Arrest

  • Occurred at 10:45 AM Sears Rd.

On the morning of May 29, 2008 at approximately 10:45 am, there was a motor vehicle crash that involved 4 children under the age of 6. The crash occurred shortly after the operator of a mini-van fled the scene of a crime. The father of one of the children (7 months old) had just broken into a motor vehicle and stole a GPS System. Upon being discovered during the commission of the crime by the victim, he fled the scene in a vehicle operated by his sister at a high rate of speed. The children, and the aunt of two of the children, were transported to the Children’s Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the crash. At this time the injuries are not considered life threatening.

The incident began at 225 Lee St., when the arrestee was driving by a group of workman’s cars parked along the side of the road and observed a GPS system on the windshield of one of the vehicles. He told the operator of the motor vehicle he was driving in, to stop and back up along side the truck. He jumped out of his vehicle and grabbed the GPS gadget. He told the operator to flee, as the victim had seen what happened and was running out of the backyard to confront him. The mini-van drove off at a high rate of speed for a short distance before hitting a boulder along the side of the roadway and flipped the van over onto its roof. When the police arrived the arrestee was outside of the van and was helping the rest of the occupants out by climbing thru the window.

All toll; there were seven occupants of the mini-van. All except for a female passenger and the arrestee were treated @ the Children’s Hospital. The age of the children ranged from 7 months to 5 years of age. The subject under arrest was Jeffrey Renta of South Boston. He will be charged with Breaking and Entering a motor vehicle. Also, the operator of the vehicle will be charged with Breaking and Entering of a MV, operating a motor vehicle so as to endanger and speeding.
