Officer approached a vehicle that was still on the road with the engine running. Officer noticed a faint smell of alcohol and a moderate smell of fresh burnt marijuana and then saw a glass marijuana pipe sitting on the center console. When subject was woken up, he was dazed and speaking incoherently. Operator was placed arrest for Operating Under the Influence of Liquor, Operating Under the Influence of Drugs, and Obstructing the Free Flow of Traffic and issued a civil violation for Possession of Less than 1 ounce of Marijuana.
Breaking & Entering & Larceny: Occurred after 7/13 at 5:30pm - Boylston St
Service manager of a car dealership reported that a dealership loaner car was taken from his lot. Officer spoke with the previous user of the vehicle, and she stated that she left the keys to the loaner car at the desk, picked up her keys and paperwork and drove off the lot with her car. A stolen car report was filed.
Graffiti Law: 7/25 at 3:16pm - John St
Man received a complaint from a tenant that there was fresh graffiti in the rear of the building. The graffiti was done in black marker or spray paint on the metal casing housing a large steam vent. The Walk and Talk officers were notified.
Larceny: 7/25 at 3:52pm - Beacon St
Man reported that his IPad was taken from him while he was inside the post office. He stated that he placed his I-Pad on the table located in the middle of the post office. He stated that he walked away and left it there and returned to find it missing.
Accident: Occurred 7/23 at 4:50pm - Commonwealth Ave
Witness stated that he observed a taxi cab crash into a bicyclist and then take off. Witness spoke to the bicyclist but the bicyclist claimed he was fine and then walked away. Witness was able to take down the taxi cab’s license plate number. Two days later, a man came to the station to obtain a crash report regarding the incident. The officer on the scene was contacted and he attempted to ascertain the facts of the crash. The man stated that he was cut off by a taxi cab and he went up on the hood of the cab, rolled over the hood, and fell onto the ground. He claimed to have sustained some ankle discomfort and his bike was destroyed. Officer contacted the taxi cab driver and he claimed that the bicyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed in the opposite direction and that the bicyclist struck his cab as he was making a turn. Due to the inconsistencies of the stories, lack of evidence, and the fact that neither party contacted the police during the time of the crash to report it, no citations were issued to either operator.
Operating After Suspension: 7/25 at 3:21pm - Allandale Rd
Officer pulled over a car that was driving 40mph over the speed limit. Registration check revealed that the license was suspended. The operator was placed under arrest and was issued a citation for Speeding and Operating with a Suspended License.
Protective Custody: 7/25 at 2:50pm - Harvard St
Officers responded to a report of a female who appeared passed out on the steps. Upon questioning, the female was extremely uncooperative and attempted many times to walk away. Officers noticed that there was a strong odor of alcohol coming from her breath, her eyes were blood shot, her speech was slurred and she was unsteady on her feet. Officer concluded that she was impaired due to her consumption of liquor and she was placed in protective custody.
Accident: 7/25 at 10:25am – Boylston St
Officer noticed two vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed. As the officer attempted to stop the vehicles, the vehicle in back struck the vehicle in front. Both operators were not injured and declined medical attention. The vehicle in back was cited for Speeding and Following Too Closely. The front vehicle was cited for Speeding.

Operating After Suspension: 7/25 at 6:59am - Harvard St towards Beacon St
A random query of a vehicle’s registration revealed that the registered owner had a Failed Inspection Sticker and a Suspended license status. Subject was placed under arrest and charged with Operating After Suspension and Failed Inspection Sticker.
Breaking and Entering: Occurred 7/24 between 1:40pm – 6:35pm at Buckminister Rd
Officer was dispatched to take a Breaking and Entering and Larceny report at Buckminister Rd. Victim stated that her housemate returned home to find the home had been entered. A report was taken, case is still under investigation.
ID Fraud: 7/24 at 5:19pm – Egmont St
Male resident stated to be a victim of identity theft. The male stated that he received a phone call from an employee of a dealership in California, who explained that he was the victim of fraud. A car was purchased by a party claiming to be the resident and they were looking to get the car back due to non payment. Resident checked his bank, credit cards, and other financial accounts and there are no discrepancies.
Larceny: 7/24 at 3:30pm – Harvard ST
Loss Prevention employee had a suspect detained in his office for suspicious behavior. Employee observed the subject placing two unpaid eyeglass cases into a bag of paid merchandise. Based on the employee’s observation and security footage, suspect will be summonsed for shoplifting. Suspect was issued a verbal no-trespass order prohibiting his return to the store and was asked to leave.
Burglary: Occurred 7/23 between 10:30am – 12:00pm on Clinton Rd
Resident/victim stated that her home was broken into. It appears the suspect returned to the basement and exited through the rear door. The only part of the house that was targeted was the victim’s bedroom on the second floor. She reported that close to 50 pairs of earrings, 10-20 necklaces and bracelets were found missing. Victim claimed that when she left her house, there was a dark skinned white male, in his 20's slim with dark hair and facial hair wearing a gold colored shot sleeve shirt, walking suspiciously in front of her house at a slow pace.
Fire Building: 7/24 at 10:05am - Beacon St
Officer and the Fire Department was dispatched to a report of smoke coming from an apartment. After a forced entry was made, they discovered piece of wood smoldering on the stove. The small fire was put out by the fire department. Investigation revealed that a microwave fell off the shelf and hit the stove, which caused it to turn on. The piece of shelf that had broken off started to smolder and caught fire. No injuries reported.

Officer observed a vehicle proceed through the stop sign. Operator was placed under arrest and cited for unlicensed operation and a stop sign violation.

Police Report 7/18-7/21
Accident: 7/21 at 3:00am - Hammond Street
Officer observed a vehicle parked by the side of the road at Hammond Street and Laurel Road with the vehicles hazard light blinking. Victim stated that as she swerved to avoid an animal in the middle of the road way, her vehicle hit the curb and then struck a tree. Victim was not injured. A report was taken.
Operating after Suspension: 7/22 at 12:38am – Harvard St
Officer observed a vehicle that did not have a valid inspection sticker. A query of the driver’s registration revealed that he had a suspended license. Driver was placed under arrest and charged with the following offenses: Operating After Suspension (License) and Failure to Submit Motor Vehicle for Inspection.
Possession of Heroin: 7/21 at 7:50pm - Harvard St
Officer was dispatched for a person that was unconscious in a bathroom. As the subject regained consciousness, officer observed an opened hypothermic needle in the area where the subject was lying. When the door to the toilet stall was opened, in plain view there was a bottle cap with a brown substance -which the officer believed it to be heroin. Upon more investigation, officer revealed prescription pill bottles, and other pills. Subject was taken to the hospital and will be charged with possession of a class A heroin, and possession of a class E substance.
Fraud: 7/21 at 5:55am - Adams St
Officer responded to a report of a credit card fraud. Victim stated that she received an email suspicious activity on her credit card account. The illicit transactions were made in several different states with multiple charges. Victim stated she had possession of her credit card and does not know how it was compromised. She has since closed the account.
Robbery: 7/21 at 4:40pm - St. Paul and Parkman Streets
Officer observed two men beating another male at the corner of St. Paul St and Parkman St. Officer detained one the subject while the other fled. He was found later by another officer. He was staying at a hotel where officers removed an open cigarette pack from the subject’s pocket. The packet contained small plastic wrapped packets of powder- three of the small clear plastic baggies contained a tan powdery substance that was believed to be heroin and another clear plastic baggie contained a white powdery substance that was believed to be cocaine. Subjects were placed under arrest and transported to the station. The first subject was charged with assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, to wit, a shod foot, and unarmed robbery. The second subject was charged with assault and battery, unarmed robbery, Possession of a class A drug (heroin), and possession of a class B drug (cocaine). Ambulance was requested for the victim.

Officers responded to a report of suspicious activity. With a known description, another officer radioed that he had 3 parties stopped on the corner of Naples and Manchester. One subject had a bicycle and a backpack that was not his. The backpack contained his jacket, shirt, cell phone and wallet. Also inside the backpack was a large kitchen knife with the end of blade chipped off. Subjects were identified by the caller All three parties gave inconsistent stories and were unable to clearly state where they had been or how they came to be in the area, furthermore they could not state why they were in the Brookline area or the driveway of the resident. Subjects were placed under arrest and charged with the following:
- Subject A: Juvenile Delinquent to WIT, Possession of Burglar Tools, Knife, Flashlight, multiple bike keys, Received Stolen Property, Attempted Breaking & Entering, Conspiracy

Officer responded to a call that there a subject "slumped over the wheel inside a motor vehicle" at the above listed intersection. Officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and was subject observed to be unsteady on his feet when exiting his vehicle. Subject was placed under arrest for the following: Blocking Intersection, Obstructing Motor Vehicle Traffic, Operating Under the Influence (Liquor).
Loud Noise: 7/21 at 12:12am - Freeman St
Officers responded to a report of a noise complaint. Officers heard loud music coming from the residence and observed people in the apartment from the open windows. The resident of the apartment stated he was having a birthday party for one of his friends and the music got a little loud. He was issued a Town By-Law for Nuisance Control.
Accident: 7/20 at 4:30pm – Webster St
Officer was informed by a subject that he had just had a car accident and needed the officer’s assistance. Subject explained that he drove out of a parking lot and drove in the wrong direction. He got distracted and his vehicle struck a parked vehicle. Subject was issued for a One Way Violation. The owner of the parked vehicle was unable to be contacted.
Larceny: Occurred between 7/18 at 11:00am – 7/20 at 12:00am – Winslow Rd
Bicycle was left on enclosed porch at the front entrance to the house. The door to the porch wasn't locked. There were no signs of forced entry.

Subject was pulling out of her parking spot when she lost control of the vehicle and struck a parked car on the opposite side of the road. No one was injured. Subject was issued a Motor Vehicle Citation for Failure to use care when starting and stopping.

Larceny: Occurred 7/14 between 2pm-3:30pm – Center St Lot
Victim reported that her purse was taken from her vehicle. Purse contained two prescriptions. She believes she may have left the doors unlocked.
Accident Multiple MV: 7/19 at 2:23pm – Harvard St
Officer responded to a report of a minor motor vehicle accident. Operator stated that the vehicle behind her had driven into the rear of her vehicle. Neither party sustained any injuries.
Larceny: Occurred 7/13 between 12:15pm-7pm – Egmont St
Victim stated that her package was stolen from the foyer of her building. She was informed that her package had been delivered at 12:15pm.

Officers conducted a search warrant and a subsequent arrest of a known graffiti tagger in Brookline. He and another known avid tagger had been responsible for over 400 documented accounts of graffiti tags seen throughout the town. Officers sent a request for an arrest warrant, as well as, a search warrant for the other tagger’s place of residence.

Officers noticed two graffiti tags. The first tag was painted in white and red colors and the second tag in red spray paint. The tags were "PH" and "PHOP..."
• 7/5 at 6:15pm – Chestnut Hill Ave
Officers overlooked the Reservoir Train Tracks which is known to be a high crime area for graffiti. Upon arrival, officers, observed six "PHOP" tags on the walls of the train tracks.
• 7/19 at 6:32pm – Beaconsfield Rd
Offices observed two distinct graffiti tags that was in black spray paint and read "P.HO.P".
Accident Bicycle: 7/19 at 5:49pm - Harvard St and Aspinwall Ave
Police units responded to a report of a traffic crash involving a bicycle at the intersection of Harvard St and Aspinwall Ave. Operator of the vehicle relayed that a bicyclist had ridden directly into the back of her vehicle. Witness claimed that the bicyclist was riding erratically by weaving between stopped motor vehicle traffic. The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet and was observed to be extremely disoriented with a possible head injury. He was attended to by the ambulance and taken to the hospital. Bicyclist issued By-Law citation for improper (unsafe) passing of vehicles.

Officer was dispatched to Kilsyth Rd for a report of a stolen license plate. Victim arrived home and noticed that the front plate from the vehicle was missing.
Assault: 7/19 at 9:04pm - Harvard St and Verndale St
Officer was dispatched to the area of for a medical emergency by a caller reporting of a male party who was "passed out." Officer observed a subject sleeping on a town bench surrounded by items and trash, including a full unopened beer can and a full unopened nip size bottle of whiskey. The subject became furious when woken up and constantly shouted comments that could not be understood due to the severity of his slurred speech. He was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct.
Assault: 7/20 at 12:12am – Beacon St
Officer pulled over a vehicle that neglected to stop at a red light. Officer was informed by dispatch that the operator’s license had been revoked. The vehicle was turned over to the operator’s friend, who was in the car. Operator was issued a citation and will be summonsed to court for the following offenses, Marked Lanes Violation, Operating after Revocation.
Assault: 7/20 at 1:00am – Commonwealth Ave
Victim stated that she was going out for a walk, when she encountered a female subject who she had an open case against her. Victim feared for her safety and ran back and hid inside the park. The subject chased the victim in and out of the park with a knife in her hand. Neither verbal nor physical contact was made between the victim and the subject during the chase. Officers were unable to locate the woman. Victim described her as a black female, wearing white shirt, beige shorts, and grey shoes and walking a black dog. Officers have requested an arrest warrant on the subject for the following offense; Assault Dangerous Weapon (knife), Intimidation of a Witness, Threats to Commit a Crime.
Armed Robbery: 7/20 at 1:48am –Murphy Park on the corner of Brook St. and Kent St
Multiple units responded to a case of an armed robbery with a firearm that just occurred in Murphy Park. The description of the suspect given to responding units was a dark skinned black male with short hair wearing tan/khaki cargo shorts and a red short-sleeve shirt. The reporting parties also stated that the subject was possibly in his early twenties or late teens with a thin build. Victims stated that the suspect approached them and revealed a black colored semi-automatic type handgun down by his right side. Suspect requested for the victim’s phone and then fled. 5-7 minutes later, an officer spotted a subject fitting the description of the suspect. The recovered gun was identified as a pellet gun. Suspect will be charged for the following: 2 counts of Armed Robbery (Gun), Possession with intent to distribute class D, Possession with intent to distribute within a 1,000 feet of a school zone/park.

Larceny: Occurred 7/19 between 3:30pm -6pm – Kilsyth Rd
Officer was dispatched to Kilsyth Rd for a report of a stolen license plate. Victim arrived home and noticed that the front plate from the vehicle was missing.
Assault: 7/19 at 9:04pm - Harvard St and Verndale St
Officer was dispatched to the area of for a medical emergency by a caller reporting of a male party who was "passed out." Officer observed a subject sleeping on a town bench surrounded by items and trash, including a full unopened beer can and a full unopened nip size bottle of whiskey. The subject became furious when woken up and constantly shouted comments that could not be understood due to the severity of his slurred speech. He was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct.
Assault: 7/20 at 12:12am – Beacon St
Officer pulled over a vehicle that neglected to stop at a red light. Officer was informed by dispatch that the operator’s license had been revoked. The vehicle was turned over to the operator’s friend, who was in the car. Operator was issued a citation and will be summonsed to court for the following offenses, Marked Lanes Violation, Operating after Revocation.
Assault: 7/20 at 1:00am – Commonwealth Ave
Victim stated that she was going out for a walk, when she encountered a female subject who she had an open case against her. Victim feared for her safety and ran back and hid inside the park. The subject chased the victim in and out of the park with a knife in her hand. Neither verbal nor physical contact was made between the victim and the subject during the chase. Officers were unable to locate the woman. Victim described her as a black female, wearing white shirt, beige shorts, and grey shoes and walking a black dog. Officers have requested an arrest warrant on the subject for the following offense; Assault Dangerous Weapon (knife), Intimidation of a Witness, Threats to Commit a Crime.
Armed Robbery: 7/20 at 1:48am –Murphy Park on the corner of Brook St. and Kent St
Multiple units responded to a case of an armed robbery with a firearm that just occurred in Murphy Park. The description of the suspect given to responding units was a dark skinned black male with short hair wearing tan/khaki cargo shorts and a red short-sleeve shirt. The reporting parties also stated that the subject was possibly in his early twenties or late teens with a thin build. Victims stated that the suspect approached them and revealed a black colored semi-automatic type handgun down by his right side. Suspect requested for the victim’s phone and then fled. 5-7 minutes later, an officer spotted a subject fitting the description of the suspect. The recovered gun was identified as a pellet gun. Suspect will be charged for the following: 2 counts of Armed Robbery (Gun), Possession with intent to distribute class D, Possession with intent to distribute within a 1,000 feet of a school zone/park.

West Nile Virus Detected in Brookline
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) has confirmed the presence of West Nile Virus in mosquitoes collected in South Brookline near the West Roxbury line. This indicates that the virus may be present in mosquitoes throughout the Town.
The period of highest risk for getting either West Nile Virus or the Eastern Equine Encephalitis (two mosquito-borne viruses that can cause encephalitis or - swelling of the brain) can be from late July through the fall. Mosquitoes get WNV and EEE by biting infected birds, and thus, people and animals can get these diseases by being bitten by the infected mosquitoes.
Most people bitten by mosquitoes carrying WNV will experience mild to no symptoms, and will be able to recover on their own. Persons over 50 years of age have the highest risk of severe WNV disease. People who are bitten by mosquitoes carrying EEE tend to experience more sever symptoms. Severe symptoms of both diseases include:
• High fever
• Muscle weakness
• Headache
• Disorientation
• Neck stiffness
• Paralysis
• Coma
• Tremors
• Convulsions
• And in rare cases – Death
There is currently no vaccine or medical cure for these illneses. In severe cases, intensive medical therapy such as intravenous (IV) fluids and nutrition, and ventilator support can be administered in hospitals. There is no evidence that a person can get these viruses from handling live or dead infected birds or animals. However, gloves should be worn when handling any dead animals and double plastic bags used to discard them in the trash.

The Brookline Department of Public Health is involved in active surveillance for mosquito-borne viruses. In June, MDPH has been collecting and testing mosquitoes as they provide a more reliable indication of current WNV activity than do dead birds.
Initiatives to address mosquito-borne viruses this Summer and Fall:
• Larvicide is being applied to targeted catch basins and some wetland areas to prevent hatching of new mosquitoes
• Mosquito Traps have been established and Mosquito Pools are being tested for the virus
• Inspection and enforcement of standing water areas in parks, fields, tires, etc.
• Spraying to kill adult mosquitoes may be done, only if necessary, and if recommended by State. Every effort will be made to notify residents of any spraying beforehand.
How can I protect myself?...Avoid Bites!
• Avoid outdoor activity between dusk and dawn. If you must be outdoors when mosquitoes are active:
o Wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and socks
o Cover baby carriages or playpens with mosquito netting
o Use mosquito repellent
(Repellants containing DEET are most effective – DEET should NOT be used on infants. This year, the CDC recommends products which contain either the chemical Picaridin – found in Cutter Advances, products containing the oil of lemon eucalyptus,. Alternatives to DEET that can be used for a duration of 1 hour are):

• Avon Skin-So-Soft Plus IR3535
• Buzz Away
• Neem Oil
• Soybean Oil
• Avoid areas that tend to have a lot of mosquitoes – wetlands or swampy areas
• Fix holes in all window and door screens

Caller reported that he noticed graffiti on the wall in the front part of the building. He suspects it was done within the past week. The graffiti officers were notified for photographs.

Police Reports 7/17
Breaking & Entering: 7/17 between 6:30pm-6:35pm – Akers Ave
Victim stated he left his home for approximately 5 minutes
to walk his dog. He returned to find a camera, watch, ring, and other handled
items from all rooms of the home. No sign of forced entry was observed.
Officers processed the scene and a follow up was made by the detective
division.
Leave Scene Accident: 7/17 at 8:55am – Chestnut St
Officer responded to a report of a past Hit and Run. Victim
stated that her vehicle was struck on the right front side by her neighbor.
Victim stated that the neighbor did not attempt to exchange paperwork and
instead drove off. Neighbor will be charged for Leaving the Scene of a Property
Damage Accident.
Operating
after Revocation: 7/17 at 7:50am – Juniper St at Washington
Officer pulled over a car that neglected to stop at a solid
red signal. Registration check showed a revoked status on the operator’s
license. Subject was placed under arrest. He will charged with Operating after
Suspension and Providing a False Name.
Operating after Revocation: 7/17 at 10:23am – Southbound on Harvard St
A random query of a vehicle’s registration revealed that the
vehicle's registered owner had a suspended drivers license. Brookline Dispatch
confirmed the suspended license and the subject was placed under arrest. During
the booking search, officers recovered a green leafy substance believed to be
marijuana was located on the subject. Subject will be charged with Operating
after Suspension and will also be issued a Town By-Law Ticket for possession of
one ounce or less of marijuana.
Larceny: Occurred on 6/13 - Harvard St
Victim reported an unauthorized charge from her company’s
business account. She received information from the bank that the electronic
payment was referenced to a resident of Chelsea,
MA. Officers attempted to contact
the suspect with no success. A criminal application was filed for larceny by
false pretense.
Assault: Occurred 7/17 at 6:45pm-6:46pm – Harvard St
Officer was alerted to a fight, where he observed two male
subjects in a bike lane arguing and making a scene. Both parties were
immediately separated. Subject A stated that Subject B yelled at him and
approached him in a threatening manner. Subject A claimed he pushed Subject B
in self defense. Witness statements and video footage revealed that Subject A
swung an unknown object towards Subject B. Subject A was placed under arrest
for Assault Danger Weapon, Assault and Battery, and Disorderly Person. Subject
B was placed under arrest for Disorderly Person and issued a citation for
Soliciting without a permit.
Assault:

Police
units were dispatched for a dispute between two male acquaintances. Caller
reported that he was approached from behind by a party who wrapped the
broomstick around the front of his neck, and applied pressure until the
broomstick snapped. No medical attention was required. Subject had since left
the scene. Based on the victim and witness statements, and the recovery of the
weapon involved, subject was placed under arrest for Assault and Battery with a
Dangerous Weapon.

Suspect Arrested for Burglary
On Sunday, July 15th 2012, Officer responded to a call for a motor vehicle theft at Francis St. Victim stated that on the evening of July 14th, at around 8:00pm, he noticed that the door inside his house was left open. The next morning at 7:30am, his wife noticed that the same door was left open. They then noticed the car missing from their driveway at about 2:00pm. Several charges were made on the victims’ credit cards. From the home, a purse containing a set of keys was found missing, as well as, an IPad and a video camera. The victim felt that the suspect used the garage door opener to access the garage and entered a door that accessed the first floor of the apartment. None of the windows appeared disturbed - all windows were locked. After a Massachusetts Stolen Motor Vehicle Report was submitted, Boston Police notified Brookline Dispatch that they located the vehicle in the woods of Franklin Park. The car had been set on fire. The keys to the car were lying on the floor. The vehicle was towed back to the station for further processing and the victims were notified. The vehicle sustained extensive damage due to the fire. Evidence was obtained and submitted for analysis. Identification was matched to a resident of Dorchester. Officers reviewed video surveillance footage from a location where the suspect used the victim’s credit cards. Video footage confirmed the suspect’s identity to the evidence obtained from the car. Officers investigated the suspect’s known home address and place of employment. With the warrant issued, the police were able to locate and arrest the suspect. He will be charge

Complainant reported that his car had a flat tire after it was left in a parking lot. There was no evidence of damage and the rest of the car appeared in tact.
Operating After Suspension: 7/17 at 4:45am – Babcock St
Subject was arrested and charged with Operating after Suspension. Car was towed and the license was confiscated.
Graffiti Law: 7/17 at 3:42am - Boylston St
While conducting a building check, officer noticed a recent graffiti tag. Tag read “SMOOTH!” Graffiti Unit was notified.

Victim stated that her son’s phone was stolen after he was playing basketball. The phone was left in a gym bag which was placed on the bleachers near the basketball courts.

Officer responded to a report of a past residential Breaking and Entering. Victims returned home to find the back door open and items moved around the house. Engagement ring, diamond watch, laptop, and video camera were all found missing.

Victim stated that his scooter had been vandalized by means of spray paint. Because the scooter was reported stolen a while back, the victim was concerned that the individual who had originally stolen his scooter had come back to vandalize it as a means of revenge. There was no illness or injury reported.

Officer responded to an open door call. The front door bolt had been smashed, alarm key was taken off the wall, and there was an audible alarm sounding. Officer discovered a screw driver on the floor in the hallway near the master bedroom. Entry was gained through the front foyer door using the screw driver and there was a pry mark on the front foyer door. The apartment appeared intact and nothing appeared disturbed.

Victim came to the station for a report of identity theft. She stated that she filed her taxes on 4/10/2012 and since had not received them. According to the IRS, someone else had already attempted to file a return with the victims name, DOB, and social security number. Investigation is being made. Social Security and the Credit Bureau had been notified.

Police Reports 7/14-7/16
Accident: 7/16 at 3:15am – Washington St
Subject stated that he fell asleep while operating his vehicle, which resulted in his vehicle striking a tree. Subject was in stable condition, with non-incapacitating injuries. Officers discovered that the subject never sought a driver’s license. He was charged with the following charges: unlicensed operation, operating outside marked lanes, and impeded operation.
Operating After Suspension: 7/16 at 12:22am – Webster St
Officers observed a vehicle making an illegal U-Turn. Registration revealed that that the driver had a suspended license. Subject was placed under arrest and charged with: Operating after suspension, Illegal U-turn where posted, and Defective equipment.
Not Duly License: 7/15 at 11:45am – Washington St
A query of a motor vehicle revealed that the driver’s license had been revoked. Driver was charged with unlicensed operation and operating after registration revocation.

Woman reported some checks from her book were stolen. She did not see anyone take these items and there is no activity on the account. Account was cancelled.

Officers observed a vehicle making an illegal left turn from Harvard Street onto Beacon Street eastbound. A registry check revealed the subject’s a motor vehicle was suspended. Subject was placed under arrest and was charged with: operating after suspension and making a left turn where prohibited.

Officer responded to a report of a stolen cell phone report. Subject stated that she left her phone on her desk at around 10:00pm and returned the next day at 1:30pm to find her phone missing. She ‘pinged’ the phone at approximately 1:45am and it was moving on Centre St in Boston. At approximately 1400 hrs she ‘pinged’ the phone again and the phone had stopped moving at Armstrong St. in Boston. Part-time custodian stated he did not notice the phone while he was working today.
Animal Bite: 7/15 at 1:00am – Naples Rd
Officer responded for a report of a bat in the house. Victims explained that they were woken up by the bat and that both of them were exposed to the bat while they were asleep. Neither knows for sure if they were bit or not. The bat was captured and brought to the state lab for testing.
Burglary: Occurred 6/14 between 10:00pm- 6/15 9:00am – Kent St and Francis St
Officer responded to a call for a motor vehicle theft. There was also a missing IPad and a recent charge on their online banking account. Officers checked the other vehicles on Kent St. and Francis St. Out of the twelve vehicles in the immediate area that were parked in the driveways, six out of the twelve were unlocked. Neighbors reported nothing missing or disturbed in their vehicles. The vehicle was later found and towed back to the station for further processing by the detectives.
Malicious Damage: - Occurred 7/4 between 9:00am – 11:00pm Columbia St
Victim claimed he left his vehicle in front of his house from 9:00am – 11:00pm. The next morning, he noticed the rear license plate was folded upwards, and the rear wiper was missing. The wiper was found just ahead of where the vehicle was parked on the street. There was no other damage to the vehicle, and no witnesses to this crime.
Malicious Damage: 7/15 at 2:50am – Boylston St approaching Hammond St
Victim claimed he was struck by a partially full beer can. He was able to write down the suspect’s license plate number. Officer was able to identify that the vehicle was registered to a resident of Dedham. Dedham Police Department was contacted and they sent a car to the resident’s address. No vehicle was found and no contact was able to be made. At this time there is no way of knowing who was driving the vehicle or who may have thrown the beer can out of the vehicle. Victim did not see how many people were in the car and did not get any descriptions of the driver or any passengers.
Accident: 7/15 2:19am – Mountfort St/St. Mary’s St
Officer responded to the intersection of Mountford St and St. Mary's St for a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle. Pedestrian was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries suffered from the crash. Driver claimed that he never saw the pedestrian attempting to cross. Upon questioning, pedestrian stated that on her way home after having 4 or 5 drinks, she ran out into the street without looking for on coming traffic. Officers observed no skid marks, no gauges in the street, and the traffic light was functioning properly. Accident is still under investigation.

Officer observed a small pry mark on the bottom left side of the molding area to her window; which appears that the suspect(s) used a sharp screwdriver type instrument to smash the glass. At this time, the victim does not believe anything was taken but was advised to call again if she discovered something was stolen.
Larceny: 7/14 5:49pm – Harvard St
Subject was caught concealing security tags. 13 items were recovered from the store and other items from other store. She also had controlled medications in her possession. Subject was placed under arrest and charged with the following: Shoplifting, Receive Stolen Property, and Possession Class E.
Subject stated that he fell asleep while operating his vehicle, which resulted in his vehicle striking a tree. Subject was in stable condition, with non-incapacitating injuries. Officers discovered that the subject never sought a driver’s license. He was charged with the following charges: unlicensed operation, operating outside marked lanes, and impeded operation.
Operating After Suspension: 7/16 at 12:22am – Webster St
Officers observed a vehicle making an illegal U-Turn. Registration revealed that that the driver had a suspended license. Subject was placed under arrest and charged with: Operating after suspension, Illegal U-turn where posted, and Defective equipment.
Not Duly License: 7/15 at 11:45am – Washington St
A query of a motor vehicle revealed that the driver’s license had been revoked. Driver was charged with unlicensed operation and operating after registration revocation.
Larceny: Occurred 7/14 at 5:25pm – Perry St.
Woman reported some checks from her book were stolen. She did not see anyone take these items and there is no activity on the account. Account was cancelled.
Operating After Suspension: 7/15 at 4:55pm – Harvard St
Officers observed a vehicle making an illegal left turn from Harvard Street onto Beacon Street eastbound. A registry check revealed the subject’s a motor vehicle was suspended. Subject was placed under arrest and was charged with: operating after suspension and making a left turn where prohibited.
Larceny: Occurred 7/14 between 10:00pm-7/15 1:30pm– Pleasant St
Officer responded to a report of a stolen cell phone report. Subject stated that she left her phone on her desk at around 10:00pm and returned the next day at 1:30pm to find her phone missing. She ‘pinged’ the phone at approximately 1:45am and it was moving on Centre St in Boston. At approximately 1400 hrs she ‘pinged’ the phone again and the phone had stopped moving at Armstrong St. in Boston. Part-time custodian stated he did not notice the phone while he was working today.
Animal Bite: 7/15 at 1:00am – Naples Rd
Officer responded for a report of a bat in the house. Victims explained that they were woken up by the bat and that both of them were exposed to the bat while they were asleep. Neither knows for sure if they were bit or not. The bat was captured and brought to the state lab for testing.

Malicious Damage: 7/13 at 6:15am – Dudley Way & Lee St to Boylston St & Warren St
Officers responded to a report of garbage bins in the water. They observed 7 garbage bins that had been removed from their foundation and rolled into the reservoir. The Water Department was notified.
Protective Custody: 7/12 at 11:49pm – Chapel St
Officer responded to a report of a motorcycle accident. Upon arrival, officers observed that there was in fact no accident but that the party in possession of the moped was heavily intoxicated. They determined that the subject was in no condition to care for himself. Subject was placed into Protective Custody. The moped was towed and held until an owner could be determined.
Larceny: Occurred 7/9 at 5:30pm – Linden St
Victim reported a theft of her package. The service carrier claimed that the package was left outside on the front stairs of her building. Victim arrived home to find that there was no package on the stairs.
Fall on Town Property: 7/12 at 3:50pm – Center St
Officer witnessed a woman trip and fall on the sidewalk in front of a market. He immediately requested EMS and rendered assistance until they arrived. Woman suffered scrapes to her left knee and both wrists. She was treated by the ambulance. Upon further investigation, officer observed several large cracks and deep depressions in the sidewalk. D.P.W. was notified and cones were placed over the damage area.
Graffiti Law: 7/12 at 1:35pm – Village Way
Caller stated he observed several graffiti markings over the past two weeks on the Village Way property all with the same tag. Walk & Talk Officers were notified.
Breaking & Entering of MV: 7/12 at 12:45pm – Ivy St
Officers responded to a report of a breaking and entering into a motor vehicle in progress. Witness observed two young black males, wearing beach shorts, and no shirts fleeing from the scene, after they reached into the window of a dark-colored motor vehicle. Officers were able to stop 2 suspects across the street fitting that description. Subjects will be charged with the criminal offenses of Juvenile Delinquency to wit: Breaking and Entering into a Motor Vehicle.
Assault: 7/12 at 10:10am – Beacon St
Officers responded to a report of a past assault and battery. Caller stated that he and an acquaintance of his got into an argument. The acquaintance struck the caller with his walking cane, in the left elbow. Caller fell and landed on the front yard and was struck again on his back with the cane. Both parties refused medical attention and there were no visible injuries to either party. Both were issued a criminal complaint.

Police Reports 7/11-7/12
Assault: Occurred 7/12 at 12:30am – Colbourne Crescent
Victim stated that his friends saw a glass cup flying over the fence wall and break on the victim’s patio. There were no injuries during the incident and there was no damage to any property.
Graffiti Law: 7/12 at 2:05am – Boylston St.
Officer noticed a black spray paint marking on the side of the wall. Photos were taken and the investigation is still on going at this time.
Burglary: 7/11 at 11:23pm – Kent St.
Caller watched two people try to climb into his neighbor’s window. Officers noticed that the window screen on one of the first floor windows appeared to be cut. There also appeared to be a step stool directly below this window. Upon further investigation, officers discovered 2 mountain bikes inside the back seat of one of the suspect’s car, in plain sight. The vehicle was towed where it is secured pending the application for a search warrant.

Officers executed an unnumbered search warrant. The vehicle was photographed prior to the search and was not damaged during the search. Vehicle was towed.

Officer noticed a vehicle with no registration sticker properly displayed on the corner of the license plate. The query indicated the registration was revoked and the registered owner of the vehicle had a suspended license. Subject was placed under arrest.

Officer responded to a past attempted residential Breaking and Entering report. Victim stated that his wife observed damage to the front door of their home. The door appeared to have a single pry mark next to the dead bolt and damage to the lock mechanism. Victim further stated that other neighbors observed an intoxicated white male in his 40-50's, approximately 5'10" with a stocky build, lingering in the back alley behind Washington Street. No entry appeared to be gained. The second door into the home had no damage to it.

Victim observed her daughter’s bicycles missing from the rear of her home. The two bicycles were locked together to an iron fence behind the house; the suspect was able to remove the bicycles without breaking the lock. Victim stated there was a suspect seen in the back alley of her house today. This man has been seen in the area for the past few weeks, mainly in the daytime. He is described as an intoxicated white male in his 40-50's, approximately 5'10" with a stocky build, lingering in the back alley. Neighborhood has been advised to contact the police if they observed the suspect.

Two Juveniles Scooter-ed off to Jail
On 7/10 at 4:46pm, officer observed two male juveniles operating a motor scooter without helmets on the sidewalk of Sewall Ave. When stopped for questioning, both parties seemed to be nervous and hesitant to speak. Neither party knew where there were and stated that they would go get their helmets. After officers identified the subjects, their investigation led them to conclude that the scooter had been stolen. Subjects were placed under arrest. One will be charged with receiving stolen property, failure to wear a helmet, operating without a license, and operating recklessly. The other will be charged with receiving stolen property.
A little while later, the owner of a scooter contacted the Brookline Police Station to report that her scooter had been stolen. She stated that her scooter was parked on the sidewalk on Babcock Street. Her descriptions matched perfectly to the scooter officers recovered on scene. Scooter was returned to its rightful owner.
The town of Brookline has seen an increase in stolen scooter incidences in the past several weeks. Our investigation has revealed that some of these scooters are able to be jump started. Once again we advise all owners to lock their scooters to something for maximum security. Thefts have occurred at various times throughout the day so always keep a close eye on your personal property. And more importantly, be on the lookout for possible suspicious behavior in your neighborhood. Here are some safety tips taken from the web:
• Use case hardened steel locks with large chains and large padlocks
• Run the lock through both the front and back wheels
• Put cover over scooter - causing noise
• Lock the steering wheel
The idea is to deter the thief from wanting to spend the time to get to the scooter. The longer they take in trying to free the locks, the more time someone will have in stopping or getting a good look at the thief.

A query of the vehicle’s registration revealed that the registered owner’s license was revoked. Operator will be charged for Operating after Revocation (license) and Failure to Submit Vehicle for Inspection.

Officer responded to a complaint of a loud party. Resident stated she threw the party for some friends. Officer issued her the Town By-Law. Guests were asked to leave.

Police Reports 7/6-7/9
Operating after Revocation: 7/9 at 1:34am – Beacon St at Carlton St
Officer confirmed the status of a vehicle as revoked. The operator and registered owner was charged with the following: Operating MV After Registration Revocation, Operating MV without Insurance, Failure to Inspect MV. Vehicle was towed and confiscated.
Juvenile Trouble: 7/8 at 8:19pm- Naples Rd.
Officer responded to a report of a fire. The fire was extinguished by the caller. The caller stated that he smelt smoke coming from the rear of his apartment and then saw two kids surrounding a bond fire made out of card board boxes. Kids then fled on Naples Rd, towards Harvard St. The two kids were described as two white males approximately,6 to 8 years of age, looked a like (possibly brothers), short brown hair, wearing green shirt and shorts, and well dressed. Fire was extinguished.
Malicious Damage: 7/8 7am- Chilton St.
Victim stated that she left her house on 7/2 at approximately 6:30am. She returned home on 7/8 at 7:30am to multiple damages to her property: damaged windows, the water to their garden hose was turned on, and the wooden furniture in their garden was damaged and moved from their original positions. Officers processed the area and revealed no indications that the suspect/s entered the home.
Larceny: 7/8 at 6:22pm - Beacon St.
Store owner stated that he stopped a male party attempting to put two bottles of vodka down the front of his pants. After putting the two bottles back on the shelf, the male party ran towards the door and ran inbound on the outbound side of Beacon St. A black female ran out the door with him, which led the owner to believe that she was accompanying him while he was in the store.
Suspect’s descriptions include: light skinned black female, in her mid 20s, wearing blue jeans with rips on the thighs, a light blue blouse, black sunglasses, with shoulder length hair, wearing a black backpack and was carrying two white plastic bags. a while male in his late 20s-early 30s, with sideburns and a scruffy face, wearing a blue buttoned down short sleeve shirt, black under shirt, blue jeans, red sneakers, and a black backwards baseball hat with sunglasses on top. The two bottles of vodka were recovered by the owner and he did not believe anything else had been taken.
Larceny: 6/22 at 9:29am – Village St.
Officer responded to a report of a larceny of a package containing medical supplies. Caller contacted the shipping company and was informed that her package was delivered and left without any receiver signature. She reported the incident after several days of not retaining any camera footage from her building’s front lobby.
Threats by Phone: 7/8 at 10:46am – Smythe St.
Complainant reported that she received 3 threatening phone calls from an unknown person. Complainant appeared quite concerned about the phone calls. The caller’s phone number is blocked and is not listed on the complainant’s smart phone. She was advised to contact the phone company’s security division for a follow-up investigation. She was advised that her residence would be provided with special attention from the Brookline P.D.
Burglary: 7/8 at around 2:00am-10:00am – Carlton St.
Victims stated that someone broke into their house and stole their belongings. They discovered the window and screen in the dining room to be wide open, the back door to the apartment open and the back door to the house to be held open by a block. Officers processed the scene. Case is ongoing.
Failure to Stop: 7/8 at 1:27am - Carlton St and Beacon St
Officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed outbound on Beacon St. As the officer attempted to approach the vehicle, the operator accelerated to an even higher rate of speed. After several minutes of pursuit, officers were able to pull over the subject. Subject was clearly intoxicated and had operated the vehicle while under the influence of Intoxicating Liquor. He was put under arrest and charged with the following charges: Failure to Stop for a Police Officer, Operating Under the Influence of Liquor, Operating to Endanger, Speeding, Fail to Stop for a Red Light, Fail to Stop for a Stop Sign, Marked Lanes Violation, Failure to use Directional Signal when Turning. His Massachusetts Drivers License was seized, destroyed, and suspended.

Officers responded to a call of a group gathering. They observed a group of people talking and playing loud music. Resident asked guests to leave, the music was turned off, and there was no further incident. Resident was issued a town By-Law Ticket for violation of the Town’s Nuisance Control By-Law.
Larceny: 7/7 at 6:06pm – Harvard St.
Multiple units responded for a woman’s purse and keys that were just stolen. The suspect entered the store carrying recyclable red shopping bags at approximately 5:15pm. The suspect then shopped for approximately 30 minutes and clearly intends on buying his items as he is seen checking dates on items and comparing prices. On the surveillance video the suspect takes the wallet and exits the store at approximately 5:48-5:49pm on the time stamp. Suspect is described as a white male in his 60s with grey hair. He was seen wearing a Blue Red Sox hat, a light blue golf type polo shirt with a pocket on the left side of the chest, the shirt is tucked into his blue jeans, and he appears to be wearing black shoes.
Malicious Damage: 7/7 at 4:20pm – Boylston St.
Reporting party stated that when he opened the restaurant, he noticed the lower portion of the front entrance door glass to be damaged. Officer checked other businesses within the block for any other damages, but did not observe any other damage.
Larceny: 7/6 10:00pm- 7/7 7:40am
Complainant reported that two terra cotta flower pots containing begonias had been stolen from his front window flower box. The complainant suspects passing college students.
Operating after Suspension: 7/7 8:50am – Boylston St.

The operator stated that she was not the registered owner of the vehicle and was unable to provide a license. Officer’s confirmed the operator’s revoked status and had an active default warrant for her arrest. She was placed under arrest and charged for the following offenses: Operating After Suspension, Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Operating after Revocation, Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle. Vehicle was towed and the license plates were submitted into evidence locker.

Victim reported that she was a victim of an online scam. In mid June, victim exchanged messaged with another women who was hired to be her new nanny. Victim was reported to deposit checks into the nanny’s personal account. Upon forwarding the money, she sent a text message to the nanny with the reference number. Victim has no other information about this online scam. All search on the suspect had negative results. Copies of e-mails along with the check deposit slips and money gram transfer has been placed in the evidence locker.

Officer responded to an accident. Cyclist collided with a taxi vehicle causing her to fall from her bike. The front wheel of her bike was severely damaged and bent. Cyclist had some bruising and bleeding on her right elbow and she was also complaining of slight injury to her left knee. Driver was issued a citation for Failure to Yield to Oncoming Traffic.

Victim noticed his left rear tire on his vehicle was slashed. Victim’s neighbor also stated that her tire had been slashed 2 nights ago (no report filed). Victim claims that she has not had any incidents with neighbors and could not think of anyone that would have done this.
Fraud: 7/1 at 2:31am – Centre St.
Victim stated that her wallet was stolen a week ago and did not realize until she received a call from the bank notifying her of a suspicious charge. At this time, it appears that no other charges were made on the card. Card has been cancelled.

Several shrubs and newly planted sod had been damaged sometime overnight. It appeared that a MV had entered onto the property from the driveway that is located on Downing Road. This MV traveled on the lawn damaging newly planted sod and then left the property by driving over three shrubs. There was no other property damage.
Malicious Damage: 7/6 at 4:48am – 4:51am – Winchester St.
The rear window of a rental car was smashed and the roof was damaged. There was a large stone inside the vehicle. Victim was at home across the street when he heard a loud smash, and what he believed to be a vehicle speeding off. He stated that he believes that the suspect vehicle entered Winchester Street from Coolidge Street, and taking a right onto Winchester towards Kelton St. He did not see the suspect vehicle, but called police almost immediately. No further information is available at this time.
Officer confirmed the status of a vehicle as revoked. The operator and registered owner was charged with the following: Operating MV After Registration Revocation, Operating MV without Insurance, Failure to Inspect MV. Vehicle was towed and confiscated.
Juvenile Trouble: 7/8 at 8:19pm- Naples Rd.
Officer responded to a report of a fire. The fire was extinguished by the caller. The caller stated that he smelt smoke coming from the rear of his apartment and then saw two kids surrounding a bond fire made out of card board boxes. Kids then fled on Naples Rd, towards Harvard St. The two kids were described as two white males approximately,6 to 8 years of age, looked a like (possibly brothers), short brown hair, wearing green shirt and shorts, and well dressed. Fire was extinguished.

Victim stated that she left her house on 7/2 at approximately 6:30am. She returned home on 7/8 at 7:30am to multiple damages to her property: damaged windows, the water to their garden hose was turned on, and the wooden furniture in their garden was damaged and moved from their original positions. Officers processed the area and revealed no indications that the suspect/s entered the home.
Larceny: 7/8 at 6:22pm - Beacon St.
Store owner stated that he stopped a male party attempting to put two bottles of vodka down the front of his pants. After putting the two bottles back on the shelf, the male party ran towards the door and ran inbound on the outbound side of Beacon St. A black female ran out the door with him, which led the owner to believe that she was accompanying him while he was in the store.
Suspect’s descriptions include: light skinned black female, in her mid 20s, wearing blue jeans with rips on the thighs, a light blue blouse, black sunglasses, with shoulder length hair, wearing a black backpack and was carrying two white plastic bags. a while male in his late 20s-early 30s, with sideburns and a scruffy face, wearing a blue buttoned down short sleeve shirt, black under shirt, blue jeans, red sneakers, and a black backwards baseball hat with sunglasses on top. The two bottles of vodka were recovered by the owner and he did not believe anything else had been taken.

Officer responded to a report of a larceny of a package containing medical supplies. Caller contacted the shipping company and was informed that her package was delivered and left without any receiver signature. She reported the incident after several days of not retaining any camera footage from her building’s front lobby.
Threats by Phone: 7/8 at 10:46am – Smythe St.
Complainant reported that she received 3 threatening phone calls from an unknown person. Complainant appeared quite concerned about the phone calls. The caller’s phone number is blocked and is not listed on the complainant’s smart phone. She was advised to contact the phone company’s security division for a follow-up investigation. She was advised that her residence would be provided with special attention from the Brookline P.D.
Burglary: 7/8 at around 2:00am-10:00am – Carlton St.
Victims stated that someone broke into their house and stole their belongings. They discovered the window and screen in the dining room to be wide open, the back door to the apartment open and the back door to the house to be held open by a block. Officers processed the scene. Case is ongoing.

Malicious Damage: 7/5 at 10:45pm – Winthrop Rd.
Officers responded to a malicious damage report to a house that had been egged. The EGG-teriors of the home including the windows, deck, and front door were egged numerous times. The victim has not had any issues with anyone and no other reports have been taken for damage to homes in the area during the July fourth holiday. He was able to clean up the eggs after several hours of cleaning.
Not Duly Licensed: 7/5 at 5:52pm – West Roxbury Parkway
An officer stopped a vehicle for speeding while conducting traffic enforcement in the vicinity of 1281 West Roxbury Pkwy. The operator produced a registration but did not have a valid license. The subject was placed under arrest and charged with the following: Speeding and Not Duly Licensed.
Breaking and Entering: Reported 7/5 & Occurred 6/21 at night - Fuller St.
A resident came to the station to report a breaking and entering of their motor vehicle. She Stated that she left her vehicle unlocked overnight and returned the next morning to find that her wallet and international drivers license was taken. She canceled her card and no fraudulent charges have been made since. The vehicle was not processed due to length of time between the incident and the reporting of the crime.

Armed Robbery In Brookline; July 5th 2012
A female victim in her twenties reported today that as she was walking on Winchester Street around 12:30 AM she was robbed. She stated she was walking from Beacon Street towards Kelton Street when a vehicle approached from the opposite direction and stopped beside her. The driver was described as a middle aged light skinned black female who engaged the victim in a conversation asking for directions. While the victim was talking to the driver, a male subject walked past the victim and continued walking. When the victim resumed walking she spotted the same male subject standing near the intersection of Winchester and Fuller Streets. The male subject is described as being a middle aged black man, wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt. As the victim walked past the male subject he displayed a silver handgun and demanded her money. He then reached into her shoulder bag and took some cash and keys. He then walked away towards Beacon Street, telling the victim to walk in the opposite direction. A short time later as the victim continued walking the car returned. The same operator pulled alongside and asked if the victim was alright. The subject said she was and the vehicle left the area. The vehicle is described as a middle sized car with a baby seat in the back behind the driver. No further details are available at this time, it is unknown what the involvement of the car and operator are related to the crime. Officer responded to a report of a Hit & Run Accident. Victim stated that a grey vehicle changed lanes and scraped the left side of her car. When the victim pulled over to exchange information, the suspect did not stop. A registration of the suspect’s license plate identified his information. Information was exchanged and both parties were further advised. The damage to both vehicles was minimal and did not rise to the level that would require a RMV Report.
Fraud: 7/3 at 9:30am – Babcock St.
Victim claimed that she had 3 separate cash withdrawals. The officer is requesting a warrant on a suspect for fraudulent use of credit cards and a follow up by detectives.

Celebrate July 4th at Larz Anderson Park
Brookline Police will be out in full force tomorrow night, as Boston celebrates the fourth. In prior years, many residents have gone to the top of Summit Avenue in hopes of viewing the fireworks. This location may not actually be the best viewing spot. People will be allowed up there to enjoy their evening, but keep in mind that there are many trees and the view is blocked. Summit Ave. will have an alternate traffic pattern starting at 7:00PM. There will be no parking in the area. Residents are encouraged to walk up Summit Ave. A better viewing of the area to see the fireworks (weather permitted) is the Larz Anderson Park. This area will also be well staffed with Brookline Police and Civilian Park Interns. The top part of the park will be closed to all motor vehicle traffic at 7:00PM. People will be allowed to walk to the hill side for viewing of the fireworks. Reminder- No alcohol or fireworks are allowed.

Officer responded to a report of a stolen scooter. Victim claimed she left it unlocked and noticed it missing when she returned. Se did not notice anyone suspicious in the area and did not have any reason to believe that anyone she knew would have taken it.
Threats: 7/2 at 3:43pm – Egmont St.
Witness observed a man gesturing his hands, as a handgun, and aimed and shot it at the bedroom window right next to his. A check of the subject’s criminal history revealed multiple adult arraignments with numerous charges. Due to the subject’s violent criminal history and the fact that he has defaulted from court numerous times, the responding officer requested that a warrant be issued for his arrest.

After observing a crosswalk violation, an officer approached the operator of a vehicle and asked for a driver’s license and registration. A check revealed that the subject ‘s license had been revoked and had an active warrant. He was placed under arrest and transported to the station.

Victim noticed several different fraudulent transactions on her debit card. Transactions were made in multiple towns in both Maine and Connecticut.

Victim reported a fraud by check. The check was assigned by a suspect who has a default warrant for his arrest. All evidence has been submitted into an evidence locker. Case is still under investigation.
Accident: 7/2 at 8:55am – Sumner Rd.
A cyclist was struck by a vehicle attempting to park. The operator stated that he did not see the cyclist. No one was injured.
Graffiti Law: 7/2 at 7:45am – Thayer St.
Officer responded to investigate a graffiti complaint on a rented truck. The truck was parked in the driveway at Thayer St. when it was marked with graffiti. The Walk & Talk unit will conduct a follow-up investigation if warranted.
Officer responded to a report of a stolen scooter. Victim claimed she left it unlocked and noticed it missing when she returned. Se did not notice anyone suspicious in the area and did not have any reason to believe that anyone she knew would have taken it.
Threats: 7/2 at 3:43pm – Egmont St.
Witness observed a man gesturing his hands, as a handgun, and aimed and shot it at the bedroom window right next to his. A check of the subject’s criminal history revealed multiple adult arraignments with numerous charges. Due to the subject’s violent criminal history and the fact that he has defaulted from court numerous times, the responding officer requested that a warrant be issued for his arrest.

Police Reports 6/30-7/1
Possession of Heroin: 7/1 at 8:11pm – Babcock St.
Officers were dispatched to a scene for a report of a drug overdose. Upon routine checks, the staff on scene discovered that the patient had locked herself in the bathroom and was not responding. The officer observed heroin, a controlled substance, among other items inside a plastic bag found on the scene. The plastic bag containing these items was placed into an evidence bag as is, and will be submitted to the property clerk for further analysis. Subject was transported to the hospital.
Warrant: 7/1 at 5:30pm – Washington St.
A random inquiry of a vehicle, traveling north on Washington St. towards Boylston St., revealed that the owner had an active default warrant for his arrest. The operator and registered owner of the vehicle stated he did not know he had a warrant for his arrest. Upon confirmation, the subject was wanted on an outstanding default warrant issued by the court. Subject was placed under arrest and transported to the station.
Larceny: 7/1 at 4:15am – Beacon St. and Tappan St.
Witness stated seeing 3 subjects stealing a resident’s bike. The officer questioned several men who fit the descriptions described by the witness. Based on the subjects’ proximity to the crime scene and the statements and identification made by a witness, they were placed under arrest and handcuffed without incident for Larceny. The subjects were also issued a citation for possession of less than one ounce of marijuana.
Receive Stolen Property: 7/1 at 4:10pm – Washington St.
A witness noted a bicycle that was similar to the one that had been stolen from his son. After observing the bicycle, he approached the suspect to inquire where he got the bike. The suspect immediately left the area before the officer’s arrival. For reasons of abandoning the bike, evading the police response, and the identification made by the witness, the suspect was subsequently placed under arrest. The witness took custody of the bicycle in question.
Found Property:
Citizen turned over a .22 caliber rifle that was found while cleaning his attic. He requested that the station take custody of it because the rifle was given to him by his dad. The rifle was placed into an evidence locker.

Officer found a lost check with the information of a resident. A message was left to have the check picked up.
Annoying Phone Calls: 6/30 at 4:00am – Coolidge House rehab facility
On numerous occasions, a woman stated to receiving harassing calls and messages. The unknown callers made derogatory statements of a sexual and profane nature. Upon investigation, the officer discovered that the harassment was a cause of personal conflict. The officer advised that any future correspondence will likely result in court action.

Man reported that his credit card had been stolen and used fraudulently. He claimed that they were stolen from his secured locker while he went for a 45 minute swim at the pool. The bank revealed that his cards were used to purchase a laptop.

Bank Robbery Today
AT 11:23 AM this date a subject entered Eastern Bank at 301 Harvard Street, Brookline, Subject handed a note to a teller demanding money and indicating he had a gun. No gun was shown. Subject fled on foot he is described as a white male approximately 6 feet tall, mid twenties, wearing a long sleeve shirt with stripes. He had on a white baseball style hat with the New England Patriots log on the front. He has a tattoo on the right side of his neck. Larceny: Theft from mailbox on 6/27 - Euston St
Victim came into station reporting a case of larceny by check. On 6/19/2012, he received a copy of his bank statement of an unidentified charge to his account. The same incident occurred for the second time by the same subject on a later date. Victim claims that the credit card checks were stolen from his unlocked mailbox. Case is still under investigation.
Larceny: 6/27 at 4:16pm – Commonwealth Ave.
Officers respond to a reporting of a shoplifting. The store’s assistant manager claimed that the subject displayed suspicious behavior. Upon attempting to stop the subject, he left the store and road off on his bike. A review of the surveillance camera shows that the suspect had placed a headset underneath his shirt.
Graffiti Law: 6/27 – Stedman St
A resident of a building discovered graffiti on the side of his building.
Graffiti Law: 6/27 at 7:24pm – Park St
Officer responds to a graffiti complaint. The resident stated that he smelt the fresh paint after witnessing a male exiting the garage. He observed various graffiti on the inside and outside garage wall. The suspect is assumed to live in the area.
Town Property: 6/28 at 12:28am - Newton St
Officer responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and while distracted, collided onto Horace James Circle and struck a town tree. Subject was not injured. Upon a query of the vehicle’s information revealed that the subject had a suspended license. The driver was placed under arrest and charged for Mark Lanes Violation and Operating Motor Vehicle with a suspended License.

Officer responded to a radio call for a loud party. Upon arrival, the officer heard loud music and talking coming from an apartment. Resident claimed she just had some friends over and left the windows open. Approximately 5 people left the apartment without incident and the music was turned off. There was no further noise.

A Dwight St. resident reported a breaking and entering of an apartment. The victim stated that she was in the bathroom when she heard a noise come from the front door area of the apartment. When she went to investigate, she discovered that the front door had been compromised and forced open. The victim was not able to see any suspects. It did not appear that anything was taken from the residence.
Arrest: Occurred on 6/23 at 1:43 AM- Chestnut St.
Officers responded to Chestnut St. for the report of a breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. The victim stated that he parked his vehicle on Chestnut St. and went into a house to deliver a pizza. When he returned to his vehicle, he discovered a male subject sitting in his vehicle going through his wallet. The victim grabbed his wallet out of the subject’s hand, at which time the subject fled the scene on foot.
Officers were able to locate a subject fitting the description in the surrounding area. In plain view, the officer observed a bag with several prescription pill bottles that did not have labels. A search revealed that the subject possessed cocaine and pills that were not prescribed to him. The subject was placed under arrest for Possession of Class E without a Prescription and Possession of Class B. The subject has not been confirmed as the male who committed the breaking and entering of the motor vehicle.

Tips for Preventing Heat Related Illnesses:
•NEVER leave any person or pet alone in a closed, parked vehicle.
•Slow down, avoid strenuous activity.
•Avoid too much sun.
•Plan outdoor games and activities for early morning or evening.
•Avoid extreme temperature changes.
•Stay indoors as much as possible and use air conditioners to cool the air. When the temperature is in the high 90’s, fans will not prevent heat related illness. Taking a cool shower or bath is a better way to cool off.
•Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light-colored clothing that will cover as much skin as possible.
•Protect face and head by wearing a wide brimmed hat.
•Drink plenty of fluids, even if you do not feel thirsty, and avoid alcoholic beverages, drinks with caffeine and large amounts of sugar—these actually cause you to lose more body fluid.
•Use your stove less and try to cook your meals in the cooler part of the day.
•Although any one at any time can suffer from heat-related illness, some people are at greater risk than others. Check regularly on:
Infants and young children
People aged 65 or older
People who have a mental illness
Those who are physically ill, especially with heart disease or high blood pressure
•Visit adults at risk at least twice a day and closely watch them for signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Infants and young children, of course, need much more frequent watching.

Heat exhaustion:
Typically occurs when people exercise heavily or work in a hot, humid place where body fluids are lost through heavy sweating.
Recognizing Heat Exhaustion
Heavy sweating, weakness, cold, pale and clammy skin. Weak pulse. Fainting and vomiting possible. What to do- Lie down in a cool place. Loosen clothing. Apply cool wet cloths. Fan or move person to air-conditioned place. Take sips of water. Consult your health care provider.

Tips for Preventing Heat Related Illnesses:
•NEVER leave any person or pet alone in a closed, parked vehicle.
•Slow down, avoid strenuous activity.
•Avoid too much sun.
•Plan outdoor games and activities for early morning or evening.
•Avoid extreme temperature changes.
•Stay indoors as much as possible and use air conditioners to cool the air. When the temperature is in the high 90’s, fans will not prevent heat related illness. Taking a cool shower or bath is a better way to cool off.
•Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light-colored clothing that will cover as much skin as possible.
•Protect face and head by wearing a wide brimmed hat.
•Drink plenty of fluids, even if you do not feel thirsty, and avoid alcoholic beverages, drinks with caffeine and large amounts of sugar—these actually cause you to lose more body fluid.
•Use your stove less and try to cook your meals in the cooler part of the day.
•Although any one at any time can suffer from heat-related illness, some people are at greater risk than others. Check regularly on:
Infants and young children
People aged 65 or older
People who have a mental illness
Those who are physically ill, especially with heart disease or high blood pressure
•Visit adults at risk at least twice a day and closely watch them for signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Infants and young children, of course, need much more frequent watching.
•KEEP COOL—Spend as much time as you can in cooler surroundings.

Typically occurs when people exercise heavily or work in a hot, humid place where body fluids are lost through heavy sweating.

Heavy sweating, weakness, cold, pale and clammy skin. Weak pulse. Fainting and vomiting possible. What to do- Lie down in a cool place. Loosen clothing. Apply cool wet cloths. Fan or move person to air-conditioned place. Take sips of water. Consult your health care provider.

Burglary: Occurred on 6/18- St. Paul St.
A St. Paul St. resident reported a breaking and entering. The victim stated that he left his apartment at approximately 9:30 AM on 6/18. When he returned several hours later, he discovered that a change jar was missing from his desk. Another victim in the apartment discovered that a box containing cash was missing from his room. There did not appear to be any signs of forced entry.
Larceny: Occurred on 6/18- Shaw Rd.
A Shaw Rd. resident reported a larceny. The victim stated that two concrete lion statutes were taken from his property. The victim stated that he believes the statutes were taken on 6/18 sometime between 9:20 and 9:40 AM.

Police Reports 6/15-6/19
Shoplifting: Occurred on 6/15 at 5:10 PM- Harvard St.
Officers responded to TJ Maxx for the report of a shoplifter. A loss prevention employee stated that he observed a female subject remove items from a shelf and attempt to return them without first purchasing the items. The employee stated that he also observed the subject conceal items in her bag. A query of the subject’s information revealed that she had two warrants for her arrest. The subject was placed under arrest for Shoplifting and the warrants.
OUIL: Occurred on 6/16 at 1:58 AM- Beacon St.
A vehicle was traveling on Carlton St. going the wrong direction of a one way street. The vehicle turned onto Beacon St., where the officer conducted a traffic stop. Upon reaching the driver’s window, the officer could detect an odor of alcohol emanating from the vehicle. Based on the observations, the driver was placed under arrest for Operating under the Influence of Alcohol.
Larceny: Occurred between 6/15 and 6/16- Tappan St.
An individual reported the larceny of a bicycle. The victim stated that he locked his bicycle to a rack on Tappan St. at 11:00 PM on 6/15. When he returned the next day at 9:00 PM he discovered that his bike was missing.
Arrest: Occurred on 6/17 at 1:41 AM- Kent St./ Aspinwall St.
Officers observed an individual in the area of Muddy River, an area that is closed after dark. A query of the individual’s information revealed that he had a straight warrant out of Boston District Court. The individual was placed under arrest for the warrant.
MV Theft: Occurred on 6/17 between 5:00 and 10:53 PM- Greenough St.
A Greenough St. resident reported the theft of a motorized scooter. The victim stated she had parked her scooter in front of her apartment building around 5:00 PM on 6/17. When she returned a few hours later she discovered that the scooter was missing. The scooter was left unlocked.
B&E Motor Vehicle: Occurred on 6/18- Larz Anderson Park
An individual reported the breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. The victim stated that sometime between 9:18 and 10:18 AM, somebody broke into her vehicle and stole two bags.

An individual reported a breaking and entering at an Egmont St. address. The caller stated that she turned around from her computer and observed an unknown male subject in the apartment. The caller described the subject as a white male in his 20's with a shaggy haircut wearing a dark colored t-shirt and dark colored pajamas. The subject then left the apartment through a rear door. A search of the area for the suspect yielded negative results. Several items were reported stolen from a bedroom.

Three subjects arrested in over night armed robberies
Approximately 3:05 this morning in the area of 1491 Beacon St. an officer on patrol was approached by a person who claimed they had just been robbed. The victim described a knife being shown. A Suspects description and type of car was given out. A short distance away an officer stopped a vehicle matching the description. As the investigation continued another victim was located, subsequently the three occupants of the stopped vehicle were arrested. As a result all three were placed under arrest, charged with (2) counts of Armed Robbery. This investigation is ongoing, as of now all three are still held in Brookline PD, they should be brought to Brookline court later this morning. More information will be available as the reports get completed.
