuries. Upon arrival all parties were out of their respective cars and only one person was claiming injury. One operator stated he was traveling straight ahead when he realized too late that the vehicle in front of him was stopped and turning left. As he hit his brakes he skidded on the snow into the right side of the vehicle and then into a tree on the right side of the road. There was heavy damage to the front end of the vehicle. One vehicle was towed from the scene.

On 12/9/2017 Officers responded to Davis Ave. on reports that a town tree branch had fallen onto a car. Upon arrival with the 551 Sgt. O' Neill, we observed a large tree branch on top of a vehicle making a large dent into the top of the vehicle and breaking the front windshield.  An extending branch off of the larger one had broken the rear windshield of the vehicle in front of it as well.  . Photos were taken and the branch was removed by Brookline Forestry, and both vehicles were towed.

On 12-9-2017, a citizen came to the Brookline Police Station to report a package theft. The victim reports the package was taken from his business on Davis Ave. A report was filed.

Officers responded to a residence on St. Paul St. for a report of a package theft. The reporting party stated that packages had been delivered but where gone when she went to retrieve them. A report was filed.

12-07-2017

On 12-07-2017 , while  conducting traffic enforcement at the intersection of High St. and Boylston St. Officers were approached by a citizen to report suspicious activity. The citizen reported  that a man exited a  car carrying a large black hand gun in his hand and was  walking towards on Webster Street.  A description was provided and Officers were able to locate the subject in question. After speaking with the subject it was determine that there was no weapon in his possession and he was sent on his way.

On 12-6-17 Offices responded  to a business  on Beacon St. on reports of a shoplifting.  The subject was still in the store when Officers arrived. After an investigation the subject was advised that he will be summonsed into Brookline District Court for: Shoplifting  266:30A.

On 12-6-2017 Officers responded to an address on Browne St for a fraud report. The victim reports receiving alerts on her phone about Amazon purchases. Upon learning this she immediately cancelled her credit card. A report has been filed.

On 12/06/2017 Officers responded to Washington/Boylston Street for a traffic crash. No injuries were reported and no vehicle were towed.  

On December 6, 2017 Officers responded to an address on High St for a reported package theft.

The victim reports ordering a 55 inch Samsung 4K television online. And that the delivery notice says it was delivered to the lobby of his building.  Officers will look into surveillance footage to see if the can figure out who took the TV.

Impatient Thieves Arrested for Stealing Package from Delivery Van

On December 6, at approximately 9:50am an officer observed two male subjects in the area of Fairbanks Rd. and Washington St. The officer observed the men walking up and down Washington St. and conversing. The officer briefly lost sight of the men and continued down Washington St. where she noticed a white, unmarked van. The van was pulled over and the driver appeared to be making a delivery across the street. At this time the officer observed the subjects, Suspect 1 standing by the open front passenger door of the van, and Suspect 2 standing a few feet to the rear of the van. Suspect 1 was then observed closing the van door and walking towards Brookline Village with a brown box that he did not previously have. The officer stopped the men for a field interview at which point Suspect 1 no longer had the box. More officers arrived on scene and a brown box was located at the base of a tree nearby. Both men denied having anything to do with the van or package. The delivery van driver was able to confirm that the package found on the ground was one that he had yet to deliver. Both men were placed under arrest for Breaking & Entering of a Motor Vehicle and Larceny of Property Under $250.

On December 4, a man came into the Police lobby to report a past assault & battery. The victim stated that while working on 12/2 at a residence on Allandale Rd. a coworker came towards him with a weed whacker. The victim stated that the weed whacker was running and his coworker thrust it towards his face striking him once before the victim knocked it away. The victim reported that the suspect then swung the weed whacker around and hit the victim on the other side of his face with the engine. At this time, a third party stepped in to subdue the suspect. Witnesses confirmed the victim’s story and the suspect was placed under arrest for Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon.

An officer responded to Beacon St. for a report of a bicycle theft. The reporting party stated that she was sitting in a vehicle on Beacon St. when she observed two males pacing back and forth on the sidewalk near two bikes locked to a pole. The woman stated the males then pulled a pair of bolt cutters from a backpack and cut the locks on both bikes. The reporting party exited her car and yelled at the suspects who then fled down Beacon St. and took a right onto Charles St.  The incident is under investigation.

Officers responded to Elm St. for a report of a breaking & entering and larceny from a building. The victim stated that he had left home at approximately 7:30am that morning and when he returned at 5:30pm the apartment was in disarray and several items were missing. Officers believe entry was made via the rear stairwell and rear door. The incident is under investigation.

An officer responded for a bicycle theft which had occurred on Sewall Ave. The victim stated that she had locked her bike to a meter and that it was stolen between 2pm and 9:30pm. Both the bike and lock were gone.

12/5/2017

An officer was dispatched to Harvard St. for a larceny report. The victim stated that a package which was meant to be delivered to her the day before was stolen.

On December 5 a man came into the Police Department to report malicious damage to his motor vehicle. The victim stated that his car had been parked on Beacon St. from 12:30-12:45pm and when he came back his car had been keyed.

An officer was dispatched to Boylston St. for a larceny report. The victim stated that her phone had been stolen from the locked break room at her work the day before. She stated that it went missing between 12:30pm and 2:45pm.

Officers responded to Hammond St. and Laurel Rd. for a report of an Assault & Battery. The victim stated that she does transports for a company that supports individuals with with substance abuse problems. She reported that she had picked up a male subject on Hyde Park Av.  in Roslindale who appeared under the influence of alcohol. The victim stated that when they reached the Horace James Circle, the suspect became enraged and grabbed the victim’s hair, yanking her head back and striking her face. Officers located the suspect and he was placed under arrest for A & B on an Elderly Person and for an active arrest warrant.

An officer was dispatched to Kent St. for a larceny report. The reporting party stated that she never received a package which was confirmed as delivered.

An officer responded to Vernon St. for a stolen package report. The victim stated that a package was confirmed as delivered on November 30, but he never received it.

An officer took a report of a past breaking and entering and larceny from a motor vehicle. The victim stated that he had parked his vehicle on Walnut St. on December 4, and sometime between 9:30-11:00am someone broke in and stole his wallet.

An officer responded to a residence on Beacon St. for a report of a package theft. The reporting party stated that her package had been confirmed as delivered on December 1 yet she never received it.

The Grinch Who Almost Stole Christmas

On Tuesday 12/5 Officers responded to the area of Pleasant St. and Parkman St. for a report of suspicious activity, a male throwing an empty package box over a fence. A witness flagged down an officer and pointed out the vehicle of the suspect, parked on Parkman St. The witness stated that he had seen a Hispanic male wearing a black jacket and orange hat walk up to the courtyard of one of the buildings.  Officers located the suspect who stated that he was in the area looking to pick up free items left out for trash. The suspect told officers that they could look inside his car. Officers retrieved the empty package boxes in order to determine if the suspect was in possession of any of the contents. Inside the driver’s side door was a receipt and the matching clothing was located in the suspect’s trunk. These items were later linked to one of the open packages. Also located in the trunk were 4 drapes, 4 bottles of shampoo & conditioner, and 4 Disney watches. All of these items were matched to stolen packages in the area. The suspect was arrested for Larceny over $250, Larceny under $250, Receiving Stolen Property over $250 and Receiving Stolen Property under $250. After his arrest the suspect admitted to taking the items from the packages. He also stated that he has come to Brookline in the past to find valuables that have been left out as trash. The suspect claimed to have Facebook and Craigslist accounts where he sells the items he finds.

Arrest Made In Home Break In

Arrest made in a home break in yesterday.

Yesterday the department received a call from a Chestnut Place resident. The resident claimed a subject had just broken into their home. The resident sated they heard noises coming from inside the home. They stepped into their hall way and encountered a male subject. The subject fled, taking a laptop. A description was given out and the subject was stopped on Chestnut Street still carrying the laptop he had stolen from the house.  As the investigation progressed it was found the subject had tried to break into another home on Chestnut Place. The subject was arrested and charged with one count of Breaking and Entering and one count of Attempted Breaking and Entering.

Yesterday another break in was reported on Elm Street. The residents reported they returned home at 5:30PM they found their home broken into and two laptops had been taken.

Last week on November 27, we had a reported attempted break in on Roberts Street. It appears the residents were home at that time. No entry was gained but an obvious attempt at the door lock.

Last week on November 27 we had a reported break in on St. Paul Street. The resident came home to find their residence had been broken into and a laptop had been taken.

At this time we cannot clear all these prior cases with the arrest of yesterday’s subject. These cases are still under investigation. We ask people be observant of anything suspicious and call us. Try to keep laptops and other valuables out of sight from public view.
