Saturday, July 14th

4:38PM- A call was made reporting found property on Highland Road.  An officer was dispatched to the location where the property was collected and brought to the station.  The owner was contacted and the property was retrieved.

Friday, July 13th

8:35AM- A report was made on past shoplifting incidents at Target located on Commonwealth Ave.  An officer was dispatched to the location and met with a loss prevention employee.  The officer learned that the store has endured three shoplifting incidents in the past week.  The incidents occurred on  7/5/18, 7/7/18, and 7/9/18.  Each time the suspect entered the store with a bag and took primarily small electronic items, placed them in the bag and left quickly out the front door.  The suspect appears to be a white male, approximately 30-40 years old, thin build with a light beard.  In every incident the suspect wore blue athletic shorts with a white stripe along the side.  This case is under investigation.

9:53PM- An officer was dispatched to High Street to speak with a caller reporting a lost phone.   The complainant stated that he placed his phone on an infant changing table at Trader Joe’s while using the restroom around 8:15PM.  During his walk home he realized he left his phone and returned to the location.  Upon arrival he found his phone had been taken and was not turned into the staff.  This case is under investigation.

Thursday, July 12th

9:55AM- An officer was dispatched to the area of Boylston Street and Randolph Road for a report of a traffic crash.  Both parties involved in the accident were not injured.   The vehicles sustained minor to moderate damage.  This case has been closed.

2:39PM- An officer was dispatched with Brookline Fire Fallon EMS and the Water Department for a report on a motor vehicle crash.  The accident was reported to have been a motor vehicle crash into a fire hydrant on Sterns Road.  The operator did not sustain any injuries and the fire hydrant was tested by the Water Department and found to be functioning.  This case had been completed.

MassDOT's Commonwealth Avenue Bridge Work is About to Begin

The following information regarding construction on Commonwealth Ave are provided by the Masachusetts Department of Transportation Highway Division

MassDOT will implement the 2018 construction shutdown from Thursday, July 26, 2018, to Saturday, August 11, 2018, to replace the westbound side of the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge. The following roads and facilities will be impacted: Commonwealth Avenue between Brighton Avenue/Packard’s Corner and Kenmore Square, the Boston University (BU) Bridge, I-90 (Mass Pike), the MBTA Green B Line, Bus Routes 47 and CT2, Commuter Rail Worcester Line, and Amtrak's Lake Shore Limited route. MassDOT is partnering with the City of Boston to provide an additional temporary Blue Bikes station at Silber Way on Commonwealth Ave during the construction period. Stage 4 (2018 Construction Shutdown) Impact Schedule: From Thursday, July 26, to Saturday, August 11, MassDOT will implement the following closures and service impacts to allow the contractor to work continuous shifts, 24 hours a day, to replace the westbound side of the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge: Street/Facility Temporary Impact Notes Commonwealth Avenue eastbound and westbound (between Brighton Avenue/Packard’s Corner and Kenmore Square) Closed to through motor vehicles from 7:00 PM on July 26 to 5:00 AM on August 11. Two-way access will be maintained for local businesses and residents, MBTA buses, emergency services, pedestrians, and bicyclists. There will be no access for private vehicles between St. Paul and St. Mary’s Streets. Boston University (BU) Bridge Closed to motor vehicles from 7:00 PM on July 26 to 5:00 AM on August 11. Two-way access will be maintained for pedestrians and bicyclists. MBTA Bus Routes CT2 and 47 Detoured from normal routes from 7:00 PM on July 26 to 5:00 AM on August 11. See detour map below. Additional detour information from the MBTA MBTA Green B Line (from Babcock Street to Blandford Street Stations) Closed from 5:00 AM on July 27 to 5:00 AM on August 11. Shuttle buses will run between Babcock Street and Blandford Street Stations. Accessibility for persons with disabilities will be provided at all points of the shuttle. Additional detour information from the MBTA I-90 (Mass Pike) (between the Allston Interchange and the Beacon Street Overpass) Lane reductions and ramp closures from 9:00 PM on July 27 to 5:00 AM on August 6. Two lanes in each direction during peak hours (additional lane closures during off-peak hours and weekends). The I-90 Eastbound on-ramp from Cambridge Street/Soldiers Field Road will be closed during this entire period. The I-90 Westbound Exit 20 off-ramp to Brighton/Cambridge will be closed intermittently. MBTA Commuter Rail Framingham/Worcester Line Service impacts for two weekends: July 28-29and August 4-5. Free bus shuttles will replace train service between Framingham and Wellesley Farms. After Wellesley Farms, the shuttle bus will then continue nonstop to Riverside, where riders can connect to the Green D Line. Wednesday, July 11th

9:50 PM- An officer was dispatched to CVS on Commonwealth Ave.  pursuant to a shoplifting in progress call.  The complainant stated while observing the security surveillance cameras that he noticed an individual placing items in a personal bag.  He believed the individual was doing so to temporarily store the items before purchasing.  Due to this belief he did not pursue further monitoring of the individual in the store.  When reviewing the surveillance camera footage he noticed the individual walked past the checkout stand and proceeded through the exit in the front of the store and headed east.  This case is being investigated.

Tuesday, July 10th

7/10/18

1:30 PM- An officer was dispatched to Walnut Street for a report of a breaking and entering.  The caller stated that her home was broken into and that she had items taken from her apartment by a friend who has taken items from her home in the past.  She identified the suspect due to an article of clothing left behind during the breaking and entering that she recognized.  This case is under investigation.

5:15 PM- An officer assigned to the front desk of the police station was approached by a complainant reporting a lost phone.  The owner of the phone stated that he believed he left his phone in an Uber and called the driver when he realized his phone was not on his person after being dropped off.  The driver denied that the phone was left in the car.  The location services of the phone were found to be turned off when checked.  This case is under investigation.

An officer responded to a graffiti complaint.  Upon arrival at the scene the officer noticed graffiti tags on a lamp post, an electrical box and two United States Postal Service mail boxes.  The officer recognized the tags from another location.  The suspect(s) are unknown and the case is under investigation. 

Monday, July 9th

Around 6:53 AM an officer was dispatched to Egmont St. for a breaking and entering and larceny of a motor vehicle.  The family vehicle had been used by the husband during the day on Sunday near the reservoir.  He left the car unlocked for hours and when he returned to the car did not notice any missing items.  He then went home and parked the family vehicle overnight in their parking spot, locking the car.  Upon arrival at the vehicle on Monday morning he realized items were missing.  No damage occurred to the vehicle.  The case is under investigation to pursue possible surveillance of the vehicle. 

Sunday, July 8th

7/8/18

9:13 AM- An officer was dispatched to Winchester St. to take a report on a past larceny.  The caller stated between 06/20/2018 and 07/06/2018, three confirmed delivered packages had been stolen from the entrance.  The incident is under investigation.

5:57 PM- An officer was dispatched to Auburn St. to take a report on stolen packages.  The caller stated that she had received multiple packages on her front porch while she was out of town with her family.  

Saturday, July 7th

7/7/18

7:51 AM- An officer was dispatched to Kent St. for a report of a broken rear window of the apartment building.  The officer spoke to the caller who stated that while he was doing laundry in the basement he observed one of the windows in the laundry room had been forced in and was on the ground shattered.  The damage was not there yesterday so he believed the damage was new.  None of the caller’s property was missing but it is unsure if other tenant’s property had been taken.  The washing machines and dryers were not tampered with.  The management company was contacted and the company stated that they would reach out to other units to inquire.  This case is being investigated.

Friday, July 6th

7/6/18

10:50 PM- An officer was dispatched to Babcock St. for a possible bat exposure.  The victim stated that he was in bed with his wife when a bat flew into their room from the hallway.  He attempted to capture the bat but was unsuccessful.  The bat eventually flew out of an open window, grazing the victim’s leg in the process.  Neither the victim nor his wife knew where the bat came from or how long it was in their home.  During the incident the victim’s cat and two children were present.  He was advised to follow up with the Brookline Health Department to determine if care is needed.  A report was taken and Animal Control was notified as well as the Health Department.

Thursday, July 5th

7/5/18

A report was made at the station on a stolen bike.  The owner placed her bike in front of her car in an underground garage on Sewall Ave.  Three days after placing the bike in front of her car and using her car a few times she realized her bike was gone.  She had not noticed the bikes absence.  The bike was described as a men’s, trek bicycle.

7/3/2018 and 7/4/2018

7/3/2018

In the afternoon of July 3, an officer was dispatched to Monmouth St. for a report of a larceny. The reporting party stated that he had locked his bike to a bike rack earlier that day and returned to find his lock cut and bike gone. The incident is under investigation.

An officer was dispatched to a residence on Dean Rd. for a report of package thefts. The reporting parties stated that four packages were stolen from their front step on July 2^nd. The incident is under investigation.

An officer responded to an apartment building on St. Paul St. for a report of a package theft. The reporting party stated that when they went to retrieve their package, they found that the contents had been removed. While on scene, the officer observed another package in the foyer that had been ripped open with the contents removed. While speaking with the other victim, it was learned that three of their packages had been stolen. The thefts are being investigated.

Notice: July 4th Fireworks

Many will visit Brookline on Wednesday, July 4th to view the Boston Esplanade fireworks. Larz Anderson Park is one of the best places in Brookline to view the fireworks and Boston skyline. This area attracts hundreds of people each year. Because of the large crowds expected, the following safety measures will be implemented:

• The top of the park will be closed to all traffic starting at 6PM. Any vehicles parked at the top of the park will be towed and barricades will be put into place. ONLY pedestrian access will be allowed to the top area starting at 6PM.
• People are reminded that fireworks are illegal, and alcohol is restricted in all parks. Please leave those items at home.
• Officers will be assigned to this area and will be proactively monitoring the area.

Summit Ave Park is another popular spot even though you have very limited viewing access due to the large tree coverage.
• The area around Summit Ave Park will become a No Parking-Tow Away Zone
• Summit Ave will become a one-way coming from Brighton towards Beacon St. Traffic coming up Summit Ave from Beacon will be detoured at Jordan Rd/York Terrace.

6/29 through 7/1/18

On June 29, a man came into the police station to report a past larceny. The reporting party stated that a package had been confirmed as delivered to his home on Franklin St. on Wednesday 6/20 but he never received it.

An officer responded to a residence on Stearns Rd. for a report of stolen packages. The reporting parties stated that they have had 7 packages stolen between 6/19-6/28. The incidents are being investigated.

6/30

On June 30, an officer was dispatched to Freeman St. for a report of a stolen bicycle. The reporting party stated that her Trek bike had been stolen from her garage on 6/29. The incident is under investigation.

In the afternoon of June 30, officers were dispatched to Lee St. for a motor vehicle crash involving two vehicles. While speaking with one of the drivers, officers could detect an odor of alcohol and observed the female with slow and slurred speech and difficulties maintaining her balance. The woman was placed under arrest for Operating Under the Influence, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and a Marked Lanes Violation. During an inventory of the vehicle, officers located a bottle of alcohol under the front passenger seat. The woman is also being charged with one count of having an Open Container in a Vehicle.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Naples Rd. and Gibbs St. after dispatch received a call stating a male had just tagged a mailbox in that area. Officers located a male matching the description and initiated a field stop. The man admitted to tagging trash cans and consented to a search of his backpack. During their search, officers located several ounces of marijuana as well as a scale. The man was placed under arrest and is being charged with 2 counts of Vandalizing Property/Tagging and 1 count of Possession of a Class D Drug with Intent to Distribute.

Thursday, June 28th

6/28

8:30 PM - An officer responded to Longwood Ave for a report of a package theft. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the victim who stated that her package had been delivered at  12:30 PM. When she came home at approximately 4:00 PM, she found the package ripped open with its contents missing. A follow-up has been requested. This incident is being investigated.

8:33 PM - Officers were dispatched to Harvard Street for a report of a shoplifter. Police spoke with an employee who stated that an individual had entered the store, taking four items and concealing them in a backpack. He then went to exit the store where management confronted him. The Boston resident admitted to concealing the items and was charged with shoplifting. A criminal complaint was completed and filed with Brookline District Court.

8:45 PM - An officer responded to St. Paul Street to take a report of a past package theft. The victim told the officer that there were two instances in which her packages had been taken since the beginning of June. One package was confirmed to be delivered on June 7th and the other on June 22nd. The victim was reimbursed by the companies. The victim was advised in the event of this happening again to contact police as soon as possible. This incident is being investigated.

8:52 PM - An officer was dispatched to Commonwealth Ave for a reported larceny Thursday evening. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the victim who stated that they had left their backpack on a shelf in a restaurant earlier that afternoon. At approximately 5:00 PM, the victim realized the backpack and its contents were missing. This incident is being investigated.

Wednesday, June 27th

6/27

8:30 PM - An officer assigned to the front desk took a Larceny from a Motor Vehicle report Wednesday night. The victim told police that she had parked her car in her driveway at approximately 10:30 PM on the evening of June 26th. When she returned to her vehicle at approximately 8:00 AM Wednesday morning, she noticed that 2 electronic items and some cash and change had been stolen. Police are investigating this incident.

9:30 PM - An officer responded to Colbourne Crescent to assist a victim of a burglary that had occurred at the beginning of June. The victims stated that after having friends over, they had both left the state. Upon their return back home, one of the victim's noticed that a sliding door to their family room was open and observed an open window within that room as well. Once the other victim arrived back to the residence, he was able to confirm that some of his belongings were missing. Brookline PD is investigating this incident. 

10:35 PM - An officer was dispatched to Harvard Ave where a victim relayed to officers that someone had stolen items from his residence. An acquaintance of the victim had been staying at his residence for a few nights. The victim woke up after the suspect's departure to find several items missing from his apartment. This is an active case.

Tuesday, June 26th

1:30 AM - An officer was dispatched to Cypress Street for a report of a past larceny. The victim relayed to the officer that he had left his moped outside his place of work to go to the gym at approximately 10:30 PM, having the key within his possession. When the victim returned at 1:30 AM, his moped was missing. A follow-up has been requested. This incident is being investigated.

Monday, June 25th

10:33 AM - Monday morning, an officer was dispatched to the station to take a dog bite report. The victim of the bite explained that as he was walking along Washington Street he observed a dog tethered to a parking meter. The victim stated that the dog appeared calm and made the decision to pet the dog when it bit him. The owner of the dog came out of a near-by property and exchanged information with the victim. The officer spoke with the owner who was advised that tethering a dog on public property is a violation of the Town's leash law. She was advised that the Brookline Health Department would be contacted and conduct what is necessary on their end, to which the owner acknowledged. It was confirmed that the Retriever/Shepard breed is licensed with the Town of Brookline and up-to-date on his rabies vaccination. The owner was issued a Town of Brookline By-Law citation for Dog at Large, Bitten or Injuring a Person.

4:11 PM - An officer was dispatched to Commonwealth Ave to take a report on past bike theft. The victim stated that he had parked his bike against a railing in an alleyway at around 12:00 PM, securing it with a wire lock. He returned at approximately 4:00 PM and discovered his bike was stolen and the wire lock had been cut and left on the ground. This incident is being investigated.

9:17 PM - Police were dispatched to Winchester Street for a report of malicious damage to a motor vehicle that was parked in a driveway. The officer was met by the caller who stated that she had parked her vehicle in the driveway on 6/24 at approximately 8:30 PM. When she came out on the night of 6/25 around 9:45 PM, she noticed that her windshield had been broken. Inside the broken windshield she observed a cologne bottle which had been used to damage the vehicle. The bottle of cologne was seized as evidence. Nothing was disturbed or missing within the victim's vehicle. This case is being investigated.

June 22nd through June 24th

6/22

4:42 PM - An officer responded to Washington Street to take a report of a stolen license plate. The victim stated that she had parked her motorcycle in a parking lot Friday morning and when she came back to the lot later that afternoon, her rear plate had been stolen. Police are investigating this incident.

6/23

9:24 PM - Brookline Police were dispatched to the area of Beacon Street and Charles Street to take a report of a stolen bicycle. The individual was identified and stated that they had found the bicycle laying in bushes on Beacon Street. The Boston resident was placed under arrest and charged with Larceny Under $1200.00. A criminal application was filed with Brookline District Court.

6/24

9:22 AM - An officer responded to Saint Mary's Court for a report regarding a suspicious person looking into parked cars in the area. The caller provided police with a description and they were able to locate the subject once arriving on scene. A quick investigation determined that the suspect had broken into a vehicle parked near Saint Mary's Court, taking 2 items from the vehicle that he had left on a concrete wall on scene. The victim stated that she had parked her car at approximately 7:45 AM that morning, leaving it unlocked. She stated that the 2 items belonged to her partner. The stolen property was returned to the victim and she stated that nothing else was believed to be missing. An application for Criminal Complaint was filed with Brookline Court for Breaking & Entering with the Intent to Commit a Misdemeanor - Larceny from a Motor Vehicle.

Thursday, June 21st

6/21

6:06 PM - An officer was dispatched to Sewall Ave for the report of a larceny. The officer was met by the victim who stated that she had left for work at approximately 7:00 AM that morning and arrived back to her residence around 5:45 PM Thursday evening. When she arrived back home, she noticed that two packages that were delivered to her had been taken. The shipments contained various clothing items.

6:38 PM - An officer was dispatched to Sewall Ave to take a report of a larceny. The victim stated that she left for work at approximately 7:00 AM and upon arriving home around 5:00 PM, a package that was delivered had been taken. The package contained a black dress.

11:00 PM - Police responded to a radio call for a larceny report at Sewall Ave Thursday night. The victim stated that a package delivered to her lobby at 11:35 AM had been stolen when she arrived home around 5:00 PM. The victim stated that after speaking with neighbors, several of them had also reported packages stolen from the lobby of the building.

Brookline PD are continuing to investigate these incidents of package theft on Sewall Ave.
