Monday, September 3rd

Eight reports were made for break, entering and larcenies of vehicles on Jordan Rd.  All the vehicles involved were broken into or the owners left them unlocked.  The car doors were left open by the suspect and items were scattered on the seats.  Loose change and various items had been taken from the cars.

Four vehicles had been broken into and rummaged through on Summit Ave.

A vehicle had been broken into on Jenness Road.  The car door was left open and change was stolen.

Saturday, September 1st

1:06 PM- An officer responded to Babcock Street for a larceny report.  The complainant explained that while moving into a building, he had all his belongings to the side of the building in the parking lot.  When he came out of the building he discovered clothing of his was missing.  He noticed three individuals near his belongings and asked them if they took his clothing.  They responded “no” and got in a car and drove away.  The car was described as a gray colored sedan.  The individuals were two males and a female.  Officers were unable to locate a vehicle matching the description in the surrounding area.  This case is being investigated.

A report was made on Freeman Street for a theft from a building.  The caller, a student explained he was in the process of moving out of his apartment between midnight and 1:00 AM.  He was bringing items down to his car.  He said he did not lock his apartment door while moving items.  On one of his returns to the apartment he noticed articles of clothing missing.  This case is under investigation.

Friday, August 31st

1:52 PM- Officers were dispatched to Commonwealth Ave for a report of a larceny from a building.  The reporting party informed officer’s that items had been stolen from his locker while he was working out in the gym.  He stated, he locked his items away around 10:30 AM and around 1:30 PM he returned and noticed his master lock had been pried open and broken in half.  Along with items having been missing, his wallet appeared to have been rummaged through.  This case is under investigation.

Thursday, August 30th

11:50 AM- A report was made on Gibbs Street for a larceny.  The complainant told an officer she was out of town from 7/18/18 to 7/23/18.  She believes her wedding ring was stolen from her bedroom.  She was in a hurry to leave for the trip and forgot the ring.  A friend was tending to her pets while she was away.  There is reason to believe the person tending to the pets is a suspect due to a past larceny on a separate occasion when the same person was pet sitting.  At one point during the trip the pet sitter brought company along with him to the residence.  The complainant reached out to the individual caretaking for the pets and the accompanying girlfriend.  They denied knowledge of the rings whereabouts.  This case is being investigated.

Wednesday, August 29th

6:07 PM- Officers were dispatched to Commonwealth Ave for a shoplifting incident.  Brookline Police Dispatch described the suspect as a white male wearing a red shirt, black pants, and a black bag, who left the store and headed toward Kenmore Square.  An officer spoke to the reporting party who stated he viewed the suspect enter the store around 6:00 PM, go straight to an aisle and place items into his backpack.  He confronted the suspect who then left the store and headed in the direction of Kenmore Square.  This case is under investigation.

Tuesday, August 28th

4:00AM- An officer responded to a possible bat exposure call on Strathmore Road.  The caller stated she woke up to a bat flying around her room.  She did not know if she had contact with it.  She was given contact numbers for animal control companies and the Health Department was notified.

10:40AM- An officer was dispatched to Browne Street for a report of a theft of a bicycle.  The complainant told the officer his blue and gray colored custom men’s Rivendale brand, Homer Hudsen model, road touring bicycle had been stolen from his back porch sometime between 8:00PM on 8/24/18 and 9:00PM on 8/27/18.  A family member of bike owner stated that the bike was a rather large framed bike with a 64 centimeter frame with brown leather handle bars as well as the seat.  The bike also has silver fenders on both front and back tire rims and a gray/silver bike rack with a portable bike bag attached.  This is a sticker underneath the frame of the bike that says “Harris”.  This case is under investigation.

Monday, August 28th

A package theft report was made on Dean Road.  The reporting party stated he had a package delivered on Saturday, 8/18/18 sometime between 10:00AM and 3:00PM.  He believes the package was removed from the foyer area of the building.  This case is under investigation.

2:50PM- Officers were dispatched to Harvard Street for a shoplifting incident at TJ MAXX.  Dispatch described the suspect to officers.  The female suspect was monitored on camera taking numerous items and concealing them in her shoulder purse.  The suspect attempted to exit the store before the police arrived and was stopped by store employees.  When the officers arrived on scene, they were informed by a store employee that she observed the suspect on the store security surveillance cameras taking items.  Officers met with the suspect at the entrance of the store.  They informed her why they were speaking with her.  The suspect had been arrested previously on multiple occasions many of which were larcenies from this same store.  The suspect admitted to stealing items before an officer had the chance to read her Miranda Rights.  She agreed to officers having a look in her bag where they then found the observed stolen items.  The suspect was placed under arrest and informed that she was being charged with shoplifting.

A report was made at the station regarding a break and entering of a vehicle and larceny.  The complainant stated she parked her car in her assigned spot on the night of 8/26/18 around 10:30PM.  She left it unlocked.  This morning at 7:30AM she returned to her car and observed the interior lights on.  She also observed the interior had been rummaged through and items were taken from the trunk.  This case is being investigated.

Sunday, August 26th

12:36 AM- A larceny report was made on Freeman Street.  The caller relayed to the officer on Sunday August 5, 2018 she traveled to California and returned August 26 ^,2018.  Upon her return she found that some items had been moved from the floor to her bed.  Items were also missing from her desk.  The caller has roommates but they have moved back home.  She searched the apartment in an attempt to locate the missing items.  The officer also conducted a walk through with the resident to attempt to locate the items but they were unsuccessful.  The officer discovered a notice on the caller’s door when he arrived stating someone from the building maintenance was in the apartment but did not provide any further information.  This case is under investigation.

 5:40 PM- An officer responded to Beaconsfield Road for a report of a larceny of a cell phone.  The caller stated he was playing tennis in Waldstein Park on 8/26/18.  His cellphone was lying on the side of the court area with his belongings.  Around 12:45 PM he checked his phone and when he went to check it again around 1:30 PM he discovered it was missing.  He found that his phone was turned off at 1:00 PM.  The phone is a Motorola Droid Z Play, and black.  This case is being investigated.

Friday, August 24th

An officer was dispatched to Alton Place for a package theft report.  The reporting party stated she purchased two items from a store online.  The items were scheduled to be delivered by 8/17/18.  She called the company she purchased the items from on 8/24/18 and the employee told her she should have received the items by now.  This case is being investigated.

8:30 PM- Officers were dispatched to CVS on Commonwealth Ave. for a shoplifting report.  Dispatch gave a description of the suspect involved to the responding officers.  Approximately two minutes after the broadcasted description, the officers located a suspect matching the description given.  The suspect was read his Miranda Rights by an officer.  He stated he understood and was compliant.  He told officers he attempted to take an item from the store but returned it to the store manager when he was confronted.  The store manager confirmed the story.  The suspect was advised he would be summonsed to court for shoplifting. 

Thursday, August 23rd

7:58 AM- An officer was dispatched to Pearl Street for a report of a larceny.  The caller told police upon arrival that two separate 100 ft, long copper heavy welding cable had been stolen from the work site.  He last observed the cable on 8/22/18 around 3:00 PM.  Two weeks prior the same copper welding cable had been stolen from the site.  This case is being investigated.

2:05 PM- A report was made at the police station on a larceny of a bicycle at the Brookline Hills T Station on 8/21/18 around 10:00 PM and 11:00 PM.  The bike was locked with an Ottolock.  The lock was taken as well.  This case is under investigation.  

Wednesday, August 22nd

10:17 AM- An officer was dispatched to Pleasant Street for a larceny report.  The caller told the officer a package she ordered had been stolen from inside the foyer area of the residence she lives in.  She had been notified by the delivery service that her package had been delivered on 8/17/18.  The delay in reporting the incident was due to the residents actions of ensuring that her neighbors had not taken the package.  This case is being investigated. 

3:01 PM- Several units were dispatched to Harvard Street for a report of a shoplifting incident.  The suspect was said to have just exited the store.  The suspect was described to officers on scene.  They were also informed that the individual left through the rear entrance of the store.  An employee explained the direction of the flight of the suspect.  The detail officer relayed that he witnessed the suspect board a specific bus and provided fellow officers with the bus number and the direction the bus was heading in which was southbound on Harvard Street.  Officers located the bus and stopped it at Vernon Street.  Based on the suspect’s description the suspect was located on the bus.  She exited the bus and was advised of her Miranda Rights by a detective.  She admitted to the officers on scene that before boarding the bus she had stolen several items from inside the store that called in the complaint.  She listed the items as well.  She also told officers she has a criminal record.  The reporting party identified the suspect as the person he observed taking items from the store. 

8:05 PM- A report on a break and entering was made on Winchester Street.  The reporting party stated that he left the residence where he lives around noon and returned around 3:30 PM.  Upon his return he noticed a screen to a basement window had been removed and placed against the A.C unit.  The window tampered with was closed but unlocked.  The officer observed that it appeared a pry tool had been used to dislodge the screen.  The reporting party also noticed a chair was placed in a location he had not left it.  He didn’t think much about the situation until he saw another resident return around 7:45.  He questioned her about the window of which she said she had no involvement in.  When she entered her apartment she noticed her room had been rummaged through and items had been opened and or taken from different locations throughout her room.  When her roommate returned home she also noticed items had been taken from her room.  This case is under investigation.

Tuesday, August 21st

11:27 AM- An officer was dispatched to Auburn Court for a report of a larceny.  The complainant stated around 11:20 AM on this day he and his family left their residence and walked to the back of their building.  He was carrying a duffel bag which he placed down on a wall that separates the building he lives in and another building.  He went into the basement of the building to retrieve a vacuum while his daughters were still outside.  After returning from the basement he noticed his duffel bag was open.  Upon checking it he noticed items were missing.  This case is being investigated.

Monday, August 20th

11:37 PM- An officer was dispatched to Harvard Street for a package theft report.  The complainant told the officer she left the country on 7/21/18 around 11:30 AM.  A package was delivered to her residence and presumably left in the foyer while she was gone.  When she returned home on 8/20/18 around 10:00 PM she discovered the package was missing.  None of her neighbors reported taking the package.  This case is being investigated.

Sunday, August 19th

1:50 PM- A larceny report was made at the station.  The reporting party claimed he was operating a taxi in Boston and at approximately 6:00 AM he picked up a person who flagged him down at the Star Market in the Fenway.  The individual was to be brought to a location on Beacon Street.  The customer had numerous items including a bicycle.  The bicycle was placed in the taxi and due to the lack of space; several items were placed in the front passenger seat.  When they arrived at the destination, the driver got out to help unload the items.  He had his cell phone present during the ride in the passenger seat area but a few minutes after leaving the drop off location he discovered the phone was missing.  He checked the car for the phone and did not find it.  An officer asked for the description of the customer and the building he entered.  This case is under investigation. 

Saturday, August 18th

A report was made on 8/18/18 at the station for a larceny that occurred on 8/11/18.  On the day of the larceny the reporting party had gone to a bank to make a deposit during heavy rainfall.  He arrived at the bank at about 12:10 PM and while he was waiting in line he placed his umbrella down on a table in the lobby.  He stated that after he had completed his transaction, he returned to the table at about 12:17 PM and his umbrella was missing.  He stated that he spoke with bank personnel and they informed him that although there is video of the bank interior, it is not immediately available since it’s done through a central location.  He returned on 8/14/18 but the bank did not have video available for him to check and no one had returned the umbrella.  The umbrella was described as unique with black cloth and a brown curved wooden handle.  This case is being investigated.

Friday, August 17th

An officer responded to Sherman Road for a report on a larceny of wheels and tires.  The victim’s vehicle was parked by the registered owner near his residence, in a parking space directly in front of the home on Sherman Road between 6:00 PM on 8/16/18 and 9:00 AM on 8/17/18.  When the owner returned he saw his vehicles wheels and tires were missing, and the vehicle was resting on crushed milk crates and the pavement.  This case is under investigation.

12:55 AM- An officer was dispatched to Parkman Street for a past exposure to a dead bat.  The caller stated on 8/15/18 she had walked into the kitchen area of her apartment with her boyfriend and found a dead bat on the floor with both of her house cats nearby.  The boyfriend grabbed plastic bags to dispose of it but saved it for rabies testing.  The bat appeared to have been chewed on and the owner was concerned for her pets’ health.  Appointments have been set up for the pets.  This case is closed.

10:57 PM- A report was made for an animal bite on Longwood Avenue.  The complainant stated she was walking on Beacon Street around 10:30 PM when she walked by a group of people standing on the sidewalk.  A black Labrador Retriever was sitting on the ground next to the group of people on a short leash.  As she walked by the group of people, the dog jumped at her and bit her right wrist which became red.  The person with the dog identified herself and stated that she was watching the dog while the owners were away.  The dog watcher claimed the dog may have been frightened by the person passing.  She gave police the contact information of the dog owners.  The owners stated that their dog was a rescue dog and had been with them for three years and has not bitten anyone before or been aggressive.  The dog had received a rabies vaccine recently.  A follow up by Animal Control has been requested.

Thursday, August 16th

An officer took a report on a stolen bicycle at the station.  The reporting party stated he had left his bicycle in front of Walgreens on Harvard St on Tuesday, 8/14/18 around 10:00 PM.  He believes he secured the bike to the rack with a combination lock.  When he returned on Thursday, 8/16/18 around 10:00 AM he found only his lock still secured to the rack.  The bike is a Trek Dual Sport 2 model, black with green arrows, and aftermarket light system on the handlebars.  This case is being investigated.

4:45 PM- Officers were dispatched to Harvard Street for a shoplifting incident.  Dispatch notified the officers while in route that the suspect was a tall white female, wearing a red shirt and a black backpack that was believed to have entered the store directly next door.  The reporting party with an officer listed items that the suspect took.  She was able to show the officer security surveillance footage to confirm her details.  Another officer recognized an individual fitting the description of the suspect outside the store.  The officer taking the report confirmed the individual was the suspect viewed on surveillance footage.  The suspect confessed to the crime and returned the items.  Court action has been completed.

4:35 PM- While monitoring traffic, an officer noticed a male subject described as a white male, in his teens with a blue red sox t-shirt, black gym shorts, with a gray backpack, carrying what appeared to be a red men’s bicycle on his shoulder with no front tire connected to the front fork.  The officer observed the location from which the suspect came from.  Based on the recent incidents of bike thefts and the unknown party carrying the bike with no front tire, the officer pulled over and made contact with the male party.  He asked him about the bike and ownership.  The male claimed the bike was his, but the bike required specialized shoes to fit the pedals.  After further questions following being Mirandized the officer requested a search from dispatch of the suspects name in the system.  It was made aware that he had a warrant for his arrest.  The suspect was notified of the warrant.  Based on the brand of the bike, the upkeep of the bike not matching the suspects living situation of being homeless, the suspect not having the shoes for the bike and a lack of proof of ownership, the suspect was taken to the station.  The bike was placed into evidence which was later claimed by the owner who had proof of ownership.  The suspect was charged with an active warrant and receiving stolen property.

Wednesday, August 15th

9:45 AM- An officer was dispatched to Monmouth Street for a larceny report.  The complainant spoke of her mother’s apartment missing belongings.  She is in the process of moving from the current apartment to another in the vicinity.  The son of the renter did an inventory on all his moms’ jewelry six months prior which was stored in a specific location in the home.  Today, the caller checked the location of the jewelry and noticed they were gone.  During the moving process, the cabinet where the items are stored had been left unlocked.  This has been the past several weeks.  The victim has several home care aids that come in weekly.  They have full access to the room where the items were located.  This case is under investigation.

3:20 PM- A larceny report was made at the front desk of the Brookline Police Department.  The reporting party stated she was in front of her home on Coolidge Street on 7/23/18 around 2:00 PM.  She was packing her belongings for her trip back home to another state.  She went back and forth to the home while she was packing, leaving items on the sidewalk.  At one point when she went back outside she discovered her travel backpack was missing.  The backpack is described as a L.L Bean backpack, blue, pull out handle, and with wheels.  There were various items in the bag.  She did not report the theft immediately because she thought someone may have turned her belongings into the police.  This case is being investigated.

8:55 PM- Officers responded to Harvard Street for a disturbance call.  The caller claimed an individual entered the store and broke items.  Another witness told police the suspect got on a bus travelling in the direction of Commonwealth Ave.  An officer caught up to the bus and stopped it on Brighton Ave.  Upon boarding the bus the officer noticed an individual matching the description of the suspect from the store.  The suspect exited the bus.  He explained to officers he was agitated due to a verbal confrontation with two parties.  He did not remember entering a store and damaging items.  Officers observed him to be intoxicated.  Brookline Dispatch searched the suspect’s information in the system and found five warrants.  He was made aware of his warrants and placed under arrest.

Tuesday, August 14th

An officer was dispatched to Marion Street for a report of a break and entering of a motor vehicle.  The reporting party told police he parked his car in a garage at 7:00 PM the previous night and returned at 7:00 AM this morning.  When he returned to the car he did not notice anything unusual about the vehicle until he went to plug his phone into the charger.  He then noticed four items missing from the car.  This case is being investigated.

A larceny report was made on Payson Road regarding an incident that had happened in the past.   The complainant stated he inherited items from a family member after a passing.  He kept the artifacts at home in a specific location.  He did not check the location every day to ensure the belongings were present but he checked periodically.  He recently viewed the location of the items and discovered that they were missing.  There had been many companies present in the house in the past to do work.  This case is under investigation.

Monday, August 13th

10:40 AM- An officer was dispatched to Brookline Place for a larceny report.  The caller stated to the officer, a male subject was walking in the back hall of their office suite.  She also viewed him sitting in the break room drinking water out of a mason jar and reading a magazine.  She confronted him and asked why he was in the break room and he immediately got up and left.  The caller’s co-worker found minutes later that her wallet had been stolen out of her bag from the break room.  The co-worker saw the individual come into the office from the back entrance.  She asked him what he was doing and he asked where the bathroom was.  After the co-worker and the reporting party were talking about the suspicious male, the co-worker went to check her belongings in the break room and noticed her wallet was gone.  It contained numerous personal and confidential items.  The suspect was described and viewed on surveillance as a black male, mid 30s, 5’10”, 180 lbs., light blue shirt, jeans, baseball cap, carrying a black backpack with a Brigham and Women’s symbol on the back.

1:43 PM- Officers responded to a call on High Street for a report of a past breaking and entering.  An apartment within a house had been broken into.  The door leading to the apartment had been forced open.  Scuff marks confirmed the forced entry.  The area around the door frame was forced open on the main house side and pieces of it were on the stairs.  Two laptops were taken from the main house.  Evidence depicts the suspect left through a side door.  This case is under investigation.

Sunday, August 12th

5:35 AM- Officers responded to Beacon Street for a report that a woman was groped on Washington Street.  The suspect was described as a white male in his 20s, 5’10”-5’11”, stocky build, short brown hair, with facial stubble, and wearing a black dress/nightgown with a lace garter belt.  The information was broadcasted to Boston Police and Transit Police while Brookline units were searching the area.  The victim stated while walking on the odd side of Washington Street near the intersection of Salisbury Road, she passed a male party of the above description who was walking in the opposite direction on the same side of the street.  When she was passing the male, she felt him grab her from behind by the shoulders and pull her toward him.  He then groped her buttocks.  She screamed and ran down Washington Street and turned onto Beacon Street.  She called the police around Beacon and Marion Street. 

5:22 AM-Officers responded to the area of Harvard Street for a report of a shoplifting incident that occurred at the CVS.  The suspect was said to have traveled toward Beacon Street and a description of the suspect was given to the officers.  An officer arrived at an alley way to a Centre Street Lot at Harvard Street where he met two CVS employees carrying 8 large Tide bottles, two in each hand.  They told the officer the suspect left the parking lot two minutes prior and headed toward Centre Street.  They stated the Tide bottles fell out of the suspect’s luggage while he was attempting to escape.  The supervisor of the store relayed that the suspect came into the store from the rear parking lot entrance and had put Tide bottles into a suitcase.  He confronted the suspect at the rear entrance, who then dumped cleaning products out of his backpack and proceeded to leave.  He was observed wheeling a suitcase out toward the parking lot by the supervisor.  He confronted the suspect in the parking lot where he discovered 8 large Tide bottles and other items.  The suspect quickly shut the suitcase and ran off in the direction of Centre and Beacon Street.  The area was canvassed by officers with negative results.  Video surveillance confirms the suspect’s actions in the store.  This case is under investigation.

A Brookline resident reported his bicycle stolen at the police station.  He claimed he locked his bike to a pole on the corner of Davis Avenue and White Place, on Friday 8/10/18 around 8:00 PM.  He saw the bike on Saturday 8/11/18 around 4:00 PM.  When he returned to get the bike on Sunday 8/12/18 around 12:00 PM it was gone.  He left the bike locked to a pole with a combination lock.  The lock had been taken as well.  The bike is described as a Men’s, T-Rex road bicycle, blue with a Local #2020 Sticker on the top bar.

Saturday, August 11th

9:23 AM- An officer was dispatched to Kent Street for suspicious activity.  The caller observed an open package by the bushes in front of a home on Kent Street.  She picked up the package and observed the name of which the package belonged too.  She knew the resident and had house-sit for the resident.  She brought the opened package home with her and called dispatch.  Some items were in the package but some were missing.  The owner of the package was contacted.  This case is being investigated.

10:11 AM- An animal bite was reported at Amory Park.  The responding officer spoke with the two dog owners involved.  One dog owner explained that his dog was bit by the other dog owner’s dog.  The officer observed the complainants dogs to have a fresh wound, bleeding on its right rear end.  The dog was transported by the owner to the veterinarian for treatment and a follow-up request from an Animal Control officer was made.

Friday, August 10th

11:30 PM- An officer was dispatched to Cypress Street for a bat call.  The reporting party stated on the previous day his son discovered a bat flying in his bedroom when he came home.  There was a pet in the home at the time of the incident.  The Brookline Health Department was notified of possible exposure to the dog.  The officer was unable to locate the bat.  The reporting party was advised to contact an animal control company. 

5:20 PM- A Brookline Resident reported his bicycle stolen on Commonwealth Ave in an alley.  He reported he locked his bike to a bike rack with several other bikes on it.  While he was in the gym for approximately an hour and a half the bike had been taken.  He found the cable lock cut and on the ground.  The bike was a Black Specialized Mountain Style men’s bicycle.  A request for nearby surveillance footage has been made.  This case is being investigated.

5:45 PM- A larceny report was made on a cell phone on Beacon Street.  The caller stated that he met with an individual he met on a dating app.  The individual went over to his apartment and stayed for about 20 minutes.  The reporting party’s phone was close by him the entire time.  After the person left, the caller noticed his phone was not where he left it.  He searched his apartment and still could not find it.  The reporting party returned to the app to find the name of the individual but could not locate the profile.  This case is under investigation.

Thursday, August 9th

1:08 AM- An officer responded to Addington Road for a bat call.  The tenants told the officer they awoke from their sleep because one of them was struck in the head.  When they woke up they noticed a bat flying around their bedroom.  The officer advised the tenants that the incident constitutes a potential exposure to the rabies virus and the bat should be captured and tested.  Animal control was contacted and the tenants were further advised to follow up with their health care providers.  The Brookline Health Department was made aware of the situation as well. 

5:45 AM- A report of a bat inside a home was made on Griggs Terrace.  The caller informed the police that a bat has been in his house for about ten days.  He called an animal control company but they were unable to apprehend the bat.  Today he heard the bat in a room and managed to trap it in a bag.  The officer called Animal Control to capture and test the bat.  The caller was advised to have all possibly exposed parties seek medical treatment. 

7:58 AM- A larceny report was made on Pearl Street.  An employee for an iron working company explained that equipment had been stolen from inside their construction site.  The equipment is big and heavy, requiring more than one person to move and transport them.  This case is under investigation.

10:33 AM- Officers were dispatched to Beacon Street for a report of a shoplifting incident.  The caller claimed the suspect had just left the store and was heading in the direction of The Paper Store.  The caller also gave a detailed description of the suspect.  One of the two store owners noticed an individual spending time by the displays in the rear of the store.  She called her husband, the second owner of the store who was not present at the time.  He activated the security cameras remotely where he viewed the individual take items.  The suspect then asked to use the restroom where he spent a questionable amount of time.  After he left the store, the owner contacted police and checked the bathroom where she found a store tag.  Police apprehended the subject down the street from the store.  The store owner confirmed the apprehended person was the person she viewed and talked with in the store.  The suspect was placed under arrest.

11:31 AM- A shoplifting incident report was made at Stop and Shop Supermarket on Harvard Street.  A store employee explained to the officer that he witnessed the suspect place several items inside his backpack and attempt to exit the store.  He was stopped by the employee before he could leave the supermarket.  The suspect admitted to his actions and agreed to accompany the employee to an office and wait for police to arrive.  When an officer arrived, the suspect was advised of his Miranda Rights.  He then admitted to the crime and two previous shoplifting incidents at the same location and notified the officer of two warrants existing for his arrest.  The warrants were confirmed by the officer.  The suspect was placed under arrest.

Wednesday, August 8th

6:22 AM- An officer responded to a call on Davis Ave regarding a bat inside a house.  The caller notified the officer on arrival that he believed the bat had been in the home since August 6^th.  The caller and his wife have slept in the home for the past two days and are unsure if they have been exposed.  They were advised to seek medical attention and notified that an Animal Control Officer would arrive shortly after 7:00 AM to attempt to capture the bat.

Tuesday, August 7th

6:45 PM- An officer was dispatched to Thorndike Street for a report of a past larceny.  The reporting party stated that her laptop had been taken from her bedroom.  She reported that she left her home on August 2^nd around 6:00 AM to go on a trip.  She believed she left her laptop on her bed plugged into her laptop’s charger.  When she returned home on August 7^th around 1:30 AM she discovered her laptop was missing.  She was sure that she did not take the laptop with her on her trip and claimed she looked everywhere for it when she returned.  The officer spoke to the roommate that was home who informed him that on August 3^rd she had a social gathering in her and the complainants apartment.  There had been between fifteen and twenty people in the apartment between 9:30 PM and 12:30 AM.  She did not know everyone at the party.  The roommate claimed to have closed her roommate’s door which was left unlocked.  She does not recall seeing anyone enter the bedroom.  Alcohol was a component in the gathering so the focus was not on ensuring the bedroom remained unoccupied by the guests.  This case is being investigated.

Monday, August 6th

1:30 PM- Animal control responded to a report of a dog bite that occurred on 8/3/18 on the corner of Bonad and Asheville Road.  The reporting party stated that she was walking her dog when she noticed another dog walker with a dog.  She began to walk away.  The approaching dog walker told her that his dog was friendly and continued to approach her and her dog.  He gave both his dog and hers treats.  When he gave a treat to her dog, his dog attacked hers.  No injuries were observed at first but when owner of the attacked dog got home, she noticed a laceration on her dog’s chest.  The other dog walker in the incident confirmed the claims when contacted and stated that his dog has not done this before.  The dog walker was cited for injuring another domestic animal.

2:55 PM- An officer responded to Heath Street for a larceny report.  The caller told the officer that she removed her jewelry on Tuesday the 31^st to prepare for an appointment.  She left her jewelry in her apartment for safe keeping.  When she went to put on her jewelry the following morning she could not locate it.  She continued to search for it until 8/6/18 when she reported the items missing.  The officer tried to help the caller look around her apartment in case she misplaced the items but they did not find them.  This case is under investigation.

Saturday, August 4th

1:19 PM- An officer responded to a call regarding a larceny on Hammond Pond Parkway. 
The caller explained to the officer on scene that around 12:00 PM she was looking through her drawer in her bedroom and noticed it seemed a “little empty”.  Upon looking around she noticed jewelry missing.  These findings led her to inspect her closet.  There she noticed items were moved around.  Her office had been tampered with as well.  The item taken from her office contained personal information regarding her accounts.  The caller looked throughout the rest of the apartment and found no other items to be missing or moved.  After inquiry the officer was made aware that no one else had keys to the apartment besides management or maintenance but, they had not stopped by recently. 
This case is under investigation.

5:35 PM- A report was made on several bicycle thefts occurring to the same Brookline resident.

The first bicycle theft occurred on 7/8/18 to 7/9/18. A blue children’s bicycle was stolen from the reporting party’s front walkway.  The bicycle was unlocked.

The second bicycle theft occurred between the overnight hours of 7/28/18 into 7/29/18.  A blue Giant brand adult bicycle and grey Giant brand adult bicycle were stolen from the caller’s front walkway.  The bikes were locked to each other but not to an immovable object.    

The third bicycle theft occurred in the late evening to overnight hours of 8/1/18 into 8/2/18.  A 2016 silver Raleigh Cadent 2 adult bicycle was stolen from the reporting party’s backyard.  The bicycle and gate leading to the backyard were both unlocked. 

6:00 PM- An officer was dispatched to Highland Road for a report of a theft of a license plate.  The caller stated that he noticed his license plate was missing from the front of his vehicle on 8/4/18 but does not recall the last instance when he saw the plate on the vehicle.  This case is under investigation.

August 2, 2018

2:12 PM

Officers were dispatched to a business on Harvard Street for a past shoplifting report.  The manager stated that several items were taken by a known female shoplifter.  The manager stated that at 12:42 PM a female came in and began to shoplift numerous items of clothing including shirts, hats, backpacks, and flip flops. A total value of approximately $216.00 

After a review of the video surveillance the female party is seen walking through the store and picking up items along the way.  A store employee talks with her and takes back some items that they observed her taking, but she returns to the isles and removes more clothing items before she leaves the store at 12:55 PM.  The party is described as a black female, late teens to twenties, with shoulder length braided black hair that was tied up.  She was wearing a white stripped short sleeve shirt and jean shorts. The manager stated she was unfamiliar with the party, but that other employees recognized her from prior shoplifting events several months back. The police are investigating.

August 3, 2018

3:44 AM

An Officer was working a paid detail and was assigned to the intersection of Amory and Dummer Streets for the overnight Commonwealth Avenue Bridge Project.

The Officer noticed a male party rummaging through a blue vehicle parked on Amory Street. The Officer noticed that it was not the same person who had parked the car there some hours earlier. Previously, when the vehicle was parked, the Officer observed the operator to be an older male who was working at the Bridge Project. He now observed a younger male rummaging through the vehicle. The male then exited the car holding a white cable car charger. He then began walking to Dummer Street, and then taking a right in the direction of Saint Paul Street. The Officer followed the male party and stopped him. During a field interview the male stated that it was his car, however he could not produce keys, or any proof that he owned the motor vehicle. A short time later the male stated that his charger was not working, and when he saw the charger inside the car; he just took it. The suspect was arrested for Breaking and Entering in the Night time. 

Wednesday, August 1st

8:00 AM- A bat call was made to the Brookline Police Department expressing a bat siting on Tappan Street.  The caller explained to the responding officer that on the morning of 8/1/18 around 12:30 AM she was awakened by the sound of something flying.  When she rose and turned on the lights she discovered a bat.  She explained that she used a container and captured it.  Animal Control came to the residence and transported the bat to a lab for testing.  This case is closed.

Tuesday, July 31st

An officer responded to Harvard Street for a report of a package theft.  The reporting party stated that she ordered a package which had been delivered on 7/30/18 at 1:50 PM.  The package was placed in the vestibule of the residence.  The spouse of the reporting party told officers, when he arrived shortly after 4:00 PM he found the package ripped open and the contents removed.  The neighbors had handled the package as well, placing it in the vestibule.  Police are pursuing further inquiry.

Officers reported to Amory Park pursuant to an animal disturbance incident that occurred on 6/23/18 and calls regarding it, following the incident.  The delay in an investigation immediately following the incident was due to a lack of compliance on behalf of the dog owner whose dog made aggressive advances.  The incident involved two persons and their dogs.  A park intern witnessed a dog of Boxer breed pounce on top of another dog of Lab Retriever and Boxer breed mix.  The park intern and numerous dog owners were present when the matter occurred.  The dog owner of the canine aggressor rushed over toward the two dogs and retrieved his dog.  The park intern approached the aggressor’s owner who presented to be uncooperative.  No bites or injuries were reported.  After being briefed on the situation, an officer spoke with the victim’s owner who claimed the other dog attacked her dog five times prior to the reported incident.  No reports were made of these priors and after conducting a system search it was found that the canine aggressor had no record of attacks or biting’s.  The complainant claimed the other dog is aggressive and should not be allowed in the dog program.  She also claimed that there are other victims of attacks by the supposed dog.  After speaking with several dog owners, police were made aware that the aggressing dog has displayed such character toward dogs of smaller size but not his size or larger.  This case is being investigated by Brookline Animal Control.

3:30 PM- A report was made at the station regarding a larceny on Washington Street.  The Brookline resident reported a stolen Razor Scooter.  The scooter was placed in the foyer of the Main Library on 7/31/18 around 3:30 PM.  When the complainant returned to the foyer around 6:15 PM, the scooter was gone.  The scooter was described as a silver and pink Razor Scooter with two wheels and non-motorized.  This case is under investigation, seeking video surveillance.

Monday, July 30th

8:30 AM- An officer was dispatched to Heath Street for a report on a breaking and entering and larceny of a motor vehicle.  The caller stated that she parked her vehicle in the staff parking lot around 8:00 PM on 7/29/18.  She left the doors unlocked.  When she returned to her car around 7:00 AM the following day she noticed her car had been tampered with.  The center console was open and the contents were scattered over her seats.  This case is under investigation.

6:37 PM- Officers responded to Beacon Street for a report of a larceny of a bicycle.  The caller expressed that he locked his bike with a “U-Lock” on Carlton Street around 9:30 PM on Saturday July 28^th.  When he went to retrieve his bike around 6:30 AM the following day his bike was absent.  The complainant described the bike as a black specialized road bicycle with blue writing and both an “MGH” and “Brookline Tenant” sticker on it.  Officers are pursuing this case, seeking possible surveillance.

Sunday, July 29th

10:41 AM- Officers reported to Egmont street for a reported open window.  The reporting party stated that when she woke up around 8:30 AM she noticed that her kitchen window was slightly open and the window screen was higher than she normally places it.  She did not notice anything missing from the apartment.  Officers observed thumb prints on the window in a manner suggesting someone attempting to open the window from the outside.  The officers noticed a window of the neighboring unit had been tampered with as well and the ground appeared to have been stepped on below the window.  Upon encountering individuals exiting the neighboring unit an officer asked them if they knew anything about the incident and they stated that they had been locked out of the unit and tried to gain entry through the window and mistakenly attempted entry through the other unit’s window.  This case is closed.

Saturday, July 28th

11:09 AM- An officer arrived on Thorndike Street for a malicious damage report.  The caller stated that she believed a delivery driver from the previous night had damaged her spouse’s vehicle.  The home has a surveillance camera installed near the front doorbell.  The night of the incident the caller was expecting a food delivery by an unaffiliated delivery service from a local restaurant.  She noticed the car pull up to her house and the driver remained inside the vehicle.  The delivery driver called her and stated that he could not find the address and she notified him that he was at the correct address.  When the delivery man came to the door to with the food, the caller and him got into an argument over the delay.  The caller stated that the man left her doorstep angry and hovered around the garage area.  The family had recently purchased a new car which was located in front of the garage.  The morning after, the caller’s husband went outside and found his vehicle significantly scratched on the rear.  The scratches looked like key marks to the observer.  He called the police and his wife made a complaint with the delivery company about the unprofessionalism of the driver and the car scratches.  She knew the first name of the delivery driver and a phone number.  The surveillance camera footage was turned over to police which depicts the suspect scratching the car.  This case is being investigated.

5:00 PM- A report of malicious damage to a motor vehicle was made on Juniper Street.  The caller stated that she left her car in her parking space in the parking lot in the rear of her apartment complex.  She did this on the night of July 27^th.  The following day when she went to her vehicle she observed damage to the rear right quarter panel of her vehicle.  She believed it looked as though another vehicle tried to back into the spot next to hers and ended up backing into her vehicle.  The apartment complex has assigned parking.  The complainant stated that she knew who the parking spot belonged to and that the occupier is away for the week.  She has noticed many vehicles not assigned to spaces occupying parking spaces.  The same incident had occurred to the left rear of her vehicle on July 25^th but she had not reported it.  The officer observed the damage to both sides of her vehicle.  The complainant stated that the area where her car is located has a lack of lighting and that she finds bottles of urine by her car frequently.  She believes there are parking space trespassers.  There were no security cameras in the area to observe.  The caller was advised to contact her insurance company.

5:21 PM- An officer was dispatched to Heath Street for a report of a larceny.  A student reported that he placed a suitcase in a communal area in the building while he was waiting to leave to return home.  He was scheduled to move out in a few hours.  He left the suitcase unattended for approximately an hour and forty-five minutes.  When he returned to the community room his suitcase was gone.  He contacted campus security who was not able to locate the luggage and advised him to contact police and make a report.

A local utility company responded to a report of a siting of bones on a job site.  An anthropologist determined that the bones were of a horse.

Friday, July 27th

3:16 PM- An officer responded to TJ MAXX on Harvard St. for a reported shoplifting incident.  The officer met with the loss prevention officer at the store who stated that two young males entered the store around 3:00 PM and shoplifted several items.  The employee showed the officer a video of the suspects.  The video shows one of the persons involved placing several items of clothing inside his book bag.  The second person was not observed taking any items from the store.  When the individual who was observed concealing items tried to exit the store without paying, the complainant tried to stop him unsuccessfully.  This case is being investigated.

5:25 PM- A larceny report was made at Heath St.  When an officer arrived at the location he met the complainant who stated that there had been four burglaries and one larceny reported to her.  These incidents were said to have occurred between 8:00 AM on Tuesday 7/24/18 and 5:00 PM on Friday 7/27/18.  Units in this location are rented out to an outside institution in the summer.  One of the residents affected stated that the master key could have been taken out of the staff office in the room next to hers or a copy could have been made.  The responding officer was not able to locate or contact the other reporting parties.  The caller stated that all the residents assigned for the first half of summer were leaving Saturday 7/28/18.  The same officer went to the location a second time to see if any remaining residents had noticed anything suspicious or had another incident.  He was made aware of several more incidents.  One witness was in his unit when a male opened his room door, peered in and closed the door when he noticed it was occupied.  This case is under investigation.

Thursday, July 26th

8:50 PM- The complainants stated that on 7/25/18 around 8:30 AM that they had employees of an air conditioning company come to their home and fix their air conditioner.  The family had used this company in the past with no issues.  The caller stated that she had been with two of the three employees almost the entire time they were working in her home.  She knew two of the employees from previous jobs having been done on her property.  The employee she was not familiar with stated that he needed to check the vents in the other rooms.  The workers finished and left the home around 1:30 PM.  The following day the complainant noticed items were missing from her jewelry box.  A cleaning service is also frequently used in the home but it is the same employee every time with an occasional extra person.  The resident does not believe the cleaning service was involved with the larceny.  This case is under investigation.

Wednesday, July 25th

3:55 PM- Officers responded to a report of a missing scooter.  The reporting party stated that she left her scooter outside of a business on Washington Street in Washington Square for about ten to fifteen minutes.  When she exited the store she noticed her scooter was missing and an item that she had left on the scooter was now sitting on a table outside the store.  The police were able to get a description of the powered scooter and canvassed the area in attempts to locate it. An Officer noticed the described bike being operated the wrong way down University Road. The Officer stopped the man riding it and began asking him questions.  He asked the man to get off the scooter, so he could further investigate. As the man got off the scooter, the Officer instructed him to sit on the curb. The man motioned as if he were going to sit and then began to run from the Officer. A foot pursuit ensued. The Officer requested back-up to assist him, and broadcast the now suspect’s description to responding units. The Officer lost site of the suspect as he ran in the area of Gardener Road. A short time later two Officers responding to search for the fleeing suspect saw a man fitting the description and stopped him on Griggs Road. The first Officer positively identified the suspect as the man who he stopped, and who ran from him. The suspect was placed under arrest for Larceny of a Motor Scooter, traffic offenses, and Failure to Stop for Police. The owner of the scooter confirmed that the scooter Police had found was her stolen scooter.

Detectives checked the surveillance cameras of the business and confirmed that the man who was seen taking the bike, was the man who was riding it when police stopped him. 

6:20 PM- An employee at a business on Harvard Street reported her phone missing to Brookline Police.  The employee put her phone down and turned away while doing something and when she turned back around she found that her phone was missing.  After asking other employees and cleaning personal if they had seen her phone she contacted police to report the incident.  This case is under investigation.

7:30 PM- A Brookline resident reported a stolen bike.  She habitually locked her bike to a bike rack at the Brookline Village T stop.  When she went to the bike rack on the night of 7/21/18 to get and use it, she found that it was gone.  The bike is described as a women’s silver Airen Sport, Diamond model bicycle with an orange stripe on the bar leading from the handle bars to the front tire.  This case is being investigated.

Tuesday, July 24th

11:60 AM- Officers responded with the Brookline Fire Department to Beacon Street for a fire alarm.  A van that pulled into a garage damaged a sprinkler head, causing the alarms to sound.  Brookline Fire Department turned off the water source, preventing further water damage and an officer took statements from the driver of the van and the resident.  The property owner was contacted as well. 

Monday, July 23rd

4:14 PM- An officer responded to Columbia Street for a reported theft of two bicycles.  The caller noticed the night prior that her two bikes were missing.  She stated that she had last seen the bikes hours prior to noticing they were missing.  One of the bicycles was black, the other was orange and they were 21 speeds.  The owner left the bicycles unlocked on the side of her yard.  There were many other unlocked bicycles on the side of the yard as well but none of them were stolen.  This case is under investigation.

9:05 PM- A larceny report was made on Freeman Street.  An officer arrived at the location and spoke with the reporting party.  The caller stated that she left her apartment around 7:15 AM and returned home around 8:45 PM.  When she went in her room and took off her jewelry to place them in her jewelry box she noticed the box was open and facing backwards (not like she left it).  She then noticed items were missing from the box.  The day that these items went missing is the same day a pest control company had tended to the apartment building.  An incident involving the same pest control company and a larceny occurred last week in the same building.  This case is being investigated.

Sunday, July 22nd

2:45 PM- A report of a shoplifting incident at a CVS on Commonwealth Avenue was made.  The suspect was described by Dispatch and an officer in the area identified a man following the description and pursued him.  The suspect placed the bag said to obtain the stolen items on the ground and tried to flee but was stopped when he lost his balance.  The suspect was advised of his Miranda Rights and he admitted to stealing products from the CVS.  He was identified by the store manager and arrested for the shoplifting incident. 

6:11 PM- Three officers responded to a CVS on Commonwealth Avenue for a reported shoplifting incident.  The suspects were described as two white males in their forties to fifties, wearing blue T-shirts, and khaki shorts.  Both suspects were riding bikes when fleeing the scene.  The caller who reported the incident stated that he noticed an item from the store in the bag of one of the suspects and tried to stop them but the suspects fled on their bikes.  Surveillance of the incident was turned over to Brookline Police.  This case is being investigated.

11:00 PM- An officer was dispatched to Saint Paul Street for a reported breaking and entering and larceny.  Upon arrival he met with two roommates, one of which had been out of town since 7/18/18 until the day of the report.  When he returned home he noticed several items missing from his room.  His roommate was gone for several hours on the previous day but locked the apartment.  The windows of the room where items were taken were unlocked.  This case is under investigation.

Saturday, July 21st

12:40 PM- A shoplifting incident was reported at Walgreens on Harvard Street.  The individual involved was said to have left the store and was traveling up the street in specified clothing.  An officer noticed the individual based on the described clothing provided by dispatch and pursued him.  Another officer arrived to assist the present officer.  The subject was stopped and advised of the reason for the stop and read his Miranda Rights.  The subject denied the accusation that he had stolen items from the store but soon after admitted to his actions.  One of the officers spoke with the store manager who explained the shoplifting incident he observed.  The store manager identified the suspect as the person he observed stealing items from the store.  This case is closed.

4:40 PM- An officer was dispatched to a CVS on Commonwealth Avenue for a reported shoplifting.  When the officer arrived at the scene he met with the store manager who stated that twenty minutes prior a white male approximately 6’2”, wearing a white t-shirt, dark-colored pants, and a black backpack attempted to steal three pairs of headphones.  The store manager confronted the suspect who then removed two pairs of headphones from his bag and left the store.  Dispatch provided the Brookline Police Department with the description of the suspect.  Officers searched the area for the individual and did not find him.  This case is under investigation.

Friday, July 20th

4:30 PM- An officer was dispatched to Dean Road for a report of a larceny.  The caller stated that her son and son’s friend were setting up a lemonade stand on the corner of Dean Road and Eliot Street as they do a few times a week.  Around 3:30 PM her son and his friend left the lemonade stand unattended while they went home to retrieve lemonade and a sign, a few houses away from the stand.  When the boys returned to the stand five minutes later, they noticed a chair and the plastic cups were missing.  This case is active.

4:57 PM- A package theft was reported on Vernon Street.  An officer reported to the scene of the caller to speak with two residents of an apartment building regarding their packages.  Both residents were expecting packages on the day of the theft.  When one of the tenants arrived home she noticed two packages in the locked common area.  One package was hers and the other was her roommate’s.  One of the packages was opened.  The caller brought both packages up to her apartment and discovered that the contents of her package had been removed and resealed.  Her roommate’s package had been opened but the contents were present.  The occupants of the apartment stated that they had another package taken earlier in the week as well.  This case is being investigated.

Thursday, July 19th

11:36 AM- A detective and officer were dispatched to Verndale Street for a breaking and entering of a motor vehicle on 7/18/18 around 7:00 PM.  The following morning when the caller went out to her vehicle she noticed items were missing.  This case is considered a larceny and is under investigation.

Wednesday, July 18th

5:30PM- An officer was dispatched to Freeman Street for a report of a breaking and entering.  In an apartment occupied by two Brookline residents, one arrived home to find dirt scattered around the apartment.  At first, the finding of dirt was not of concern.   During the resident’s search of the apartment for items necessary for upcoming traveling plans she noticed an item was not where she remembered placing it.  After walking around the apartment to see if she placed it somewhere else she observed an open window in the living room with a cut open screen of which was pulled off its frame.  More dirt was discovered under the open window and trailed to other rooms in the apartment.  When the second resident arrived home they scoured the apartment to determine if any other belongings were missing and discovered many items absent.  After reaching out to the apartment manager the tenants contacted Brookline Police.  This case is under investigation.

6:42PM- An officer was dispatched to Target on Commonwealth Ave. for a report of a shoplifting incident in the electronics section.  When officers arrived to the location they observed the described suspect around the intersection of Amory Street and Dummer Street.  A Target employee was also nearby the suspect pointing to him.  Two officers stopped the suspect, questioned him about having a red bag, a bag the Target employee described to have been used in the shoplifting incident.  After denial of having the bag, an officer retrieved the open bag from on top of a dumpster and observed unopened electronics inside.  The suspect was asked for his name and date of birth of which he gave.  After running his name, officers were made aware of many prior entries but no warrants on the suspect.  The Target employee claimed the suspect had been stealing from the store for two weeks on three separate occasions.  The employee identified the suspect as the individual conducting the shoplifting incidents.  The suspect was then searched, placed under arrest, and transported to The Brookline Police Station where he was booked.

Tuesday, July 17th

A report was made on 7/16/18 to a Brookline Animal Control Officer on a dog biting incident that occurred on 7/14/18 on Beacon Street.  An individual stated she was bitten by a dog when passing by a Brookline resident walking her dog.  The dog owner stated her dog is a puppy and got excited when the victim approached.  She then claimed her dog went up to the complainant but did not bite or scratch her.  This case is under investigation.

Monday, July 16th

8:40AM- An officer was dispatched to Washington St. for a larceny report.  The caller reported that sometime between 7/12/18 and 7/13/18 someone stole a bin of gardening supplies from her property.  This case is being investigated.

8:00PM- An officer responded to the Beaconsfield MBTA train station for a larceny of a motor vehicle report.  The complainant stated that she parked her car on Beaconsfield Rd. and got out of her vehicle to run to the train.  While running her car key slipped out of her hand.  At the time the complainant believed the key fell into her purse.  Later in the day she realized her key was missing.  Upon her return to the transit stop she discovered her car was missing.  This case is under investigation.

6:44PM- An officer was dispatched to Foster Street to take a report on a package theft.  The caller stated that three packages were stolen over the past ten days.   This case is under investigation.

Saturday, July 14th

4:38PM- A call was made reporting found property on Highland Road.  An officer was dispatched to the location where the property was collected and brought to the station.  The owner was contacted and the property was retrieved.

Friday, July 13th

8:35AM- A report was made on past shoplifting incidents at Target located on Commonwealth Ave.  An officer was dispatched to the location and met with a loss prevention employee.  The officer learned that the store has endured three shoplifting incidents in the past week.  The incidents occurred on  7/5/18, 7/7/18, and 7/9/18.  Each time the suspect entered the store with a bag and took primarily small electronic items, placed them in the bag and left quickly out the front door.  The suspect appears to be a white male, approximately 30-40 years old, thin build with a light beard.  In every incident the suspect wore blue athletic shorts with a white stripe along the side.  This case is under investigation.

9:53PM- An officer was dispatched to High Street to speak with a caller reporting a lost phone.   The complainant stated that he placed his phone on an infant changing table at Trader Joe’s while using the restroom around 8:15PM.  During his walk home he realized he left his phone and returned to the location.  Upon arrival he found his phone had been taken and was not turned into the staff.  This case is under investigation.
