MV Theft: Occurred on 4/19 at 12:10 Beacon St./ Fairbanks St.
An individual reported the theft of her motor vehicle. The victim stated that she parked her vehicle on the corner of Beacon St. and Fairbanks St. When she exited the vehicle, she dropped her keys underneath the car. The victim stated that she went into her office to get something that she could fish the keys out from under the car with. When she returned her vehicle was missing.

Brookline Police Make Arrests for Recent Crimes
After an extensive investigation into two armed street robberies which occurred on Cypress St on March 2nd, Brookline Detectives obtained arrest warrants for armed robbery for Brandon Bonnet, 20 years old of Mattapan; Jermaine Cohen, 20 years old and Igor Pimentel, 18 years old, both of Everett. On April 12th, detectives arrested Bonnett at his mother’s home in Mattapan. Cohen turned himself into the Brookline District Court on April 13th. Igor Pimentel is still being sought by police.
Brookline Detectives investigating an April 16th Parkway Road home invasion obtained an arrest warrant for Antwann Andrews, 25 years old of Roxbury and South Boston. Charges against Andrews include home invasion, two counts of kidnapping, armed robbery and larceny from the building. Based on the coordinated efforts of the Brookline and Cambridge Police, along with the Boston Regional Intelligence Center, Cambridge Police arrested Andrews on Mt Auburn St in Cambridge on April 18th. The investigation is continuing in an effort to identify two other suspects involved in this crime.

The officer conducted a traffic stop on Washington St. The operator was confirmed to be the registered owner of the vehicle. The driver was placed under arrest for Operating after Suspension and Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle.

Breaking and Entering: Occurred on 4/17 at 4:13 PM- Russett Rd.
A Russett Rd. resident reported a breaking and entering. The victim stated that a male subject was inside her home and had run out the back door. The victim stated that when she got out of the shower, she observed a man inside her home that turned around and ran down the stairs and out the back door. The subject was described as a white male, 5’10”, 180 lbs, possibly 17-18 years old, wearing a gray t-shirt, jeans, and a blue baseball hat. Nothing appeared to be missing from the home.

A query of a vehicle’s information revealed that the registered owner had an active arrest warrant. The query also revealed that the registration was revoked. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Newton St. The registered owner was placed under arrest for the warrant, and will also be charged with Revoked Insurance, Revoked Registration, and Unregistered Motor Vehicle.

Arrest: Occurred on 4/12 at 4:03 AM- Dudley St.
Officers responded to a Dudley St. address for a residential alarm. The residence is under construction and located on a side street with little vehicle traffic. Upon arrival, officers observed a vehicle parked in front of the driveway that led to the residence. The vehicle was stopped to question the occupants. A check of the house revealed that the kitchen window had been forced open and had fresh pry marks. Based on the circumstances, there was probable cause to believe that the occupants of the vehicle were involved in the breaking and entering of the home. The driver and the passenger were both placed under arrest for Breaking and Entering in the Nighttime and Attempt to Commit a Felony.
Larceny: Occurred on Freeman St.
A Freeman St. resident reported a past larceny. The victim stated that a number of expensive jewelry items were taken from her home in December 2011. The victim stated that at the time of the larceny, her condo was under construction and she was not living in her apartment.

A vehicle passed through a red light at the intersection of Washington St. and Boylston St. The officer conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of High St. and Acron Rd. A query of the driver’s information revealed that he had a straight warrant out for his arrest. The operator was placed under arrest for the warrant.

Leaf Blower Nuisance Control By-Law
As spring is upon us we want to remind you of the rules pertaining to the operation of leaf blowers. These rules are covered in our Nuisance Control By -Law. This Nuisance Control by Law can be found on the Town Of Brookline Website. Set out below are pertinent sections addressed in the By-Law
•Leaf blowers shall not be operated except between March 15 and May 15 and between September 15 and December 15 in each year.
•No leaf blower shall be operated before 8:00 AM or later than 8:00 PM Monday through Friday. No leaf blower shall be operated before 9:00A.M or after 8:00 P.M on the weekends and holidays.
•All leaf blowers are to be operated as recommended by the manufacturer. No modifications to the machine are allowed.
•In the event that a police officer or other Town employee, observes that a leaf blower has been modified or damaged, or does not have the proper manufacturer’s or Town label, the operator will be instructed to have the machine tested by the Town
• The provisions of this subsection do not apply to the use of leaf blowers by the Town and its contractors
•Inspections will be conducted by the Town at the DPW facility at 870 Hammond Street every first and third Tuesday night. These inspections will determine whether or not the machines are in compliance with the acceptable noise levels as set out in the by-law. No appointments necessary. The by-law prohibits the use of leaf blowers that exceed 67db. Those machines that pass inspection will be furnished with a label indicating that they may be operated within Brookline.
•Questions and information call the DPW at 617-646-2700.
We are recommending that you check your leaf blowers for the proper manufacturer’s label indicating that the noise level of the machine does not exceed 67 db. If it does, it will be illegal to use this machine in Brookline and you may be subject to a fine. If no label is attached, we strongly suggest you attend an inspection at your earliest convenience.

The driver was placed under arrest for Not Duly Licensed. A search of his person revealed a firearm. He will be charged with Carrying a Firearm without a license, Operating a Motor Vehicle without a license, and Operating a Motor Vehicle with a suspended registration.
A query of the passenger’s information revealed that he had a warrant out of Brighton District Court. The passenger was placed under arrest for his warrant. A search revealed that he had been sitting on top of a knife. In addition to the warrant, he will be charged with Carrying a Dangerous Weapon.

Take-back Prescription Drug Day Planned by DEA and BPD
Once again it’s time to clean out your medicine cabinet.
The Brookline Police Department is holding a drug take-back day Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM and it is sponsored by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and supported by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
The Brookline Health Department says that old medicines that languish in cabinets often end up abused or misused even if the owner of the drugs isn't aware of it.
The rate of prescription drug abuse is growing by the day and the DEA says that most abused drugs are taken from family or friends - including from someone's home medicine cabinet.
The drive will also give people a safe way to get rid of old drugs. Many people throw them away or flush them down the toilet, which can be a hazard to the environment by ending up in septic systems and sewers where lots of the pharmaceutical compounds survive treatment.
The program is free and anonymous.
Please turn in your unused or expired medication for safe disposal on Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Brookline Public Safety Headquarters

Traffic Advisory for Marathon Monday 4/16
Please plan your commute accordingly for the 116th running of the Boston Marathon that will take place on April 16th. Due to the marathon, there will be altered traffic patterns around Beacon Street from 8:30 AM until 5:00 PM on Monday. Tow zones will be in effect starting Sunday evening. Beacon St. itself will be shut down to all vehicle traffic and pedestrian crossings while the race is underway.
Police Reports 4/9-4/10
Robbery: Occurred on 4/9 at 9:54 PM- High St.
At approximately 10:00 PM, a woman was waiting for a taxi on High St. at High St. Place when she was approached by an unknown male who struck her in the face. The victim stated that the suspect repeatedly struck her in the face until she gave up her cell phone. The victim described the suspect as a black male, 30-40 yrs old, 5'10-6' tall, heavy set (200+ lbs), some facial hair, a dark colored beanie with possible hair sticking out, wearing a black hoodie and dark colored baggy clothing. The suspect ran through Robinson Park and onto Franklin St. Units canvassed the area with the help of a Boston K9 unit, but were unable to locate the suspect. Detectives are continuing with this investigation.

A vehicle backed into a building on Beacon St. Upon the officer’s arrival, the vehicle was gone and there was minor damage to the building. A passerby was able to take a picture of the vehicle in which the officer was able to identify the license plate number. The registered owner of the vehicle will be summonsed to Brookline District Court for Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident.

A Warren St. resident reported the larceny of a bicycle. The victim stated that her bicycle was stolen from her front porch sometime between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM on 4/3.

Officers responded to TJ Maxx for a shoplifting report. A loss prevention employee stated that he had observed two individuals removing the security devices from store merchandise. The two individuals were placed under arrest for shoplifting.

A vehicle that was traveling on Washington St. made an unsafe lane change without using a signal. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Washington St. A query revealed that a passenger had an active warrant out for his arrest. The passenger was placed under arrest for the warrant.
Burglary: Occurred on 4/7- Clinton Rd.
A Clinton Rd. resident reported a breaking and entering. The victim stated that when he awoke on 4/7, he noticed that a mud room door was slightly ajar. The victim received a call from another individual who told him that a bag containing several of the victim’s credit cards was left on his front lawn. Nothing else was reported missing from the house.
Malicious Damage: Occurred on 4/8- Centre St. Lot
An individual reported malicious damage to several vehicles in the Centre Street West lot. There were five automobiles that had similar damage. The paint on the vehicles had been scratched with a key or another sharp object. A similar incident at this location was reported on 3/24.

A vehicle that was traveling on Washington St. made an unsafe lane change without using a signal. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Washington St. A query revealed that a passenger had an active warrant out for his arrest. The passenger was placed under arrest for the warrant.
Burglary: Occurred on 4/7- Clinton Rd.
A Clinton Rd. resident reported a breaking and entering. The victim stated that when he awoke on 4/7, he noticed that a mud room door was slightly ajar. The victim received a call from another individual who told him that a bag containing several of the victim’s credit cards was left on his front lawn. Nothing else was reported missing from the house.
Malicious Damage: Occurred on 4/8- Centre St. Lot
An individual reported malicious damage to several vehicles in the Centre Street West lot. There were five automobiles that had similar damage. The paint on the vehicles had been scratched with a key or another sharp object. A similar incident at this location was reported on 3/24.
Arrest: Occurred on 4/9 at 6:23 AM- Boylston St.
A vehicle was traveling on Boylston St. at a high rate of speed. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Boylston St. A query of the driver’s information revealed that she had an active warrant out of Dorchester District Court. The operator was placed under arrest for the warrant.
Arrest: Occurred on 4/9 at 10:02 AM- Summit Ave.
A vehicle failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection of Short St. and Summit Ave. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Summit Ave. A query of the driver’s information revealed that he did not have a valid license for operation in Massachusetts. The operator was placed under arrest for Not Duly Licensed.
Arrest: Occurred on 4/9 at 11:09 AM- High St.
A vehicle failed to stop for the stop sign located at High St. and Chestnut St. The officer conducted a traffic stop on High St. A query of the driver’s information revealed that she had a warrant out of Dorchester District Court. The operator was placed under arrest for the warrant.

Keep sidewalks clear
Dear Brookline Business Community,
In recent months, the Brookline Police Department has received complaints
of sandwich boards interfering with the flow of pedestrian traffic on
sidewalks in commercial areas. One of these complaints came from a
visually impaired resident who fell trying to navigate around a sandwich
board. With the safety of all our residents and visitors in mind, we
would like to draw your attention to Town By-Law 7.5.11 (below) which
prohibits placing obstructions on any public street or sidewalk.
We are asking businesses to please remove sandwich boards from public
sidewalks immediately so that shopping areas will be safe for all to visit

An Upland Rd. resident reported that he observed two males run from a neighboring driveway to a parked vehicle and take off towards Walnut St. Several vehicles in the area had been broken into and had property stolen. Dispatch gave a description of a gray sedan with a stripe down the side. Officers observed a vehicle that matched this description traveling on Harvard St. at a high rate of speed and without its headlights on. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Harvard St.
Inside the vehicle in plain view were numerous car cell phone chargers, GPS units, and an assortment of tools. Also located in the vehicle was a laptop and several pieces of mail from a Clark Ct. address. Officers spoke to the residents of this address, who stated that two of their cars had been broken into. The victims stated that they were missing a laptop and a GPS unit.
The driver and the passenger were both placed under arrest and charged with Possession of Burglarious Tools, 2 counts of Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle, and 2 counts of Receiving Stolen Property over $250. At 7:30 AM on 4/5, an additional victim on Cushing Rd. reported a breaking and entering of his vehicle. The victim positively identified property seized from the arrestee’s vehicle. The two arrestees will additionally be charged with receiving stolen property under $250.

An officer stopped to assist in the exchanging of paper work after a motor vehicle accident at Cypress St. and Rt 9. Upon the officer’s arrival, the male operator of the second vehicle was argumentative and demanded his paperwork back from the female operator of the first vehicle. The male subject reached into the other vehicle and attempted to forcibly remove his paperwork out of the hand of the female subject, striking the female’s arm. The officer attempted to stop the male subject, at which time the subject pushed the officer twice. The subject was placed under arrest for assaulting a police officer.

At 11:21 AM, officers responded to the Brookline Bank for a report of suspicious activity. Bank employees stated that a white male subject wearing a hat, sunglasses, and a black hooded sweatshirt had just walked into the bank. The employees asked the subject to remove his sunglasses, at which time the subject exited the bank and met up with another white male wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.
At 1:30 PM, officers responded the Blue Hills Bank for a report of similar suspicious activity by a person who fit the description of the male at the Brookline Bank. Employees of this bank stated that the subject exited the bank and boarded an inbound train at Beacon and Harvard. An officer stopped a train at Beacon and St. Mary’s, where he was able to locate a subject fitting the description on board. An employee of the Blue Hills Bank positively identified this subject as the suspicious male in the bank. Based on surveillance images, it was determined that this subject was also the male who had been in the Brookline Bank. Officers located another male subject who had been in the company of the first male. Based on the totality of the circumstances, the two men were placed under arrest and charged with conspiracy to commit bank robbery.
Officers learned that the two men were presently staying in a Beacon St. hotel, and that the hotel room was believed to contain evidence of illegal activity. Officers kept the room under surveillance while awaiting the issuance of a search warrant. A female subject exited the room where she was stopped by the police. A search warrant was issued for the hotel room. The search produced items believed to be evidence from a recent bank robbery in Pittsfield. The three subjects are also believed to be connected to a recent bank robbery in Boston on 4/2. The two male subjects and the female subject were charged with Conspiracy to Commit Bank Robbery.

A vehicle was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Babcock St. and Harvard St. A query of the vehicle’s registration revealed that the registration as well as the registered owner’s license was suspended. The vehicle turned onto Harvard St., where the officer conducted a traffic stop. The driver was confirmed to be the registered owner, and he was placed under arrest for Operating after Suspension.

A vehicle was traveling at night without its headlights illuminated. This vehicle also failed to stop for a stop sign on Beacon St. at Westbourne Terrace. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Beacon St. A query of the driver’s information revealed that his license was suspended. The driver was placed under arrest for Operating after Suspension.
OUI: Occurred on 4/2 at 6:35 PM- Beacon St.
Officers witnessed a motor vehicle accident on Beacon St. Upon speaking to the operators of the involved vehicles, the officer could detect a strong odor of alcohol emanating from one of the drivers. A query of this subject’s information revealed that his registration and license were both revoked. Based on the observations, the subject was placed under arrest for Operating Under the Influence of Liquor. He was additionally charged with Operating Under the Influence of Drugs, Operating After Revoked License, Operating After Revoked Insurance, Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle and Open Container.

It does not appear that any personal property was taken from the apartment.

Officers responded to TJ Maxx for a report of shoplifting. A loss prevention employee stated that he observed a subject place items from the store in his jacket and attempt to leave without paying for them. The subject was placed under arrest for shoplifting.

A query of a vehicle’s registration revealed that the registration was revoked and that the registered owner had a suspended license. The query also revealed that the registered owner had a warrant out for her arrest. The officer conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Beacon St. and Centre St. The driver was positively identified as the registered owner, and she was placed under arrest. She was charged with the warrant out of Attleboro District Court, Operating after Suspension, Operating after Revocation, and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.

Officers responded to a bank on Commonwealth Ave. for a report of an individual who was suspected of opening fraudulent accounts. A bank employee stated that an individual was in the process of opening new checking accounts when he was alerted that someone using the same name had opened fraudulent accounts in the past. Bank employees had been instructed to inform the police if such an individual attempted to open a new account with said name. The individual consented to a search of his bag, which revealed checks from other fraudulent accounts that he had opened. The subject was placed under arrest for larceny under false pretence.

Police Reports 3/28-3/29
Robbery: Occurred on 3/28 at 8:07 PM- St. Paul St.
Officers responded to a St. Paul St. address for the report of an unarmed robbery. The victim stated that she was walking towards her St. Paul St. residence talking on the phone when she observed an unknown subject on her front porch. When she approached the front door, the subject walked away and down the steps. The victim stated that as she was entering her residence, the subject came up the steps and grabbed her from behind, stealing her cell phone.
The victim stated that the suspect fled down the driveway that is adjacent to the building towards the rear of the building. The victim described the suspect as a dark skinned male, 5'10" to 6' tall, wearing dark clothes. Officers spoke to several people in the area who witnessed the fleeing subject. The suspect was described by these witnesses as a medium to dark skinned male, 5'10" to 6' tall, mid 20's, full beard, stocky build, black knit “beanie” type hat, wearing dark clothing. Officers checked the area but could not locate the suspect. Boston K9 was able to hit on a scent in the driveway, but lost the scent in the area that the suspect reportedly jumped over. The investigation is ongoing.

Police Reports 3/23-3/26
Arrest: Occurred on 3/24 at 7:09 AM- Colchester St.
Officers were conducting a follow up investigation into a burglary that had occurred on 3/22 on Davis Ave. The victim reported that a GPS feature from his stolen IPAD was displaying a position at a Dorchester business. The officers were able to locate the IPAD as well as a digital camera from an employee. The employee stated that he had bought the items from a male subject, and officers were able to view surveillance video of the subject making this transaction. The IPAD was identified as property stolen in the 3/22 burglary. The camera was identified as property taken from a separate break on Davis Ave., also on 3/22.
On 3/24, a subject was arrested on Colchester St. for a breaking and entering. Officers identified the arrestee as the same individual who they witnessed selling the stolen goods in the surveillance video. Also in the arrestee’s possession was a Charlie Card that had been taken from an Alton Pl. residence on 3/17. Based on the information, the arrestee will additionally be charged with two counts of receiving stolen property. The investigation is ongoing.

The officer conducted a traffic stop on Boylston St. Upon reaching the driver’s window, the officer could dectect an odor of alcohol emanating from the vehicle. Based on the observations, the driver was placed under arrest for Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol.

An individual reported a breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. The victim stated that she parked her car on Kennard Rd. When she returned to the vehicle, she discovered that the rear passenger window was smashed and a GPS unit had been stolen.

Suspect arrested for Breaking and Entering
Shortly after seven AM on 3-24-2012 Brookline Dispatchers received a call for a live break and entering. Officers were dispatched to the location on Colchester Street. Dispatch gave out the description of the subject who had not gained entry to the house. He was now reported to be walking away towards Carlton Street. A responding officer spotted the subject trying to climb onto a balcony on another house on Carlton Street. The subject was stopped and subsequently placed under arrest. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Brookline district court on Monday facing the following charges.

Arrest: Occurred on 3/22 at 1:25 AM- Freeman St.
A vehicle was traveling on Babcock St. at a very high rate of speed. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, however the vehicle continued to accelerate onto Freeman St. The vehicle then turned onto Pleasant St. and Thatcher St., finally stopping in the Dexter Park parking lot. The occupants of the vehicle exited the car and fled into the Dexter Park apartment building.
One of the passengers tripped and fell, at which time the officer was able to stop him. Two other passengers who had been running also stopped at this time. The three passengers stated that they did not know the driver or where he fled to. One of the passengers provided an officer with a false name and social security number. A criminal application was filed for this subject for False Name to Police and Obstruction of Justice. Officers went to this passenger’s apartment, where the driver of the vehicle was hiding and voluntarily came downstairs to talk to the police. This subject was placed under arrest for failure to stop for the police and operating to endanger.

A loss prevention employee at TJ Maxx reported a shoplifting. The employee stated that he observed an individual placing merchandise into a personal bag that she had brought into the store. The subject was placed under arrest for Shoplifting.

Brookline Police Department Awarded Grant to Combat Underage Drinking
Brookline, MA - Today the Brookline police department announced that it will receive $10,000 from the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (EOPSS) as one of 31 grants to local police departments to combat underage drinking. EOPSS awarded $217,000 in U.S. Dept. of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention funds were awarded by on a competitive basis; grants varied between $5,000 and $15,000 based on the size of the community.
“There are many tools to combat underage drinking, and this grant provides much needed funding to target the problem,” said Lieutenant Philip Harrington. “Whether you are underage, plan to sell to a minor, or buy alcohol for a minor, we will be on the look out.”
The grants will fund a variety of law enforcement activities including: stings/compliance checks in bars, restaurants and retail locations; reverse stings; “shoulder tap” and “Cops in Shops” programs; and party patrols. Through a combination of these techniques, departments will be able to analyze and crack down on both minors who seek to circumvent the law and those people and businesses that allow them to. Activities under this grant in last year led to 217 youth citations and 189 arrests, and 87 adult citations and 64 arrests across the Commonwealth.
“Teens and parents need to be reminded that underage drinking is deadly serious,” said Lieutenant Philip Harrington. “Parents need to know that hosting a party where alcohol is served to minors is both illegal and extremely dangerous for the minors, for others in the community, and for the parents themselves, given the legal liabilities they face.”
According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2009 nationwide, 33% of 15- to 20-year-olds killed in crashes had a blood alcohol content of .01 or higher. Compounding the problem, drivers who have been drinking are also less likely to use restraints. Also in 2009 nationwide, 60% of young drivers of passenger vehicles involved in fatal crashes who had been drinking were unrestrained. Of the young drivers who had been drinking and were killed in crashes, 70% were unrestrained.
Any loss or injury on our roadways is one too many. The Brookline police department, in partnership with EOPSS, recognizes that traffic crashes are preventable, and is committed to using this grant to reduce the number of motor vehicle-related fatalities and injuries in Brookline.
In addition, the Brookline Police Department encourages residents to be aware of our current policy. Unsupervised house parties have been the scene of many tragic events. Word gets out that parents will be away, and parties quickly get out of hand. Alcohol and drug overdoses, date rape, vandalism and incidences of violence are often the result of unsupervised house parties. We are asking that all members of the Brookline community, parents, neighbors, and teens, to do their part to prevent these tragedies.

Also in 2009 nationwide, 60% of young drivers of passenger vehicles involved in fatal crashes who had been drinking were unrestrained. Of the young drivers who had been drinking and were killed in crashes, 70% were unrestrained.
Any loss or injury on our roadways is one too many. The Brookline police department, in partnership with EOPSS, recognizes that traffic crashes are preventable, and is committed to using this grant to reduce the number of motor vehicle-related fatalities and injuries in Brookline.
In addition, the Brookline Police Department encourages residents to be aware of our current policy. Unsupervised house parties have been the scene of many tragic events. Word gets out that parents will be away, and parties quickly get out of hand. Alcohol and drug overdoses, date rape, vandalism and incidences of violence are often the result of unsupervised house parties. We are asking that all members of the Brookline community, parents, neighbors, and teens, to do their part to prevent these tragedies.
If you are aware of plans for an unsupervised house party, please call the Brookline Police 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The telephone number is 617-730-2222- Police Station Front Desk. If you prefer, your call will be anonymous. The police will send out a special patrol to assess the safety of the situation. Appropriate steps will be taken to intervene with any risky behaviors, including alcohol and drug use. The intent of the police intervention is to provide assistance and counseling in order to prevent further tragedies.

Bicycle Enforcement Arrest
Arrest: Occurred on 3/17 at 5:45 PM- Harvard St.
A male traveling on his bicycle on Harvard St. went through a red light. An officer who was conducting bicycle enforcement stopped the individual on Harvard St. The subject began to yell at the officer in an assaultive manner, using profanities. A large crowd of people including children were present to witness the incident. The officer placed the subject under arrest for being a disorderly person. The subject was also issued a citation for going through a red light on a bicycle.

Officers responded to a Beacon St. residence for a report of a live breaking and entering. The caller stated that a white male wearing a green hooded sweatshirt was sitting on his bed. Upon officers’ arrival, they observed a shattered window and broken screen, as well as a white male sitting on the edge of the bed. The white male was handcuffed and transported to the hospital for a laceration on his hand.
The resident stated that he was awoken by a loud noise in his bedroom. He stated that the suspect had shattered a window and climbed into the bedroom, sitting at the foot of the bed without saying anything. Another resident on the floor below stated that someone had tried to enter his apartment through a bedroom window. This resident stated that he saw someone’s leg coming through his window, but he shouted at the suspect and he left without entering. The suspect was charged with 2 counts of Breaking and Entering at Night, Malicious/Wanton Damage of Property, and Trespassing.

Officers responded to a Pleasant St. address for a report of a suspicious person banging on the garage door. The officer observed a male subject kicking and punching the garage door, yelling for someone to let him in. The subject appeared to be intoxicated and the officer could smell an odor of alcohol emanating from his person. The subject was placed under arrest for Disorderly Conduct.
Burglary: Occurred on 3/17- Alton Pl.
An Alton Pl. resident reported a past breaking and entering and larceny. The victim stated that he had gone to bed at 2:00 AM on 3/17 and woke up at 7:00 AM. The victim stated that when he awoke there were several items missing from his bedroom. There were no signs of forced entry.

Officers observed a suspicious vehicle on Naples Rd. Officers ran the information of a Toyota Camry that was parked on Naples Rd. The query revealed that the plates belonged to a Toyota Yaris and that the Camry did not have a valid registration associated with the vehicle. The query also revealed that the owner of the registered plates had a suspended license and a straight warrant out of Cambridge District Court. While investigating the vehicle, the owner approached the officers. She was placed under arrest for the warrant and will be summonsed to court for Unregistered MV and attaching plates.

M/V Accident Cottage street
At 8:05 PM officers and EMS responded to a call of a motor vehicle crash. The one car crash was in front of 100 Cottage. The vehicle had five occupants and it crashed into a fence. EMS treated two on scene and transported the two ocupants to the Beth Isreal Hospital. Injuries described as none life threathening. Cause of accident still under investigation no charges filed at this time.

A Lexus SUV took an illegal left turn from Harvard St. onto Beacon St. The vehicle then took a right onto Centre St. and pulled into the Centre St. parking lot where the officer conducted a traffic stop. A query of the driver’s information revealed that his license was revoked. Upon talking to the operator, the officer could detect an odor of alcohol emanating from his person. Based on the observations, the driver was placed under arrest for Operating Under the Influence of Liquor. The driver was charged with OUIL, Operating after Revocation, and traffic offenses.

A loss prevention employee at T.J. Maxx reported a shoplifting. The employee stated that he observed an individual concealing items in a sweatshirt. The employee approached the subject and was able to recover the merchandise. The subject was placed under arrest for shoplifting.

The vehicle failed to stop for a red light on Beacon St. and began to swerve. The vehicle again swerved onto the curb on Beacon St, where the officer was able to conduct a traffic stop. Upon reaching the driver’s window, the officer could detect a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. Based on the observations, the driver was placed under arrest for Operating Under the Influence of Liquor.

Witnesses told police that they observed the vehicle swerve to the right on Beacon St., striking a parked car and a town sign. The operator will be summonsed to court for Operating Under the Influence of Liquor, Operating to Endanger, and weaving.

The officer observed the subject leave the business without paying for said items. The subject entered a vehicle and pulled out of the parking lot onto Aspinwall Ave, where the officer conducted a traffic stop. A Walgreens employee positively identified the items as being from that store. A query of the subject’s information revealed that she had warrants out of Roxbury, Brighton, Brookline, and West Roxbury. She was placed under arrest for Shoplifting and the warrants.

Shoplifting: Occurred on 3/10 at 6:20 PM- Harvard St.
An officer observed a subject in a Harvard St. Walgreens remove items from a shelf and place them in a bag inside her shopping cart. The officer observed the subject leave the business without paying for said items. The subject entered a vehicle and pulled out of the parking lot onto Aspinwall Ave, where the officer conducted a traffic stop. A Walgreens employee positively identified the items as being from that store. A query of the subject’s information revealed that she had warrants out of Roxbury, Brighton, Brookline, and West Roxbury. She was placed under arrest for Shoplifting and the warrants.

A vehicle took an illegal right turn at a red traffic signal from Beacon St. onto Washington St. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Washington St. A query of the driver’s information revealed that his Virginia driver’s license was suspended and that he did not have a valid Massachusetts license. The operator was placed under arrest and charged with Not Duly Licensed.
Larcenies: Occurred on 3/8 between 3:15 and 4:45 PM- Greenough St.
A security officer at Brookline High School reported several larcenies from the girl’s locker room. It was reported that four students had items stolen from backpacks that had been in the locker room. These larcenies all occurred on the same day and in the same time frame.

Burglary: Occurred on 3/8 between 2:00 and 6:30 AM- Fuller St.
A Fuller St. resident reported a breaking and entering with a larceny. The victim stated that when he awoke on Thursday morning, he noticed that his laptop computer was missing from the living room. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Harvard St. A query of the operator’s information revealed that his license was suspended and that he had an active warrant out of Dorchester District Court. The driver was placed under arrest for the warrant and Operating After Suspension.
B&E Arrest: Occurred on 3/7 at 11:43 PM- Boylston St.
Officers responded to a Boylston St. business for a possible breaking and entering. Officers observed a broken pane of glass where the suspect was believed to have gained entry and blood smears on the frame of the window. An office door had been forced open and the cash register had been emptied. A passerby stated that he encountered an individual next to this business who had asked for something to cover a cut on his hand. The subject was described as a white male with a beard, early 20's, wearing sweat pants, and blood on his hand.
Dispatch then received another call that someone had smashed a window at another Boylston St. business in close proximity. Employees of the second business stated that an individual had smashed a window and asked for medical attention for a cut on his hand. The description of this individual matched the description of the suspect from the first breaking and entering.
Officers canvassed the area and were able to observe a male in the area that fit the description. The passerby from the first B&E and the employee from the second B&E identified this individual as the person whom they encountered. Based on the facts of the incidents, the subject was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of breaking and entering in the nighttime, two counts of malicious damage, and one count of larceny from a building.

OUIL: Occurred on 3/5 at 3:56 PM- Lee St.
A vehicle was driving in the middle of the road, straddling the center white line on Clyde St. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Lee St. Officers noticed that the left rear tire of the vehicle was flat. Upon talking to the driver, officers could detect an odor of alcohol emanating from her person. Based on the observations, the driver was placed under arrest for Operating Under the Influence of Liquor. The operator also had a default warrant out of Brookline District Court. The operator will be charged with OUIL, open container, and weaving.

An individual reported that she believed her boyfriend was the victim of a robbery on Cypress St. A search of the area did not produce this particular victim or any suspects, therefore officers responded to the victim’s residence. The victim stated that he was walking on Cypress St. when he was approached from behind by two suspects, one of which held a knife. The victim stated that the subjects pulled his sweatshirt over his head and demanded that he give up his cell phone. The victim stated that after the suspects fled, he observed them robbing another individual on Cypress St. The suspects were both described as dark skinned black males, mid 20’s, approximately 6’0”, wearing dark baggy pants, and dark sweatshirts. The two victims were unaffiliated and had been walking separately on Cypress St. when the incidents occurred.

The two victims were unaffiliated and had been walking separately on Cypress St. when the incidents occurred.

A vehicle was traveling around the Hammond St. area several times with no apparent destination, turning around and reversing direction several times. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Hammond St. As the officer approached the vehicle, the operator accelerated and drove away from the officer. The officer then began to pursue the vehicle, which traveled at a slow speed. The vehicle eventually stopped at the intersection of Boylston St and Reservoir Rd.
When the operator exited the vehicle, officers were able to detect a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his person. Based upon the observations, the driver was placed under arrest for Operating Under the Influence of Liquor and Failure to Stop for a Police Officer. The operator was additionally charged with Possession of a Class B Substance.

The vehicle corrected itself and pulled onto Beacon St., straddling the center line. The vehicle made an abrupt left turn onto Winthrop Rd. where the officer conducted a traffic stop. Upon speaking to the driver, the officer could detect a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the vehicle. Based on the observations, the driver was placed under arrest for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. The driver will be charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended license, Marked Lanes Violation, Failure to Signal while Turning and Driving on Sidewalk.

Arrest: Occurred on 3/1 at 2:20 AM- Beacon St.
At 1:02 AM, a passerby reported that the front window of a Beacon St. business had been smashed. A search of the vicinity did not produce any potential suspects. It appeared unlikely that the suspect had gained access to the business, although several items were reported missing. Officers remained fixed in front of the store until a key holder could arrive to take control of the store.
While waiting for a key holder to respond, an officer observed a male reach in through the broken window. The officer observed the individual remove a necklace from a display and place it in his pocket. The subject was placed under arrest for Larceny from a Building. He was additionally charged with two counts of Possession of Class E Drug.

Shoplifting: Occurred on 2/25 at 4:19- Harvard St.
An employee of a Harvard St. Stop & Shop reported a shoplifting incident. The employee stated that he observed a subject exit the store without paying for items that were in his carriage. After being confronted by employees, the subject fled from the store towards Auburn St. The employees were able to give a description of the subject, and a short time later an individual matching the description was stopped on Washington St. The employees were able to identify this individual as the shoplifter. The subject was placed under arrest for shoplifting.

B& E Arrest Made
On Friday Feb 24 at 5:24 PM officers were dispatched to the area of 108 Winthrop Road. A person was reporting a live breaking and entering of an apartment. Prior to the arrival of the officers, the subject fled the rear of the building. Shortly after that, less than a block away, officers stopped a subject fitting the description. A witness showed up and identified the subject as the one they saw breaking into an apartment at 108 Winthrop.
The subject was arrested. As the follow up investigation got under way, evidence was found to charge the subject with the following, two counts of breaking and entering and one count of attempted breaking and entering. All three apartments are in the same vicinity.
The subject was released on bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday Feb 27 in the Brookline District court.

Arrest: Occurred on 2/23 at 5:26 PM- Harvard St.
An employee at TJ Maxx reported a shoplifter. The employee stated that he observed the suspect conceal several clothing items in a backpack. The suspect was placed under arrest for shoplifting. A search of the suspect’s backpack revealed hypodermic needles and a substance consistent with heroin. The suspect is being charged with Shoplifting and Possession of a Class A Substance.

A Hammond St. resident reported a burglary. The victim stated that two bikes had been locked inside a garage on 2/22 at 10:30 PM. When the victim left for work at 7:30 AM on 2/23, the bikes were missing.

A Kent St. resident reported an attempted burglary. The resident stated that she went into her bedroom and noticed a window was open with the screen missing. There appeared to be pry marks on the outside of the window. It does not appear that the suspect gained entry to the house, and no items were reported missing.

A vehicle was traveling on Harvard Street with its registration sticker improperly affixed to the rear number plate. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Harvard St. A query of the operator revealed that he had three default warrants out of South Boston District Court. The driver was placed under arrest for the outstanding warrants.

A brown Honda Accord took an illegal left turn from Harvard St. onto Beacon St. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Beacon St. Upon reaching the operator’s window, the officer noticed the driver’s side door was covered in vomit, and there was an odor of alcohol emanating from the vehicle. Based on the observations, the driver was placed under arrest for Operating Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor. The operator’s license was subsequently suspended.
Assault: Occurred on 2/18 at 2:52 AM- Babcock St.
An officer responded to Babcock St. for a disturbance call. The officer was met by two individuals, one of whom was bleeding from the mouth. The two individuals stated that they were walking on Babcock St. when they encountered a third party, who began to accost them. The victim and the witness stated that as they were crossing Babcock St., the third party struck the victim in the face with his fist, resulting in lacerations and a loose tooth. Officers observed blood spatter in the area described by the victim. The suspect was identified and was found sitting in front of his Babcock St. residence. The suspect was placed under arrest for Assault and Battery and Disorderly Conduct.

Officers observed a taxi cab and a Jeep stopped at the intersection of Pleasant Street and Beacon St. that had just been involved in an accident. The driver of the taxi stated that he was struck from behind by the Jeep at the intersection of Beacon and Pleasant St. Upon talking to the driver of the Jeep, officers could detect a strong odor of alcohol emanating from his person. Based on the observations, the driver of the Jeep was placed under arrest for Operating Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor.

Winthrop Rd. residents reported a Breaking and Entering and Larceny. The victims stated that when they returned home at 10:30 PM, they noticed that several items had been taken from various bedrooms in the apartment. It appears that the suspect gained entry through a basement level window.
OUIL: Occurred on 2/17 at 1:05 AM- Boylston St.
A vehicle traveling on Cypress St. came to a stop at a red light in the middle of an intersection. When the light turned green, the vehicle turned onto Boylston St., traveling at a high rate of speed and straddling the center line. The officer conducted a traffic stop on Boylston St. Upon speaking to the driver, the officer could detect the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. Based on the observations, the driver was placed under arrest for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

On January 16th, 2012 a fire badly damaged apartment buildings at 1469 and 1471 Beacon Street
WHAT: Basketball game between BHS students and members of the police department followed by a game between the BHS faculty and members of the Brookline Fire Department
WHEN: Friday February 17th, 2012 1st Game 6:00 PM; 2nd Game 7:00 PM
WHERE: Brookline High's Schluntz Gymnasium
Tickets are $5.00 for students and $10.00 for adults. Children under 10 admitted free.
All proceeds will go to the fire victims fund that has been set up at the Brookline Credit Union. Recent Medical Call
On Tuesday February 14, 2012 at 2:38 PM Brookline Public Safety Dispatch received a 911 call from a resident on Dwight Street. The caller was a ten year old child who said his baby sister was not breathing. The calm brother was able to get the phone to his mother. Shortly before the call the one year old child had fallen in the kitchen and struck her head causing her to go unconscious. The Dispatcher began giving emergency medical procedures to the mother. The mother was instructed to place the child on the floor and within seconds the child can be heard in the background crying. At this time it is unclear what the medical condition of the child was. When EMS arrived the child was breathing and conscious. The child was transported to a local hospital, treated and released.

The officer conducted a traffic stop on Boylston St. Upon speaking to the driver, the officer could detect a strong odor of alcohol emanating from his person. Based on the observations, the driver was placed under arrest for Operating Under the Influence of Liquor. A query of the driver also revealed that his license was suspended. Arrest: Occurred on 2/15 at 12:07 AM- Boylston St.
A red Volkswagen was traveling at a high rate of speed on Boylston St. The officer conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Boylston St and Hammond St. A query of the driver revealed that his license was expired and nonrenewable. The driver was placed under arrest and was issued a citation for Not Duly Licensed and Speeding.
Burglary: Occurred on 2/14 between 4:30 and 9:15 PM- Greenough St.
An employee at Brookline High School reported a possible attempted burglary. The employee noticed damage to the doorknob of a room believed to hold computers. It appeared that the suspect was unable to gain access to this particular room. Officers then checked other rooms that might contain computers. In one room, officers noticed a damaged window pane and wood molding on the door. Several computers were missing from this room.

The officer conducted a traffic stop on Boylston St. Upon speaking to the driver, the officer could detect a strong odor of alcohol emanating from his person. Based on the observations, the driver was placed under arrest for Operating Under the Influence of Liquor. A query of the driver also revealed that his license was suspended. The driver was issued a citation for Operating Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor, Operating After Suspension of license, and Speeding.

M/V Crash Witness needed
This morning at 7:20AM on Route 9 west bound near the Chestnut Hill theater, there was a motor vehicle crash. Officers found a single car crashed into a tree. The operator was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. Anyone who may have seen this accident take place is asked to call the Brookline Police. 617-730-2222

Arrest: Occurred on 2/13 at 5:20 PM- Beacon St.
A green mini van made an illegal left turn at the intersection of Webster Street and Harvard Street. The operator pulled into the rear parking lot of Trader Joe's, disobeying a detail officer’s commands to stop. A query of the driver revealed his right to operate a vehicle was suspended. The driver was placed under arrest for Operating after Suspension, Failure to Obey a Police Officer, and Illegal Left Turn.
Traffic Stop: Occurred on 2/12 at 10:08 PM- Amory St./ Freeman St.
Officers observed a gray Volvo at the corner of Amory St. and Freeman St. A query of the registration revealed that it had been revoked. The officers conducted a traffic stop. The registration status was confirmed, and the operator will be summonsed to court for operating after revoked insurance and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. The vehicle was towed and the registration plates were confiscated.
Graffiti: Occurred on 2/13 at 4:43 PM- Chilton Rd.
A Chilton Rd. resident reported a Graffiti Law complaint. The victim’s front door had been tagged with a sharpie marker. The graffiti appeared to be from the same individual who tagged several homes over the weekend.

Police Reports 2/10-2/13
OUIL: Occurred on 2/12 at 3:00 AM- Beacon St./ Winthrop Rd.
An officer responded to the intersection of Beacon St. and Winthrop Rd. for a report of a disabled motor vehicle. A gray Chrysler was pulled to the side of the road, running and with the hazard lights on. There was significant damage to the front of the vehicle. The officer was able to locate several broken parts that had fallen off the vehicle, which led to a fire hydrant that had been struck and tipped over. Upon reaching the driver, the officer could detect a strong odor of alcohol emanating from her person and the vehicle. The driver was placed under arrest and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle while under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor and Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident.
OUIL: Occurred on 2/11 at 2:48 AM- Hawes St./ Colchester St.
An officer noticed a white pick-up truck parked on the curb of Colchester St. with extensive front end damage and deployed air bags. The officer observed major damage to the fence, numerous tire tracks in the yard, and vehicle parts in the yard at a Colchester St. residence. There was also damage to a town sign. Based on a license found in the empty vehicle, a description was sent out to officers of the possible driver. A short time later, officers stopped a party matching the description at the intersection of Aspinwall Ave. and Kent St.
It was determined that this subject had been operating the vehicle. The subject was placed under arrest and transported to the hospital. He was charged with Operating under the influence liquor, Leaving the scene of an accident, and Operating to endanger.
Shoplifting: Occurred on 2/10 at 9:51- Beacon St.
Employees of Trader Joe’s reported a shoplifter in their store. An employee stated that he observed a man placing items from the shopping cart into his coat pockets. The employee stated that the subject left the store through the rear exit without paying for the items in his pockets. The subject was placed under arrest for Shoplifting.
Larceny: Occurred between 2/3 and 2/9- Washington St.
A Washington St. resident reported several packages stolen from her residence. The victim stated that a payroll check and a UPS package were stolen from the front vestibule of the building.

A green Honda Civic was traveling on Pleasant St. with no front registration plate. Officers conducted a traffic stop on Pleasant St. A query of the operator revealed that his license was suspended. The driver was placed under arrest for Operating after Suspension.
Graffiti: Occurred on 2/11
Several residents reported graffiti marked on their front doors. Two Babcock St. residents, two Beals St. residents, and two Stedman St. residents reported similar graffiti markings made by a sharpie marker on their front doors.
B&E Motor Vehicle: Occurred on 2/9 between 9:00 PM and 11:00 AM- Kent Sq.
A Kent Sq. resident reported a Breaking and Entering and Larceny of a Motor Vehicle. The victim stated that she had parked her car in her driveway at 9:00 PM, and the next morning she noticed the front driver’s side window was smashed. A GPS unit was stolen from the vehicle.
