An officer observed a vehicle failing to stay within the marked lanes of traffic. The officer initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Boylston Street and Cypress Street. A query revealed that the operator did not have a valid license and he was placed under arrest for Not Duly Licensed.

An individual reported the theft of a bicycle. The victim stated that unknown suspect(s) removed her bicycle from an open garage.

Bike thief arrested, stealing police bike
Thursday at approximately 619 AM the departments GPS tracking “bait” bike was stolen. An officer on patrol was driving in the area of Harvard street and Thorndike street. The bait bike had just recently been locked there. The officer saw a subject removing the bike and start to walk away. The officer stopped the subject as the tracking system activated the alert to the station. The subject was quickly and without incident placed under arrest. In his possession was a pair of wire cutters, and an older model bike he claimed was his. This is the first arrest made in association with the bait bike. We will continue the deployment of it in areas that have seen an increase in the thefts. This deployment coupled with patrols should help reduce those numbers, get the word out we have lots of bait. Today’s subject arrested is a 43 year old male from Boston scheduled to be arraigned in Brookline court.

An officer observed a vehicle fail to stop for a stop sign. The officer initiated a traffic stop on High St. A query revealed that the driver did not have a valid license and he was placed under arrest for Not Duly Licensed.

An individual reported the theft of his 2011 Honda Civic. The victim stated that unknown suspect(s) stole his vehicle from a rear alley in the area of Beacon St. Also reported missing with the vehicle was a wallet containing cash and credit cards, a check book, an Amazon Kindle, sunglasses, personal papers, and fishing equipment.

An officer observed a vehicle travel through a red light. The officer initiated a traffic stop on Beacon St. Upon reaching the driver’s window the officer could detect an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. Based on the observations the driver was placed under arrest for Operating under the Influence of Liquor.

Assault: 6/1 at 9:38 PM- Walnut St.
Officers responded to the area of Walnut St. for a noise complaint. Upon arrival, officers attempted to stop a male individual walking away from the building in which the noise was coming from. This individual became very aggressive and belligerent with officers. The subject yelled in the faces of several officers and bumped chests with one officer. The subject was placed under arrest for Assault and Battery on a Police Officer and Disorderly Person.
MV Theft: Between 5/31 and 6/1- Brookline Ave.
An individual reported the theft of a motor vehicle. The victim stated that he parked his vehicle on Brookline Ave. at approximately 6:45 PM on 5/31. When he returned the next day he discovered that his vehicle was missing. The vehicle was later recovered at Reservation Rd. and Hyde Park Ave. in Boston.

An individual was placed under arrest in the area of Crafts Rd. on a warrant out of Brookline District Court.
Officers responded to the area of Walnut St. for a noise complaint. Upon arrival, officers attempted to stop a male individual walking away from the building in which the noise was coming from. A search of the area for the suspect yielded negative results.

An individual reported a breaking and entering in the area of Yarmouth Rd. The victim stated that at approximately 12:41 AM on 5/28 she received a text message from a neighbor stating that he witnessed two males and a female in the victim’s driveway. The neighbor also told the victim that he could hear some type of saw being used on the property. When the victim returned to her property she discovered that the back door had been forced open and two toilets and two AC/Heating units were removed.

Phone Scam Alert
Brookline Police report a Phone scam. Recently a person claiming to be from a utility company contacted someone saying they owed a large sum of money. If they did not make payment their utility would be turned off. This is a scam. The number given is 617-652-2420, the subject used the name Ralf. If you have received such a call or something similar please contact the Police. You should also contact the utility company directly at their published numbers

Officer walks away from bad crash, subject arrested
On May 25, 2013 an officer was working the overnight shift . He was in the area of 1109 Boylston Street conducting traffic enforcement. The officer had a vehicle pulled over in front of him, off to the side of the road. He had just returned to his car and started to write a citation. He heard his rear dash mounted radar making a noise indicating a vehicle was approaching from behind. He looked up and was able to see a car coming at him. He braced himself for impact as the car came crashing into the rear of his car. Fortunately he was able to get out of his car and check on the other operator. The other operator sustained no injuries. The officer was shaken up and was taken to a local hospital for observation. He was released a short time later and is still out of work. The other operator was placed under arrest and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and other traffic offenses.
This incident shows the dangers officers face every day, simply by doing routine things. Every day officers make several motor vehicle stops. With major road ways like Boylston street these stops are even more dangerous with the higher speeds. This incident shows the importance of the traffic enforcement on such a road. Officers are routinely out doing enforcement several times a day. We are fortunate that the officer was not more seriously hurt and that no one else was hurt.

An individual reported the larceny of a bicycle from a detached garage. The victim stated that he last saw his bicycle at approximately 3:00 PM on 5/22.
Shoplifting: 5/26 at 10:01 PM- Beacon St.
A CVS employee reported a shoplifting. The employee stated that she observed two female subjects placed items into a plastic bag and leave the store without paying. Officers were able to stop two subjects who matched the description in the area. The employee positively identified the subjects and they were both placed under arrest for Shoplifting.

The officer was positioned in his cruiser during a motor vehicle stop of another car when a vehicle struck the cruiser from behind. Upon reaching the vehicle that struck the cruiser, the officer could detect an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. Two individuals reported the breaking and entering of motor vehicles in the area of Hawthorn Rd. Victim #1 stated that someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole and envelope containing cash. Victim #2 stated that someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole a GPS, eyeglasses, a phone charge and loose change.

Officers responded to Boylston St. and Hammond St. for the report of a motor vehicle that had struck a stationary police cruiser. Upon reaching the vehicle that struck the cruiser, the officer could detect an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. An individual reported the larceny of eight plants worth $695 from the front of his residence on Cedar Rd.

A CVS employee reported a shoplifting. The employee stated that two suspects were captured on video surveillance placing items into a bag and leaving the store without paying. Suspect #1 was described as a white male, 30-40 years of age, dark hair with receding hairline, wearing a black T-shirt with logo, baggy jeans, black sneakers and carrying a black jacket. Suspect #2 was described as white male, 30's, wearing a dark jacket, jeans, and black footwear. A search of the area for the suspects yielded negative results.

A gas station employee reported the larceny of his laptop. The victim stated that he left his laptop unattended on a store counter for a short time. When he returned he discovered that someone had taken the computer. A search of the driver produced a switch blade knife over 1.5 inches that is classified as a dangerous weapon. The driver was placed under arrest for Operating after Revocation and Carrying a Dangerous Weapon.

Several Brookline High School students reported larcenies of personal belongings from the auditorium area and the boy’s locker room. Two students reported their cell phones stolen from outside the auditorium. Three students reported personal belongings including an iPad, calculator and a backpack missing from three separate lockers in the boy’s locker room. Locks were cut off lockers in each case.

An officer observed a vehicle travel through a solid red light. The officer initiated a traffic stop on Boylston St. A query revealed that the driver did not have a valid license. The driver was placed under arrest for Not Duly Licensed.

Burglary Arrest: 5/14 at 3:45 PM- Brookline Pl.
Officers received the report of a suspect fleeing from the site of a commercial breaking and entering. The reporting party stated that she observed the suspect remove items from an office on Brookline Pl., at which point the suspect pushed the witness out of the way and fled toward Washington St. Officers were able to stop an individual in the area that matched the description. The witness positively identified the individual as the suspect. The suspect was arrested for B&E, Larceny from a Building, Assault and Battery, Receiving Stolen Property, and Carrying a Dangerous Weapon.

An individual reported the larceny of a laptop and an iPhone from a restaurant on Beacon St. The reporting party stated that a female subject came to the restaurant for a job interview. Prior to leaving the restaurant the female subject was seen on surveillance stealing the laptop and cell phone from a counter. A warrant was issued for the female subject and she was placed under arrest on 5/13 on Boylston St. in Boston.

An individual reported the larceny of a bicycle. The victim stated that he locked his bike to a rack on Beacon St. When he returned he discovered that the bike was missing.

Bike Theft: Between 5/8 and 5/10- Cypress St.
An individual reported the larceny of a bicycle. The victim stated that she locked her bike to the front porch of her residence. When she returned she discovered that the bike was missing.

Operating after Revocation: 5/11 at 5:19 PM- Hammond St. / Laurel Rd.
An officer observed a vehicle operating at a high rate of speed. The officer initiated a traffic stop on Laurel Rd. A query revealed that the driver had a revoked license. The driver was placed under arrest for Operating after Revocation.
Not Duly Licensed: 5/13 at 1:36 AM- Boylston St. / Lee St.
An officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The officer initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Boylston and Lee St. A query revealed that the driver did not have a valid driver’s license. The operator was placed under arrest for Not Duly Licensed.
