Tuesday, August 7th

6:45 PM- An officer was dispatched to Thorndike Street for a report of a past larceny.  The reporting party stated that her laptop had been taken from her bedroom.  She reported that she left her home on August 2^nd around 6:00 AM to go on a trip.  She believed she left her laptop on her bed plugged into her laptop’s charger.  When she returned home on August 7^th around 1:30 AM she discovered her laptop was missing.  She was sure that she did not take the laptop with her on her trip and claimed she looked everywhere for it when she returned.  The officer spoke to the roommate that was home who informed him that on August 3^rd she had a social gathering in her and the complainants apartment.  There had been between fifteen and twenty people in the apartment between 9:30 PM and 12:30 AM.  She did not know everyone at the party.  The roommate claimed to have closed her roommate’s door which was left unlocked.  She does not recall seeing anyone enter the bedroom.  Alcohol was a component in the gathering so the focus was not on ensuring the bedroom remained unoccupied by the guests.  This case is being investigated.

Monday, August 6th

1:30 PM- Animal control responded to a report of a dog bite that occurred on 8/3/18 on the corner of Bonad and Asheville Road.  The reporting party stated that she was walking her dog when she noticed another dog walker with a dog.  She began to walk away.  The approaching dog walker told her that his dog was friendly and continued to approach her and her dog.  He gave both his dog and hers treats.  When he gave a treat to her dog, his dog attacked hers.  No injuries were observed at first but when owner of the attacked dog got home, she noticed a laceration on her dog’s chest.  The other dog walker in the incident confirmed the claims when contacted and stated that his dog has not done this before.  The dog walker was cited for injuring another domestic animal.

2:55 PM- An officer responded to Heath Street for a larceny report.  The caller told the officer that she removed her jewelry on Tuesday the 31^st to prepare for an appointment.  She left her jewelry in her apartment for safe keeping.  When she went to put on her jewelry the following morning she could not locate it.  She continued to search for it until 8/6/18 when she reported the items missing.  The officer tried to help the caller look around her apartment in case she misplaced the items but they did not find them.  This case is under investigation.

Saturday, August 4th

1:19 PM- An officer responded to a call regarding a larceny on Hammond Pond Parkway. 
The caller explained to the officer on scene that around 12:00 PM she was looking through her drawer in her bedroom and noticed it seemed a “little empty”.  Upon looking around she noticed jewelry missing.  These findings led her to inspect her closet.  There she noticed items were moved around.  Her office had been tampered with as well.  The item taken from her office contained personal information regarding her accounts.  The caller looked throughout the rest of the apartment and found no other items to be missing or moved.  After inquiry the officer was made aware that no one else had keys to the apartment besides management or maintenance but, they had not stopped by recently. 
This case is under investigation.

5:35 PM- A report was made on several bicycle thefts occurring to the same Brookline resident.

The first bicycle theft occurred on 7/8/18 to 7/9/18. A blue children’s bicycle was stolen from the reporting party’s front walkway.  The bicycle was unlocked.

The second bicycle theft occurred between the overnight hours of 7/28/18 into 7/29/18.  A blue Giant brand adult bicycle and grey Giant brand adult bicycle were stolen from the caller’s front walkway.  The bikes were locked to each other but not to an immovable object.    

The third bicycle theft occurred in the late evening to overnight hours of 8/1/18 into 8/2/18.  A 2016 silver Raleigh Cadent 2 adult bicycle was stolen from the reporting party’s backyard.  The bicycle and gate leading to the backyard were both unlocked. 

6:00 PM- An officer was dispatched to Highland Road for a report of a theft of a license plate.  The caller stated that he noticed his license plate was missing from the front of his vehicle on 8/4/18 but does not recall the last instance when he saw the plate on the vehicle.  This case is under investigation.

August 2, 2018

2:12 PM

Officers were dispatched to a business on Harvard Street for a past shoplifting report.  The manager stated that several items were taken by a known female shoplifter.  The manager stated that at 12:42 PM a female came in and began to shoplift numerous items of clothing including shirts, hats, backpacks, and flip flops. A total value of approximately $216.00 

After a review of the video surveillance the female party is seen walking through the store and picking up items along the way.  A store employee talks with her and takes back some items that they observed her taking, but she returns to the isles and removes more clothing items before she leaves the store at 12:55 PM.  The party is described as a black female, late teens to twenties, with shoulder length braided black hair that was tied up.  She was wearing a white stripped short sleeve shirt and jean shorts. The manager stated she was unfamiliar with the party, but that other employees recognized her from prior shoplifting events several months back. The police are investigating.

August 3, 2018

3:44 AM

An Officer was working a paid detail and was assigned to the intersection of Amory and Dummer Streets for the overnight Commonwealth Avenue Bridge Project.

The Officer noticed a male party rummaging through a blue vehicle parked on Amory Street. The Officer noticed that it was not the same person who had parked the car there some hours earlier. Previously, when the vehicle was parked, the Officer observed the operator to be an older male who was working at the Bridge Project. He now observed a younger male rummaging through the vehicle. The male then exited the car holding a white cable car charger. He then began walking to Dummer Street, and then taking a right in the direction of Saint Paul Street. The Officer followed the male party and stopped him. During a field interview the male stated that it was his car, however he could not produce keys, or any proof that he owned the motor vehicle. A short time later the male stated that his charger was not working, and when he saw the charger inside the car; he just took it. The suspect was arrested for Breaking and Entering in the Night time. 

Wednesday, August 1st

8:00 AM- A bat call was made to the Brookline Police Department expressing a bat siting on Tappan Street.  The caller explained to the responding officer that on the morning of 8/1/18 around 12:30 AM she was awakened by the sound of something flying.  When she rose and turned on the lights she discovered a bat.  She explained that she used a container and captured it.  Animal Control came to the residence and transported the bat to a lab for testing.  This case is closed.

Tuesday, July 31st

An officer responded to Harvard Street for a report of a package theft.  The reporting party stated that she ordered a package which had been delivered on 7/30/18 at 1:50 PM.  The package was placed in the vestibule of the residence.  The spouse of the reporting party told officers, when he arrived shortly after 4:00 PM he found the package ripped open and the contents removed.  The neighbors had handled the package as well, placing it in the vestibule.  Police are pursuing further inquiry.

Officers reported to Amory Park pursuant to an animal disturbance incident that occurred on 6/23/18 and calls regarding it, following the incident.  The delay in an investigation immediately following the incident was due to a lack of compliance on behalf of the dog owner whose dog made aggressive advances.  The incident involved two persons and their dogs.  A park intern witnessed a dog of Boxer breed pounce on top of another dog of Lab Retriever and Boxer breed mix.  The park intern and numerous dog owners were present when the matter occurred.  The dog owner of the canine aggressor rushed over toward the two dogs and retrieved his dog.  The park intern approached the aggressor’s owner who presented to be uncooperative.  No bites or injuries were reported.  After being briefed on the situation, an officer spoke with the victim’s owner who claimed the other dog attacked her dog five times prior to the reported incident.  No reports were made of these priors and after conducting a system search it was found that the canine aggressor had no record of attacks or biting’s.  The complainant claimed the other dog is aggressive and should not be allowed in the dog program.  She also claimed that there are other victims of attacks by the supposed dog.  After speaking with several dog owners, police were made aware that the aggressing dog has displayed such character toward dogs of smaller size but not his size or larger.  This case is being investigated by Brookline Animal Control.

3:30 PM- A report was made at the station regarding a larceny on Washington Street.  The Brookline resident reported a stolen Razor Scooter.  The scooter was placed in the foyer of the Main Library on 7/31/18 around 3:30 PM.  When the complainant returned to the foyer around 6:15 PM, the scooter was gone.  The scooter was described as a silver and pink Razor Scooter with two wheels and non-motorized.  This case is under investigation, seeking video surveillance.

Monday, July 30th

8:30 AM- An officer was dispatched to Heath Street for a report on a breaking and entering and larceny of a motor vehicle.  The caller stated that she parked her vehicle in the staff parking lot around 8:00 PM on 7/29/18.  She left the doors unlocked.  When she returned to her car around 7:00 AM the following day she noticed her car had been tampered with.  The center console was open and the contents were scattered over her seats.  This case is under investigation.

6:37 PM- Officers responded to Beacon Street for a report of a larceny of a bicycle.  The caller expressed that he locked his bike with a “U-Lock” on Carlton Street around 9:30 PM on Saturday July 28^th.  When he went to retrieve his bike around 6:30 AM the following day his bike was absent.  The complainant described the bike as a black specialized road bicycle with blue writing and both an “MGH” and “Brookline Tenant” sticker on it.  Officers are pursuing this case, seeking possible surveillance.

Sunday, July 29th

10:41 AM- Officers reported to Egmont street for a reported open window.  The reporting party stated that when she woke up around 8:30 AM she noticed that her kitchen window was slightly open and the window screen was higher than she normally places it.  She did not notice anything missing from the apartment.  Officers observed thumb prints on the window in a manner suggesting someone attempting to open the window from the outside.  The officers noticed a window of the neighboring unit had been tampered with as well and the ground appeared to have been stepped on below the window.  Upon encountering individuals exiting the neighboring unit an officer asked them if they knew anything about the incident and they stated that they had been locked out of the unit and tried to gain entry through the window and mistakenly attempted entry through the other unit’s window.  This case is closed.

Saturday, July 28th

11:09 AM- An officer arrived on Thorndike Street for a malicious damage report.  The caller stated that she believed a delivery driver from the previous night had damaged her spouse’s vehicle.  The home has a surveillance camera installed near the front doorbell.  The night of the incident the caller was expecting a food delivery by an unaffiliated delivery service from a local restaurant.  She noticed the car pull up to her house and the driver remained inside the vehicle.  The delivery driver called her and stated that he could not find the address and she notified him that he was at the correct address.  When the delivery man came to the door to with the food, the caller and him got into an argument over the delay.  The caller stated that the man left her doorstep angry and hovered around the garage area.  The family had recently purchased a new car which was located in front of the garage.  The morning after, the caller’s husband went outside and found his vehicle significantly scratched on the rear.  The scratches looked like key marks to the observer.  He called the police and his wife made a complaint with the delivery company about the unprofessionalism of the driver and the car scratches.  She knew the first name of the delivery driver and a phone number.  The surveillance camera footage was turned over to police which depicts the suspect scratching the car.  This case is being investigated.

5:00 PM- A report of malicious damage to a motor vehicle was made on Juniper Street.  The caller stated that she left her car in her parking space in the parking lot in the rear of her apartment complex.  She did this on the night of July 27^th.  The following day when she went to her vehicle she observed damage to the rear right quarter panel of her vehicle.  She believed it looked as though another vehicle tried to back into the spot next to hers and ended up backing into her vehicle.  The apartment complex has assigned parking.  The complainant stated that she knew who the parking spot belonged to and that the occupier is away for the week.  She has noticed many vehicles not assigned to spaces occupying parking spaces.  The same incident had occurred to the left rear of her vehicle on July 25^th but she had not reported it.  The officer observed the damage to both sides of her vehicle.  The complainant stated that the area where her car is located has a lack of lighting and that she finds bottles of urine by her car frequently.  She believes there are parking space trespassers.  There were no security cameras in the area to observe.  The caller was advised to contact her insurance company.

5:21 PM- An officer was dispatched to Heath Street for a report of a larceny.  A student reported that he placed a suitcase in a communal area in the building while he was waiting to leave to return home.  He was scheduled to move out in a few hours.  He left the suitcase unattended for approximately an hour and forty-five minutes.  When he returned to the community room his suitcase was gone.  He contacted campus security who was not able to locate the luggage and advised him to contact police and make a report.

A local utility company responded to a report of a siting of bones on a job site.  An anthropologist determined that the bones were of a horse.

Friday, July 27th

3:16 PM- An officer responded to TJ MAXX on Harvard St. for a reported shoplifting incident.  The officer met with the loss prevention officer at the store who stated that two young males entered the store around 3:00 PM and shoplifted several items.  The employee showed the officer a video of the suspects.  The video shows one of the persons involved placing several items of clothing inside his book bag.  The second person was not observed taking any items from the store.  When the individual who was observed concealing items tried to exit the store without paying, the complainant tried to stop him unsuccessfully.  This case is being investigated.

5:25 PM- A larceny report was made at Heath St.  When an officer arrived at the location he met the complainant who stated that there had been four burglaries and one larceny reported to her.  These incidents were said to have occurred between 8:00 AM on Tuesday 7/24/18 and 5:00 PM on Friday 7/27/18.  Units in this location are rented out to an outside institution in the summer.  One of the residents affected stated that the master key could have been taken out of the staff office in the room next to hers or a copy could have been made.  The responding officer was not able to locate or contact the other reporting parties.  The caller stated that all the residents assigned for the first half of summer were leaving Saturday 7/28/18.  The same officer went to the location a second time to see if any remaining residents had noticed anything suspicious or had another incident.  He was made aware of several more incidents.  One witness was in his unit when a male opened his room door, peered in and closed the door when he noticed it was occupied.  This case is under investigation.

Thursday, July 26th

8:50 PM- The complainants stated that on 7/25/18 around 8:30 AM that they had employees of an air conditioning company come to their home and fix their air conditioner.  The family had used this company in the past with no issues.  The caller stated that she had been with two of the three employees almost the entire time they were working in her home.  She knew two of the employees from previous jobs having been done on her property.  The employee she was not familiar with stated that he needed to check the vents in the other rooms.  The workers finished and left the home around 1:30 PM.  The following day the complainant noticed items were missing from her jewelry box.  A cleaning service is also frequently used in the home but it is the same employee every time with an occasional extra person.  The resident does not believe the cleaning service was involved with the larceny.  This case is under investigation.

Wednesday, July 25th

3:55 PM- Officers responded to a report of a missing scooter.  The reporting party stated that she left her scooter outside of a business on Washington Street in Washington Square for about ten to fifteen minutes.  When she exited the store she noticed her scooter was missing and an item that she had left on the scooter was now sitting on a table outside the store.  The police were able to get a description of the powered scooter and canvassed the area in attempts to locate it. An Officer noticed the described bike being operated the wrong way down University Road. The Officer stopped the man riding it and began asking him questions.  He asked the man to get off the scooter, so he could further investigate. As the man got off the scooter, the Officer instructed him to sit on the curb. The man motioned as if he were going to sit and then began to run from the Officer. A foot pursuit ensued. The Officer requested back-up to assist him, and broadcast the now suspect’s description to responding units. The Officer lost site of the suspect as he ran in the area of Gardener Road. A short time later two Officers responding to search for the fleeing suspect saw a man fitting the description and stopped him on Griggs Road. The first Officer positively identified the suspect as the man who he stopped, and who ran from him. The suspect was placed under arrest for Larceny of a Motor Scooter, traffic offenses, and Failure to Stop for Police. The owner of the scooter confirmed that the scooter Police had found was her stolen scooter.

Detectives checked the surveillance cameras of the business and confirmed that the man who was seen taking the bike, was the man who was riding it when police stopped him. 

6:20 PM- An employee at a business on Harvard Street reported her phone missing to Brookline Police.  The employee put her phone down and turned away while doing something and when she turned back around she found that her phone was missing.  After asking other employees and cleaning personal if they had seen her phone she contacted police to report the incident.  This case is under investigation.

7:30 PM- A Brookline resident reported a stolen bike.  She habitually locked her bike to a bike rack at the Brookline Village T stop.  When she went to the bike rack on the night of 7/21/18 to get and use it, she found that it was gone.  The bike is described as a women’s silver Airen Sport, Diamond model bicycle with an orange stripe on the bar leading from the handle bars to the front tire.  This case is being investigated.

Tuesday, July 24th

11:60 AM- Officers responded with the Brookline Fire Department to Beacon Street for a fire alarm.  A van that pulled into a garage damaged a sprinkler head, causing the alarms to sound.  Brookline Fire Department turned off the water source, preventing further water damage and an officer took statements from the driver of the van and the resident.  The property owner was contacted as well. 

Monday, July 23rd

4:14 PM- An officer responded to Columbia Street for a reported theft of two bicycles.  The caller noticed the night prior that her two bikes were missing.  She stated that she had last seen the bikes hours prior to noticing they were missing.  One of the bicycles was black, the other was orange and they were 21 speeds.  The owner left the bicycles unlocked on the side of her yard.  There were many other unlocked bicycles on the side of the yard as well but none of them were stolen.  This case is under investigation.

9:05 PM- A larceny report was made on Freeman Street.  An officer arrived at the location and spoke with the reporting party.  The caller stated that she left her apartment around 7:15 AM and returned home around 8:45 PM.  When she went in her room and took off her jewelry to place them in her jewelry box she noticed the box was open and facing backwards (not like she left it).  She then noticed items were missing from the box.  The day that these items went missing is the same day a pest control company had tended to the apartment building.  An incident involving the same pest control company and a larceny occurred last week in the same building.  This case is being investigated.

Sunday, July 22nd

2:45 PM- A report of a shoplifting incident at a CVS on Commonwealth Avenue was made.  The suspect was described by Dispatch and an officer in the area identified a man following the description and pursued him.  The suspect placed the bag said to obtain the stolen items on the ground and tried to flee but was stopped when he lost his balance.  The suspect was advised of his Miranda Rights and he admitted to stealing products from the CVS.  He was identified by the store manager and arrested for the shoplifting incident. 

6:11 PM- Three officers responded to a CVS on Commonwealth Avenue for a reported shoplifting incident.  The suspects were described as two white males in their forties to fifties, wearing blue T-shirts, and khaki shorts.  Both suspects were riding bikes when fleeing the scene.  The caller who reported the incident stated that he noticed an item from the store in the bag of one of the suspects and tried to stop them but the suspects fled on their bikes.  Surveillance of the incident was turned over to Brookline Police.  This case is being investigated.

11:00 PM- An officer was dispatched to Saint Paul Street for a reported breaking and entering and larceny.  Upon arrival he met with two roommates, one of which had been out of town since 7/18/18 until the day of the report.  When he returned home he noticed several items missing from his room.  His roommate was gone for several hours on the previous day but locked the apartment.  The windows of the room where items were taken were unlocked.  This case is under investigation.

Saturday, July 21st

12:40 PM- A shoplifting incident was reported at Walgreens on Harvard Street.  The individual involved was said to have left the store and was traveling up the street in specified clothing.  An officer noticed the individual based on the described clothing provided by dispatch and pursued him.  Another officer arrived to assist the present officer.  The subject was stopped and advised of the reason for the stop and read his Miranda Rights.  The subject denied the accusation that he had stolen items from the store but soon after admitted to his actions.  One of the officers spoke with the store manager who explained the shoplifting incident he observed.  The store manager identified the suspect as the person he observed stealing items from the store.  This case is closed.

4:40 PM- An officer was dispatched to a CVS on Commonwealth Avenue for a reported shoplifting.  When the officer arrived at the scene he met with the store manager who stated that twenty minutes prior a white male approximately 6’2”, wearing a white t-shirt, dark-colored pants, and a black backpack attempted to steal three pairs of headphones.  The store manager confronted the suspect who then removed two pairs of headphones from his bag and left the store.  Dispatch provided the Brookline Police Department with the description of the suspect.  Officers searched the area for the individual and did not find him.  This case is under investigation.

Friday, July 20th

4:30 PM- An officer was dispatched to Dean Road for a report of a larceny.  The caller stated that her son and son’s friend were setting up a lemonade stand on the corner of Dean Road and Eliot Street as they do a few times a week.  Around 3:30 PM her son and his friend left the lemonade stand unattended while they went home to retrieve lemonade and a sign, a few houses away from the stand.  When the boys returned to the stand five minutes later, they noticed a chair and the plastic cups were missing.  This case is active.

4:57 PM- A package theft was reported on Vernon Street.  An officer reported to the scene of the caller to speak with two residents of an apartment building regarding their packages.  Both residents were expecting packages on the day of the theft.  When one of the tenants arrived home she noticed two packages in the locked common area.  One package was hers and the other was her roommate’s.  One of the packages was opened.  The caller brought both packages up to her apartment and discovered that the contents of her package had been removed and resealed.  Her roommate’s package had been opened but the contents were present.  The occupants of the apartment stated that they had another package taken earlier in the week as well.  This case is being investigated.

Thursday, July 19th

11:36 AM- A detective and officer were dispatched to Verndale Street for a breaking and entering of a motor vehicle on 7/18/18 around 7:00 PM.  The following morning when the caller went out to her vehicle she noticed items were missing.  This case is considered a larceny and is under investigation.

Wednesday, July 18th

5:30PM- An officer was dispatched to Freeman Street for a report of a breaking and entering.  In an apartment occupied by two Brookline residents, one arrived home to find dirt scattered around the apartment.  At first, the finding of dirt was not of concern.   During the resident’s search of the apartment for items necessary for upcoming traveling plans she noticed an item was not where she remembered placing it.  After walking around the apartment to see if she placed it somewhere else she observed an open window in the living room with a cut open screen of which was pulled off its frame.  More dirt was discovered under the open window and trailed to other rooms in the apartment.  When the second resident arrived home they scoured the apartment to determine if any other belongings were missing and discovered many items absent.  After reaching out to the apartment manager the tenants contacted Brookline Police.  This case is under investigation.

6:42PM- An officer was dispatched to Target on Commonwealth Ave. for a report of a shoplifting incident in the electronics section.  When officers arrived to the location they observed the described suspect around the intersection of Amory Street and Dummer Street.  A Target employee was also nearby the suspect pointing to him.  Two officers stopped the suspect, questioned him about having a red bag, a bag the Target employee described to have been used in the shoplifting incident.  After denial of having the bag, an officer retrieved the open bag from on top of a dumpster and observed unopened electronics inside.  The suspect was asked for his name and date of birth of which he gave.  After running his name, officers were made aware of many prior entries but no warrants on the suspect.  The Target employee claimed the suspect had been stealing from the store for two weeks on three separate occasions.  The employee identified the suspect as the individual conducting the shoplifting incidents.  The suspect was then searched, placed under arrest, and transported to The Brookline Police Station where he was booked.

Tuesday, July 17th

A report was made on 7/16/18 to a Brookline Animal Control Officer on a dog biting incident that occurred on 7/14/18 on Beacon Street.  An individual stated she was bitten by a dog when passing by a Brookline resident walking her dog.  The dog owner stated her dog is a puppy and got excited when the victim approached.  She then claimed her dog went up to the complainant but did not bite or scratch her.  This case is under investigation.
