10/14/2020- Officers responded to Trader Joes on Beacon St. for a reported purse theft.  The employees informed officers that a customer had been shopping in the store with their bag within the shopping cart.  While shopping within the store, someone had taken her purse out of the cart.

10/14/2020- Officers took a stolen bike report from a resident of Thatcher St.  The resident reported to officers that their bike was stored in the basement of their building. In some time since September, someone entered the building and stole the bike.

10/14/2020- Officers took a report for a package theft from a resident of Brook St.  The resident reported to officer’s that they had a package delivered via FedEx.  They went to retrieve the package and they found it open with the contents missing.  

10/15/2020- Officers took a bike theft report from a resident of Kenwood St.  The resident reported that they had three bikes that were stored in a shed.  When they went into the shed, the door was open and all three bikes were gone.

10/15-2020- Officers took a stolen bike report from a resident of Pleasant St.  The resident reported that sometime overnight their bike that was in the foyer of their building was taken.

10/15/2020- Officers took a stolen bike report from a resident of Walnut St.  The resident reported to officers that they stored their bike within their shed.  They noticed that the shed door was open, and they found that their bike was gone.

10/15/2020- Officers took a package theft report from a resident out of Smythe St.  The resident reported that they had an alert stating that their package was delivered; when they went to retrieve it the package was gone.

10/15/2020- Officers took a report for a break and enter from a vehicle on Winthrop Rd.  The resident reported to officers that their vehicle was parked in their driveway overnight.  When they came out in the morning their car had been rummaged though and multiple items were missing.

10/15/2020- Officers took a report for a stolen motor vehicle from a resident of Ivy St.  The resident reported that when they were leaving for work they noticed the car was no longer where they parked it.

10/17/2020- Officers responded to 227 Babcock Street, HRI, for a report that a patient had broken light fixtures and was using the broken covers to threaten other patients. This was the sixth time since October 14, 2020 police have responded to assist HRI staff with this particular patient.

Upon the officers’ arrival they were informed by staff that one staff member had already been injured by the patient, and that he had made threats to injure several others. Three officers approached the area and made visual contact with the patient, while additional officers with less lethal force options staged close by.

The patient was found to be leaning against a wall, holding the damaged light covering in both hands, with a physician and other staff members around him. One of our CIT-trained officers began negotiating with the patient to put the light covering down, to which the patient replied that he would not comply until a sergeant arrived. The patient then threatened several of the staff members by saying "I will slit your throat" and “you're next."

The sergeant arrived a short time later and while speaking with the CIT-trained officer and the sergeant on scene, the patient, without provocation, made his way into a different patient’s room and began assaulting him with the jagged edge of the broken light cover. Additional officers were able to extract the injured patient from his room and render medical care, at which point officers were able to confine the patient to a shared bathroom that joined the two bedrooms.

As part of continued negotiations, the patient informed our officers that he wanted to go to the hospital and did not want to stay at HRI. At approximately 08:30 AM

Fallon Ambulance Service arrived on scene. At several points our officer was able to talk the patient out of the bathroom, but each time he was wearing a t-shirt over his head with eye holes cut out and was holding (at different times) either a broken toilet seat, a broken cabinet or the broken light covering he had originally been holding.

Eventually, our CIT-trained officer was able to negotiate with the patient to put down the items he had been carrying around in exchange for a cup of water. Our officer was able to convince the patient to get on the stretcher without the use of force. The situation was deescalated by our officers to the point that the patient went voluntarily to the hospital, without restraints and without further incident. Fallon transported the patient to the hospital without further incident; however, he will be summonsed into court for the following:

Assault and Battery by Dangerous Weapon (ABDW) M.G.L. 265/15B.

10/18/2020- Officers took a report of package thefts from a resident of Beacon St.  The caller reported to have found multiple packages that were open and empty along their property.  The packages were addressed to residents of the building adjacent to the callers.  Attempts were made to notify the intended recipients of the packages.

 

10/18/2020- Officers took a stolen bike report from a resident of Beaconsfield Rd.  The resident reported to officers that they had a bike stored in the basement storage unit of their building. When they went to retrieve it the bike was gone.

Between 10/14 and 10/18 officers took 32 Unemployment Fraud reports from residents.
